I really can't stand portable/handheld gaming that much (i don't know, just not my thing), but I am SOOO borrowing my friend's psp just to play this game.

SpoonyRedMage5378d ago

...You shall be converted. That is all.

JL5378d ago

lol Not sure about converted. No doubt I'll absolutely love this game though. The first was brilliant and amazing. And even my aversion to handheld gaming won't stop me from loving this.

Really though it's not so much a hate for handheld gaming, as it just doesn't compare to console gaming on my big screen tv. I only game at home anyways, so when I'm here I have my tv and ps3 to game on. Thus, I don't really need handheld to play and it just isn't "satisfying"(for lack of better word) gaming with a tiny handheld device with a tiny screen when compared to a big screen tv with the comfort of a regular controller in my hand. I've done handheld gaming before. Even played on my friend's psp. Just there's only so much time for gaming that I have, and the ps3 and big tv make a much much better argument for taking up most if not all of that time. I even game on my ipod touch a lil bit. Just for handheld gaming, for me, the appeal is restricted to certain genres or types of games. Like more popcap kind of games or simple games to that effect.

Handhelds are where it's at for JRPG love. If it wasn't for my DSi/ PSP, I'd be one cranky mofo with the scarce trickle of JRPGs on the home consoles. MS has had the biggest line-up thus far, but not the best (a lot of average, but playable titles). It'll be another year or two before the genre really hits it stride on the home consoles.

fusionboxer5378d ago

Is how the game will use the hand helds unique features. I'm sure sega went to the psp for a reason. They must have something up their sleeves.

GameGambits5377d ago

He's right about being converted. If it's such a stickler you don't like to look at the smaller screen then buy the 20 dollar cord that hooks up to your HDTV so you can play your PSP in a bigger format on your TV. I haven't bought the cord as I'm okay with it, but I do admit I wouldn't mind one. :)

My mindset for the longest time was:Portable games are quick cheap thrills, but never amass to the quality in anyway of a full console game. Those days are gone...Portable games now have the same level of quality that full on console games do.

The best games this generation are probably around portables if you are a RPG fan.

The world ends with you
FF7 Crisis Core
God of War Chains of Olympus
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite(perfect time to get into this series)
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor

If you are a PS3 owner then you should def. get a PSP. It's the same level of quality anywhere you want it to be. For me the PSP is on everyday lately with this dry season for games till next months MAG and Uncharted 2 betas roll out. Plus after that is Uncharted 2 in October.

JL5377d ago

That's interesting to know. I never actually knew there was a way I could connect the PSP to my TV. Interesting indeed. I might have to look into that. I am in that same mindframe that I guess what started me against handheld gaming was that "quick cheap thrills that couldn't compare to consoles" thing. I know that's changed now, however, with my console now I have plenty enough to play as it is so I haven't really had the necessity or desire to venture upon that when I'm already getting my fill with my ps3. And while I do like JPRG's, I'm also very much like switching up, so I've had enough to keep me busy as it is. In the long run, it's not that I have anything against portable gaming, just that I have my hands full as it is keeping up with my ps3.

Valkyria Chronicles seems perfect for handheld gaming, still I wish this had been on PS3 and had kept the same art direction of the first.

kurochi5378d ago

playing through Valkyria Chronicles and I must say, I really am not that into it. It starts fairly slow and I'm having a problem getting used to their system of CPs and how to use it to move and attack. I'll give it a go a couple more times yet, but I guess it's hard to switch gears after playing inFamous and Dead Space. Any suggestions from here?

Aggesan5378d ago

The CP system is really not that hard to get into, and it's really one of my favourite games this far this generation. And I don't mind Valkyria Chronicles 2 being on the PSP at all. I bought one just a couple of weeks ago and need some good games for it. Btw, great times for the PSP!

Still aggravated it's not on PS3. :/

The Best Games You Can't Officially Buy Anymore

From Xfire: "It's been estimated that roughly half of the video games ever released on the market can no longer be downloaded or purchased. Whether this is exactly correct is not the point. Rather, we think that either way, the video game industry, as a whole, has done a terrible job at preserving video games and making older titles available to play for future generations."

Terry_B1091d ago

You can play all of these games still lol. The headline is just misleading. Funny is that there is not one game in the list that you really can't play anymore due to it being online only games.

CorndogBurglar1091d ago (Edited 1091d ago )

Its not about games you can't play. Its about games you can't officially buy anywhere.

Terry_B1091d ago

The author changed it actually

Army_of_Darkness1090d ago

Who needs to buy these games anyway? Most of them are average at best and won't really be missed.

littletad1091d ago (Edited 1091d ago )

It says buy, not play though. You can't purchase Deadpool or the Simpsons game anymore. Unless you have a 360 for the simpsons or a physical copy of deadpool, or purchased it before it was delisted.

shuvam091091d ago

Look at his comment. It's from 9 hours ago. Article goes back 4 hours. Title might have been changed after realising the mistake

isarai1091d ago

One you actually legit cannot play AT ALL is Noby Noby Boy. I miss turning my brain off and messing around in that game, was so psyched to re-download it when i rebought a ps3 slim, but you cant, even if it's in your downl library, along with a few other obscure PS3 games i had.

NecrumOddBoy1091d ago

The original memes to the moon game. Loved NNB on PS3.

FreeckyCake1091d ago

I would replace Transformers Devastation with War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron tho.

Knightofelemia1091d ago (Edited 1091d ago )

Transformers Devastation was good but not as good as Fall and War of Cybertron they should be on the list. SH 2 I can play any time I want since it came free in a $10 Xbox I bought used. The Simpsons Arcade I have on my PS3 surprised the Xmen Arcade game is not on this list or the Turtles arcade game either.

CorndogBurglar1091d ago

I had the X-Men arcade game on my 360. I don't know if Xbox Live is still a thing or not, and of it is, I don't know of they still sell X-Men. But it was deinitely on Xbox Live at some point.

Knightofelemia1091d ago (Edited 1091d ago )

If you had X-Men before you can redownload it from your transaction history on the 360 Microsoft did not castrate the 360 from online. That is how I was able to redownload the old TMNT arcade game to my 360 you can't play it on XB1 or Series X but you can still access it for sure on the 360.

Twinfinite Writes: With Fire Emblem Three Houses the series takes its first leap into a school life game, but there are other great JRPGs out there with a school setting.

Currently playing through Trails in the Sky SC, after spending 60 hours finishing the first. I want to jump into Trails of Cold Steel, but was told by several people that it's better to play the previous games first.

Positivelypositive 1748d ago

Trails of cold steel is great to jump right into. You won't feel like you missed anything. I am sure there is more to get out of the 3rd and 4th TOTS games but I don't see any reason to wait to play Steel.

DarkZane1748d ago

There are some mentions of events in Trails in the Sky in the first 2 trails of cold steel, but not much. You should definitely play Trails in the Sky completely before Trails of Cold Steel 3 and 4 (which are yet to be released), because there are characters from that series in those games.

You might also want to play Trails of Zero and Azure, which are the 2 unlocalized games. There are translation patches for them out there that are 100% done.

bluefox7551748d ago (Edited 1748d ago )

Interesting, thanks for the tip. I heard TITS 2 was the best one in that series, so I think I'll still finish it. Depending on the ending though, I may jump into TOCS after, mainly because the gameplay looks way better, and obviously the visuals as well. The TITS combat is a little shallow IMO.

Outlawzz1748d ago

Cold steel 1 was my first trails game. There were certain parts where I could tell they were referencing previous games but other than that it was a complete and separate story. It was great and I never felt like I missed out on anything just small mentions of other events.

Teflon021748d ago

doesn't matter which you play first as the games directly involving the story of Sky aren't even all released here to even worry about order. You'll miss alot of references no matter which way you look at it. Just play which ever ones you want in any order as long as 1s before 2. They're self contained stories by name for the most part.

AnnaDea1748d ago

Finished Cold Steel II today.

I have some time now to finish the Crossbell games before Cold Steel III arrives in late October. I can't sing enough praise for the Legend of Heroes series. I have only beaten Sky FC a little earlier and gonna play SC soon too. I feel sorry for the fans of jrpgs that misses this hidden gem of a series.

I have been a great fan of Nihon Falcom since the elary 90's. One of the strongest japanese developers out there. But and support their games Kreygasm.

How Does Fire Emblem: Three Houses Stack Up Against Other Games With School Settings?

So how does Fire Emblem: Three Houses compare? Well, it doesn't offer the agency of Bully, but it does feel more expansive than Persona, even if the choices you have to make aren't quite as interesting. Its strength is in how well-realized and expansion it all feels, its calendar peppered with a multitude of fun events like feasts and dance festivals. Where Valkyria Chronicles 2's academy feels like a series of rote menus, Three Houses' setting feels fully integrated into the gameplay and story.
