Microsoft tried pulling a sony and released the 360 first. However when they released it, HD-DVD wasn't a finalised format, so they were stuck with DVD. Yet the 360 loyals actually defend this. Its microsoft's stupidity that is affecting games now. The lack of the core 360 harddrive and using the dvd format is hindering GTA IV from being the superb game it should be. Nice one microsoft.

When they sitting down and started designing this game, the first thing they would have said is "Well it has to fit on a DVD."

Theres no getting around that. GTA4 will not make good use of BR, Not unless they have some copious amount of extra content, which they wont. The games are going to be practically the same. They cant make 20 GB wont of Data. It just wont work. Put your fanboyism aside and see that plain obvious fact. I'm not saying this because I like PS3 better. I'm saying this because a 10 Gallon bucket holds more water than a 1 gallon bottle, and thats undesputeable.

I'm sorry if you think I'm insulting your Xbox, because I'm not but the PS3 version has essentially been handicapped before the game was even started, and we are going to see this more and more over the next 2 or 3 years. No one is even really pushing BR yet so if its a problem now, how bad will it be later, seriously.

Rather have a smaller game with more advanced gameplay with more advanced graphics to chalange me on my HDTV than an average large game with 5th generation capabilites and average looking visuals, Games the size of Mass Effect, Crack Down & Oblivion etc are good enough on a platform that has too many good games in the first place. DVD/Blu-ray will be useless in a few years anyways. LOL.

Sonyfaboy in disguise is correct. Why not show some impressive 360 shots, if your so neutral. Have you heard about Spiderman 3, a sony picture, so which platform do you think it was designed on first. Well anyway, they are saying that the 360 version is better. Ps3 is impressive and 360 is impressive, but they both have their flaws. Pointing out one, while not acknowledging another is proof enough of fanboyism.

I mean let's see some pics of; Bioshock (since you deep, did a submit about the water in it (oh and if you think i'm backing you in this, you went on in a comment when compared to lair that the water in bioshock was in a confined area and not as impressive as said other game, and blah blah blah.... so don't think for one moment that this proves neutrality)), too human, blue dragon (some really impressive next gen cell shading), and etc. Yall posted some great pics of ps3 games, which means both consoles are great. Lack of hard disk drive is more important right now.. open world games need fast loading for their worlds so they nee some space in HDD...

Blu ray is amazing for single player games like MGS4,FF13,HS,Uncharted.. Ps3 and Playstation titles are allwayes known as incredible single player.. so they need more than DVD..

but many XboX titles like Halo wont need more than 9 GB.. they will enjoy multiplayer..

if there really is a disc problem, why don't they just use two discs. they did that before on final fantasy, myst and loads of other titles. no one moaned then. if they want the game badly, people wont mind. its not that much of a problem, its not like you would have to change the disc every few minutes.

There has been one generation of consoles that use dvds, and we all of a sudden have to use some thing else? nah i dont think so. hell san andreas only took up at most 3 gigs... so i have no idea what hes talking about...all most filling up dvds.

the new god of war 2 have a double layer dvd that occupies 7GB...so?
some years ago we didn't even need 1GB but the more you put the better graphics and resolutions you have....by the way resistance occupies 14GB

I'm not a developer, but I know a little about digital media to be honest.

FMV Movies (Outgame movies) take up alot of room on a game disk - these were practically non existant on GTA games as most of them used ingame engine coding. Another thing that takes up massive room on disks is SOUND. Now when a PS3 game is encoded in say Dolby Digital 7:1 or 9:1 Channels your looking at an easy 10gigs worth of sound. It's crazy, but it's audio that takes up most room on disks.

What I don't understand is that why these bluray games don't have massive "Making of" and special features sections on them on the development of the title. There's lots of room left over.

Back to the issue at hand. I've said at least 3 times now, this will be an issue with the 360 and it's limited capabilities. Power of Green and Ultra Arse-face "theMART" have made some ludicrous claims on the PS3 and how Micro$ofts counterpart is better at this and that.

Hands down, both of these clowns know that the PS3 can totally out perform the xbox 360 in terms of graphical power and processing. Admit it guys - it's a much better machine. And STFU before you say "Where's the games?" because unlike the 360, the PS3 has only been out 6-7 months and it's got a FAR better listing of games than the Xbox360 had back then.

GTA4, will be GTA4 on both consoles - the same. I doubt Rockstar will create some special PS3 version because it will take exceptional effort and lead to a delay.

even the devs of oblivion said it was a problem, they used up almost 4gigs on voices alone, then compressed a sh*t load of data, so as long as compression is used as a key tool, it wont be a problem, but give it a while, when games get to the point of 13 or 14 gigs and you can only compress the data down to 10 or 11 gigs, then developers are gonna have all this high def data and not be able to use it, so is it a problem now, not realy, will it be a problem when developers start thinking bigger for there games, yeah

You guys do realize that in the PC world they were using CDs to distribute games until recently... Just in the last year have they started universally adopting DVD and PC games are capable of running at higher resolutions and framerates than 1080p and generally look way better than console games but you don't ever hear devs complaining about DVD on that platform. Only in the console pissing match do you ever hear about this. This is ridiculous.

Seriously, if Bethesda can get Oblivion with hundreds of hours of gameplay, massive environments and dozens of hours of voice and music onto a single layer DVD then you have to ask yourself what rockstar is doing wrong or atleast how they can do better.

I doubt i will buy GTA IV anyway does my head in, i don't find it that amazing and i don't know why it's so popular. People must just love driving around the same place all the time, doing extreamly similar missions. Drive somewhere, pick something up, kill someone. then do it all again. We the Xbox 360 fans have Saints Row on DVD on our systems as well and it's a huge game complete w/online Multiplayer.

Technically, if quad layer DVDs happen, then so can Quad layer Bluray. BLuray using dual layer now. And by the way, MGS4 might end up using a full 50 Gigs. That's something significant.
