Well, after the first Gears game was great on PC AND had extra content that it was a no brainer we'd see it on PC when 2 came round but that hasn't happened, has it?

I also got a shedload of disagrees for just suggesting that MS might be taking the "well I'll play it on PC" attitude of some gamers more seriously than most of us do. Looks more of a possiblity now though, doesn't it?

While the PC version mught yet appear with so much work already done for it I don't think it will-No Fable2, no gears2 and now no AW for PC. Seems to me MS want to really push the 360 with exclusives that do not go to PC like Sony does. Even if it's timed and does appear n the PC a year later just who, who wanted to play it, won't either have done so by then or be interested in something else anyway? Noone, hardly, imo-cept those willing to pirate the game.

It's very tight on those gamers kept waiting for years for AW to have it pulled out from under them last minute though-and the fact we've lost much of the open world makes me wonder if they decided a while back to optimise AW fr 360 at the expense of the PC game.

I'm not shocked as I think we'll see more of this in the future. MS obviously make more from 360 sales and can recompense with Remedy accordingly as they know many copies would get pirated on PC in any case(even more than onm 360 it seems). Makes sense for mS and 360 but it's well hard on PC gamers isn't it, esp the honest majority.

The architecture of the PC and X360 are so similar that it would not make any difference if they focus on both or just one... That's one of the advantages the X360 over the other consoles, very easy to port games from PC to X360 or the other way around. And if you read the article it clearly states that this decision was made by the Publisher and not the Developers.

Microsoft has been smart, really smart... The first line of games and the last ones on the XBOX 1 they got on the PC. Fable 1, Halo 2, Gears of War 1. Why? To get PC gamers to taste the great games of the XBOX. And then bam, the sequels PC gamers want to play also but get exclusive on the 360, Halo 3, Halo Wars, Gears of War 2, Fable 2...

PC gamers want to play these games, as they know the franchise already and start buying 360's because they need to play them.

Microsoft actually has a pretty smart strategy, getting in a targetgroup that before only played on the PC slowly pulled in.

So PS3 fandroids that thought they'd play some 360 games on their PC rig (often not powerfull enough but still they're crying about it), what you're gonna do now? Say the game is sh!t suddenly I guess. Thats all you can do.

Alan Wake indeed looks like a great game. I think Remedy wants to be bought by MS and probably the game already has taken so long they don't want to put in extra effort for the PC version.

Seems like Spring 2010 becomes a games packed time... Alan Wake, God of War III, Heavy Rain, Bioshock 2... Maybe GT5. Next year looks great for gamers that own multiple systems.

Well I have a PS3 and I'm extremely bummed by this since this is exactly the type of game I like. I mean, sure there are enough games coming out for both PS3 and Xbox, but I would sure loved to play this game as well.
Shame it's not coming out for the PC so I guess you can add me as well to the list of PS3 people planned to get it. Fair is fair, Alan Wake looks like a fun and deep game, it's the story appealing to me the most, just like with Indigo Prophecy (well just the first part with that game, the sci-fi stuff became extremely meh and didn't fit in AT ALL x.x)

I kinda agree. I know this will get a lot of disagrees, but the game just looked to play like Resident Evil 4 crossed with Alone in the Dark....

That may not be a bad thing at all, but it just seems a little disappointing compared to the original developer talk. Seems like they've scaled back the game quite a lot compared to their original ambition.

I'm just hoping the story is strong enough to carry the game.

I feel extremely confident that this game will be whhat the developers imagined to be. A lot of people weren't very pleased with the e3 demo because it focused on gameplay, but how exciting would a demo be if they showed a guy walking around collecting clues and talking to people? Naughty Dog did the same thing with their Uncharted 2 demo, yet they share no flack for what they did. The original was great because it wasnt focused on combat.

I came away with a good feel from the AW demo. The graphics, the light gameplay, and the atmosphere.

I liked the idea of an open world supernatural type of game originally described, and that seemed to mesh with the snippets of story they had made available. But the new linear style didn't really make me think 'Wow, Day 1 purchase'.

The problem with the E3 demo was that the gameplay reminded me of the early 'Find arbitrary Useful Item to use at Point A, then backtrack to find another arbitrary item to use', like the original Res Evil. Also, the much lauded graphics now look OK, rather than hugely atmospheric and cutting edge.

Up until E3 I was pretty excited for this game - since then it has waned a lot.

Whenever games like Heavy Rain and Alan Wake come up its mostly been about the graphics and less about the gameplay. There have been countless articles for these games but when they actually hit the stores . . . .they aren't going to sell. These kinds of games appeal to a very small demographic of the gaming population which is why Heavy Rain and Alan Wake are better examples of what each system can do and not amazing games we are going to be playing over and over. If you are one in that demographic then I'm sure you'll love either one but all the games I listed will probably outsell Heavy Rain and Alan Wake.

The only reason Alan Wake was being made on PC was to push Vista, at the time Vista was new and they were only developing it for Vista, in an effort to get folks to upgrade to it. They claimed only Vista had the right stuff to run the game properly.

Now that Vista is dead, they have little motivation to publish it for PC, the money to be made is far less, and it would likely slow development. Just get it on 360, its 2 hundred bucks for crying out loud, since most PS3 fans think XBL is a waste of money, all you need is an arcade to play exclusives. If you change your mind my buddy found a 20gig 360 hard drive online for like 15 bucks, just add it later if you want to.

i've been planning on picking this up for my 360 for ages, however (my PC sucks, and i don't feel like investing the hundreds of dollars into bringing it up to snuff when i have a perfectly good 360 that will run the game just fine).

this really sucks for PC owners that don't have a 360.

in either case, this can only mean good things for the game, as it frees the developer up to really focus on the 360 version and make it something special.

even though the game has shifted from a sandbox to a true survival horror game, i think that Remedy should be commended for knowing their limits and budgets and making a hard choice like this. in the end, i think the final product will be better for it.

besides, a 360 is $200. if PC gamers can afford the monster gaming rig needed to run Alan Wake at it's best, i'm pretty sure they can drop the $200 for the cheapest 360 sku, or $300 for the unit with the hard drive.

the PC industry, despite it's posturing, isn't really doing so hot this generation. when in generations past it was no question as to the might of PC gaming, the current gen of consoles (360/PS3) are really giving it a run for it's money in terms of capabilities and exclusive titles.

FPS games, Sims, and Strategy games can only do so much, and WoW is only making money for Activision, not the hundreds of PC developers struggling to stay in business.

it's only a matter of time before more high profile PC games like Alan Wake drop the PC altogether for the more lucrative console business.

Is that really a good thing though. Especially considering DVD space limitations. DVD may be fine with most games but seems to be the reason for the redesign of two high profile titles to be released, Alan Wake and Rage. Coincidence that both were to be open world type games? I don't think so. I'm sure next gen all consoles will have plenty of harddrive space to accommodate any type of game but not this gen with the 360 and Wii. Also every gen since PS1 starts off with power close to a PC but within 2 years the PC pulls far ahead. Look at Crysis as that game really pushed the PC hardware to it's limits. Now imagine if more Devs followed suite. Right now a high end PC is much more powerful than any console but Devs are making games to the lowest common denominator for the cash. With Alan Wake it would have been nice to have seen their vision come to fruition. Their excuse was basically a decision for better story telling but does that mean we will never see an open world game outside the GTA mold that has a good story. Besides didn't GTA have a good story and was open world. Would be nice to play an open world game with a Sci-fi or horror setting. Hopefully someone this gen has the guts to release an open world game either exclusive to the PC and maybe port later for the PS3 if little to no compromises are possible.

It does not make much sense that launching in both would cripple in anyway the 360 version. This escenario only benefits MS and not any gamer. Are you really comparing PS2 vs. GC to PS3 vs. 360? FOr one thing, the Gamecube had better graphics (barely), but GC discs couldn't hold as much as PS2 DVDs (why some games were on two discs, like RE4).

Nobody on PSN has 40 accounts. But that's the only explanation for idiots like Jason 360 and Murderpp to have more than 1 bubble, let alone 6. =/

What Murderdolls doesn't understand is that all those PS3 fans wanted it for the PC because the PC version would've looked 100,000x's better then the 360 version but now the games not coming out on the PC because MS don't want the PS3 fans to bash the game saying it's not exclusive to the 360 any more.

So when Sony says there are over 20 million PSN users, I'd say they are pretty accurate considering you use your PSN account for updates at the bare minimum.

Whats the big deal with how many PSN users there are? Does it affect how you personally live your everyday life? If so, I think you have more to address than arguing how many Live vs. PSN users there are.

PCs are far better at creative/work apps than games. i dont watch movies on a pc for the same reasons i dont play games on one. most of them revolve around a big tv screen, a leather sofa and freinds..ah.. maybe im just old school eh?

What so great about this game anyway? Everyone talks about like its the second coming of Christ. I saw the live E3 demo on G4 and I was completely underwhelmed. Point flashlight, shoot some enemies, run around a little, do a quick time event, rinse and repeat. The graphics are great, but that's the only good thing I can say about it. Splinter Cell on the other hand, looked amazing. I'm not even a fan of the series and I was completely blown away. If anything 360 owners should be holding that game over PS3 and PC owners heads, not this boring garbage.

I dont believe for one second that this wont be released on PC. This is probally a cute way of trying to get 360/pc owners to buy the 360 version. My guess it will release on PC 6 months after 360.

Coming out of Devs mouths are shameful tactics. One minute it's exclusive and the nest it's not. Lie after lie and people still believe them. If it comes out on PC even after all this downplaying then I will not get it. Just real lame tactics to try and get people to buy a 360. This is a system seller and MS knows it, I wish they didn't have to pull such low blows to the PC community just to make sure Sony isn't gaining too much ground with the PS3.

Even though I'm very computer-savvy, I never got into PC gaming. I know a lot of games are better technically on PC but I never cared that much, as being a console gamer for so long.

MS is really making a statement with this one. No Halo 3 on PC, no Fable 2 or Gears 2 on PC. And now, at least for the time being, no Alan Wake on PC. Hopefully this speeds up development so Alan can finally hit the shelves since this is going to be an amazing game.

this WILL definately keep 360 appealing upon release. I was actually hoping MS would do this more with certain releases... it's a smarter way to push your console. I mean MS's windows based PCs are EVERYWHERE, they get enough love. When you've gone through alot of the damage with the losses between regular xbox and 360's RROD, I feel a move like this is nessicary!

This will definatley draw interest from several PS3/PC gamers that I know were looking forward to this title on PC. I know this move, has helped sell at least 5 360's to some of my friends!

If heavy rain is the counter for it Sony is way off. PC gamers are used to waiting for console games to convert over so thats no problem. Remedy have done a stellar job on this one and regardless of fanboys it looks to be one hell of an impressive game. Am getting very tired of PS fanboys and also Xbox fanboys talking so much bull$#!! on what looks better. Gameplay wise there has been nothing, and I mean nothing that has gone above last generation. Storylines have become very important but gameplay hasn't changed at all!

Thats somewhat strategic and not only a reason of exclusivity. About 80 % of a PC Game is pirated and thats bad for the sales, so many Gamers who might get it for 360 wound have pirated it before on PC. If the PC Version comes later, this is not the Case. (sure the Xbox is pirated too, but not as much as the PC)

Capcom has done this with success before, for the same reason. (Street Fighter IV)

Thats also the Reason why the PC is not the best Gaming Plattform anymore. Save Sales are only guaranteed with Online Games, wich cannot be pirated or Games that must be registrated online to get full access (Sims 3, Diablo III, StarCraft II, C&C4) There is a reason why StarCraft II will not have a LAN Support.

Athough i do admit that pc gaming is not as it used to be (mainly due to piracy), but saying that it is dying is just ignorant. There are still many people online playing COD, crysis, l4d, css, wc3, BF etc.......

And there are still ignorant people who thinks you need a $$MONSTER$$$$ rig to run most games on PC. That is totally ignorant BS, Even on medium setting games looks better on PC then their console counter parts. You could argue that the couch and plasma is a more comfortable setting for you but that is just opinions. i can say my leather chair and my 30 inch 2500x1900 res monitor is a much more comfortable setting for me. But in the end who is the one that is getting the fullest of what the game has to offer? Who is the real hardcore gamer?

I don't own a ps3 and obviously not a 360 either, but if m$ continues to screw their customers like this, it just give me another reason to hate them further.

I dont think that PC Gaming is dying, but the Publisher will make sure that they have other ways for distribute their Games on the PC. Steam is something like this. Its not totally safe from piracy, but if you want to play online its better that you have the original.

Games like World of Goo or Trine are very great but sadly less bought actually. Because they dont need the only funktionality.
