Sessler's Soapbox: To The Left 4 Dead 2 Petitioners...

Adam Sessler shares a few thoughts for the Left 4 Dead 2 boycotters.

Forrest Gump5443d ago

Won't be buying L4D2 until TF2 is updated on consoles.

This essentially means I'll never play L4D2.

Lifendz5442d ago (Edited 5442d ago )

He must think talking fast equals being knowledgeable.

But anyway, if you're upset that L4D2 is dropping so soon after L4D then you can make Valve feel your anger with your dollars. Don't buy the game. It's that simple.

-MD-5442d ago

Well Valve has already said 360 will get the update eventually so yeah looks like you're still out of luck considering you worship your PS3.

solar5442d ago

blame MS, not Valve. no wonder your nickname is Forrest Gump because you have to be mentally retarded to not know why TF2 hasnt been updated on the 360.

jessehaysfl5442d ago

I like sessler, however he's wrong.

The game is just a small iteration. Valve changed the lighting, skins on the players, Textures on the buildings and called it a new game.

If you want to pay for that (which I will by the way) then fine buy it.

If not, and you want to protest what you feel is an injustice then please do so.

The protesters that are taking all the flack are really making it a better expierence for us all, if you don't want a product and you think it is being unfair to you (i.e. the L4d1 community) then why should they be shut up? There voices should be angry and loud if they want a change.

These guys make gaming a little better for all of us by keeping a large developer honest.

Kaneda5442d ago

Adam said it was business decision and people don't like bad run business! Sure Valve is a great developer in the past. That doesn't mean they will always be great. A company can change really quickly. Look at GM and Chrysler... they changed! and now file bankruptcy!

All-35442d ago

I've seen people whine about games/sequels not coming soon enough.

Now some are whining that a game/sequel is coming too soon... it's kinda sad, and kinda funny.

paul03885442d ago

Unfortunately, honesty is rare in this industry, it's the name of the game...

BTW, I also agree with you 100%. That said, maybe they have something heavy lined up for L4D2. I really hope it surprises me like the original. What I don't hope for is it getting the "Call of Duty syndrome". When it comes out, I'm buying it for PC too. The support for TF2 by Valve is highly commendable, and based on that alone, I'll buy this game. But if L4D3 comes out a year later, I'll join the boycott...

paul03885442d ago

I'll still buy it, but that doesn't make me think it's not too soon for a sequel to the first.

A real sequel Valve should be working on is Half Life 2: Episode 3. That can't come out fast enough.

Sessler you are a douche.
I have to agree with everything you said and every point you made.
Still a douche.

CaptainHowdy5442d ago

i agree wholeheartedly...Sessler is godly sized douche

paul03885442d ago

F*ck Sessler. His whiny opinions mean nothing to me and sure as hell won't influence whether I'll buy a game or not...

outlawlife5443d ago (Edited 5443d ago )

i agree with him but at the same times I have serious concerns about the quality of L4D2, valve is a company that takes years to do games

to turn out a sequel in less than a year is a bit worrisome
the first game was extremely short, I did not feel the first game warranted the $60 I paid for it

I'm not saying it wasn't good but just like many other titles this gen it wasn't worth the price tag, and now with the quick turn around I am worried that this game will be much more of the same

I played L4D for maybe a week and it got real tired really fast so we will see with 2 but I really don't expect a great game

I don't think valve owes me anything, but I do think I need to be satisfied with a product to buy the sequel, with that said I won't be buying L4D2

too many better games coming out at that time anyway, L4D2 is going to be lost in the shuffle, they should have just waited until spring and they wouldnt have this whole problem and they would probably sell more simply due to timing

valve owes me nothing, but I owe it to myself to be a smart consumer...no day 1 buy for sure

Rofflecopter5442d ago

I agree about the first game. It felt like a great game, and it was definitely a quality release, but the length and repetitive nature made it feel closer to a $40 title in the end.

Proxy5442d ago

I pre-purchased the game on steam for 40$.

I expected support for L4D to be much better. Lessen learned, don't purchase L4D2 until the map packs and mods and additional content (which must be free BTW) is already released. Game will probably be a worthy 10$ purchase by this time.

paul03885442d ago

The mention of a dynamic level director. Instead of just routing the baddies a bunch of different ways, It'll change the level around with each play through, or that's how I understood it anyway.

That being said, the main reason I stopped playing L4D is because of the repetition. It seemed so fresh at first, but became tired to me faster than most games. Especially concerning the online multiplayer. It boggles my mind why they have 4 campaign scenarios but only 2 of which initially available for multiplayer. And frankly, I can't stand to play "No Mercy" any longer. It's like a poppy rap song that's played over, and over, and over, and over on the radio. Catchy at first listen, but played-out very fast (metaphorically speaking).

ironwolf7775442d ago

The video game business doesn't owe consumers anything ... exept their entire existence.
I love valve and really have no problem with L4D2.
But I can't stand folks who think buyers should just bend over and be happy without exerting some influence on the industry.

SaberEdge5442d ago

Well it goes both ways. Gamers wouldn't have anything to play if it weren't for developers.

They don't owe you anything and you don't owe them anything. They create a product and you have the choice to buy it or not.

evrfighter5442d ago

Agreed and the boycotters are just lettin Valve know they won't be buying it. simple as that.

I'm part of the boycott yet I don't feel like they owe me anything. But at the same time because they hyped up their promise on more content and then broke that promise. I'm not buying their game because I don't owe them anything. l4d2 isn't the only game coming out at the end of the year.

Just means that alot of these boycotters will be picking up MW2 instead.

SaberEdge5442d ago (Edited 5442d ago )

Yeah, but why the boycott then? If there are really so many of you that won't be buying the game Valve will surely notice the drop in sales and will modify their approach in the future accordingly.

No, this about trying to get your way, which does mean that you think they owe you something.

As for your claim that they broke their promise of providing more content, I don't know where you have been but I have got free DLC from Valve. And they are promising more. Given the fact that I am already satisfied with the content I have received for the money I paid any further content is just a nice bonus.

evrfighter5442d ago (Edited 5442d ago )

did you miss the VIDEO interviews where they promised new campaigns, items, infected, weapons on MORE than one occasion?

As far the boycott goes. Say L4D2 was released, the pc gamers were pissed but did not boycott merely blogged and ranted on the steam forums. It's just another typical day on the interwebz in most peoples eyes right? Yet, The devs will probably wonder why it's not doing so well. In the end they'll probably attribute it to the economy or just a miss as a sequel.

But in this case because there IS a boycott with over 32k participants. When the game surely sells less than desired numbers. Valve will know without a shadow of doubt. Why, it sold the way it did. I have no personal agenda against Valve I love Valve games. But like we both stated. I don't owe them anything and they don't owe me anything. I don't want this to be free for pc gamers. This is surely worth a few bucks. $20ish imo.

I'm just a number in a group. My voice or angry rant on the steam forums means squat to Valve. But when one number is tacked on to one number and that number is tacked on top of yet another number and so on and so forth. Sh*t adds up right? Who's gonna break first?

I know I won't buy this game and the real pc gamers in that 32k group, I can guarantee feel the same way. Call us selfish, call us spoiled, or even crybabies. It doesn't change the fact that pc gamers will fight to the bitter end even if it doesn't work, while u guys continue to spread your cheeks with a smile on your face.

Most of you have accepted that this is the way online gaming is. Newsflash....We've been online gaming before Halo or before the dreamcast was even a thought. We set the standard for you console gamers. New maps, and weapons have always just been part of a simple old patch. How in the hell did you guys let it get to the point where you guys enjoy paying for a couple maps???

Don't forget. It was a pc gamer that started the boycott against EA to save you idiots from having to pay EA for one stupid weapon in BF: Bad Company.

yeah... I hate people that whine a lot too. That's why I don't make videos of me whining. Maybe you should try that too Mr Sessler.

While there’s likely already a list behind closed doors, one can still speculate and offer logical suggestions for titles new and old that should find their way into the PlayStation and Switch libraries.

Single A games and live service games. Those make sense

S2Killinit57d ago

None of it makes sense. But its happening.

Ps5conehead56d ago

That’s up to Microsoft they want return on there investment. From buying up those publishers. That’s what there in business for. And they made a mistake putting day one exclusive on game pass. So now Microsoft wants to profit any way they can.its called buisness . Just like Sony putting games on pc a year are two after ps5 launch.
So if they can make money off PlayStation and Nintendo. They will do that. And I bet soon real soon they will release some aaa exclusives .and I bet one day it will be same day release

TheEroica56d ago

Sony gamers begging for Xbox games.... Who would've thunk it?

BISHOP-BRASIL56d ago

Yeah, because random site off the internet represents all Sony gamers, they have the letter of attorney and all...

S2Killinit56d ago

Lol what a spin. You dizzy?

AsunaYuukiTheFlash56d ago (Edited 56d ago )

We don’t care about shovelwares. Get that junk out of PS5

StormSnooper56d ago

More like MS begging to put their games on PlayStation.

TheEroica55d ago

Keep begging Sony gamers!

Friendlygamer57d ago

Some of these seem to be exclusive for lack of enthusiasm of the publisher rather than because of deals. A lot of cool indies skip ps for some reason like katana zero, el paso, elsewhere and gunbrela

S2Killinit57d ago

Even more indies skip xbox. We know that right?

Friendlygamer57d ago

Quality over quantity, Microsoft got some really interesting and curated niche games on their machines, maybe in part because of gamepass

S2Killinit56d ago

Quality and MS are not things you bring up in same sentence.

shinoff218356d ago (Edited 56d ago )

Alot of indies skip xbox to. It goes round and round. Personally I think your off base on that but no need to have the argument.

Friendlygamer56d ago

Between katana zero, valheim, Battletech, el passo... I don't feel off base. maybe ps got a million of light novel games that will never release on Xbox but like I've said, I'm talking about niche games highlights, the 10%.

Heck, it's probably thanks to Microsoft that the s.t.a.l.k.e.r games came to console ps included, meanwhile Sony backwards compatibility continues to be extremely anemic.

And I'm sure most ps5 users are happy to ignore these games and just play wathever new 3rd person action game is trending but it's cool that Microsoft gives some love to smaller audiences and software preservation

shinoff218356d ago

Again your off base just to be snide. All it's showing though is your ignorance.

One light novels wtf is that even. Ps has plenty of pretty damn good indies.

Speaking of indies and ms being responsible. You know F.I.S.T. of course you do alot of you guys just support gamepass. Well here's a history of Sony being responsible for helping indies. Look up the China project from Sony.

Lastly lol your ignorance showing again. Sony has plenty of games. Personally third person is better then first anyway but that's besides the point. Sony gets so many games that xbox doesn't get because yall don't support the games. Jrpgs being a great example. I personally am not into every Sony first party game. Alot of us aren't. On the other side you don't get to eat often so you gobble up everything. Me personally God of War not my cup, etc. For me I'm into jrpgs and ms just can't touch Sony on those. Again because the Xbox base doesn't support it. Devs dont wanna waste their time or money. Hit me up when falcom develops a game over there.

Speaking of third person narrative games. Aren't yall drooling over hellblade 2. The first one was Sony exclusive at one point. Another not my cup game. Showing we don't have to fall in line and agree we love everything Sony puts out. The facts are they sell though unlike elsewhere(not nintendo)

StormSnooper56d ago

You are same person as GamerRN, yes?

Abnor_Mal57d ago

They really think PlayStation fans would want to play Redfall? Pfft.

Personally nothing on that list would be any game I’d want to play.

TwoPicklesGood57d ago

I’d absolutely love Hellblade 2, Palworld, and Quantum Break on ps5 as I’m sure tons of others would too. There’s nothing wrong with wanting games from another console and its sad that people try to act like they aren’t interested in them.

shinoff218356d ago

While indont agree with the games. I agree with the point. Your not wrong.

DarXyde57d ago

Sunset Overdrive makes very good sense. Palworld might.

Don't know about the others. Hellblade II does make sense given the original launched on PS4 first. Quantum Break was a massive letdown for me. I absolutely hated the whole TV show thing and I don't think anyone should have to relive that on modern hardware.

Valve Made Left 4 Dead 2 Because The First Game Was A Broken Mess

Left 4 Dead lead Chet Faliszek describes the original Left 4 Dead game as "such a broken thing that nobody wanted to touch it."

Number1TailzFan169d ago

And then couldn't be arsed to make a third game.

If they can add a lot more stuff to a 2nd game in just 1 year why didn't they make a third game a few years later with tons of stuff extra? Because that shows they could've.

I know Source 2 was kind of broken and was a reason they cancelled L4D3 but it seems wasteful to just toss it away.

Don't know what Valve were thinking.. it's like nobody wanted to fix the issues to get going. They certainly aren't the Valve of 2004 that released fun games with pretty cutting edge graphics.

cthulhucultist167d ago

Valve is allergic to number 3 it seems. It would be easier for them to release a Left 4 Dead 2.5 enhanced version instead of releasing a game with "3" slapped on its title.

rakentaja166d ago

They stopped making games a long time ago. Steam brings in so much money that it's really not worth the effort. Nowadays, people only look for faults in games, and spend more time whining on Twitter/X than playing the game anyway. Valve says a big fat no-no.

anast167d ago

Value is the Blockbuster of video games. They have no need to invest in deving a game, when they can make handfuls of cash renting them.

-Foxtrot168d ago

What are they talking about? Seemed pretty alright to me at launch it just wasn't supported the way Valve promised us

They should have just worked on a revamp / massive update to the game but they didn't they jumped straight to a sequel with brand new characters despite having some sort, if small, story about where the original survivors were heading.

I didn't care for the direction they took the sequel, the original games tone and atmosphere was missing in the second game and is still unmatched. Daytime levels, more whackiness, melee weapons where you could attack a Tank with a frying pan...just wasn't the same to be honest and the new survivors just didn't hold up the originals.

Here's my speculation. I think they did a sequel because they didn't want to update a game co-developed by Turtle Rock, they wanted the franchise to be known as a Valve game only and knew if they updated the first one Turtle Rocks name would still linger on it.

shaenoide167d ago

I want broken games like L4D all day long...

GhostScholar167d ago

Well the first game was by far the best
