From Nintendo Now:
The monster collecting genre has always been dominated by one franchise, Pokemon. In an interesting development, Nintendo has decided to compete against themselves with the release of Fossil Fighters. You really shouldn't compare the two directly to each other, it's just a bit unfair. Though it can't be helped since Fossil Fighters does show some influences from the Pokemon world. It also shows some things that other games have already done. While it may not be a totally original experience, I found the game to be quite fun and addictive.
Catch and tame some critters!

Oh man, the original games came out when I was working at Target's electronics counter. Trying to explain how it worked in comparison to Pokemon to inquisitive mothers was a headache.
DS seems to keep getting these awesome games. May have to invest in one soon, Kingdom Hearts and Golden Sun alone is all I really need but theres much more.
