GTA's Dan Houser on Disk Storage

He sums it up:

The danger is currently the storage medium (DVD), and one we thing we're all praying for in the next round of hardware is that they don't just go, 'It's DVD again'.

That was fast i was wondering when somebody would post a counter to what was posted this morning. lol Again, again. http://www.dailytech.com/Qu...

classy rebuttal, bubbles for u my son.

Shadow Flare6219d ago

Microsoft tried pulling a sony and released the 360 first. However when they released it, HD-DVD wasn't a finalised format, so they were stuck with DVD. Yet the 360 loyals actually defend this. Its microsoft's stupidity that is affecting games now. The lack of the core 360 harddrive and using the dvd format is hindering GTA IV from being the superb game it should be. Nice one microsoft.

HD consoles need HD discs, it's simple.

"He sums it up:

If he made such a comment now, it would seem like an intentionally partisan comment. But from 2004, that quote actually seems like a genuine technical issue."

PS3 gamers are forced to use blu-ray for games. GREAT!
360 gamers are forced to use dvd's for games....uh...great...

Fisher3396219d ago

That is, in all honesty, the truth

Bathyj6218d ago

If he made such a comment now, it would seem like an intentionally partisan comment. But from 2004, that quote actually seems like a genuine technical issue.

Well I'm saying it now and I'm NOT saying it from a partisan point of view. I'm saying it purely as a genuine technical issue.

When they sitting down and started designing this game, the first thing they would have said is "Well it has to fit on a DVD."

Theres no getting around that. GTA4 will not make good use of BR, Not unless they have some copious amount of extra content, which they wont. The games are going to be practically the same. They cant make 20 GB wont of Data. It just wont work. Put your fanboyism aside and see that plain obvious fact. I'm not saying this because I like PS3 better. I'm saying this because a 10 Gallon bucket holds more water than a 1 gallon bottle, and thats undesputeable.

I'm sorry if you think I'm insulting your Xbox, because I'm not but the PS3 version has essentially been handicapped before the game was even started, and we are going to see this more and more over the next 2 or 3 years. No one is even really pushing BR yet so if its a problem now, how bad will it be later, seriously.

The Guy was complaining they were filling DVD in 2004. I'm done. Sensible responses only please.

Lyberator6218d ago (Edited 6218d ago )

BUY WHAT YOU WANT. If the storage was really a problem they still could make the game better on blu-ray. Also lack of a hdd shouldnt be an issue for them as THE 360 GETS HOURS OF EXCLUSIVE GAMEPLAY CONTENT.

power of Green 6219d ago (Edited 6218d ago )

Rather have a smaller game with more advanced gameplay with more advanced graphics to chalange me on my HDTV than an average large game with 5th generation capabilites and average looking visuals, Games the size of Mass Effect, Crack Down & Oblivion etc are good enough on a platform that has too many good games in the first place. DVD/Blu-ray will be useless in a few years anyways. LOL.

PS3 has space and math skills, 360 has graphical might and AI advantages. lets move on hahahahahahaha...

Ya ya ya we know the sandbox genre will hurt the 360 if you read the original comments both consoles present problems probably due to the PS3 not being able to show too much on screen at any given time with its limitless space. lol

Games like GeoW!, Slinter Cell 5, Mass Effect can not be done because of PS3's piss poor memory use. lollloollollol

spacetoilet you're not exactlly on my winners list, you seem ass hurt.

MS's compressions plus new technoligies should be enough this generaton. http://www.dailytech.com/Qu...

23478ueyur_9382236219d ago

Not really. Both are fairly equal in either respect, people just like to blow it out of proportion.

It all depends on how well the developer makes their game for whatever system.

OneBubbleBastard6219d ago (Edited 6219d ago )

Are we supposed to be amazed by those screens??? caaaause they look like crap..

More proof by the minute that M$ raped you all and KEEP raping you..

"PS3 not being able to show too much on screen at any given time with its limitless space. lol"

Shadow Flare6219d ago (Edited 6219d ago )

I got some more

TheMART6219d ago

Deep I thought you would be the unbiased one.

But yet, still Sony fanboys in disguise.

We'll see kids we'll see.

Bet the 360 version will still looks better because it's the main platform for development.

For GTA4
For Assassins Creed
For many, many other games

So Sony droids, either way, BluRay or not, you'll get the tuned down versions. Which is good because your GPU is just an old standard PC card Sony needed to buy lately in their design process when they found out the Cell couldn't take the GPU tasks with it

techie6219d ago (Edited 6219d ago )

Well I'm sad that someone would go to the effort of clicking disagree on every one of my posts.

I thought I'd difuse the situation with a game of screenshot chess. Shouldn't we be commending devs for their efforts, and be in awe of realtime nextgen graphics?

Or should we talk and argue...you decide. I like seeing the most impressive pictures people can find.

"Bet the 360 version will still looks better because it's the main platform for development.

For GTA4" - you have no evidence for that.

Dareaver16218d ago

Sonyfaboy in disguise is correct. Why not show some impressive 360 shots, if your so neutral. Have you heard about Spiderman 3, a sony picture, so which platform do you think it was designed on first. Well anyway, they are saying that the 360 version is better. Ps3 is impressive and 360 is impressive, but they both have their flaws. Pointing out one, while not acknowledging another is proof enough of fanboyism.

I mean let's see some pics of; Bioshock (since you deep, did a submit about the water in it (oh and if you think i'm backing you in this, you went on in a comment when compared to lair that the water in bioshock was in a confined area and not as impressive as said other game, and blah blah blah.... so don't think for one moment that this proves neutrality)), too human, blue dragon (some really impressive next gen cell shading), and etc. Yall posted some great pics of ps3 games, which means both consoles are great. So what's all the fuss about? They both can't seem to outpace each other and we the gamers are benefitting. I say it is a great time to be a gamer.

Lack of hard disk drive is more important right now.. open world games need fast loading for their worlds so they nee some space in HDD...

Blu ray is amazing for single player games like MGS4,FF13,HS,Uncharted.. Ps3 and Playstation titles are allwayes known as incredible single player.. so they need more than DVD..

but many XboX titles like Halo wont need more than 9 GB.. they will enjoy multiplayer..

Whoooop6219d ago

This as good as any place to post more of my STATE OF THE CRAP screens..

yeahhh

WARNING!! - This screens were taken by me while being drunk.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies19d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken18d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing6919d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker19d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing6919d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt18d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken18d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
