Is Oblivion one of your favorite games of all time? Have you always dreamed you could have a similar, 3-D, first-person RPG experience, only portable? Well, your wish has been answered. Recently, Aspyr Media announced the game Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain for Nintendo DS.
Currently being developed by Big Blue Bubble and estimated for a holiday release, Fighting Fantasy is based on the interactive book series of the same name by by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson. In this game, players will be able to live out the first book, exploring an exciting 3-D world that promises superior graphics and animations, perhaps some of the finest on the DS.
"Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is our most ambitious Nintendo DS project to date," said Damir Slogar CEO of Big Blue Bubble Inc. "Driven by the vision of bringing next gen console gaming to the handheld platform, as well as our passion for role playing games, we spent the past few years working on a game that will showcase how this FPSRPG on Nintendo DS can and should look."
Warlock of Firetop Mountain is a PC version of my favourite fantasy book, with dungeons, and combat that still keeps the feel and style of the original book.
HPP: When comes to video games, the term “role-playing game” has become synonymous with anything that involves a fantasy setting, experience, and leveling-up. It’s far removed from the tabletop systems that spawned the term. Sure, there were text adventures and MUDS/MOOS (look it up, kids) but outside of throwing dice around a table, video games haven’t managed to capture that feeling. The Warlock of Firetop Mountain manages to capture that feeling without having to find those pesky friend things people talk about.
BOUGHT!
Now Steve, please, please, please make Autoduel the game somehow someway.
I'm tired of all these combat vehicle games that THINK they are Autoduel but fail miserably.
Thank you.
Dan Miller writes: "A first-person shooter version of The Warlock of Firetop Mountain was released on the Nintendo DS several years ago, but this new iteration promises to a far more faithful adaption. Your character progresses through the various dungeons and passageways, pausing every so often when a decision needs to be made. Combat takes place through the custom GridBluff fighting system with both you and your opponents making your moves at the same time – although it’s worth noting an alternative dice rolling combat system is available for purists."
I remember playing this as a boardgame. It was pretty amazing... the graphics here also look pretty darn good! I hope it's as immersive as oblivion... here's hoping for a miracle
edit: I just looked at their history of games...ugh, looks like we'll need to look elsewhere for a good game
Well, this does look like Big Blue Bubble's first serious effort, but it has potential. And, of course, if it is based on a series, that could mean that even if the first game isn't amazing, they can learn from their mistakes for sequels. Of course, that isn't ideal, but it would be great to see them succeed with this, since I've heard a lot of pessimism about this title already, and it was just announced.
Hope this game will succeed on DS so it'll get a PS3 or 360 version to show off the graphics!
