Easternmind's Michael Jackson videogame retrospective - Virtually Immortalized?

Paying homage to the icon of pop music and culture, Easternmind presents a quick retrospective of Michael Jackson's games, namely the ones resulting from the bond between SEGA and the artist which started innocently with the 1990 Genesis hit Moonwalker; then assuming different contours on the following decades.

Long Live to the King... R.I.P. MJ.

Lifendz5437d ago

The arcade version was nuts and the Genesis version was the must have game of that holiday season.

I wasn't ready for MJs death. I'm a great fan and I this retrospective a lot... more than IGNs or 1UPs: they just did their job without any passion. I read some passion here.

The author's right about another thing: it doesn't matter if you're a fan or not. MJ's death is a tragic event for everyone. Good work easternmind!

lilgringo5437d ago

No it's not. I honestly don't care at all, and I can safely say that my life will be just the same as it was yesterday. Do you know how many people die every day? Why is his death so special?
He contributed alot to the music industry, but like I said, don't care.

Lifendz5437d ago (Edited 5437d ago )

It's amazing how you can't make a broad statement these days because someone like you will jump in and say it doesn't apply to you.

It's tragic in regards that a cultural icon has passed away. For many, this just reminds them of their own mortality and the loss of their childhood or younger days when that person's music or movie was on. In sum, it's just that some of us realize we're growing older and our heroes are passing on.

I was not a John Lennon fan. I never got into the Beatles. But when he died I got why people were so upset. What he gave to us in terms of entertainment was indescribable. Can't you try to do the same?

pixelsword5437d ago

Since I do not know, I can not say that to whom you were referring to has either; but some times even a flippant comment presents obvious and staggering evidence.

mastiffchild5437d ago

Never been a fan of anything he's recorded(post Jackson5 anyway)but to a lot of us with children the very fact that he was prepared to settle out of court over abuse charges forever taints him as a paedophile and not someone deserving of all the canonisation he's getting.

The BS about his skin"whitening disease"(that affects people in a very different way to the one he maintained, and his family debunked, he had)was very distasteful to many black mates of mine as well.

No doubt both the fame and his family relationships took thuir toll on his mind-and any talent he once had-but whoever advised him to settle should have realised that in the case of child abuse anything other than total transparency and acquittal(and even then, on the later charges, the trial was unsatisfactory-as bad as OJ's first, imo)would leave him viewed as guilty. If not why not go to court? Why buy silence?

The death is too early and that's sad but the lagacy Jacko leaves is NOT one of total respect-lots of us revile him as well as worship him. This is NOTHING like Lennon's passing at all.

Lifendz5437d ago (Edited 5437d ago )

I couldn't disagree more. Michael was the biggest star in the world for a good decade. Maybe more. Yes he has more controversy surrounding his life than Lennon did but I'm talking in terms of their celebrity. Both were very big stars and that's why people are mourning them.

I'm done arguing this though. And I didn't hit disagree on you just in case you should happen to get some disagrees.

Yesterday was very weird and surreal. I was born in 1975 and I grew up in the 80's which was Jackson's highpoint with Thriller. He was everywhere. Part of Americana... Its sad to see someone with so much talent die so young... especially with all the stuff surrounding him. Love him or hate him he was an icon around the world. And he was also a big-time gamer. Moonwalker rocked on the Genesis.

I felt like a little bit of the 80's died when Ed McMahon, Farrah and Jackson died in a 2 day span. Just very weird... RIP MJ...

I hope we all take a minute to tell those closest to us how much we care about them. Tomorrow isn't promised today.

The man was flawed as a human being but, to quote a book I once read, "let he without sin cast the first stone."

Evercade Sunsoft Collection 2 review - Games Asylum

Games Asylum: "Every console generation has seen a fad or two, be it gratuitously violent beat’em ups, dancing ‘n singing party games, casual titles with motion controls, or predominantly beige first-person shooters. In the early ‘90s, the biggest craze was mascot platformers, fuelled by the astonishing popularity of Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog. This seven-game strong cartridge not only gives a taster of that era, but also takes us beyond that to sample Sunsoft’s 32-bit debut."

A Matter Of Trust: What The Game Industry Should Do To Win Gamers Back

Skewed and Reviewed have written an Opinion Piece covering issues in the gaming industry, how current issues were issues years ago, and what can be done to help restore consumer trust.

anast5d ago

Nothing. It's up to the gamers to stop consuming content from companies that they don't agree with.

Garethvk4d ago

How do you know if you agree with it or not unless you play it? Which without conventions forces gamers to rely on trailers. Perhaps Demos should be made more frequently. But companies need to do better as well.

anast4d ago

Wait until release. Watch Gameplay. Exercise patience.

Garethvk4d ago

But is that not what they have now? Tons of gameplay or are you talking about watching actual gamers play it versus the trailers and streams? The big issue is that some companies pay streamers and influencers and they create content but for me; that is hardly a fair, unbiased, and factual look at a game.

1nsomniac5d ago

Get rid of the suits in the industry and job done!!

Garethvk4d ago

They usually are attached to the money sadly. It would be nice to have gamers in charge but you have so much money invested that business people are needed. Hence the issue; you need people who know business but are also gamers who know have an eye to the community. It sounds simple in theory that if you give gamers quality games that they want to play; money will be made. But that is not always so.
