If fallout 3 was turned up to 11, and put on steroids, you'd get RAGE (by the looks of things anyway). I'll be getting this! There's not enough vehicular mayhem in games nowadays--let's hope it delivers!

phalanx_mark5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

The environments shown are barren and dont show off a lot of geometry just megatextures to cover this up. The megatextures look awesome and are deployed all over the show including the skybox and the smoke-particle effects! not places where the texture budget is normally spent but tech5 feels like a one-trick pony. Cryengine 3 is easily prettier than this.

Hellsvacancy5388d ago

I dont know wot your problem is its either your tryin 2 act clever (thats a nice way of sayin your chattin sh|t) OR your just a hard person 2 please

I like the looks Rage DEFO a 1st day buy 4me

phalanx_mark5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

i'm not hating on it i am looking forward, but after seeing Lost Planet 2 even modern warfare 2 i cant get hyped by the graphics no matter how pretty the textures. Graphically-speaking it just does not look mind blowing. The ID hype is fueling the reaction. Im not saying its bad, its obviously looks beautiful for a 60fps open worlder, and tech5 will be amongst the best engines available no doubt. But if you want to kid yourself this is the second coming carry on, i'm just saying what i see.

if the gameplay is good i'm in thats all

Reibooi5388d ago

That was incredible. The game looks great and I can only imagine it will look better the closer to release it gets.

phosphor1125388d ago

Bioshock, Fallout 3, Motorstorm/Twisted Metal just all had a baby together. And it just created a great looking game.

Some things like the effects don't look as amazing as KZ2, but the environments, wow, the best I've seen in any game yet.

gdguide5388d ago

Looks to me like a slight downgrade though from when I first saw it. Still looks awesome, but not as amazing as when I first saw it. I also hope that they get the balance right. The racing IMO could be like a Motorstorm Light, but combat looks great.

JsonHenry5388d ago

I was thinking the same thing. The graphics looked like what I was expecting on the consoles. But it certainly did not look what I thought a top end PC would be able to pull off. And they almost certainly played that using PC hardware at Quakecon.

Which means it does not look nearly as good as the previous trailer made it out to be. Oh well, still looks good. And it seems like it might be fun and in the end that is all that really matters.

LordMarius5388d ago

looks a bit cartoony for my taste

OhReginald5388d ago

it doesnt look cartoonish to me....it just looks....average...i expected more.....this game looks like an average first person shooter...nothing more..nothing less.

Defectiv3_Detectiv35388d ago

I would hardly call this game cartoony. It has exceeded my expectations; I have yet to see a game that has combined elements of racing/shooters as seemingly flawless as this - not to mention the art design, this is the best looking dystopic future I have ever seen portrayed in a game.

My only worries are whether or not it will be open world/sandbox style gameplay, where you have to basically go around and pick whatever missions you want. I'm kinda getting sick of these games(Prototype,Infamous,Red Faction,etc.). Sometimes linear gameplay isn't so bad!

SuperM5388d ago

Im curious how you and other people are so good at spotting whats average and whats not. Not that many driving/racing combo games out there and not many games that can match the graphics in this game. And no games at all that can match the graphics @ 60fps which this game runs at.

So im curious just what is it that makes this game look average? Is it the guns? Is it the amazing animation of the detailed mutants? Is it the madmax style environments?

Personally im very excited about this game. I love the idea of a racer/shooter set in a postapocalyptic universe like this one, and the madmax feel of it all. This is the kind of game that i get excited about just hearing about it. And seeing that it looks so extremely good as it does and running at 60fps at consoles it just makes me that much more excited.

NegativeCreepWA5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

Says the guy with a sack boy avatar, I also notice hes wearing a Infamous outfit, a game that has a comic book art style. I think your a hypocrite.

SuperM, around here any multi-plat game is average no matter how good it is. Only exclusives can look good. Correction only PS3 exclusives can look good on this site.

All-35388d ago

It's been stated over and over again by id software that Rage --> will NOT be a sandbox game.

It has a huge open world is all they've stated.

NOTE: Though the world will be large, it is not a sandbox title or traditional "open world" game--players will need to complete the game's story quests in a linear fashion.

NOTE: The shooter gameplay will play out in the tradition of id FPS titles.

# Two player online co-op is confirmed for consoles and PC. Console players will also have the option of split-screen co-op.

# Co-op will be an entirely separate mode that will not include the story elements of the single player campaign.

# Hooper mentioned "armor" and "inventory" systems, and indicated that there will be some type of world economy that the player can participate in.

# Vehicles are being used as an "extension of the player," allowing users to drive to instances, or race on tracks that are found in each town.

# Racers will have two seats for co-op riding, with one player manning a gun.

# Vehicles can run over monsters, but the gore will be limited, as id is shooting for a Teen rating to broaden its audience.

# Training missions played at racetracks will teach players new vehicle skills.

# Instances, encounters and items will be crafted, not procedurally generated as in a game like Diablo.

I'm stunned that this is called stunning.

ape0075388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

it really looks too good to be true, the gameplay is looks stunning, concetrated and action packed,scoop\size is amazing, the world is HUGE

It's ALMOST a rule that the if u make the game world BIGGER,the more the gameplay feels less concetrated but I can't see that in this trailer, the fps action looks on par or better than these standard shooters that have small maps\size(cod,kz2etc..) better yet the game world is unbelievably HUGE,u really expect this quality in a smaller game ,that's a dream

this looks like a dream

dirthurts5388d ago

It looks fantastic. The gameplay looks close and controlled, but the world seems open and free. Hard to do. I look forward to this one.

ape0075388d ago

the gameplay itself look unbelievable, fluid and runs at 60fps

ID FTW

Atomic5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

^^^^
Damn Xbox 360 fanboys, easily impressed!
looks great , but nothing mind-blowing.

y0haN5388d ago

Yeah 60 fps isn't impressive at all. 20-30 fps is a much better feat.

NegativeCreepWA5388d ago

I have both, and think it looks great. Fanboys like yourself just cant admit that multi-plat games look good when they do.

ape0075388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

u know what, this site is funny, countless times people called me

"damn ps3 fanboys"

"xbox fanboy"

I guess u guys have a problem

you are one of those one sided guys who just can't see the other

LOL

I'm still learning how to look for the differences. At first I was focusing on shadows for some reason but I don't think that changes much, is it reflections that change?

rashada071788d ago (Edited 1788d ago )

It is supposed to be simulating how light actually works- so yes if light is reflecting off a surface accurately it should show reflection or an effect that matches what you are looking at in the environment. Next time you play a game look at a puddle of water there may be just a "baked" in texture that if you aren't paying attention seems like it is reflecting but it isn't. I would say though if the light is reflecting more accurately I would think that would give more accurate shadows as well.
I am still not 100% sold on it- it looks okay but I can't get over the hardware price jump for better reflections..

Taz X141788d ago

While games won't look immensely better, it opens up more possibilities overall. Understandably, the price jump is huge. But, that can be said for being at the forefront for any new technology. I'm currently using a 2080ti and while I've played a few games that enable it, the gpu also plays everything else incredibly well so it's not like you're buying this tech for ONLY that option. Enthusiasts will pay top dollar to check out the newest things, but this will eventually become an everyday consumer and by then they'll have optimized and become a lot cheaper.

warriorcase1787d ago

Ray/path tracing can be used how the developer wants it to be. Tracing can be used to calculate shadows/lighting, reflection and even audio, where audio waves are calculated on the bounce off material types to simulate enviroment and echos accuratly.

Should also keep in mind that this ray/path tracing system is different and less accurate option from Nvidias RTX branded type. McFly's is a reshade that layers over the top of the game and therefor the quality will vary drastically. For example you can see nice reflection in the Star Wars demo here but it then introduces colour clipping with the light saber. On a video of GTA 5 for example it was incorrectly projecting a reflection of a red car onto the road which caused a very faint red glow on the ground around the car.

If you want to see a good example of a game developed with ray tracing reflection and lighting in mind then you could look up the youtube video of "Control - Exclusive E3 RTX GAMEPLAY Trailer".

DigitallyAfflicted1788d ago

It supposed to add more realistic light Not actually more light effects and explosions

traumadisaster1788d ago

I hate to say it but I’m fine with fake lights, shadows, reflections. I just kind of like the effect, it’s also great it saves resources for other things.

I’ve been checking out some original Xbox games on x360/x1x and the engine has fake light streaming in through a stained glass window, and I love it even though I know it’s not real time lighting. Heck it even shifts as I move about.

I’ve about convinced my self rt and hdr just doesn’t work for me. Before hdr I would even complain damn why are the headlights killing me they are so bright.

I notice most frame rate, then jaggies, then resolution; with the last two interchangeable depending.

Other day watched an enthusiast rave over 4k and the poor guy was in 1080p. I played the same game the night before and thought wow this is clean, I wonder if it’s 4k, but knew differently and I thought wow even resolution is not always important. The next day he apologized and was surprised he could be fooled.

RaidenBlack1787d ago

EA should have released the Crysis Trilogy Remaster for this gen.

FGHFGHFGH1783d ago

How come the lightsabers don't give off any light? Even in the EA star wars game the guy uses it to light up a dark cave. I guess if it is using frostbite it will support rtx cards.
