Classy Gamer: Is the PS3 Slim driving software sales too?

This week has undoubtly been a great week for Sony. They dominated the news firmly without leaving much breathing space, if any, to the competition, and managed, at least temporarily, to raise the popularity of their console quite a lot.

Of course we don't have much data yet, besides what's provided by the retailers, and even the data we have doesn't give us any hint on what the long-term results will be.
What we can do is to observe the present, and wonder what the future will hold.
One of the few early sources of data we have are the Amazon popularity charts, that list the popularity of each item compared to other items of the same category (updated hourly).

More consoles=More software..

obvious answer is obvious..
the ps3 slim even gonna raise bluray sales..

Above Awesome5383d ago

Yeah I came in here to pretty much say this.

More PS3s = More potential buyers for games.

Seriously what kind of article is this.

Abriael5383d ago

It's not a no brainer as you may think.

It's true that more consoles may potentially mean more games sold, but the fact that multiplatform titles (that aren't part of franchises particularly bound to the playstation brand) are starting to sell more on the PS3 than on the 360 is not exactly negligible, I'd say.
We'll have to say how the trend goes in the next months, But I wouldn't say that observing the initial movements of the market is that pointless.

Between the exclusives, and the high quality content on PSN, and free online play, including things on Playstation Home, and the firmware updates...

It's safe to say you get a PS3 because you're the kind of person who likes new content, These kind of people are more inclined to buy more games.

So as Ps3 becomes cheaper, and there becomes more of them in living rooms...

you get the point.

Godmars2905383d ago

Movies too.

How Sony allowed tMS to outdo them in movies is unimaginable - though mostly Netfix's fault - but that doesn't change the fact that the PS3 is an all around better media player.

Pixel_Addict5383d ago (Edited 5383d ago )

What the hell would a person do with a PS3 with no games or movies? Atleast Xbox 360 owners eventually get a paper weight :P

Godmars, 360 owners like to glaze over the Bluray because HD might still win the format wars.

I've owned a launch 60gb PS3 from day 1, back in 2006. Had PS2 at it's launch back in 2000. However, I didn't leave Nintendo for PS1 until it was almost 5 years old. Except for buying an N64, I was sticking with Super Nintendo/Genesis till the end of that era. I still own an original Xbox and enjoy it's games that I missed out on while I was in love with my PS2. I have nothing against Xbox, I just prefer Playstation 1st. I had a launch 360, but sold it off to a friend later that same day. Figured I'd holdout & wait for Sony's new toy. I will buy another 360, one day soon. As a gamer, you can't deny either console, if your budget allows you to have them all. But I say this seriously, I'd rather see Sony in control of the game industry again as it was the last two gaming generations. Not because I prefer them, but because it's almost like politics. With Sony in office, the gaming industry saw many profits. Gaming as a whole was made better. Microsoft, on the other hand seems to be stagnating the growth process for the entire industry, in my opinion. I like their machine & a lot of what they bring to the table, but I don't think they do what they do for the good of gaming. I think they hold things back, primarily because they got into gaming just to be the top dog. Not because delivering games was their passion, but because they wanted to rule & monopolize another territory. I do know it's a business for all game companies. But, when I look at Sony & Nintendo, the vibe I get is completely different from that of MS. Unlike the many Sony haters, that were just upset at Sony for being #1, I'm not mad at MicroSoft, I just think that while they've had their time as the more popular choice amongst real gamers, they haven't spent their time wisely.

"Not because delivering games was their passion, but because they wanted to rule & monopolize another territory."

They're PR highlights represent this more than anything. Playstation 3 this, Playstation 3 that. 50% of their reports is about the PS3 and the other 50% is actually about themselves. They don't really care about the gamers as a whole, they care about beating Sony.

Of course I'm not saying they 100% don't care about gamers, but a lot of that "I hate Sony" spirit is going into some of it's developers. Like Turn 10 who constantly has to bash Gran Turismo. Or Peter Molyneux who constantly promise a bunch of bull. The list goes on.

New PS3 owners will be able to experience the amazing AAA exclusives while new 360 owners will be able to experience flops and a reason to purchase a fire extinguisher with it.

Fire Extinguisher bundle Only on XBOX 360!!! ;-D

dustgavin5383d ago (Edited 5383d ago )

Ps3 is ahead of the wii and the 360 is somewhere around 52 on that list.

Expect many 360 fans on here to start jumping ship.

randomwiz5383d ago

It hasn't even been released yet.

But anyway, when people buy the fats, they're going to get software.

kwyjibo5383d ago

Software is where the money is made.

Why do you think Activision and EA have been so chuffed about the price drop?

I'm sure R* knows the Nintendo Switch install base and probably dont really care to port over more R* games to the Nintendo Switch tho i gotta say playing GTA4 & RDR1 on the go on the Nintendo Switch would be dope

Knightofelemia678d ago

I would buy Lollipop Chainsaw, Alice Madness Returns, Enslaved, Splatter House, Brutal Legends, Dante's Inferno, and Dead Space for sure if they were ported to the Switch.

Mobis-New-Nest678d ago

Deus Ex Human Revolution would be a great title to The Holy Grail of All Consoles aka The Nintendo Switch*. Also Haze Remastered, Grand Theft Auto 4 and 5 Remastered, Silent Hill HD Collection, Max Payne 3 Remastered, Call of Duty World At War Remastered, The Orange Box Remastered, Halo Master Chief Collection, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 Remastered, Metal Gear Solid 4 Remastered, Afro Samurai Remastered, Demons Souls Remastered, Xmen Destiny Remastered, Jack and Daxter Collection, Def Jam Icon Remake, Folklore Remastered, Spiderman Edge of Time Remastered, Persona 5 remastered, the list goes on. (*Best Selling Console of All Time)

MontyeKristo678d ago (Edited 678d ago )

Can we just get a Bully 2? 😒

iplay1up2678d ago

Seriously? Isn't it time Nintendo make a Switch successor? I mean they have the sales and money.

I wonder how many already have them.

gamefreaks365900d ago

Yeah, that's a good point. Still, if anyone missed out on them, this is a great deal.

Jeriphro900d ago

Wow. That is so cheap, but I know I personally already have all the games in the list. haha. I guess I should have waited.
