"We caught up with Peter Jackson himself last night, after a screening of District 9 – the feature-length debut of director Neill Blomkamp who had previously been attached to helm the Halo movie that fizzled out. Jackson explained that they felt like they had an amazing director in Blomkamp and they didn't want to lose the opportunity to work with him so, instead of bringing Halo to the big screen, they created an entire film based on his Alive in Joburg short. (See the rest of Blomkamp's work here, in our roundup).
District 9 – which Jackson produced and is coming to theaters on August 14 – is seriously amazing. There's a wide array of alien weapons that would make Ratchet & Clank jealous, CGI aliens that look better than Avatar, walking mech suits, and a really amazing performance from lead actor Sharlto Copley. Clear your calendars and make plans to see this one. But back to the Halo movie that never was: After the screening, we got to sit down with Jackson to ask him about just that. Read on to find out where the Halo movies stands, and if we'll ever see the long-rumored Halo Chronicles video game project."
GPT: "Many games never make it to retail shelves or digital stores. Companies go bankrupt, hit legal trouble, or just plain cancel the game because it wasn't working out. This week we'll look at five canceled games that looked like they had potential and touch upon what went wrong"
For me, it would be Battlefront 3. Loved the first two and was eagerly awaiting the third. I really love the Battlefield game series and mixing that style of gameplay (huge maps, multiple classes/weapons and vehicles) within a StarWars universe made for a really great game.
I'm really feigning for Final Fantasy Versus 13 right now. I was so hurt when Nomura said it wouldn't be out til next year.
Looking forward to the E3 footage though :)
Adam Smith from Coregamer: Word on the street suggests that Microsoft are still keen on the idea of making a Halo movie in the future, but is more likely to feature on the small screen before making the switch to cinemas. On April 1st this year, a spoof Halo movie was unveiled to provide gaming fans with a mouth-watering April Fools trick, but there have been suggestions recently that a genuine movie project or theatrical medium of sorts, could be in the pipeline.
"Word on the street suggests that Microsoft are still keen on the idea of making a Halo movie in the future"- I'm pretty sure Microsoft ACTUALLY SAID that they are keen, it's just that they are working on other things..
If were lucky Uwe Boll will direct it. (sarcasm)
Really though, Haven't gamers been disappointed enough without ruining yet another franchise with a sub par movie rendition that dumbs down the story and craps on the source material?
Who's excited for RE4??....yeah, see what I mean? LOL
Jonathan Lynch writes: "When it comes to games, this generation of home consoles hasn't seen nearly as many exclusive as systems in the past did. But both Sony and Microsoft have done quite well at securing a few great exclusives each. And of course we're running down the sexiest female characters to appear in those titles. We did a list of the top five sexiest female characters to appear in Playstation 3 exclusives last week and we have to show the same respect to the women of the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 made it pretty easy with some great looking ladies."
The joanna cosplay is weird. She's lacking the HIPS! all the other are nice.
Well, bots have nothing better to do than to rub one off to digital females since they're all hitting puberty.
Given that Christie is part of the DOA "Harem" which is also the beach volley ball game, which is on the PSP, isn't she off the list?
In other word: she's only temporarily exclusive...
It would have sucked anyways. Look at other video game movies. Doom for example.
So basically it was all for nothing and look at all the hype and push MS has behind it at the time.
Kind of reminds me of Natal..
so no halo film?
district 9 is a movie i want to check out and btw why do they compare ratchet and clank?
note that in any way i do not by any means i do not want to start a flame war with that question just wondering.
that Halo Chronicles can be considered officially dead
Who wouldn't want ANOTHER Halo spinoff? Let's try ALL OF US. Give us Halo 4 already, enough is enough.
