Splinter Cell Conviction on PS3? Never, says Ubi

VG247: If you were holding out for Splinter Cell Conviction to eventually make its way to PS3, you're out of luck. Ubi just said on its forums that it really is an MS exclusive thanks to a "link of heart" between the franchise and the platform.

First off, this looks to be a very very good game. It's sad though that I'm going to have to miss it, being that I'm not buying a 360 and I don't have a PC powerful enough to run it. Have always enjoyed the Splinter Cell franchise and it's a shame I won't get to play this one.

That being said, when it comes to timed exclusives, don't all developers say this same thing? I mean look back at Bioshock when 2k themselves came out and said it's never coming to PS3 and well....we know how that worked out. I even find it ironic that the guy here used FF as his example (multiplat now). I'll give him the benefit of the doubt at this point in time, but I still don't think this is 100% confirmation it will never make it's way to PS3.

Of course even if it did, probably be like a year from now before it did make it over. In the meantime xbox fans will be enjoying it later this year. Guess I'll just have to be jealous for the time being cause this looks to be a great game that I'm sure I would thoroughly enjoy playing. Then again I already do have too much to play as it is with what's already announced on PS3 side of things. Enjoy the great game though Xboxers.

Those that own a PS3 and really want to play this game are hardcore enough to own a 360 with it and will play it on that and those that do not own a 360 know that the series has primarily been an Xbox series so more than likely do not care. And Double Agent on the PS3 was horrible... REMEMBER?!

Keep it exclusive, then there are fewer possibilities for a lack in development and a greater chance it will be good. Look at MGS4, it was great and it was due in part to Kojima working on a single version and not wasting resources on multiplatform.

First off, that's like asking "Why would you buy Infamous when you already have GTA4?" Last I checked I don't just buy one game from each genre then never buy anything from it again. Don't we as gamers just want to play the ones that look like they'll be fun? Yes I'd love to play this. I like the franchise. I guess I'd consider myself more hardcore definitely than casual (whatever hardcore means). However, I don't own a xbox360 (and never will). But as a PS3 only owner, contrary to what you say, I do know that, sure Splinter Cell has more roots on xbox, but as far as I can remember (and correct me if I'm wrong) haven't all the Splinter Cell games eventually made it to Playstation? So I've definitely got to enjoy the franchise before. So is it so wrong for me to want to enjoy it again? Conviction looks like it will end up being a great game. Btw, I never played Double Agent on PS3 so I don't know, but I did play it on PS2 and I rather enjoyed it and wouldn't call it a horrible game by any means.

The Splinter Cell games have always proved to look and play better than the Metal Gear Solid series, and Splinter Cell Conviction looks to up the ante once again. Splinter Cell Conviction is my top "must-play" game this year. No Octo-cam suit will come close to what SC:C offers to us 360/PC gamers this year.

I mean, every Splinter Cell game has come out on a Playstation platform, so I really fail to understand this "link of heart" business, and I don't understand why the series is never coming back to the PS3, despite the last iteration being on PS3? It just simply doesn't make sense to me.

Edit: To clarify, I've been confused about this since the game was announced a long time ago. It never made sense to me why they announced it as an exclusive. It makes less and less sense to me as time goes by and they keep re-affirming that it's not coming to PS3. Splinter Cell 5 Conviction is never going to be on the ps3, I'm sorry to break it to you.

Eventually the sequel to Double Agent will come out on ps3, but not further dumbed down ports. Splinter Cell 5 and main Splinter Cell games could not be done on the ps3, because of the multi-thread processes which have to run all the game's systematic computer a.i. and puzzles.

Splinter Cell 5 is using the full power of the 360's tri-core, it's simply not going to your system. Another Splinter Cell game basically the return of Double Agent is what will hit the ps3.

You will need to buy a 360, if you want to experience games like Splinter Cell 5, Alan Wake, or Left 4 Dead 2.

I really do think that ths is exclusive. I remember that they were saying the reason for the exclusitivity was that the pc and X360 architecture are similar and you have natural 3-4 cores which result in better ai performance where the ps3 has a bunch of spe's but still only a SINGLE CORE cpu and the ai doesn't work well with that type of processor. Playstation owners, too, have been a part of this franchise the whole time. All SC games have come over to us as well. Now this one won't. That is laughable at best. Seriously? The reason it won't be on PS3 is because the Cell can't handle it? lol Thanks for the laugh after a rough day at work. We all know the PS3 processor is hands down the best processor between the two. And would wipe the floor with the Xenon. Just like 360's GPU is much better than PS3's. So I SERIOUSLY doubt the cell couldn't handle the AI and stuff (*ahem*KZ2). The thing is it would just have to be rewritten different being as how the Cell and the Xenon are completely different architectures.

Same goes for you. There is no way the Xenon could handle this and the Cell couldn't. Just not feasible. The cell is plenty capable of handling outstanding physics, lighting, AI, etc. That interview/article you mention, Ubi never said the PS3 couldn't handle it. All they said, if I'm not mistaken, was that it would have to be programmed differently. Once again, because the architectures are completely different. That's what it boils down to, not that the PS3 can't do it. Cause processor wise, I don't think there's anything the Xenon can do that the Cell can't.

That being said, like I mentioned before, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt (as much as it does seem a bit shady to suddenly just yank the franchise out from under our feet after PS fans have been following it too), and go under the assumption this is exclusive and I won't be playing it (no I'm not buying an xbox, get over it). Which is a shame, cause Ubi would have definitely got my $60 with this one.

Splinter Cell 5 Conviction really is being maxed out on the 360 hardware and the series is exclusive.

Everything in the game was utilized to max out the 360's GFLOPs floating point A.I., to give this game the best stealth A.I. you can possibly get so that each enemy soldier reacts realistically.

It couldn't be done on the ps3 even if Ubi Soft wanted to do it.

The only way that Splinter Cell will arrive on ps3, is in a spinoff game being known as the sequel to Double Agent.

The main Splinter Cell games besides one of the first ports, have always been considered Xbox exclusive.

With Splinter Cell 5 taking in the footsteps of Chaos Theory, this one will remain exclusive. No updated port for you.

By and by, Ubisoft is just making a decision based on what they're most comfortable with. Splinter Cell could very likely outsell Metal Gear Solid 4, and the company wants to stick as close to the multiplayer as possible by maxing out the 360's advanced A.I. ....

In this particular instance, the playstation 3's triad processors really can't handle the advanced gameplay in Splinter Cell 5.
It's simply too little too late, as it would split up the game into pieces which no one would want....

Look out Europe, here comes Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell rebirthed.

Give it time, it will come. What i remember, Double Agent came later too...No one thought that was coming to PS3. Double Agent was TERRIBLE though and sold like crap, i think it made reports for being taken of shelves early (this only being the PS3 version) so that could be why Ubisoft is saying "well MS markets us" lol. I doubt putting Tekken on the PS3 alone would sell enough to justify porting/adjusting it (after the arcade version), whereas Splinter Cell has the 360 market, where previous instalments have sold very well, as well as PCs.

Sony fans may slate the trend for 360 games showing up on the PC, but it may actually contribute towards console exclusivity. MS seems more than happy for developers to port games over to the PC, the same can't be said of Sony. None of this bothers me as I own both consoles, but to the petty and narrow minded, you know...

If that were really the case, then splinter cell should have always stayed a MS (3rd party) exclusive. I have to agree with some of the previous comments. These execs are just using the stupid console wars to their advantage. Splinter cell will eventually come to the ps3. It might not be conviction, but splinter cell will return to the ps3. Yeah, Double Agent even appeared on PS2. Also, a number of 3rd party 360 'exclusives' turned out to be merely time exclusives. PS3 got BOTH Ninja Gaidens, Oblivion and Bioshock- off the top of my head.
