It's Alright Folks - There is a Zelda Timeline

Rumor's have been circulating the internet over a youtube video with a response from Nintendo of America stating there is indeed no timeline in the Zelda franchise. ZeldaInformer takes a deeper look and proves just how untrue the words from "Nintendo of America" really are.

Mario doesnt have a time line to.

christian hour5421d ago

Exactly! Every time I've played a zelda game, it's been pretty much the same formula over and over again. Of course it's still as addictive as hell. Every time I've played a zelda game, I've gone in with the attitude that it's a different link, a different hyrule etc, unless stated otherwise (like in majoras mask).

I'd like to see a return to the windwaker style for the next big zelda title. It caused a lot of dispute but I thought it was one of the most beautiful looking zelda games in a long long time. And it still looks good!

Of course since there is no defined timeline, that also makes it acceptably okay to assume there is one, and go with it. If it enriches the story and the world for you, go ahead, I just like to get in there and play the crap out of it. No time for peicing the puzzle together. I'll let the experts do that for me to read :P

Nintendo openly admitted that there is no timeline in Zelda. And to anyone with half a brain, this was OBVIOUS from the very beginning.

And still these Nintendoinformer fools claim differently. Basically saying that Nintendo is lying. I mean lol. How ridiculous is that?

Nintendo created the darn thing, Im pretty sure they know it better than Nintendoinformer. In fact, Im betting on it!

And indeed, why must there be a timeline in the first place? Mario games dont have timelines. Every Mario game is a new adventure in itself unless states specifically like (possibly) Marios Galaxy 2.

Nintendoinformer just made themselves the laughing stock of the Internet. Joke of the month award goes to these people.

well they dont even have any reference. i could say that zelda may have a timeline or reference to other zelda i agree with the fact that nintendo of america doesnt know that much on zelda and that the website they give is not even update but they need more reference

"Nintendo created the darn thing, Im pretty sure they know it better than Nintendoinformer. In fact, Im betting on it!
"

Funny how you pm me and tell me how stupid i am, while this very same statement could be used for the fact Miyamoto himself said there is a timeline by saying OOT was the first back in 1998.

Like i said in the PM it CONTRADICTS to what the Miyamoto said.
So if there is someone out there claiming there is a timeline, who says he is wrong? This Nintendo of America, NOT miyamoto himself.

Untill it comes from his mouth its official.
Now remember before you go to insult me again, realise it CONTRADICTS what Miyamoto said about OOT and in fact what was said about TP.
And if you can't understand this you are the "Delusional" one.

Like Windwaker states at the beginning of the game, "Legend has it..." states that there was once a hero who sealed Ganon away. So every time I play a Zelda game, I am thinking it's a different tale of long ago. Like if you heard a story who you told to someone and you added something in, and they told someone and added something in, etc. until you get to where there's a different variation of stories (Windwaker versus Twilight Princess).

It would be cool if there was a timeline, but I do not think it exists. Just look at all the stuff people look into - Star Wars, Star Trek, LOST, Heroes, all speculation; people want stuff to exists so they make it up themselves causing them sooner or later to believe it.

That's just my two cents.

While I don't agree with how this one particular writer at ZeldaInformer went about defunking the timeline thing - What I also don't like is because some youtube user claims to have gotten a letter back from Nintendo, doesn't even show the actual letter, nor the email, or whatever the heck it was, and simply does some computer typing in a movie... that suddenly this is taken as actual Fact.

The guy provides absolutely NO proof that he even contacted NOA, or that they actually responded. Why do I bring this up? I personally have sent letters to them linking to movies, articles, etc in reference to the Zelda timeline and never got no such response. In fact, I doubt they would even take the time to respond to anyone who asked them. They are most likely asked hundreds of times a year.

Furthermore, Eji and Miyamoto have both confirmed the existence of a timeline. Not just back in 1998, but repeatedly over and over again. "tww happens after the events of OOT, TP happens after OOT but before TWW", etc.

TWW itself references the Hero of Time by name. Only one game in the series is Link referred to as the Hero of Time - so it's pretty clear the games connect. MM connects. AOL and LOZ connect. All the rest? Up for interpretation. Never-the-less the guys who actually head the games have repeated for over 10 years now there is a timeline, and a document that keeps track of it for the developers.

So - because some youtube user sweeps in and says NOA says differently - we should believe him?

Assume that NoA really did say that. What would they know? HAVE YOU SEEN THE NINTENDO ZELDA SITE. It's in shambles. Still has the PH counter featured. The information (some of it) on the website is 100% inaacurate and not innaccurate because some fan site said so - inaccurate because the GAMES say so.

http://www.zeldauniverse.ne...

A pretty big list there of the failures of zelda.com. That is right folks: IT FAILS HARD. That's the site NoA gives the fans. The information is completely inaccurate, and at times completely made up and has no bearing on the game. Meanwhile, Miyamoto, Eji, and Nintendo of Japan (You know, where Nintendo is actually stationed) has said time and time again there is indeed a timeline.

So - in short - people overreacted to something that not only has no stake to actually being credible - even if it did NoA is clearly not a source for reliable Zelda information. As the article says, and I say, check out hte mistakes the NoA site makes for zelda. Then come back to me and tell me that they simply "know zelda better then us".

ChickeyCantor5420d ago

SinnedNogara5420d ago

Yeah, except for that scene in Super Mario Sunshine.

He just repeatedly says nintendo is wrong, and fans can say there is one even if there isn't. It is like a 5 year old crying.

"Nintendo can say whatever they want, but they cannot stop us."

"For Nintendo to directly say to their fans that a timeline isn't possible, is insulting."

"I don't care what they have to say on the timeline because there is a timeline."

"Regardless of what the officials say, there can still be a timeline."

"Say whatever you want 'officials' of Nintendo of America, because there can be a timeline."

"Even if they denied one, there would still be one."

Over and over and over... A sentence stretched into an article. At least show some evidence for god's sake.

Foxgod5421d ago (Edited 5421d ago )

no there isnt.
They are all different links, just like BOF got a gazillion different ryu's.
The zelda's are not in even in the same dimension, its constantly a different hyrule.

If you want a timeline, go and play suikoden (the main series).

General Jewels5421d ago

Halo rules everything even zelda.

Mo0eY5421d ago

Can someone tell me how this guy hasn't been banished to the open zone?

AhemZasan5420d ago

Apparently Master Chief is Samus Aran's lesbian lover/dance partner.

Baka-akaB5421d ago

Dear lord , it's not even as if Zelda usually shines by it's plot . Most time , or each time , it's just an oniric adventure

Zelda Replay: Majora's Mask

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Is Ocarina of Time as legendary as I remembered it? For the most part, yes. In spite of a handful of missteps — a few obtuse puzzles, some tedious backtracking, and a clunky stealth sequence — I don't believe the last 23 years have been unkind to it. Ocarina remains a brilliant example of the medium, a landmark game that shaped the future of its own franchise and 3D gaming in general. After more than two decades it retains its inventive dungeon design, challenging puzzles, dynamic combat, wistful storyline, unforgettable music, and empowering open-air freedom. I feel confident calling it one of the greatest games of the fifth generation, even if I'm no longer prepared to list it among the five best games ever made."

Pure unadulterated fun. They don't make them like this anymore...especially not the triple A industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic17d ago

Back when video rental was a thing, I rented out Majoria's Mask, I never finished it though. I did buy the 3DS version before the eshop shutdown, so maybe one day I'll finally play through the whole thing, it's amazing how well these games hold up though. I briefly played Ocarina of Time for a while and it was really fun.

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno99d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.
