Wii graphics being pushed to their "fullest potential" in FFCC: The Crystal Bearers

Outside of first-party Nintendo titles, the Wii hasn't been home to the most graphically superior games. MadWorld, Monster Hunter 3, and The Conduit are a few products that come to mind, but there aren't a ton of other titles that stand out visually.

I heard Pong already did that on the Wii :)

Maddens Raiders5378d ago

dear. The Wii is a perplexing animal isn't it?

"Wii graphics being pushed to their "fullest potential" in FFCC: The Crystal Bearers"

Isn't this a duplicate story? Oh wait, that was The Conduit...

badz1495378d ago

for god sake just stop it already! I know it's cool to be able to push anything to the limit like getting as many fps in games by overclocking CPU and GPU on PCs but this is nothing to be proud of! in the end, nobody cares! this is not like What GoW2 on PS2 'partially' did with the looks that matched earlier 360 games because 360 and PS3 are well established already and I doubt anybody will be impressed by the looks of any Wii games anymore - might as well never EVER again at least as long as the Wii stays non-HD!

the Wii is a non-HD console and no game will look as stunning as those on HD consoles but is this a totally bad thing? no! the Wii is unique in its own ways and while being non-HD, some Wii games manage to sell millions for what they are in terms of control, gameplay and art styles and not to forget long-time running franchises! the conduit is pushing the Wii but does it sell? no, it FLOPPED! I think Wii devs should just stop trying to compete with HD devs in terms of gfx but instead focus on at least making their games look pretty and most importantly cater to the majority of Wii owners in order for them to sell!

It's embarrassing that most devs haven't pushed the Wii beyond what the GC did (even more embarrassing to not live up to GC graphics).

Galaxy and Corruption looked great. Conduit had the tech, but not the art style (while MadWorld had all the style, but in a short, niche game). Other M, MH3, RS2 and Shattered Memories all look promising. Maybe we can add FFCC to that list.

Mini Mario5377d ago

"I think Wii devs should just stop trying to compete with HD devs "

Exactly because HD devs spend SOOO much money and cant even surpass mario kart. I agree.

"in terms of gfx but instead focus on at least making their games look pretty"

Wellit works for Paris Hilton. Just look pretty. Thats all anywayone really cares about. Too bad that shes an idiot.

"and most importantly cater to the majority of Wii owners in order for them to sell!"

Ahh i think they have heaps of games that sell really well (just because they are not a FPS's doesnt mean that they are not games). Monster hunter 3 was the most recent one (of many).

N4g_null5374d ago

It is not about pushing the graphics now it is about art direction. That is what console gaming has always been about.

Pillville5378d ago

I had a Wii first and didn't really care about the graphics, until I got my PS3 and Xbox 360. Now I can't stand to look at a Wii game.

Wii should be considered to be at the end of the last generation, not the start of this one. A GameCube 2.0.

"I had a Wii first and didn't really care about the graphics, until I got my PS3 and Xbox 360. Now I can't stand to look at a Wii game."

Well throw out all those classic ps2 games then because they would be REALLY crap by now. O and dont play any DS games because thats basically 64 bit. O and dont play any supernes, mega drive, psOne, nes games again because you may not consider them pretty (in your "logic" that is).

killzone 2 just wont be the same once the next ps is released i fear. It will flat out, ..suck.

ElementX5378d ago (Edited 5378d ago )

I thought The Conduit was supposed to push the graphics?

*EDIT* I thought I heard "next-gen grahpics on the wii" in reference to The Conduit.

ShabzS5378d ago (Edited 5378d ago )

dont know about graphics but they seem to have nailed the fps control scheme for shooters on the wii

akaFullMetal5378d ago

it will still look like crap unfortunately , I hope the wii 2 or whatever goes hd.

jsslifelike5378d ago

... but if they do not upgrade the hardware at all, 720p isn't going to be a savior to anyone.

Fierce Musashi5377d ago

Your kidding, right? I'm sure you have atleast seen the trailer. If not then you had better.

20 Cheap Wii Games to Play On Your Wii U For $20 or Less

SuperPhillip Central writes, "Currently, Wii U owners don't have a lot to play as of right now. However, the Wii U does feature something that makes it still worthy to own for those who missed out on the awesome Wii back catalog of games. A common criticism among those who are ignorant is that the Wii has few games worth playing. This assumption is most definitely false, as evident by our list of fifty of the best Wii games. That said, while you wait for some titles to finally launch on the Wii U, why not use the system's backwards compatibility to play some Wii titles that you may have missed out on? Better yet, how about you check out this list of twenty Wii games that are available for $20 or less? We could all use some financial assistance, especially in this economy, so why not be a bit frugal in our purchases? That is exactly what this list is for. If you missed out on the Wii for any reason, and you are looking for something to play on your Wii U, this list is for you!"

Not to excuse the software drought the Wii U has been in for the past couple of months, but backwards compatibility is indeed good for something in this regard.

Monster Hunter Tri really shouldn't be on this list. 3 Ultimate comes out THIS month. Unless of course you just want a cheap Monster Hunter game; in which case, knock yourself out.

Kinda saddened that Muramasas: The Demon Blade was not listed. That one was pretty cheap when I nabbed it off of Amazon around half a year ago.

darthv724076d ago

but really, the games dont have to be cheap to be fun to play on the wii-u. Metroid prime trilogy, yeah that one is pricy but it is still fun to play.

I'd say just about any game that was fun to play on the wii would be equally fun to play on the wii-u. I unhooked the wii when the wii-u was purchased. i like that the wii-u and my tv display wii games in 720p even though the games arent native.

The hdmi makes wii games look better and crisper than component on the wii. Some of the more recent wii games i got for cheap were:

kirby epic yarn, tatsunoko vs capcom, samurai shodown anthology, king of fighters orochi saga, the conduit....all of which i paid no more than $20 ea (kirby was $10).

Phil324076d ago

Oh, yes, of course. This article wasn't meant to be saying that a game must be cheap to be fun. Sorry if that message was somehow presented to you or anyone else.

DarkBlood4076d ago

agreed its best to get them wii games *like how im doing now* becuase give it a few more years it may be come nonexistent in regular stores.

but perhaps not with the wiiu being backwards compatible n all

neogeo4076d ago

Wii was the ps2 of net gen. Lots of shovelware but also some great gems

ISNeko4076d ago

Its funny that people bitch and moan about backwards compatibility, when in this case the players could fill the Wii U "drought" with Wii games we all know were overlooked by most.

mydyingparadiselost4076d ago

Just picked up Trauma Center Second Opinion for 5 bucks. Do yourself a favor and get a copy NOW. :]

TheDivine4075d ago

Well might not be all under 20 but I'd recommend

The Last Story (30 brand new)
Xenoblade ( get lucky at random GameStop 50)
New Donkey Kong Country
Pikmin 1 & 2
Okami
Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn (50ish but worth every penny)
Pandoras Tower (new for 40 launching in April)
Metroid Prime Trilogy ( pretty rare these days unforunately)
Zelda Twighlight Princess (20 or less)
Zelda Skyward Sword (20 new at best buy)
Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 (cheap)
MH Tri (under 20)
Fragile Dreams (under 20)
Arc Rise Fantasia (30)
Tales of Symphonia DotNW (20ish)
Sin and Punishment (10 or less)
Metroid Other M 10ish and one of my fav wii games ever, really underrated)
Exc exc

Truth be told wii had one of the best library's of the 3 consoles last gen. It just didnt have multiplats but what's wrong with nearly all exclusives? Lots to love. I'm still playing GameCube games to this day. Matter of fact I just bought a few new ones. Nin has never disappointed me in the games department and I'm sure the WiiU will be no different.

NC: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers Review

NC: wasn’t really a big Final Fantasy fan until Crystal Chronicles for Gamecube. This game introduced me to the series, and is still among my favorites due to its charm and innovative multiplayer mode. 5 years later, Wii owners got a sequel to this wonderful game, giving the series a huge makeover, complete with more realistic character models and an overall more mature look at the world. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers has received tons of mixed reviews since it’s launch in 2009, but I’ve gotten the opportunity to play through this game to give you guys my thoughts on it.
