Redempteur5398d ago

well i m looking forward to wee cheer on the wii ...

LOL Who am i kidding ?

Testing kratos in soul calibur psp

and Tekken 6 too

ThanatosDMC5398d ago

Dead to Rights... i loved the first one... even though it was so cliche and predictable. It was just badass especially the fist fight with the poison gas. They copied that from Jet Li's Black Mask movie. After the fight the protagonist said, "Dumb son of a b*tch!" <--- classic.

Tekken 6... it should have been out ages ago. I'm still buying it though. I just dont want to buy it for $59.99.

rockleex5397d ago

I've never heard about "Dead to Rights: Retribution" and "Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao" before? O_o

By the way, they should make a new KillSwitch game. ^_^

ThanatosDMC5397d ago

Dead to Rights tried so hard to be an over the top action game. It also failed on the PSP. But, it's one of the games i loved. Bought it for $20. It's a great game in my opinion... well at least the PS2 version...

Looking forward to Magna Carta 2 :)

Chris3995398d ago

And I love the phantom disagreer who apparently takes issue with your personal choice in software. Those are always my favorite disagrees, arguing someone else's excitement as if they had any choice in the matter.

This site is priceless :)

bankai5398d ago

i am also excited about magnacarta 2

the first magnacarta was a great game to me, i just had to overlook the sh*ttiest camera angles in gaming history (yes, even worse than those of the RE series)

Redempteur5398d ago

well bankai ...you didn't mind the shi...est battle system of an rpg in ps2 .??
Or the slow as ever start ?

IMO the only good thing about magna carta 1 was the design of the characters .every thing else was just too complicated for no reason or dull

bankai5398d ago

well i agree and disagree but since i cant give you both i will just give you +bubble for not being an as*hole. your cool imo

the battle system sorta gave me a star ocean crossed with legend of dragoon feel, you know, the ability to run all over the place and the timed button press thing. the story was also quite nice to me, very cliche but nostalgic.

the elemental lantern system was a pain in the ass to maintain though

Baka-akaB5398d ago (Edited 5398d ago )

I agree with redempteur here .

It was probably the worst jrpg of the previous generation .
It was a pompeous title trying to feel complex , when all it did was copying each unique feature of some of the following titles : legend of dragoon , shadows hearts , star ocean , chrono cross etc etc .

It tried so hard being unique that it forgot to be a game (who the hell tells you to fight real time when no character moves until you take control of them ? ) . The game is artificially hard , as it aint even a real challenge , but instead make you struggles and stumble on your own because of the interface .

As for the plot , mm it was ok but horribly generic . The game also featured the worst dub since Shining force neo .

Many people were lured by the appealing design by Hyung-tae Kim and burned in return .

The only redeeming i see in the game , is that it came originally from PC , so yeah ended up doing a pot pourri that could indeed work on pc , but couldnt be reasonably pitted against jrpg veterans .

PS : + bubbles , it's not easy to support the games and stand behind it

Chris3995398d ago (Edited 5398d ago )

They really should have pulled a Crimson Gem Saga and changed the name. Magna Carta 2 looks to share almost nothing with it's predecessor. It has a real-time, on screen battle system, and it's much more fluid and flashier than the first.

It's also made with the Unreal Engine (I believe I read that somewhere), which means that the 360 will run it, very well.

The character designs are also not nearly as transgendered as the first game either.

Some videos for the unconvinced:

http://www.gametrailers.com...

In the worst case scenario, this game will be as good as Star Ocean 4. I honestly think it will be better though.

Edit: Keep in mind that the PS2 Carta was originally ported from the PC. Magna Carta 2 has been built from the ground up for a console. All signs point to it being better than the first. It couldn't be worse :)

Redempteur5398d ago

actually i'm 23 hours into crimson gem saga ... and i find it nothing like magna carta 1 .

Decent battle system ( not fast not slow ) , a good amount of customization ..and the characters are a**holes ( but in a good way !! )except the hero . And the skill system is flexible ..and the quest system is like the game is giving you the hand in order that at NO moment in the game you're lost .

i'm actually happy to hear that they have NOTHING in common .. that way maybe one day i'll be tempted to try it .. but the scar left by the first opus is so huge it'll take time .

@bankai . the thing with magna 1 is that it had too much ... THE TUTORIAL is simply too long ... you have a powerful system with 8 elements , timed presses for criticals in the form of QTEs mixed with the skill system , you have to place yourself on the battlefield AND in the non battle area with 3 or 4 stances in order to regulate the encounter rate ... and i'm just beginning to describe the battle system ... IMO it's badly done because they wanted to do too much ...

AND 5 hours after the beginning the story hadn't even started yet ...

PS: i'm not saying that it'll be LIKE the first opus .. i was asking him why he loved the first one so much .

Chris3995398d ago

I'm saying that Magna Carta 2 is completely different from Magna Carta 1.

I was drawing a parallel with another series - Ashtonisha Story - where the first game was crap, and the second (Crimson Gem Saga) turned out to be pretty good.

I expect Magna Carta 2 will be the same way.

Redempteur5398d ago

oh i see ... BUT magna carta was still a painfull expérience for me ..can they improve like they improved ON with crimson ? i hope so ..

Baka-akaB5398d ago

Persoanlly while i have no doubt MC 2 will be better than the first (since it's not even a good game anyway) , i dont believe MC2 will be great .

Actually i didnt mind the "oddly" designed characters from the first . It probably the only think i even liked .

Here the game lost it's (artistic ) soul , with a hero (and other characters) horribly generic and dull .
Design aside there is also the problem (still imo) that it isnt impressive at all . MC1 was quite good on the technical side , and did a great job of rendering Tae kim's work . Here i quite dont feel that , with what looks like SO4 minus , and average unreal stuff .

I also highly doubt it will play better than a quite good sc4 or vesperia .

Sorry if i offend potential fans , but the whole game screams "average real time jrpg XXXX" .

Unlike you i believe that "in the best case scenario it will be like so4" .

i'll give it a chance , but even discarding Magna Carta 1's experience , i dont get a good vibe yet .
Color me unimpressed

mastiffchild5397d ago

Chris-your point that just cos the first Magna sucked doesn't mean the next will is fair enough. Thing is saying you expect it to be at least as good as SO4 doesn't say that much does it? I thought SO4 would be a return to form after finding SO3 a bit of a lapse after liking the first games a lot but it was a little worse if anything, for me.

And that's the pronlem with your theory-this gen the sequels, and the jrpgs in general on home consoles haven't been as good as last gens efforts, and not just in my opinion!

If the jrpgs on the 360 have taught me anything it's that I shouldn't assume anything! TLR is the only /REAL stinker in my book but not many have been as good as I'd hoped and I would NOT have thought that the best jrpg I'd have played this gen would have been back on the PS2 with the last two Personas! I extend the malaise to the ?PS3 games in that genre I've played with Disgaea3 not really taking advantage of the extra power in any way. The handhelds seem to have all the best classic jrpgs tied down atm and for Magna2 to buck the trend would be both cool and surprising!

That said I feel that the first one had a great game that was just dragged down by too many battle udeas that didn't gel AND, though it's a common fault in the genre for me, an awfully generic storyline. But it DID have some good looking char detail and artstyle touches which might come alive with the extra oompoh of the 360-who knows? I just wouldn't be relying on anything after being burned a few times recently!

All-Star Franchises, Underrated Entries - Part Fourteen

Phil writes, "If you've been around SuperPhillip Central for a little while (it's still okay if you haven't, so no harm done), then you know that I like talking about underrated and overlooked games. I've done various series on the subject. However, most of the time, the games mentioned in these articles are from wholly new or overlooked franchises themselves.

There are also a multitude of series that I can think of that have one, two, or a handful of games in it that aren't viewed as highly as the others, whether just or not.

These ideas are where the concept of All-Star Franchises, Underrated Entries comes from, and since our 13th edition, I've come up with six more underrated entries to big-time franchises, some bigger than others."

SuperPhillip Central's Favorite VGMs - "SuperPhillip's Birthday Bash" Edition

Phil writes, "I don't like to toot my own horn (aw, hell-- TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!), but today I celebrate my 31st birthday, and with that, SuperPhillip Central arrives with five special themes to commemorate the occasion. Sure, I was going to use these five VGMs regardless, but why ruin the spectacle of the moment?

The recently released Gravity Rush 2 leads us off with a jazzy battle theme before handing it off to Final Fantasy XI. Then, we turn our attention to Okamiden. Following that is some funk (the good kind) from Dreamcast classic Jet Set Radio. Lastly, we roll on through with a catchy song from Katamari Forever.

Hey, you! Yeah, you! Click on the VGM volume name to hear the song on YouTube! Finally, check out the VGM Database for all past VGMs featured on this weekly recurring segment. Now, let's get on to the music!"

Top 5 Fighting Gaming Crossovers That Are Not Super Smash Bros

Carl Williams writes, "In video games, we don’t see too many crossover events. It is probably due to the fact that video game companies are quite litigious with each other. That is a shame, though, as it would be interesting to see more gaming crossover events that are not Super Smash Bros or a Capcom and SNK fighting game. While it was a little bit of work, we have tracked down five awesome gaming crossovers that you have forgotten about."
