OXM UK writes: "EA is considering adding button-mapped controls to Fight Night Round 4 via DLC.
As it stands, the only way to play Fight Night Round 4 is using the analogue sticks to swing punches. However, producer Brian Hayes says "there is no option for face button punching in the final version, but we are investigating providing the option via DLC."
If he means free DLC, that would be fine. If you ended up having to pay for the option to use button-mapped controls, it's exactly the sort of thing that will whip the internet into a frenzy and unleash their hatred EA's way. To say it wouldn't be the smartest of moves would be an understatement..."
Fight Night Round 4 swings its final punch, as online servers will be taken down next year according to a press release from EA.
Guess we won't see another Fight Night until next gen at the soonest. Did any notable boxing games come out this gen at all?
Fight night round 4 is still the best boxing game at the moment.
I still pop it in my old Xbox from time to time and nothing beats the feeling of a close fight in the late rounds.
cut the UFC Servers too , some of those grapples look awkward when people would walk in and see 2 guys straddling each other, i tried soo hard to make it not look weird
Round 4 was the best the franchise had to offer. You could find success playing to each fighters strengths and anytime somone wanted to spam a particular cheese i could always find a realistic boxing strategy to counter it. Champion started off pretty good but the game was very exploitable and became a cheese fest. The auto block severely hurt the game as well. If they ever make a new game i hope they look at how they achieved competitve balance in the gameplay of Round 4.

Improved 4K visuals, a new generation of boxers and improved multiplayer lobbies…man, that would be great. Until that day comes, Fight Night is going to remain outside of the periphery of the fighting game genre, as the ref slowly counts one of the finest franchises out of the ring.
Fight Night Champion was an abomination - but man, I'd love to see a new gen Fight Night game.
Using the sticks encourages some degree of skill, by adding face buttons FNR4's online will just descend into mindless button bashing.
FNR4 should be treated as a boxing sim, not just another souless mash-em-up!
OMG!!!plz add this option ..!!!!!!!that analog crap sucks foreal ..and hurry up ..
I guess ea hasn't learned from the lair developers... when will these game developers learn that u must not force game play controls on the players give us the option.. of havin an option.. nuff said
Each to their own i but personally i haven't had any troubles with the analogue sticks.
I have had to fight different fighters using different strategies, some fighting behind the jab, some counter punching others just all out brawls, and the sticks have always seemed responsive and precise to me. Started a Legacy career on Championship difficulty and my record currently stands at 14(11)-1-0. (Only loss was a split decision and i came back and KO'd the guy 3 fights later! :))
Those who can't play Fight Night tend to just throw wildly regardless of the setup, either way though there's nothing more frustrating than someone just windmilling away without any sense of style or strategy!
I can understand why some people would want it but personally don't see the need.
man just keep the sticks but just change it back to FNR3. forget button mapping
