Controversy surrounded Square-Enix's recent WiiWare release Final Fantasy IV: The After Years after it was discovered that the paid-for downloadable content for the character episodes pushed the total cost of the game up to 3700 points.
But GamerZines has been looking through the DLC for new title FFCC: My Life as a Darklord, and can confirm that gamers will have to pay a whole lot more than that if they want the entire experience.
GPT: "There’s no denying the immense popularity of the Final Fantasy franchise and its impact on the role-playing genre. It’s one of the most loved game franchises for a reason. The gameplay has continued a steady evolution over the years to ensure gamers don’t get bored and has appeared on all kinds of hardware – ranging from the original Nintendo Entertainment System to more obscure machines like the WonderSwan Color handheld and modern consoles including the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii."
Yea, but there are few things as epic as that image of Tifa. Her "ballooned-up" rack in the original FF VII was, well, ballooned, lol.
the picture is from this guy:
http://incise-soul.net/ (NSFW)
there a lot more gaming chars on there, like chun-li and may from KOF.
if we r talking about popularity and not who is the most hot or sexy then Aeris is the obvious choice Aeris is the char every1 saw for the 1st time when they start FFVII in the opening cinematic, Aeris is the one with the most articles "how can u bring Aeris back to life..", the guy who write this article speak about "hot babe of the weak.." and random crap yes Tifa is hot yes Tifa is the char with the most cosplays but when we r talking about ppl who interested only for the "game" and not for cosplays/doujins/hentai and other staff this guy likes then Aeris must be No1 in this list as the most famous FF fem char.
After not turning on his Wii in 6 months, Joel takes a look at the state of WiiWare and purchases 5 titles. These titles include Castlevania Rebirth, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A Dark Lord, Bit Trip Runner, Mega Man 10, and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years .
the ones made by konami are good. Gradius/contra/castlevania rebirth are worth buying. Same for blaster master overdrive is another.
I'd really like to see konami do a rebirth of the first two original metal gear games from the nes. That would be sweet.
Hope they port Nyxquest: Kindred spirits ,.. to Move in Hd ,.. because it really didn't sell much,..
Brandon Thompson writes: "Recent news has stopping making the rounds that the much hyped Final Fantasy XIII Versus may turn into a multi-platform title. This is all fine and good and honestly nothing more than a rumor at this point. But you wouldn't know that by the reactions of the Sony Fanboys infesting the interwebs.
If you based anything on their collective response, you'd be led to believe that Square Enix is led by chimpanzees smoking cigars and flinging their own crap."
Latest FFXIII sales "disagree", and stay in school ur grammar sucks!
I love that #1 caught himself and edited the post. Then he spells your "ur". You are classic!
... I don't think I can recall ever hearing a Sony fanboy say that it is the franchise.. to be honest with 'ya
No one is saying FF is a PlayStation franchise.
But when SquareEnix announces one or two titles as exclusive to a certain system promising this and that, then they decide to make it multiplatform, which we all know will gimp the game in more than one way.
Then we have a problem.
i know. i havent seen any1 say its Sony only franchise.... wasnt FF originally on a Nintendo console? Title = FAIL
" No one is saying FF is a PlayStation franchise. "
I dont know, the echo's of how FF13 is only exclusive to PS3...and how 360 fans are crying because its a Sony exclusive...are still to be heard.
Of course all of you crawled back once MS announced it was coming to their console as well.
Now you people say FF13 is crap and FFv13 is going to be way better.
Why? because Sony fans believe FF is a Sony franchise.
Anyone who disagrees with this is just full of himself.
I own a Ps3 myself, so dont even try calling me a MS fanboy or something.
But the hypocrisy is just lovely up in the air.
if you take the japanese sales out of the totals(which you should when you compare, simply because it got a 2months headstart and the xbox is non existant there) then the sales are just about level.
and considering that it was FF first venture onto the xbox..it was a huge success.and a lot of xbox360 owners had never played it before.
"Now you people say FF13 is crap and FFv13 is going to be way better.
Why? because Sony fans believe FF is a Sony franchise." No, because most likely there won't have to cut things out for the xbox, that simple.
Kenroc,
Cry more, Seriously FF13 is not a bad production, its still well made.
At first it was praised and then slammed to the ground because it went to 360.
If it were a PS3 exclusive it would have been the same, this title funds FFv13, so you can bet on it that the same amount of time would have been put in the production. And all of you would be saying : "you xbots are just crying cause you dont have FF13"
You know its true.
Labyrinths and dungeons were cut from FFXIII to make it multiplatform.
And again, no one is saying FF is a Sony franchise. We're talking about single titles.
This guy is an idiot. The reason why PS3 fans have respect for FF is because FFVII was groundbreaking, especially when it arrived on PS1. No one stated that the series belongs to Sony. Everyone knows it started with Nintendo.
FLAMEBAIT THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN APPROVED.
I think someone needs a tissue as well. Cry moar. It's always PS3 fanboys this and that and YET no one has the goddamn nerve to call out the 360 fanboys.
something tells me this guy wants all final fantasy 13 versus on the 360, which is cool and all but, I'm afraid you guys can't have this title. If somehow you get it on your console, Fck you square where is our late exclusive.
Someone tell Game Journalists to stop writing about fanboys, which only leads to more hits on their site because fanboy discussions are always hot topics...
Oh, wait... I see what you did there.
But, if fanboys weren't fanboys, what would you write about, gofanboy.com?
Interesting how my comment as marked as immature? Immature? Please explain, because I'm sick and tired of people talking about PS3 fans doing this and that and yet 360 fans get away with nonsense. This article is flamebait and I stand by my comment.
Don Mattrick, told a packed LA Convention Centre this morning that traditional PlayStation franchises have “found a new home” on Xbox 360.
"a jubilant Mattrick closed the company’s presentation by stating series that have previously been seen as PlayStation-affiliated titles are now being thought of as 360 titles by the gaming populous."
PlayStation-affiliated titles
PlayStation-affiliated titles
PlayStation-affiliated titles
PlayStation-affiliated titles
for the few in the back
PlayStation-affiliated titles
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/3...
You guys really do own yourselves here.
You can swear up and down that FF isn't associated with the Playstation brand mainly.
Just like The Metal Gear Franchise.
The good thing about the Playstation brand, is that there are oh so many PlayStation-affiliated titles for Microsoft to buy, since they can't come up with any of their own.
You don't see Sony trying to buy into Xbox associated brands.
Someone tell to Brandon Thompson from gofanboy.com, [oh man, How Ironic] that Nobody cares What He says...
No one wants Final Fantasy anyway. It's a dead franchise with gameplay that gets worse with every new title and has the same story every time: transsexual hero saves the world.
Final Fantasy 13 sales are lagging behind earlier titles even with opening to the xbox market. It's obvious that the fans are leaving Square Enix behind. As am I. My money finds better game on all of the gaming platform. Multiplatform doesn't equal double the sales. I hope they have realised this by now.
No but more than half of them are ps3 owners and would like a BIGGER and MORE AMBITIOUS FF title that isn't limited due to some other hardware limitation.
I think we'd all like to have big games made from the ground up for our console of choice. Porting, or parallel programing always results in downgrading on one of the platforms.
Right on..
I could careless if FF goes multi. But dont cut content to cater to the other console. That pisses me off to no end.
FF7 for PS1 made FF mainstream. and then FF8, FF9, FFX, FFXI, FFXII.. all of them are strong sellers on playstation platforms. until now with FFXIII, its still is a high earner on playstation. square owes it to playstation fans.
FF1-6 were exclusive to Nintendo consoles. FF7 was also on the PC, 8 was on the PC, 11 was on the PC.13 was on the 360 and 14 will be on the PC.
So exactly how many main FF games were exclusive to Sony platforms? 9, 10 and 12.. 3 out of 13 games? Hardly a PS franchise but I guess if thats the only console you've ever played it would be easy to make that assumption
@Seferoth75
with your definition of Exclusive, the 360 has almost zero as most of there games are on PC as well. I still consider Mass Effect and Gears to be 360 exclusives personally, as I don't count PC as a console. Also 11 was on ps2 and the 360.
Final Fantasy 1 was published in Japan 1987 and three years later(1990) in the US. Interesting fact, in later iterations it was thought the series would prove to complicated for the West and weren't even released. Final Fantasy 2 sold over a 1.8 million in Japan and was later remade for the US(the original was never released outside of Japan) and only solded a fraction. Final Fantasy 3 introduced a new Job system and was starting to find its feet. Again this game never released outside of Japan. Final fantasy 4, or as its known in the US ,2, was released in 1991 and was called 2 in the US due to 2 and 3 never being released outside of Japan, and thus never really hitting the big time until the 3D release of Final Fantasy 7 on the Sony Playstation. Now, no one is saying its a Playstation brand, but more of where it became a brand yes it was ported to the PC, but merely spreading it wings due to its popularity on the Playstation brand, and not in any way comprising the quality of the final product.
The issue with PS3/FF fanboys comes when FF13, an exclusive, was abruptly compromised, compressed, cut and delayed due to a wealthy, and most envious, business man wanting a slice of the pie. I don't recall anyone actually saying Final Fantasy, a franchise owned by Square Enix, belongs to Sony. What I do recall is the annoyance, frustration and sense of being cheated. People who were of shelling out a lot of money for a console that would produce the next generation of Final Fantasy due to its superior hardware, were quite frankly shat on.
@topshelfcheese,
And your point would be what exactly? That I know what an exclusive game is? What exactly did that load of dribble have to do with what I said? Of course if it's on PC and 360 it isnt exclusive but what in Gods name does that have to do with what I posted?
Oh you thought I would argue? Stupid of you. So let me sum up. You disagree with me about only 2 FF games being exclusive to Sony and your proof of this is that some 360 fanboys call MS exclusive games 360 exclusive games?
Sad really but I think what is even more pathetic is 7 people actually thought your BS was valid. Oh and where did I say 11 wasnt on PS2? I just listed other formats just to show it wasnt exclusive. NOw try to respond to that by focusing on Sony and the points made here. Not some fanboy childish rant about MS exclusives that has nothing to do with Sony fanboys claiming FF is a PS franchise.
and to you and the other 6 fanboys that disagree, prove me wrong that only 2 games were FF exclusive, or prove how 2 games makes it a Sony franchise.
sorry it was not mainstream at least not in EU, the first FF that was released on a CONSOLE here was FF7, and i remember all the Adds from sony...and after the success of FF7 all other FF were ported to PS1
FF anthology and Final Fantasy Chronicles
Start sarcasm/
Yes because we don't need TOWNS, NON linear gameplay, incredible graphics, HUGE worlds, just ONE disc, HD sound, and the power of the CELL BE and those stupid fast leave Superman in the dust SPE's/
End sarcasm/
Even the Journalists are getting butt-hurt lately? Reporting article due to excessive fanboyism.
I wonder what would happen with all these websites and articles if n4g didn't exist.
Smokey, they'd all be out of their easy jobs and would actually have to "work" to make their money.
They would die the death the deserve.
Whats with all the horrible articles today?
lol since you said that watch they bubble you down and report what you said as trolling
"What's with all the horrible articles today?"
Maybe Skynet has finally become self-aware and this is only the beginning.
FF13 only sold well on PS3 due to the Japan Sales, I am guessing FF13 sold better on 360 in America.
Millions of copies sold on the 360, which is fine. More money for them and a better chance for versus to come to the 360. How can you avoid taking it multiplatform ? It's like saying you don't want to make money. Exclusives that aren't company exclusives like "Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony made" are becoming a thing of the past. It's a business first.
Lol
Your guess is wrong. PS3 version outsells the 360 in EVERY possible region existing in Earth.
@crapgamer
FFXIII sold better on the PS3 version:
NA/EU:
PS3 - 2 million
360 - 1.3 million
Japan
PS3 - 2 million
But I agree with you though, I also think third party devs should go multiplat as well, but it is also their choice if they want to make one of their titles exclusive or not.
you guys forgot to mention that MS had EU and US ad rights. So they couldn't even buy there way into selling more and they did try.
I'm getting old? I remember the first FF was on the NES if memory serves me correctly.
But who cares? Its been on every system this gen in some form of fashion.
Someone Tell goFanboy.com Final Fantasy was nothing before PlayStation
I hate FF BTW!!!!!!!!!!
also the so called sony fanboys are the same ff fanboys and ff fanboys are the same old SNES fanboys =======> this implies that ff is in fact their franchise.
see what i did there!!!!!!!!!!!
"Someone Tell goFanboy.com Final Fantasy was nothing before PlayStation."
It was nothing but seven games spanning two console generations. Some of them are remade for modern systems, probably to recoup the initial investment. And there's a wii only epilogue to FF6. I doubt it's because the game was successful and often played. They probably had to cut the original game short from lack of funds.
How would it have survived without playstation? God bless Sony.
The Playstation gave Final Fantasy a name outside of Japan. Before Final Fantasy VII the games were very low key outside of Japan. After Final Fantasy VII on the Playstation, every Final Fantasy game has been met with fanfare and sales. Were it not for Final Fantasy VII being released as it was, and on the Playstation, we would not care about Final Fantasy. It would be relegated to a completely niche series that very few people outside of Japan would have the chance to care about. Other titles are trying to do the same thing. Yakuza is the first that pops to mind (also on the Playstation).
"After Final Fantasy VII on the Playstation, every Final Fantasy game has been met with fanfare and sales."
And complaints the series is worsening in quality. FF7 is a high point. If you like old fantasy you also like FF3 better (FF7 had a dystopian futuristic environment).
"Were it not for Final Fantasy VII being released as it was, and on the Playstation, we would not care about Final Fantasy."
We would not care about FF? You would not care about FF. Get out of here. Like no one bought square games during the SNES era.
"It would be relegated to a completely niche series that very few people outside of Japan would have the chance to care about."
Your revisionist history is cute. I just remember being 10 and FF2/FF3/Chrono Trigger/Secret of Mana always being checked out at Blockbuster.
I just rented FF13. Returned it in 2 days and bought Dragon Age instead. This has been a pattern since FFX (though I also quit in the middle of FF8).
It's a niche series with 7 entries across two console generations. With very similar RPGs sold for the same system (Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana). For the NES/SNES generation that is huge.
FF3 is my favorite in the series(I rent each and quit because I can't take them). I like SNES Square games the best. Now I play WRPGs. By very few people you mean very few people like yourself.
Don't care for it going multiplat. Nor Metal Gear, either. Even GTA didn't bother me that much, the DLC did, however. I was personally more insulted by Tekken TBH because the whole Tekken series STARTED ONLY ON PLAYSTATION, well, minus for arcades.
basically Tekken should had been out years ago but you saw what happened to that.
Jesus how many articles a day do we need raging against "sony fanboys"? Who are the real "fanboys"? The ones writing these articles every single day perhaps? Suck it up, if you can't take debate and criticism GTFOff of N4G and game forums entirely.
"Someone Tell Sony Fanboys Final Fantasy Isn't Their Franchise"
Because you can't do a decent job of it?
And seriously, trying to ignite an already burning topic further is only going to earn you negative rep.
this writer sounds like the snot-nosed whiny kid that nobody likes.
"mooooom, jimmy won't let me play but i wanna play toooo! it's not fair!" *wipes grubby nose on sleeve*
Most gamers believe final fantasy is a playstation franchise and truth be told it is. Personally I was and still am a Sega Fanboy. When the original Final Fantasy was on the NES I was more than content with my sword of vermillion, phantasy star, shining force, and Fatal Labryinth on the Genesis.
I didn't seriously play and or beat a Final Fantasy until final fantasy 7 on the playstation....take it for what it is. 6 final fantasy games came out before I even cared enough to borrow my cousins playstation to beat a ff game.
Get your facts straight. This is the second time you've said the 360 version of FFXIII sold better on the 360. Since you are on the internet why not search out this info?
Ah muderdolls, you've had some respectable comments as of late. That one you just mentioned brought you right back down to the Fanboy clown that you are.
Way to just throw away the REAL reason for the outrage of this RUMOR (as if we don't know that we should take it as something more seeing as how Wada and Ballmer are in bed together, apparently) and make up a completely ridiculous, "failproof" reason of "OMG, Sony fanboys are just whining that they might lose another exclusive that they were "entitled to" to my paycheck signers".
Did anyone catch the Sherlock Homes 360 version contest ad on the page? I rest my case.
nah Square Enix sold out.. cant blame em Microsoft have alot of money and their willing to spend it.
The reason why they are consider making it multiplatform is because the game probably isn't that good. The japanese game industry is failing the only thing good that has come out is resident evil 5. European and and american developers are the ones making good games. I still though would like to see an rpg use the ps3s potential like god of war 3 but its up to sony themselves to make that happen.
SE has a chance to redeem themselves with Versus by rebuilding their reputation.
Sony should really look at creating a top notch JRPG that will blow any JRPG out of the water like they have done with GT in racing as well as others.
Its just gonna add these features to the game we should be so happy.
-Linearity confirmed
-Content being cut confirmed
-Need to wait 1 more year for the game to arrive confirmed
-Not utilizing the power of the ps3 so no advent childern gfx confirmed
-No jap VA confirmed
Yeah we sure should be happy its going multiplat honestly 360 fans think they should get every ps3 third party exclusive and anyone that doesnt want it to go multiplat is suddenly a fanboy.
"Yeah we sure should be happy its going multiplat honestly 360 fans think they should get every ps3 third party exclusive and anyone that doesnt want it to go multiplat is suddenly a fanboy."
You, sir/ma'am, just got a bubble from me, as that is one of the best counters (and TRUEST counters) to that whole "PS3 fanboys thinking they are entitled to everything" argument they love to come up with that I have ever had the privilege to read. You're also so correct of the majority response to stuff like this and what counter they love to use, too.
This article, though, has one thing right (and it's the ONLY thing it got right, as the rest of it is pure rubbishy flame bait garbage): the news today was NOT a confirmation (as much as we know how Wada works anymore. He's Japan's Bobby Kotick) that it WILL happen, and thus, cooler heads CAN prevail here. However, the guy needs to start caring or understand why the venom is spewed at such news and rumors.
who cares this game/franchise is dead to me... and im sure not the only one... this new installment was ajoke
Ff xiii hasnt turned out as it did, because it went multiplatform. Fanboys and developers just use multiplatform as an exscuse for mistakes. Take lost planet 2 as an example they said it ould be bigger if it were ps3 exclusive but they could still release the cut content on an extra disc or as dlc(they probably only use this as an excuse to make overpriced dlc out of cut content).
the SNES games were best for FF, FF6 really blew my mind. The intro sequence was like the greatest thing when I was a kid. Also, it's not on SNES, but Tactics for the GBA still rates as my favorite.
The fact that the non-PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII is a complete downgrade disagrees.
I thought Squaresoft jumped to Sony because if they were going to make a FF7 on a Nintendo console with 16 MB cartridges (on average ) it would become too expensive. I mean comeon if we were going to port FF 7 from PS1 to N64 lets do the math.
3 Compact Disc's = (about) 2.1 GB convert that to MB = 2100, divide by average N64 cartridge size 16 MB = god only knows how many N64 Cartridges.
For those that would like to read more.
http://www.edge-online.com/...
Someone tell these small-time website that it's been said many times before.
EVERYONE knows it was on Nintendo first.
Seriously, this war against fanyboys all of a sudden just highlights the main reason why small-time websites like these are not considered "real journalists". You take what people say online to heart. As someone in the public eye, you have to learn to keep hatred behind what is important. Everyone is going to disagree and argue about something you said, even if it's "The World Is Green" (wtf? Ur stupid, the world has more blue than green!).
Give it a rest. What's more annoying than fanboys? The "journalists" who project their behavior...
Lots of articles raging against the "evil Sony fanboys" lately around here. Makes me wonder who the true fanboys are. Making a stupid comment on this site's talkback is one thing, being childish enough to go and blog about the "evil fanboys" is on an entirely different level.
That's kind of sad.
Ever since FFXII was published by Sony, it spearheaded the franchise putting Squaresoft to the map. If anything, Squaresoft owes a lot to Sony for it's success not to mention the CD which gave them more space to work on the the N64. I hope they do the same for FFvXIII.
-End statement
The new age gamers aren't seeing it for what it is.
Artist usually don't show full potential under presure. Or doing a multitask because....
You are working on 2 different things. shock. 1 holds more, 1 can't who suffers = gamers/people who pay for incomplete work who later on have to pay $3 or more for hidden costumes and levels. Just because you support a company that does this doesn't mean that we should.
is it was believed to be exclusive.thats why people r getting pissed off.and like all exclusives it shows wut that console can do wit the game.so this fanboi and his unnecesary rant is pretty pointless.ironic a fanboi tryin to call out other fanbois.f##kin pathectic
we know that final fantasy starts on nintendos console back in 80's from ff1 to ff6 mi right?.. ok
now back in 1997 squaresoft brings Final Fantasy 7 on Playstation which helps final fantasy games more popular, right?.. thanks to Playstation and FF7 makes Final Fantasy franchise popular.. Without playstation Final Fantasy frachise would Suck afterall
The only Final Fantasy games I've played on Sony consoles is about ten minutes of FFX.
Other than that it's a PC (7,8) or Nintendo DS (4,6) franchise for me.
oh my god not another Sony fan boy rant lol its really funny how xbox fanboys call sony fan boys the worst yet who is writing articles about who i mean really imo there becoming worse by writing all these damn articles about "Sony fan boys did this Sony fan boys did that" blah blah blah blah blah!!! cry me a river I'm sure where all getting sick of this! i don't ever hear any one say that the franchise was Sony only, but of course one fan boy says one thing and some 40 year old hairy troll living in his mom's basement writes an article about it.ahh gotta love the Interwebs.
PlayStation put Final Fantasy on the map, Sonys use of CD saw to that.
BTW Nintendo idiots should stop calling Metal Gear Franchise thers. When it first started life on the MSX.
This isn't about some percieved franchise ownership, it's about getting a game that was promised and I don't mean "only on PS3", I mean the flagship Final Fantasy title we're yet to get this gen. Fact is, multiplatform games ARE downgraded games, exclusives will always deliver the final push.
Man the author needs to learn to write a little more clearly. The middle paragraph was a jumbled read due to poor sentence structure.
FF's best years have been on PlayStation, and apart from FFVI and perhaps IV all the best titles as well. Not to mention that the fanbase is on PlayStation, and Squarenix started working on PlayStation (after becoming Squarenix)
But of course it's mainly Nintendo and PlayStation, even though PlayStation might have taken the best bite. 360 has gotten the worst part of the pie.
You wouldn't call Metal Gear a nintendo franchise even though it started there.
(Seriously, three games plus Super Smash isn't enough)
That the rabid sony fanboys have earned themselves these days. I'm not going to say it's undeserved. Maybe this IS slightly too Forward.
I'd imagine we can expect to see more of this as the games journalists seem to have finally gotten as sick of the Sony fanboy reaction to EVERYTHING as I have. Dude... it's just games. It's not like sony is paying you to explode about every little thing...plus your devoting yourself to a company who probably cares more about tvs and cameras then games.
Yeah there are some fantastic games but... The fanboys have soured the system for everyone who cares about them. I'll probably buy it after sony makes it's next console. It and all of it's games will be crazy cheap at that point anyhow.
I here A LOT of Sony fanboys complain because FF is on 360 now.
If Sony got FF from Nintendo why shouldn't 360 get it from Sony? 360 is just doing the same thing as Sony did...It's a fact Sony fanboys can't handle the truth and are butt hurt over it...Why else would they complain about it?
Wow SE loves the DLC...
wow now i know if i get this game to watch out on DLC.
argh .. my life as a king was cheap on the aspect that the game felt complete ONLY with the dlcs ..
Dlcs should NOT work like that ... i guess i'll will NOT pay for the dlcs and pirate it ... ( i hate paying for a DEMO or a limited product)
It better be a damn good game for that price
