Tale of Tales: "Stop buying Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2"

9lives.be: "When asked what advice they would like to give gamers, Michaël and Auriea (from Tale of Tales, makers of The Path) acknowledged that gamers are attracted to games exactly because they are games. "Of course, it would be nice if they would look and play games on a different level and went looking for other experiences. My advice would be directed towards the developers first and foremost. They are the ones who should create something different, something challenging for gamers out there.

But if we had to give an advice to gamers, I'd keep it simple: Gamers often say that they are tired of sequels and that they want innovation… Well… stop buying Gears of War 2 or Resistance 2 then," Michaël said.

Auriea added that they didn't want to stop people from playing what they wanted, but that sometimes, they just feel the urge to shake the gamer to wake them up.

Michaël and Auriea also feel that gamers should be more respectful on the internet and that they should not always scream and shout just because someone else doesn't like their game.

Aside from the, the interview talks about their future plans, their favourite fairy tale and which platforms might see their games one day. They also respond to the common question that games are too short. They believe that this is not the case, as most non-gamers will actually say that games are still too long. Check the interview after the link to see whether they agree or not."

oh right.
8-player co-op.. 60 multiplayer isnt innovative at all ^^

Neither is horde mode i guess.

Wow, just great!

"Auriea added that they didn't want to stop people from playing what they wanted, but that sometimes, they just feel the urge to shake the gamer to wake them up."

I got an idea, make a better new IP, advertise it and if its good enough it will "shake" the world like Gears did, and theres no doubt "Gamers" will buy it...*wake me up when you deliver.

btw, I do agree with them that gamers should be more respectful on the internet and stop screaming and shouting because someone doesn't like their game but at the same time making comments saying gamers should stop buying Gears or Resistance sounds really out of place on his part.

Why are machine translated articles accepted?

There is an entire interview here that is barely comprehensible. I am not informed by this, just confused.

FrankenLife5405d ago

Ummm horde mode isn't innovative. They just did it well. That kind of gameplay has been around for a long time. The high player count in R2 isn't so much innovative as it was groundbreaking. It is something that hadn't been done on the console, but it isn't a new idea or concept.

SpoonyRedMage5406d ago

They seem really pretentious from what I could actually read.

PrimordialSoupBase5406d ago

Play their game... you ain't seen nothing yet.

ElementX5406d ago

What's The Path? Never heard of it... And this guy is telling people to quit buying popular games?

TheIneffableBob5406d ago

It's a very interesting adventure game. It's pretty good, in my opinion, but it's far from your conventional game.

kaveti66165406d ago

No, this guy is pointing out a contradiction that many gamers have. First, they yell, "We want more innovative games," but then millions go out and buy sequels like Gears 2 and Resistance 2, and this guy is basically saying that if you desire innovation then show the developers and the studios that you're not going to keep buying rehash sequels. Resistance 2 and Gears 2, while great games, are not leaps and bounds ahead of their predecessors and for the most part the innovations in resistance 2 are to the multiplayer rather than game mechanics and storytelling.

These guys sound arrogant, but I see their point.

Syronicus5406d ago

Many of those that buy Gears and Resistance are not those complaining about innovation but love their games and their respective sequels. It's a small minority of very loud gamers that cry for innovation and it shows in sales whenever a dev steps out and makes something new and different. There are countless examples of this and if these guys in the article were truly abreast of the issue they would have already known this. Sounds like arrogance to me.

DaTruth5405d ago

It's mostly the reviewers who use "no innovation" as a way to dock games not on their favourite system and then they don't notice the lack of innovation on games for a select system. There's a whole bunch of blogs that just pop up and hurt metacritic scores with low scores a month down the road; These guys had to buy their copy of the game to review(if they even played it).

Any review on metacritic should only be added to the average if the website has an actual gaming magazine in circulation!

Gears of War is my favorite video game franchise, and the Locust is my all-time favorite faction.

My rank list:
1. Gears of War 2
2. Gears of War 3
3. Gears of War 1
4. Gears of War 4
5. Gears of War 5
6. Gears of War Judgment (No Locust in multiplayer was a disgrace)

ChasterMies692d ago

Agree 100% with this ranking. The campaign in Gears of War 2 is among the most fun campaigns ever made. It’s been downhill from there.

Zombieburger638692d ago

I’d say gears 2 and 3 are pretty even. I absolutely loved both of them.

darthv72693d ago

2 is still my favorite but 5 is also up there (for me). Then I'd say 1, 3, 4 and Judgement. Tactics isnt the same type of game, so it seems odd to rank it among TPS when its a strategy game. So I make that one all its own. Pretty fun game too.

Jericho1337693d ago

The first is and has always been the best one imo - the story, the levels, the set pieces, the soundtrack - as close to perfect as a campaign can get.

I’d say the series had been on a continual downhill slide until 5.

Om4ever692d ago

Naaaan ... 2 is the best by far

MadLad693d ago

3
5
2
1
4
Judgement

I love the series as a whole, but 4 was pretty by the numbers, and Judgement was just ok.

LoveSpuds693d ago

I played them all since picking up a Series X about 7 months ago. Personally, I don't think time has been kind to the earlier games and they feel very slow and repetitive to play. Whilst the newer games may be prettier, they stick with the original gameplay mechanics too much in my view so as a whole series of titles, I think they are pretty average games.

Not to say they weren't fun and I have a lot of nostalgia for 1 and 2, I just think there are far better action games out there.

It's brilliant but personally liked part one more. It's the only one that had a near horror movie vibe to it in parts, the atmosphere was amazing.

Also, the commercial for it was 🔥🔥🔥

Neonridr826d ago

Mad World was such a perfect song for that trailer. I loved part 1 too just because it was so fresh at the time. The series has been solid, but experiencing everything for the first time was pretty awesome.

ChasterMies826d ago

Gears of War 2 has one of the greatest campaigns of all time. Carmine, all that juice, fighting inside a giant worm, and riding monsters.

Knightofelemia827d ago

Gears 1 and 2 will always be my favorite Gears titles. The scene where Dom find his wife and then has to shoot her was an epic scene.

monkey602826d ago

I always found that scene laughably bad myself. Fantastic game though.

1 will always be my favourite. Most were great with the exception of 4 being okay and judgement being terrible.

They still have the most satisfying headshots from any multiplayer game around.

lucian229826d ago

Nah I laughed, the acting was soooooooooo bad

KicksnSnares827d ago

My favorite Gears game list
1. Gears 2
2. Gears 3
3. Gears 1
4. Gears 4
5. Gears 5
6. Gears Judgement

Gears Of War is my favorite video game franchise. I can’t imagine how Gears 6 will look in UE5 after watching Hellblade 2 gameplay trailer

RetroCaptainSteve827d ago

Or if they remake 2 and 3 with that engine.

KicksnSnares827d ago

There is a rumored Marcus Fenix collection (Gears 2 & 3 remake) in the works at the Coalition. Hopefully, it’s true, but I doubt it.

Profchaos826d ago

For me you can't beat gears 1 the original was so fresh and revolutionary at the time.
Then basically I'd rank it 2,3,5,4 and judgement

Viljong826d ago (Edited 826d ago )

One of the reasons why i got the series x. Been fan since the first game.

myfathersbastard826d ago

Played them all recently on gamepass. Great games. But my favorites gotta be gears tactics. Don’t know why. I just had a blast with it lol

5

3
Judgement
4

Sciurus_vulgaris1169d ago

1. Gears 2
2. Gears 3
3. Gears 5
4. Gears 1/UE
5. Gears 4
6. Gears Judgement

Atom6661169d ago

This is the correct answer.

nibblo1169d ago (Edited 1169d ago )

Close to my rankings but some differences. My rankings:

1. Gears 3
2. Gears 5
3. Gears 4
4. Judgement
5. Gears 2
6. Gears 1

People will hate on me putting Gears 2 so low but I always felt the graphics were too busy to the point of confusion and the combat/movement hadn't really improved over 1. Lot of cool ideas but execution wasn't the best as far as I'm concerned.
