They've maintained recently that the exclusivity was a financial decision indicating a contract exists between Ubisoft and Microsoft. It's unlikely that there will be a simultaneous release as Microsoft would be granted some period of exclusivity regardless. That said, the delay wasn't surprising and it has nothing to do with polish or the title going multiplatform. It has everything to do with companies hoping the economy forcast changes in 2010 and sees the industry grow. Wow, two dumb, speculative articles in one morning for the same site. Is that a record?

Lots of games that aren't ready and have shown only a little are getting pushed back to more realistic dates. Max Payne 3, Heavy Rain, etc. I'm actually surprised Uncharted 2 isn't getting pushed back considering how little of the single-player we've seen.

Third party exclusives are never a sure thing these days, but I have a feeling that this game won't be coming to the PS3 right away. It will come out for the PC and 360 and then sometime later they will announce that they are bringing it to the PS3.

Every Splinter Cell game has been available on a Playstation platform and it would be kind of sad if Conviction was the first game to break that tradition, but at the same time I think Microsoft will do what they can to at least hold on to a timed window of exclusivity.

I'll get it for my 360 ( always played the franchise on xbox since the first game) though just for the campaign, I no longer have live as I don't see the merits of paying for a service when its free else where and fairly comparable in terms of useful features.

I figured that as I'm pretty skint atm and I played more online on PSN anyway(KZ2 and MGO are just more my thing right now than Gears and Halo-plus I just won't give up Warhawk which is still really busy)-I used to love TF2 on Live but, for me(and I dread it coming to PSN)X game chat ruined it completely.

That is a good point, I didnt think about how other dev didnt say the same for Sony. However there could be good reason for that. When i think of the original Xbox in the beginning it was only really known for Splinter Cell and Halo and MS must of put a lot of effort into promoting it which is why Ubi may want to make it up to them cause they may do the same for them again.

While all the games on the PS platforms which jumped shipped likely only ever went to Sony in the first place cause they didnt want to use Nintendo's expensive storage medium. And I doubt Sony help the dev at all apart from letting them use their system

Only reason SC: Conviction is set Spring 2010 for jumping out the overcrowded fall/winter in games. They will sell more in Spring when there aren't so many games out.

See you can list all these game like it matters, I was referring to titles at the same level as Splinter Cell. There is no reason that SC shouldn't be able to hold it's own against MW2, ODST, AC2 and Uncharted 2. The only game close to what splinter cell is is AC2.

Wolfenstein is not what it once was and with such an early release date, it's obvious the publisher doesn't think it can make it during the holiday. RPGs are usually not ginormous sellers the way that shooters are. And Brutal Legend is a new IP and Tim Shaefer doesn't have the best of luck when it comes to sales; look at Psychonauts. The only other game that would put a pinch on SC is Beatles Rockband.

ASS CREED sold over 8 million copies worldwide. Thats as much as Halo 3 did.

MW2 sold over 10 mil copies or something like that. Maybe even more.

Uncharted 2 is going to break Uncharted 1 record which is no slouch either. My personal prediction is 4-5 million copies.

Its pretty crowded.

Though, if you are not FPS/TPS or Action/stealth, I dont think you have anything to worry about.
MW2 is FPS and Ass creed is action/stealth. Everything else dont really compete with these titles.

So Ratchet is pretty safe and so are some other titles. But L4D2 is going to sink bad. Halo 3 ODST is going to do poorly for a Halo title but still good for a video game.

I think Halo RTS or whatever its called, was the beginning of the decline for Halo. But we will see.

Assassin's Creed sold about 2 million less than Halo 3 and it was a multiplatform title. But still 8 million for a brand new franchise is amazingly good.

I predict Uncharted 2 at around 3-4 million lifetime.

Either way this holiday is stacked when you consider Halo and MW2 will both probably shift upwards of 8-10 million copies each.

Uncharted 1 stands at about 2m so id think more along the lines of 3m for the sequel, assuming it turns out as good as the orginal.

I don't think Uncharted 2 will get those sales. God of War III maybe. On the other hand, God of War II sold only 3 mln. when the installed base of the PS2 was close to 100 mln. units.

So don't know. I think indeed Uncharted 2 possible will hit 3 mln. sales, but don't forget because of the overcrowded season even Uncharted might have some problems with consumers not being able to spend their money multiple times and are investing in Guitar Hero 5, Brütal Legend, Assassins Creed 2, Modern Warfare 2 etc etc also.

Uncharted 2 WILL sell a lot of copies whether you like it or not. Its one of the most hyped games around and the clear winner of E3 2009. Uncharted 1 sold over 2,5 million copies. Halo 3 ODST and L4D will get SLAUGHTERED by MW2. Only morons will go head to head against MW2. Halo 3 offers nothing new, is an expansion pack (more appropiate as a DLC), correction, a 6 hour EXPANSION pack that they are charging full retail. It is overcrowded period. Splinter Cell: Conviction will sell better in Spring 2010 then it would at the end of 2009 period. Holidays are to overcrowded, I don't think this many great games have been released in a year ever before, although having Bioshock 2 and others already delay have some impact.

If it does go multi, and I think it will eventually, it will probably be like Bioshock with some added crap to appease PS3 fans for having to wait. In all likelihood, it will come to the PS3 because games are getting too expensive to only release on one console. It's just the way it is. non exclusive games do not hurt the 360 because the fact that most Multiplats are usually better on the 360 means that most will buy the 360 version anyway, it's not like it will increase PS3 sales is it, Uncharted 2 should in theory help sales but who in there right mind would buy a more expensive console just to play the inferior multiplat, chances are even if it did go to the PS3 the 360 version would still be better.

But not everyone has both consoles at their disposal... Out of the 31 million 360 owners, I bet not more than 3-5 million would have both and that too I am exaggerating a lot. Given these economic hardships, not everyone can own both the consoles. If SC is coming on both, then I won't be tempted to go out and buy a 360 for playing the 360 version since it looks 0.1% better than the PS3 one. On contrary, if this game were a 360 exclusive (only on 360 not even on PC), then I would be tempted to go and buy a 360... I own a PC and can experience it on my PC which makes '360 exclusive' just a marketing term (since this and Alan Wake will eventually make it to PC).

And please don't start the sales thing all over again.. If you see the % of 360 and PS3 owners who buy a multi-plat, then 360 yields greater numbers only cause there are 7 million more 360 owners out there due to the head start... GTA4 sold relatively well on PS3 seeing that 360 fanbase was more at that time.. RE5 and SF4 sold better on PS3....Same trend is seen for other games (except Prototype since Infamous was out then). I bet if the 360 and PS3 were at the same number of units sold, then most games would have sold equally if not better on the PS3 since the penetration % is more.. Don't only go by NA numbers, see the entire world.

Please stop proclaiming every multiplat to be better on the 360... The difference hardly matters as it's not a 'Console buying factor'. Exclusives always are and will be 'Console buying factor' and loosing an exclusive hurts to both like it or not.

I was really excited for this game but ANOTHER delay? I mean geez I understand the reason for the first delay since MGS4 would have definately OVERSHADOWED it but WHY the delay NOW? The game looked GREAT as it is. U cant sit there & tell me this time they were afraid of Modern Warfare 2. They are 2 different games, & this game would do well sales wise anyways.

I am more afraid that by the time this game comes out, it would end up like haze where it DID LOOK GOOD when the first showed it but they brang it out too late and it didnt look so good as it did due to so many other awesome games. Didn't you read the previous SC article where Ubisoft said that the game requires polishing? There they mentioned that the part showcased at E3 was highly polished and the entire game wasn't looking up to that mark... Even a recent podcast on N4G (I don't remember by whom, but just a few days back..) also mentioned that what the guy saw of SC wasn't looking up to the E3 mark... Then he said that the version that was show cased at E3 might have been the PC version.. You see everything fits... The game requires polishing, and lots of it.

Even I don't get the 360 fanboys blaming MW2 for this... I mean if this game gets a december released date, then how does MW2 come into the picture? I would any day release the game in December and earn more sales (since Holiday season) than releasing it in March (that too against God Of War 3!!!).

Frankly speaking, all these delays are really concerning.. This game was supposed to come out 2 years back!!! If delays are only for polishing, then it's ok, but we all know how delayed games can land up... (best examples Too human and Haze(Ironically from Ubisoft!!!))... "God Of War" was never a big seller, not even on ps2's huge install base, and the same goes for every H&S game.
Thus a H&S game can not reduce the sales of a good action adventure like SC:C.
Actually it can goes the other way around, Splinter Cell could easilly steal the thunder from GOW3.

Too Human wasn't developed from UBI but from "Silicon Knights" and was published by MGS.
Also Haze was developed from "Free Radical Design" and only published by UBI.

@xtremist... SC:c stealing thunder from GOW3 lol.... No game in PS2 era has sold exceptionally well apart from GT series and Halo series (on Xbox).... Even MGS4 with 1/5th of PS3's sold as compared to PS2 has sold more (5 million) better than MGS3 (which actually sold like GOW2 around 3-4 million)... In short, sales this gen are actually better if compared to last gen (percentage wise).... This time GOW3 is no doubt a system seller.. It might not reach GT or Halo numbers, but it definitely will reach MGS4 or Gears number (around 4-5 million).. The main reason would be a PS3 slim or PS3 price cut=more PS3 owners out there.... By the time GOW3 will land, more than 31-32 million PS3's will be in the market if not more (as per Sony's 10 million prediction... and their recent PS3 parts order)...

As far as SC:c landing in december... Trust me, the game will sell more if it's released in December... The game just requires polish and that is why it's delayed. I don't know why 360 fanboys are blaming MW2 for this... If Uncharted 2 can release near MW2, well so can SC:c.. The only reason for SC:c to be concerned is that it won't attain that System selling title if GT5 gets delayed into February... Trust me, even GOW3 will suffer against it if that happens leave alone SC:c... GT5 is like Halo for PS3.... Nothing can beat it.

Konami employees were also joking about being multiplatform, and even one of the CEO's *if I got that right* stated they were looking into porting it.

They burned themselves badly when the articles looked like they could affect sales, so they started saying "I (we) don't know why everyone is saying that MGS4 is going multiplatform".

Usually, in official press release, they mention all platforms the game is coming to. This was the official announcement press release for Splinter Cell Conviction. The absence of PS3 in the article means that it is currently, in no tangible sense, being planned for a PS3 release. If it was, that would have been in the announcement.
