Wii Sports Resort set to launch across SA later this month

The launch of Wii Sports Resort was held in Johannesburg yesterday at Core Gaming's swanky new offices in Sandton. It felt like a day at the beach with the room decorated with umbrellas, hula-hoops, beach balls and Core Gaming staff decked out in Hawaiian style leis and flip-flops.

Eager journalists got the chance to try out Wii Sports Resort on one on five Wii consoles set up at the venue. We also got some hands-on time with the much anticipated New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Wii Fit Plus, due to be released sometime towards the end of the year. The games were flown out from Europe for the day and it's great to see South Africa really being put on the map with these kind of events showcasing upcoming games.

Goodbye New Mario, I Won't Miss You

Am I missing something? It looks exactly the same, just higher resolution… Is this sarcasm?

specialguest324d ago

Yes, you're not observant if you think it looks exactly the same. It immediately appeared different to me from the start. Mario's 3D model will always be the same, so not much difference there. However, the animation they've given the Super Mario Wonder makes it look more like a CGI Mario animation where as the New Mario Bros game looks more like typical video game animation movements

@specialguest Yeah those animations are insane.

FinalFantasyFanatic324d ago

You really didn't notice the difference? It's really obvious, I was surprised when I first saw the trailer.

"Am I missing something?"

Your glasses maybe?

This Mario game looks great, getting a switch for this and Mario RPG. CANT WAIT, TITS JACKED.

Profchaos324d ago

Yeah I liked how much more emotion could be conveyed through the new style at first glance I didn't see much difference but then rewatching the trailer I'm seeing more and more animations that remind me of the Mario artwork from the manual of smb3

I hated the new super Mario bros Style. This new one seems a lot more expressive and less generic. I hope it's a good game

I prefer the 2d Mario's. Me and my girl have played them all together and mario galaxy , Mario odyssey. The 2nd player option is extremely eh

Because we all miss accidentally throwing our Wiimotes at the TV, so let's throw some Joy-Cons.

VR is the same way, wrist straps for a reason.

I loved the golf from Wii Sports Resort.

I was always confused by Nintendo’s decision to kill the franchise. “Super” stayed with Mario titles even after the Super Nintendo. They can still use the Wii name. Hell it’s been so long that releasing a new one, or even an HD remaster, will tap into that nostalgia market.

Super Mario launched on the NES not the Super NES.

septemberindecember852d ago

Super was never because of the Super Nintendo. Super Mario Bros launched on the NES. The Super is because it's an indirect sequel to Mario Bros.

They can just call it Nintendo Sports or something, but using the Wii name would be a bit confusing.

Bigman4k853d ago

Yeah i agree but i don't think Nintendo will be bringing wii sports to the Nintendo Switch samething goes for diddykong racing

Super Mario U is a great one that reminds me alot of Super Mario World on snes. When ran in 4k@60fps on pc, it's hard not to love it.
