Batman: Arkham Asylum - PS3/Xbox 360 Demo Showdown

While the versus/composite elements of the new Digital Foundry frame analyser are being tweaked and fixed, here are two videos to be getting on with rather than the usual composite: first the Xbox 360 game, swiftly followed up by a PS3 version showing action from exactly the same parts of the demo.

The 360 and PS3 can do about the same, with specific small differences each (physics, textures etc.) mostly not noticable. Although 98% of all multiplats prove the 360 outperforms the PS3.

Second, lately John Carmack said the 360 and PS3 CPU can do about the same, but the 360 GPU makes the difference here. Rage runs 20 to 30 fps on the PS3 now, while the 360 easily hits 60 fps.

Any PS3 exclusive could be done on the 360. Sony putting 80 mln. dollar in KZ2 makes a great exclusive engine that pushes the PS3 to its max, putting 80 mln. in an exclusive 360 engine would give the same end result, if not better because of its superior GPU in combination with the fact that the OS just takes 32MB of the 512MB, so theoretically more memories remains for other stuff compared to the PS3 and its OS.

@ toast, no its not because of ONE or even all multiplatform games (the fact that about virtually ALL run best on the 360 makes a different yes, with hundreds of games), its also because of the exclusive IP's and the best online premium social community here.

Clearly Mart is just saying that for a "marginally" difference in the game hardly constitutes a purchase of an additional $200 gaming console neglecting to realize that the PS3 is the price it is because there are more features within the actual console and talks about the other advantages the 360 has instead. The other side of the fence takes it to heart that Mart is pointing out another "inferior" multiplat game that is to my eyes and anyone elses who plays the game would never see any difference at all thus both games would be pretty equal in my books giving the edge to the PS3 version for the exclusive content.

Your MOM!!!..hahahaha....um sorry about that, well apparently the 360 version is very VERY slightly the better version, what i mean by VERY SLIGHTLY as in they could not tell the difference by eye, they needed a computer to tell them that one(360) uses a bit more motion blur than the other...but I really think Rocksteady did a great job, I mean it looks GREAT(up there with Gears 2 in visual beauty) AND runs on UE engine 3, and they got it to look great and run very smoothly on the PS3...their programmers are amazing.

Final conclusion is that even if the x360 is "easier" to develop for than PS3 and UE3 games have been mostly better on x360 so far, the PS3 is playing catch up no more. Things just can be better from now on.

Digital Foundry aren't grasping at any straws.

They always go into that amount of detail when analysing games. They don't care which platform is better they just tell you the facts of the tech behind the games and whats happening.

Great write up and technical look at both games. If by win as many of you seem to be putting it. Then you have eyes of a eagle an are looking for flaws. As is noted often about " hardly noticeable" or " not much difference, etc.

Another thing to think about. The formatting a single game between the two consoles and changes that are needed to be made. We always see the Xbox versions a little more lighter in appearance. So not a surprise there. But think about this. When a game comes out and it is exclusive to the PS3. Is it not noted to be one of the most beautiful creations ever seen by a gamer? Take MGS4, UnCharted 1 and 2 , KZ2, GOW3, Gran Turismo 5 and so on down the line. So I wouldn't get so bend over these small comparisons. I mean, the PS3 owners of this game get to download the Joker as a playable character. With more said to come. So I don't think the PS3 really looses anything here. Yet, it does gain.

So they're both quite similar in terms of frame rate.
But in graphics, the PS3 supposedly looks a bit more blurry, then again, they said that with Ghostbusters (Ie not being able to see the lights on the backpack thingy) but when I played it, you can see the details waaaaay more....Aka I think their settings were messed up on the PS3.
So they could be doing the same thing here, you never know......

I've played the demos on both systems and my impression is that they are exactly the same. This isn't a case where it's obvious like in the past. I switched back and forth like I always do to really see if the 360 was better than the PS3 (force of habit from past games). And to the naked eye, the same naked eye you'll be using when you play this game, there is no difference AT ALL. The screen tear? You'll see it on both and think "oh both have screen tear", not one has more screen tear than the other. It seems that now, in order to tell the "difference" it needs to be pointed out using some ridiculous "watchamadoodad" that TELLS you what the differences are, where to look for them, and how to train your eyes to see them.

Yeah an the 360 so isn't a PS2 with HD....oh wait that is pretty much what it is and Sony already made a PS2 form of the 360 ( http://www.play-asia.com/pa... PC an PS3 an for those who want the game to look good an if no one knew, DC is working with Sony (Hint?? DCUOnline) yeah.

All an all, both look about the same besides the light dark in PS3, other then that. Yeah, I'm now planing on getting this after playing the demo an not the one they got a GameStop that blows and I don't think you two really care about this game, because if you did getting the joker would be awesome. Its going to be fun to play as him.

Just change my pre order from the PS3 version to X360 version.

Not based on graphics or performance..but the controller.

I tried both demos yesterday and I just can't get comfortable with the DS3. This is just my opinion of course...Whichever version you get, it will be a great game.

This 360 vs PS3 comparison is straight up nonsense. If you like the game just buy it on whichever console you want to play it on and leave it at that. I don't understand why fanboys feel they have to prove why their favorite console is somehow superior.

once again, i played that on my ps3 and i swear eurogamer doesn't turn the rgb full with HDMI, on...

my ps3 demo playthrough looks as dark and awesome as that 360 footage, not the washed out ps3 one which looks like the brightness is on 100, IE the rgb not on...

what do u guys think, reason i say this is because all these comparisons have the ps3 version lighter, with less contrast and saturation. and when you turn rgb to full (granted i have hdmi, and u need it for it to do anything) it looks how its supposed to, like the 360 version here.

Glad to see another multiplat that looks better on PS3. You can add this to the likes of Burnout Paradise, GTAIV, etc....
