Was kindof interested in VA but all the negative reviews made me think twice. With the Weekend deal i decided to give it a go and i must say i am really enjoying it. It is not 90-100 game but i really think it didnt deserve the 60 metacritic. Personally id probably go with 75ish. Gameplay feels a little bit like the older Splinter Cells with a little Hitman in the mix. Both games i really like myself.

The game plays best when you try to move silently and stealth kill the enemies. As soon as you need to go into direct combat the awkward shooting/melee controlls kick in and you are dead in seconds. In most cases you can prevent this by observing the surroundings and carefull planning. For example there is a guard that is patroling a line in daylight resting at one end. If you try to take the direct approach you will be spottet because there is glass on the ground that will give you away. The solution is to wait till he is away sneak over the glass and hide in a toilet on the opposite side. When the guard comes back you have a clear path to him. Still you will die alot but with every iteration you can refine your tactic until you can clear all enemies inside a room facing each other without being spotted.

Savepoints are distributed somewhat sparsly which i really didnt like. In general id like twice as many savepoints.

On the plus side are also a veriety of interesting environment kills that keeps things interesting including: electrifying a puddle of water, pulling the pin of some soldiers grenade while he goes back to his buddies and shooting exploding barrels/gas barrels. Sometimes a combination of all of them.

All in all i think the 20€ i spent were well spent.
