IGN: Fat Princess Review

IGN writes: "There's so much more to say about this "little" downloadable game, but I doubt you feel like reading a five-page review. Titan gives you a toy chest full of classes, ladders, and more and lets you tackle the same problem over and over from whatever angle you like. I thought I had Tropical Punch by the tail when I started bringing workers over through a shortcut and building springboards to launch the red team into the blue base, but the next time I played that map, my opponents had a constant guard on the well-known passageway. It's that kind of versatility that makes the game for me. Figuring out why the bombs of a worker are awesome, lighting your sword on fire, and knocking open your castle's front door just long enough to shoot someone in the face are great experiences.

I wish the servers were fixed, that there was a better leveling system, that I could form clans, and that I could make a private room that wasn't connected to my friend list, but in the end, all that matters is that this game is fun. If I had a free hour this past weekend, I played this game, and even though the review is done now, I don't see that changing anytime soon".

I'm pretty busy at the moment with 2 RPGs I have to beat before Saturday so I can get them back to Gamestop for a full refund in order to grab 2 different games without spending a red cent lol. However, either the second I get the time or they online is 90% resolved from what people are saying is when I'll pick this up.

I told 2 other buddies to download it too when its fixed so we can have the most fun with it and they are both stoked to play it themselves too once that first update hits to iron out the kinks.

Personally I haven't been overly impressed with the game, I boot the game up, spend a few minutes attempting to get online, I will then join a game only to have it lag because of P2P servers. As a PS3 user I'm not used to playing on player hosted 1st party games and I still don't understand why they went with P2P over dedicated.

The gameplay isn't too bad, the lock on mechanic struggles a bit when more than 3/4 enemies appear. The only other aspect of the game that annoys me are the boring stalemates when playing the rescue the princess missions.

To me this game just doesn't deserve a 9 in its current form, more like 7.5 - 8, with potential to score higher when/if the server situation is sorted. I really think review sites should start taking the current state of the game into account, Gears 2 should never have received a 9 when the game was practically unplayable online at launch. Ah well, back to Motorstorm PR (why didn't I get this game earlier? Split screen is so much fun, I have no idea why it scored such a low meta).

I haven't played the game yet myself, but if I was to give it a score based on videos I've seen, I'd give it 8/10 at least. Any lower and you can see your bias against the PS3, because as a downloadable title, Fat Princess is one of the best you can get in terms of replayability vs cost.

while the other networks tend to rely on old school classics, it seems like the PSN is the only network really offering NEW experiences that FEEL like those old school classics.

i really loved Braid and Castle Crashers on XBLA (amazingly fun games), but i prefer to play those types of games with the digital pad of the PS3, which just feels loads better than the 360 digital pad, so i'll be getting those as soon as they come out (especially Braid).

i played the hell out of Fat Princess all weekend. even my wife played it for hours on end, and she didn't even LIKE the damn game at first, but eventually couldn't put it down. lol.

for $15 you get a lot of game, but more importantly, there is a ton of replay value in the title, because it's just so much fun you can easily while away 2 or 3 hours each time you turn the game on (and some of those matches can be pretty long. i think my longest was 45 minutes, maybe even an hour, it was like a tug of war, just back and forth until i finally won. very intense battles).

Fat Princess is just an instant classic.

IGN is awesome, best reviews ever. In-depth analysis of the game, more than a person reviews the game, there are usually some debates among themselves about the scores and awards, unlike the retards over at Edge and Eurogamer who review an online game in a day and say they were bored!? This is no point and shoot game, this requires time. But I guess anything harder than mashing a button is too difficult for brainless bots.

fat princess is fun, i bought it over the weekend and played a little bit of the story and online. I can't really agree or disagree with the score ign gave it, cause i haven't played it enough to figure out exactly how everything works. I had fun with it though, but i was getting my ass handed to me, that's my problem with online games, i never play them enough to figure out all the tricks that everyone else knows. Fun game though none the less, im glad there's single player, that way i can go through and figure out how everything works. Online mode is chaotic as hell.

Sony and PSN came through this year, I must have spent about $200+ on the PSN this year between LBP, movies, PSN titles, and just DLC's in general, but FP takes the cake for me. All Sony need to do now is fix the online issues and put this game on the PSP.

They dont just play a few online matches and call it day while seacrching the developers websites for the details they missed about the game. I can't speak for all but Fat Princess exceeded my expectations. I only had multiplayer issues the first day. For the console loyalist out there let's not forget how long it took for CC to be patched. Both games are my type of games and I can't wait to get CC on psn to enjoy that with my ps3 brethren as I did with my 360 brethren.

This game is closer to an 7.5 or 8. I only own a Ps3 so don't call me a fanboy.

The game is fun multiplayer, but it can get old quick if the battle rages on for over 30 minutes. Of course this is assuming you can even get a game.

As for the single player...specifically the level Deep Fried, I cannot beat due to the retardness of the AI. It ends up just being a stalemate in the middle of the map. If there were some way to be able to give orders in the single player game then it would be MUCH more enjoyable.

All in all it is a fun game...Worth between 10 and 15 bucks

Oh, and if they could hit up the split screen that would be greatness.

I'm saying these games didn't deserve their scores from IGN. There are obvious reasons such as GTA IV being repetition on a grand scale, Metal Gear Solid 4 suffering from a long winded and perplexing story and Halo 3 not doing anything new to the genre. (Even through I like Halo 3)
