Splinter Cell: Conviction Delayed until 'March Quarter'

There's a whole host of delays coming out of today's Ubisoft investor update, but this is the one that'll likely hurt the most: Splinter Cell: Conviction has been moved from the fourth quarter of 2009 to the first quarter of 2010.

Is it REALLY a duplicate story? The other one is just the financials for the quarter. I think that this piece of information that was buried inside the financial report is worth having its own headline so that passers-by catch it. A lot of people don't care about sales and won't be particularly interested to examine a financial report. People waiting for this game will want to know it's delayed, and if they don't read some arbitrary financial report article they're not going to find out? I think a separate article highlighting this information deserves to go through, personally.

No one is interested in actually getting news to gamers around here. I had the same thing happen last week. Posted an article about 360 sales since the price cut and it failed twice by people too lazy to read it, stating it was a dupe of Microsoft fiscal update. Finally had to have the mods step in and reinstate the article.

Same thing's going on here. Sure this tidbid was buried in the fiscal update, but let's use some common sense here, people. Clearly the delay is newsworthy and warrants mention on it's own. Let's worry about getting news to gamers, which is what this site is supposed to be about.

2010 looks absolutely insane for Microsoft. I've never seen a better lineup of games for a console.

Microsoft is ending this year and starting next with a bang.

Forza Motorsport 3, Halo 3 ODST, Left 4 Dead 2, Ballad of Gay Tony. Those games alone will sell a couple millions, and next year stuff like Splinter Cell, Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2 will obliterate the competition.

Good strategy by Microsoft.

Wow, another delay. The 360's lineup is pretty weak now in my opinion. It's ok, better than the Wii's, but worse than the PS3's.

The only game that interests me now on the 360 is Halo 3 ODST and even that is not a game I am dying to play.

Looking at the lineups for the entire year it's even more apparent that the PS3's is better/

I am not adding in all the dinky crappy games or downloadable games or expansions, just the big good games.

The PS3 lineup is far better in my opinion. Left 4 Dead 2 really isn't even an exclusive to me because I play Left 4 Dead 2 on the PC and think of it as a PC game. But even adding that game onto the list, the 360 lineup isn't that impressive to me.

I can understand not wanting to shell out the extra cash for the Fanatec when you already have a force feedback setup. A couple of my friends think I am a little crazy for doing it but I want to play Forza 3 with a really good wheel. I just hope it's worth it.

I have the Logitech G25/ Playseat Evolution combo for the PS3 and it's an awesome setup. I am pumped for the Fanatec wheel because of the belt driven force feedback. Plus it has rumble in the wheel and pedals (at an extra cost for the Clubsport).

From the user feedback of people that have tried the Porsche 911 S say that the force feedback feels more realistic than the G25. I hope the G27 works for both as well. If the G27 does work for both I will swap out my G25 and have 2 wheels and c0ckpits for driving games.

By the time these delays are over, we won't have any quality games to play until next year. What's next? Uncharted 2? Assassins Creed 2? Let's hope not. This year initially had so many (possible) AAA titles releasing that many wondered where to get the money to purchase them all. Now even a hobo can buy the titles we're left with in 09. Oh well, at least MW2 will get plenty of play time.

Wow. This was honestly the only 360 exclusive I planned to buy this year if the reviews held it 8+ from big name sites. So many games I was just thinking of renting are now possible buys for me with this news.

Even Uncharted 2 is afraid of MW2. Don't you ever wonder why Uncharted 2 is releasing in October instead of the usual November? They're not releasing in October because they love us gamers. I quite understand Ubisoft decision, and makes a lot of sense if you stop and think about it. Remember that november got not only MW2, it has AC2 as well and L4D2 for Pc/360. Probably Conviction is too crude for august/september release, octuber is one of a hell packaged, november is for MW2 and another title form Ubi itself. I doubt Ubi wants Coviction takes away AC2 spotlight so fast, so december is for AC2 to sell. Pros for Ubi, Conviction gets more polishing time, cons: they fail miserably after promising a 2009 release.

Good points Raztad fella. Add to your AC2 stuff the thing I was thinking. AC2 and the link up to the new PSP AC game is something they don't want to move as it will be two games almost in abundle getting lots of hype from Sony(who, for some reason, DO advertise PSP stuff)to push the PSPGO!, imo. This made SCC the easier to move-and also as MS and Ubi have always made sure that SCC would be a decent game and took lots of care they just WILL NOT risk hurting the franchise with little risks when they could play it safe. Thye didn't scrap it once to mess it up now and also, after DA the AC franchise is prolly bigger to Ubi right now that SC is.

Red Steel2, on the other hand, just cannot be finished. Also, as a disgusted UK gamer I will NOT be getting MW2(well not in my nation at that price anyway-preowned at a guess unless IW speak out to say Acti are out of order then I might import it)so I'm hoping that MAG might still be pre Xmas-I like the look of it much better myself in any case and, personally, I don't see how avoiding MW2 by a month or two would help. People will just be on the MP then anyway so FPS games should ignore MW2 as it'll sell strongly for aaages. If you're scared of it make a different kind of game and remember that the rubbish WaW sold more than the sainted COD4 anyway so the market is mental.

I also think that the games being delayed make Xmas look more and more like a very, very good time for Sony to let PD drop Gt5. If they can add the slim/pice cut then all the better for them as well-whatever it does look like an opportinoty for them if they have the ability to do one or both.

in relation to polish, if it's been in the works for 4 years then that means they've been building a game engine over that time too.

Why? U2 has always looked the better game to SCC. Pretty much every site put it ahead of SCC in every judgable quality at E3 and it's been U2 that's actually shown the big improvements since then.

SCC is a fine looking and interesting mechanic filled game but, at this point at least most unbiased ve=iewers would put U2 ahead of it. But in any case to feel that someone preferring U2 must be high is beyond daft, imo. So far I'd imagine much of the GOTY money could well be riding on a battle between MW2 and U2, no? KZ2 released too early, imo, and most GOTY aren't released so early, are they?

- The game suddenly gets delayed.
- No reason is given FOR the delay.

I wonder...if Ubisoft is pulling a Namco here. After all, nothing seems to be WRONG with the game right now, and there is just too many delays here (remember how delayed Tekken 6 got before they announced the 360 version, and what we all thought those delays REALLY were for: to get it to work with the 360 and have the two versions release same day).

The plot thickens for 2010 with Splinter, Alan Wake, and Mass Effect 2 now all dropping back to back on the 360.

With Splinter out of the picture the flashlight will now shine on all of the other great games dropping.

I was finally getting around to finishing Prototype, Star Ocean 4, Lost and the Damned. But, I keep getting derailed by friends playing Battlefield 1943 and the latest COD:WAW map pack.

Now we got the new Gears of War: All Fronts collection and Shadow Complex dropping.

September 22nd will be the day millions and million of Halo fans lose countless hours of their lives.

October brings on Forza 3 and Dragon Age: Origins.

November is just gaming heaven with Modern Warfare 2, Assasin's Creed 2, and Left 4 dead 2 all dropping within a week of each other.

I for one will easily be dropping 500-600 dollars between now and the holidays on gaming. To start there's my annual Madden and NBA purchase. But this year holds alot of dark horses. If Tony Hawks Ride lives up to the E3 hype I will most likely get it. Games like Dark Void and Borderlands may also drop and if Ballad of Gay Tony even comes remotely close to the bar set with 'Lost' then that's another purchase that will be made.

Life is already great as a 360 owner this year, but the Splinter move ensures that next year is going to gaming crack.

Uncharted 2 was never given a date other than Fall 2009. Any date for September was a guess/assumption on the part of retailers, analysts, journalists, etc. Sony and Naughty Dog announced October 13th and it was the first date other than the vague Fall 2009 window that they ever announced.

Forza 2 & 3 will have been released before GT5 hits the shelf =)

The 360 still has more games this holiday than the PS3. You have Unsharted 2 & possibly MAG whereas we have Forza 3, L4D2, Section 8, Raven Squad, Tropico 3, Magnacarta 2, Risen, Blood Bowl and more.

Then there are Halo: ODST, Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta, GTA IV: Ballad of Gay Tony and the new GeoW 2 pack.

On PSN you have Fat Princess and Trine. XBLA has Shadow Complex, Splosion Man, Raskulls, Monkey Island SE, Trials HD, Ion Assault, South Park, Raiden IV to mention a few.

Add to that all the great multiplat games that will perform better on the 360. Games like Brütal Legend, Dragon Age: Origins, Borderlands, Max Payne 3, Red Dead Redemption, MW2, Tekken 6, Alpha Protocol etc.

There are already too many must-have games for me this holiday to care about wether one game gets delayed or not.

360 may have more exclusives coming out, but ps3 will have a line up this year with just as much quality if not more. Other than uncharted 2, theres always Ratchet and Clank, Demon's Souls, NGS 2 - and possibly MAG and GT5. It is pretty obvious all these games will be quality. So yh at the moment both line ups for the rest of the year look promising. For the first half of the year - it is pretty obvious who had the best games out ;)

PS3 has a great line-up for next year, too (White Knight Chronicles, MAG, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, The Last Guardian, ModNation Racers, Quantum). And I noticed you're assuming there will be a Gears 3 for next year. PS3 will surely have something Fall 2010 that hasn't been announced yet, too. Resistance 3 would probably be a good guess. And the Wii will remain top in sales, and even add a couple of delightful titles for core gamers - Metroid Other M and Super Mario Galaxy 2 alone are going to be HUGE. Every year is just simply a good year for games, and we should be thankful for that. It's because of this stalwart competition between the industry leaders that we're offered such awesome titles in such high quantity through each year. Splinter Cell: Conviction wasn't truly on anybody's 'must-have' radar until E3 (less than two months ago)

We got the release date for the game a short time afterwards (still less than two months ago)

Ubisoft check their earnings and said let's' push it to the first quarter (AGAIN less than two months AFTER it was shown at E3)

So this announcement is far far from some industry disaster..In fact I love it. Microsoft got another game to keep 360 owners busy during the PS3 'God of War 3' campaign.

Why is this significant? Because we all saw what a little RTS did against the self proclaimed 'Halo Killer'.

Without the King Kong of Multiplatform FPS' dropping around the same time, 360 gamers can focus on Splinter Cell: Conviction without any distractions. In fact, I don't know ANY developer that wouldn't take another 8 months to polish up their big name project. (We all know PS3 developers really love extra time)

The funniest part of all of the droid nation exposing themselves in celebration is the fact that 99% of them had games like 'God of War 3 and Heavy Rain on their 2009 year of the PS3' list. But, now they are trying to cry wolf over Splinter Cell Conviction?

Face the facts..there are only two games that will do record number pre-orders this year..hint hint..one's from Bungie and the other is from Infinity Ward. My favorite part is knowing that more dual dual console owners (the ones in the real world) will purchase a Bungie side project than Killzone 2 and Infamous put together.

I loved Halo Wars..but even an idiot wouldn't claim that was even close to being one of the big boys dropping in 09'. The game was crazy fun for the fans and an all-time sleeper. It don't matter how many of the Xbox haters try to pretend..360 fans will take ODST, Forza 3, Shadow Complex, and of course Left 4 Dead 2 over Killzone 2, Infamous, a baseball game, and Uncharted 2.

While the same 20 people complain that exclusives are all that matter...the rest of us will be thoroughly enjoying Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and the A. Creed sequel.

Uncharted 2 is the only light at the end of this year's PS3 tunnel and even though the first one was really fun and the single player will be as cool or better, the mutli-player won't even be in the same league as what Bungie and Infinity Ward will bestow upon the masses in 09.

In short, the trolls can keep the hate coming all year long, in the real world we'll see how many systems will move because Ratchet and Uncharted are released. I don't know any Xbox gamers that got ANY of those games in their holiday envy list. But, it's still pure comedy on N4G.com to watch how PS3 owners are so emotional of the success of the 360 that they will say anything.

you are comparing splinter cell to god of war. like you said splinter cell wasn't in anybody radar until e3. but god of war has been for years.another point isnt going to challenge god of war if you are a 360 owner and dont have a ps3. you probably should just buy a ps3 and god of war over getting splinter cell. i could see splinter cell being compared to heavy rain but seriously god of war. also the games you listed for 360 suck shado complex is 2 hours long. odst is a overcharged expansion . forza 3 well ill be play gt on my psp go, so im not sure what game that are going to be worth playing on 360. even if alot of people bought forza the same amount and even more will buy gt. i understand you a bot without alot of money. but reality is ps3 is hitting its stirde and their games are outweighing the competition.

The facts speak for themselves, Halo Wars 'did great numbers for an RTS released during PS3's self-proclaimed AAA Killer App. Like I said, it's brilliant for Sony and Ubisoft to release Splinter cell within the same month as GOW3.

If these companies are delaying to avoid MW2 then it won't help much that with so many games being pushed into early 2010 they're going to have stiff competition for sales with each other and big hitters like ME2 and GOW3

look at all these comments. still i just don t see how this game isnt coming to ps3 in some new title. Ms isnt going to bring ubisoft the profits alone especially seeing that ps3 makes them more money. Also this game has now been put in a time zone that pushed it off of my list of games to get.
