City of Metronome on the back burner?

If you are someone who enjoys watching out for innovative and creative new games for next gen consoles, then you have probably heard of The City of Metronome. Sadly though, due to many reasons the game has been pushed back and is in a redesign state.

To get some answers on what happened to The City of Metronome, PSU contacted Björn Sunesson, game developer at Tarsier Studios. Here is a short Q&A we sent over to get an idea of what Tarsier is doing and what future plans they have for The City of Metronome.

Six promising games canceled before their time

"The history of gaming is a road that has been paved with failures (Virtual Boy), left-field success stories (Wii) and properties that have failed to attain the recognition they deserved (Dreamcast).

There have been great, ambitious games, such as Limbo, that have stewed in development hell for ages. And then there are games that catch the public interest only to fade away into obscurity, whether from corporate negligence, development issues or companies that failed to take a risk on their production.

The following is a brief list documenting the rise and fall of six titles that, for all the right reasons, looked incredible from the start and yet never had the chance to get off the ground." - Maxwell Coviello

City of Metronome has not been cancelled yet, the studio still has it in their projects section on their website.

The GateAway & Eight Days :(

madpuppy3865d ago

Eight days looked so darn good. I would love to see that game come back to life.

Ares84HU3865d ago

Vermin for PS1. It sounded really good at the time.

Faztkiller3865d ago

Really wish someone at sony would bring back Eight Days looked awesome. Maybe Naughty Dog or sony santa monica.

KwietStorm_BLM3865d ago

Is that like completely canceled or just put on hold?

Faztkiller3865d ago

Id like to know this also looked very interesting

TheFutureIsBlue3865d ago

Either ign or gamespot made it seem like 1313 and other star wars games were never going to see the light of day. I don't see why not though... since Battlefront is being made.

zeroskie3864d ago

It's totally canned, and mostly for licensing reasons due to the sale of Lucasarts and EA having the rights to make star wars games, but not necessarily having access to the assets of Industrial Light and Magic and Skywalker Sound.

Primotech @ GDC 09: The City of Metronome: Still Ticking, Despite a Troubled Past

"We always have plans to go forward, but the thing we've never done is to say we're actually doing it," said Tarsier CEO Mattias Nygren in an interview held at the W Hotel in San Francisco. "But as of right now, it's not in production."

[...]

Despite the setbacks, Tarsier remains optimistic about the future of its game. For them, it's not a matter of "if" Metronome will be released. It's a matter of "when."

that has to be the saddest game developer story i ever read.

i hope they get where they want to go.

Odion5518d ago

There is not one other game that I can think of that deserves to be made more then this.

Its screams Iconic, magical, dark, it screams that it has a life of its own.

since 2005. I'm very glad to hear they are still working on this title amist adversity.

Missing PS3 titles - Have you seen me?

PSU Writes:

"Remember when the PlayStation 3 was first kicking off and developers were announcing their first line up of exciting new titles for the console? Some titles that may ring a bell included Killzone 2, Motorstorm, Project I-8 (which later became Resistance: Fall of Man), and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Now the reason these titles are familiar are that they have either already released or have at least been shown or talked about over the past few months. But what about the mysterious games that were announced, even shown in some cases, but since have dropped off the radar? Are they still in production? Have they been canned or shelved? PSU.com provides a look at the games that have drifted into the forgotten realm as we speculate or offer confirmation on their current status."

This feature goes over City of Metronome and Eyedentify.

Tetsuryu5825d ago (Edited 5825d ago )

I was actually trying to dig up some new information on Metronome the last couple weeks. I was wondering about the progress of that game.

Another MIA title would be Coded Arms: Assault. There were rumors of the problematic Unreal 3 engine at fault at time. Famitsu had it listed as a cancelled title, but Konami quickly shot it down. The game wasn't officially canned by Konami. IGN has it listed for TBA 2009.

Well just to give you a heads on up titles that will probably be appearing in future additions of this feature:

- Fifth Phantom Saga
- Possession
- Dreamers
- Data-Fly
- Redwood Falls
- and then a few titles from Sony... ;)

Tetsuryu5825d ago

Wow, I haven't heard of some of those titles. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Team Tarsier (Metronome guys) is working on PSN game. From site:
"Super Secret PlayStation Network Game

We are currently working with Sony Computer Entertainment on an exciting new project for the PlayStation Network. We're looking forward to revealing more news on this title later in the year.

Sincerely,
Your favourite monkey "

Knowing how Sony works, dont be surprise if they became publisher of Metronome in future, but first Team Tarsier has to prove them selves. Thats how Sony does, first they publish few games, and if studio is good they try to acquire it.

Shadow Flare5825d ago

I forgot about Redwood Falls. Wasn't that supposed to be the most violent game ever or something? Where the people in the game were designed with proper bodies so when you get shot flesh actually rips off your bones and stuff? I remember reading articles about how that game just takes violence way, way to another level. I guess that level is where Duke Nukem Forever's hanging out

True I wish we new more about some of these titles, but games like Killzone 2, LBP, Alan Wake and Too Human have gotten killed for pushing back release dates or setting release dates so far out people get p!ssy. I'd rather wait and when they start showing more of the game it is releasing soon there after. Look at Haze. It was shown a long time ago then they had to keep pushing it back and it was getting killed. Now yes I do want to see some of these games, but wait to show me stuff when the release is within the next couple months not next couple years.

jones smokey5825d ago

it just means that sony does not want to let to much out of the bag and have almost all there exlusive games get over hyped for nothin, im sure when next u will hear about thoes titles u will be seeing the relase date., the title i am hoping that nothin happens to and still comes out with cutting edge graphics it GOD OF WAR 3.

Kain815825d ago

What happen to Eyedentify and Africa.
For this Year i hope Jeff can show us Twisted Metal for PS3

resistance1005825d ago

They released a new Afrika trailer a few months back, so i wouldn't call it MIA.

mistertwoturbo5825d ago

My question is what's up with Infamous!?!?

Tetsuryu5825d ago

Maybe we'll know more at E3. ;)

Anego Montoya FTMFW5825d ago

coming up in this months, or next months EGM.

Hype!

mistertwoturbo5825d ago

I hope it's something different. But who knows. 2007 was Lair's Year, 2008 is Haze's year, I just hope 2009 isn't going to be Infamous lol

kazuma5825d ago
