Ghostbusters: PS3 is 3/4 resolution of Xbox 360 version

Something appears to have gone a little wrong with Terminal Reality's PlayStation 3 Ghostbusters engine. At first touted as their lead platform, the native rendering resolution of the game is a little shocking.

Alarms were raised after a comparison published on website Lens of Truth. They pointed out a number of differences that put the Xbox 360 version on top, including a lower texture quality and a mysteriously blurred image. After the above comments from the developers themselves, you wouldn't expect them to shoot themselves in the foot like this. You can find the Lens of Truth comparison after this link.

What the Lens of Truth were confused about was the resolution of the game. Was the PlayStation 3 version really running in high-definition at 720p? The answer is 'No.'

I really feel that the devs did a really crappy job with the PS3 version. I mean even when you can't pull out an equal looking version when you use the PS3 as a lead platform just speaks tons of the talent the devs have.. I don't care about the game since I am not a big ghostbuster fan, but I really feel the devs should have done a better job at it.

Especially looking through all the recent multi plats looking nearly identical (RE5, SF4,UFC.. Even better for PS3 in case of Prototype and RFG), this ones a bummer.It mainly ends up on how talented the dev is to handle the PS3. I mean look at all the multiplats by EA,Capcom.... All look so identical, one has to strain his eyes to look out for differences.

1) it shows that some devs work well with the 360 over the PS3 and...

The PS3 is clearly capable of more than this. My guess is they put equal resources on the 360 and PS3. Realized how powerful the PS3 is, then screwed up when it was complicated to finish the product. Is this the studios first PS3 game?

However, it would be interesting to see a comparison of personnel resources needed on both 360 and PS3 to achieve the same result.

In this Dr. Dobbs Journal article, for simple Breadth First Search algorithm (this is taught in lower division introductory Datastructure courses and is extremely simple to program) it took 20 times (1200 lines) as much code as required on the x86 (only 60 lines). The performance? About 22x faster. The issue, the difficulty in splitting and synchronizing (a mechanism to organize access to data, not the traditional meaning) the work. Now this doesn't necessarily apply to everything, but certainly gives you an idea.

I've been playing for three days now on the Ps3 and althought the graphics aren't the best this gen the game is really fun and the story is awesome! If you are a Ghostbusters fan then buy it or rent it but make sure you play it! Lots of great set pieces and cool gameplay. Definitely not just a money grab. buy the version on the console you own or if you own both buy the version your friends are on (it has online) and have fun. Geeshh people these days are soooo anal.

I've only played the ps3 version, it looks last gen, but it's alot of fun. Tha story is good, it has a fun online and the acting is preatty cool. I'm going to rent this. Although if a demo comes out for both psn and live. I'll have to test out both demo. If the differences is staggering and xbox version really looks better (base on personal experience with the demo) then i'll rent the xbox version. I have been playing the Ps3 version for 3 days and although I agree some of the Graphics look a little last gen, there are times when the setpieces are superb. Besides i doubt that the 360 version will look next gen.

Fact is there are alot of mulitplats that look last gen, hell COD4 had the worst textures ever and that didn't stop people scooping the game up in droves and play the crap out of it.

It's already proven it's power and ability to allow more action on screen than what the 360 is capable of, now it's time for the devs to step up and learn the PS3's architecture. I mean KZ2 only took as long as it did because they made themselves their own game engine while developing the game. It's hard to understand why others won't take the time to learn cause once they do it'll be cake. God, they act like it's an unsolvable puzzle.

I see Sonys first party developers pushing out awesome looking games in 2 years or less which is around the time frame for a game to be made.

Sure multiplat games may take longer considering they have to develop for two systems instead of concentrating on the one, but if they don't want to take the time to learn how to use the power given to them then don't make the freaking game in the first place. I'd rather wait instead of being force fed this pile of crap.

No it hasn't, Jaces. The PS3 has only shown that in ideal circumstances it can have games that look just as good as the best 360 games.

The fact that Guerrilla and Naughty Dog have the talent and the manpower to push through and create fantastic looking games is great for the PS3, but the reality is that most developers have neither the time or the money to invest in overcoming the inefficiencies of the PS3's design.

Hell, not even all 1st party Sony developers are able to make outstanding looking games. I can think of more than a few PS3 exclusives that are fairly average looking.

Some may not have the time or manpower to learn the PS3 but from what I've seen in a lot of multiplats, this has to be the worst. I just don't understand how bad it turned out.

A lot of the others were mere jaggies or slightly darker here and there, hardly noticeable in comparisons.

My point overall though is that the PS3 has the power but that doesn't mean the developers have the skill to tap that power which blows. It's a hiccup, yea, but it's a learning curve and hopefully devs will get more comfortable with the PS3 in time seeing how it will be around for a bit.

The bit about the some PS3 exclusives looking average...I've yet to come across an average looking exclusive. All have been amazing, some more than others but not average. Although that's your opinion so this is mine.

Really, the only one I could say looks the same is Devil May Cry 4. I have played the Assassin's Creed PS3 version and I can tell you that the framerate and screen tearing is crap. 360 definitely had the advantage there -- though I am thinking by the time Ubi gets around to releasing the sequel, that things will be a bit more on-par.

As far as COD4, DMC4, and others, let me ask you this. Are you playing your games or just staring at them? Seriously, you wouldn't notice most differences in some multiplat games unless your pausing gameplay directly somehow, zooming 200-300% and just comparing pixels. It just gets stupid after awhile.

Obviously, this isn't the case with Ghostbusters. Looks like a 2007 game comparison. It just looks plain awful on PS3. The devs really did trap themselves with this one. I think we deserve an answer.

2. What I've seen only Prototype and Red Faction looks ever so slightly better on PS3. Others look exactly the same BUT

CoD4 looks better on the 360. I've played both versions quite a bit and I must say that the 360 version of CoD4 sports better mapping and textures. It is evident during the first mission (Wet work) when looking at the (wet) ground while on board the ship.

But either way, none of the multplat's are unplayable and both have some great games. Games like Uncharted and Killzone 2 show that the PS3 hardware is not the issue and it's a very capable system.

-Killzone 2 is a nice looking game, but it in no way sh*ts on every 360 game. Gears of War 2, for example, looks just as good. PS3 fans will deny it to the ends of the earth, but I have done a comparison back and forth between the two games and found that Gears 2 does some things better and Killzone 2 does some things better, but all in all I would say that are both on the same level.-

It's true. Sony has historically made quirky hardware that's more difficult to program for. The PS2 had a very funky architecture, and it took years for developers to figure out how to best program for it. (Compare today's PS2 games with the launch ones... wow.)

The difference is, when the PS2 was king, it was King. It had massive market share and developers had strong motivation to put out the effort to maximize the PS2 version as far as possible. The PS3 doesn't have that kind of market share... but is still harder to develop for. That means developers are less motivated to spend the effort to get the most out of the PS3 version.

The 360 benefits by being architecturally closer to the PC, so a "PC-ish" overall design will work okay on the 360. Not so much on the PS3, it requires its own design to get the best performance. When that's done (console exclusives like Uncharted, KZ2, etc.) the results are impressive as hell... but not all developers have the skill and/or resources to do that.

Another myth spread by ps3 fans. Dead Space in fact looked about the same on both machines, but the 360 version had a much more solid frame rate than the ps3 version.

Here is what Eurogamer said in their comparison:

How can anyone say that multiplats are a true representation of a particular system's power? Obviously when an exclusive game that is using all assets available to the developers is released, can we really see what has any sort of advantage.

All I know is, I watched the 720p Uncharted 2 E3 trailer on my PS3 last night that I downloaded from the PSN, and I can safely say that it is hands down the best looking game I've ever seen this entire generation. And yes, that includes Killzone 2.

Its not the multiplat that makes you purchase the console (well it shouldn't anyways). Its the exclusive. People seem to forget that the PS3 is still early in its life cycle. Parallel processing is still NEW to developers, this is evident in the multiplats.

Even when the PS3 is the lead platform, the developers will still have to make it equal for the other platform. This is why you dont see 3rd parties pushing any of the consoles. Burnout paradise and Mirrors edge are the games off the top of my head that were lead on the PS3. EA kept them equal for both consoles.

Then there is some developers that do botch jobs. Take Prototype for an example: The graphics engine is real easy to run on both consoles, however the X360 is missing a few things in the engine. This is not the hardware's fault, its the developers. Same with Ghostbusters. We know that the X360 and PS3 can do better textures then either of those games can produce.

Again my standards are low for multiplat games. It's the exclusives that should have the higher standard for any video game enthusiast, no matter what console. Dont expect anything less.

You did read the article, didn't you? You do realize we're talking about slightly blurred textures on one version compared to the other? I have yet to play this game as it only came out today (making your point about those poor PS3 owners who forked out their money kinda moot) but this game is still recommended. In fact, so far on metacritic the slightly blurred textures have only accounted for 1 percent difference in the metacritic score. Clearly the bulk of professional reviewers don't see this difference in textures to be a problem hindering them from recommending this title on the PS3.

I'm downplaying because ultimately a few blurry textures DON'T MATTER! Christ, if graphics were everything they wouldn't sell a single Wii game vs the PS3/360.

IGN gave the PS3 graphics a 8.5.
IGN AU, who are notoriously hard to please also gave the graphics of the PS3 version an 8.5. "This isn't the prettiest game ever (although it does run at 1080p which is nice), but the powerful physics engine is crucial to the action feeling authentic."
In fact, of the myriad of positive reviews up, the biggest criticism of the games seems to be that it's easy and sometimes the graphics range from "good" to "average for what we can expect to see from next gen games".

As I mentioned before - if you want to buy it on the 360, buy it on the 360. You make it sound like the damn things unplayable on the PS3. Personally, I'm not going to be playing the PS3 and 360 version side by side anyway. I'll get it on my PS3 because I don't trust my 360 hardware and to me that's far more of a concern then "does this particular game have a slightly blurred texture vs the other version".

Judging by the heat surrounding the two stories on GB it looks like hundreds of 360 and ps3 users are flabberghasted at this poor ps3 GB showing, despite the darkrider damage control effort.

I am personally very disappointed that this game, which was led on ps3, can only manage to run at 540p on ps3, while running beautifully at 720p, with better AA, better textures and better clarity on the 360.

Sony's consistently pushing with quality, it's devs really have to push the boundaries of the system, that's why we have so many quality titles. MS however does not have to prove itself, it has franchises that simply sell.

As for my Nvidia comment, I was closely following Nvidia and ATI news for their DirectX10 cards way back between 2005-2007. Nvidia was constantly stating, during 2006, that unified architecture was too early, that their DX10 would be hybrid, all the while stating their "suspicion" at ATI's unified Xenos.. It was a TOTAL departure from the old ways. Now, anybody should know that they could not have changed their core design in a year. This wasn't a progress in design. It probably was their corpororate game, they wouldn't accept that unified was the way to go, because they have to dump their 7xxx architecture in our beloved PS3.

For once I wish the Dev's would tell people the truth the ps3 does not have 7x Cpu's and the 360 does not have 3x cpus that is a load off garbage.

The truth is xbox360 has 3 Power pc general purpose cores, and each core has 2 threads so the cpu on the 360 has the power of 6 full cpu's but only 3 real cores

Ps3 cell has one main cpu cores a power pc core with 7X spe, Spe do not equal cpu cores they are based on dsp processors so they are more like threads, 2 spe are used for blue ray and xbe and extra security. so only 5 spe "5 threads" available. The core is
so over driven by the 16kb cach cap that Dev's have to set up streaming, i.e which thread gets the core first but it is fast but the code or software will have to be costume made that is what is happen here, Sony 1 st party games will all ways look better then any 3rd party game cos they know how to stream the threads so the main core does not get bogged down.

The 360 on the other hand can really out perform the cell its just Dev's have only every used the unreal engine for 360 games but it is outdated now and Microsoft know this, Do not give up on 360 so easy it has a lot off cpu power that has not been used yet, but the disk is on its last legs that is what Ea are saying .

Dude, I really wished people would stop comparing exclusives. The truth is Sony has invested heavily in custom engines for many of it's first and second party titles which have resulted in long delays, budget overruns and the company not recouping or making a profit when games perform below expectations at retail; that's a fact. I'm really beginning to question Sony's focus when more and more games get delayed each year. Meanwhile, Halo 3 uses an updated Halo 2 engine; the Call of Duty games use a modified Quake 3 engine, Gears of War, Mass Effect and Bioshock use the Unreal engine, The Orange Box and Left 4 Dead uses the Source Engine, look at Fallout 3; and what do you have? Great games that display amazing longevity on the XBox 360 console. It's time gamers got their priorities right!

It is only fair to compare exclusives, as they are the main differentiators between the platforms.

The bottom line is that Sony's first party exclusives bring the best graphics to the table, and that can never be a bad thing (no matter how much you downplay it with "gameplay" arguments).

You ask what we have? MGS4 and Killzone 2. We also had the multiplatforms that you mentioned (with the exception of halo, gears, mass effect, L4D). In the near future, we have Uncharted 2, rachet and clank, and GOW3. Further down the track, we will have GT5, as well as The Last Guardian. Every one of these upcoming games are unrivaled in graphics. I can't help but think that Sony is delivering in spades, and genuine PS3 gamers are liking what they're seeing, without doubt.

It doesn't matter how great the graphics are if the games don't perform at retail, offer gamers longevity or have the personality to differentiate themselves from multiplatform releases. I think you miss the point of my comment. Sony has chosen graphics as the main focus of its first and second party studios and have invested heavily not only financially but in sharing the technology among its studios to achieve this. Microsoft focus has been its XBox Live community. Left 4 Dead sold more than Killzone 2 has lifetime, in 5 weeks on the XBox 360 and the game looks terribly dated but offers a wealth of community gameplay and longevity. Halo 3 and COD4 look incredibly mediocre by today's standards and both outsold Killzone 2 in the month of May almost 2 years after their release. Call of Duty World at War has sold twice as much as Killzone 2 on the PS3. So again, as a publisher, what's your priority? Having the best looking game on a console or having a game that's resonates at retail and with your console's community? You have to question if Sony has the right focus. Would Uncharted 2 be any less a great game if it only looked as good as Resident Evil 5? Would Killzone 2 have greater success if it looked only as good as Call of Duty 4 and released in Spring 2007 and not Spring 2009?

Sony delivers with its games (in both graphics and gameplay), and gamers are happy for that. They have succeeded in that respect. As for retail performance, I would argue that they have succeeded as well. The PS3 audience is diverse (i'm sure we can agree on that), and Sony itself does not anticipate any one title to appeal to the entire PS3 population - neither should we. Even so, MGS4, Killzone, and even GT5P are multi-million sellers, and are therefore successful titles by any measure. I don't think the fact changes even if one were to measure them against Halo or Gears.

Since the PS3 has a lower Install base and if a game sold
1+ million then It done very well, the 360 has a bigger install base, It Should sell more otherwise it didn't do well, The Wii Better sell the most, It has to to be a success.
Wii Sports, over 20 million sold, Thats a success.

I don't understand why people consistently place the focus on the developers when stuff like this happens. Sony's development family have the advantage of being given additional time, research and the safety of investing into developing new technologies to try and get the most out of the hardware. After Kaz Hirai boldly admitted that Sony knew the platform would be difficult to develop for, yet went ahead of the architecture selection, you begin to understand why only companies with time, money and a safety cushion can been able to get the most out of it - and it's again no surprise those companies have been Sony developers.

When you don't have as much time, money or resources then you are forced to do the best you can have with what is in front of you. If anyone is to get heat for this, it shouldn't be the developers but Sony themselves. But even Sony are only guilty of trying to 'reach for the Sun' - its a testament to their ambitions, but maybe also their arrogance.

It should be acknowledged that several companies have, for the most part, initially struggled to get into grasp with the Cell architecture. And yet so many dismiss them for lacking any true skills despite producing the same game in superior fashion for the 360? It just doesn't fly.

I guarantee you the next platform Sony launch will not adopt such an overly complicated architecture for developers that force them to invest money and time just trying to figure out how it works. Painful lessons this generation for Sony. I doubt these comparisons really affect their sales, but it's just another negative that they didn't need. Microsoft improved from the previous generation and learned. Sony will too.

I'm not buying that, it's not just Sony developers who figured out the PS3 because they have unlimited time and funds. There's a ton of developers outside of Sony who made both exclusive and multiplatform games that weren't gimped, and definitely not to the degree of Ghostbusters which is something I'd have expected in 2007, not 2009 and not from a game that supposedly led on PS3. Companies did have trouble with the PS3, in 2007, no one is denying that. Problem is, it's 2009 and every other developer has figured it out or at least brought the PS3 versions of games a lot closer.

So, yeah, it's definitely the developers, either through inexperience or lack of technical ability. No one ever claimed PS3 development was easy, but no one ever claimed PS2 development was easy either, but the work you put in is equal to the product you get out.

Haha exactly. And KZ2 is only a generic shooter, own it myself, inFamous I have played the demo its allright but thats about it. No AAA game to return to again and again for me. Its on a 8.5 on Metacritic which is allright.

But in the end I think I was right buying the PS3 for LittleBigPlanet on a 9.5 out of 10 highest ranked exclusive. For this year I've said from early on that Uncharted 2 will be about the only game thats really worth playing on the PS3 exclusive.

The other multiplatform games are better on the 360, so I'll buy those versions, with Forza 3, Halo: ODST, L4D 2 and all the best versions of the multiplats this year for sure isn't Sony's year as said before by all PS3 droids, with God of War III going into 2010, GT5 2010 etc etc. I guess 2010 will be the year of the PS3 Sony fans?

I own both a PS3 and 360. I was planning on getting Ghostbusters for PS3 because it was supposedly the "lead Platform" and I read all those BullS#!t articles about it being able to render more items on screen.

It doesn't bother me that one version ended up better than the other - that happens all the time, look at Bionic Commando (PS3 is better), Tom Clancy's: Hawx (360 better), Terminator Salvation (PS3), X-men Origins (360), Wanted: Weapons of Fate (PS3), Street Fighter IV (360), and so forth - what bothers me is that Terminal Reality blatantly lied about the quality of the PS3 version. Even though the game is getting moderately high reviews (Metacritic average = 78 right now) the dishonesty turns me off from the game and any future products associated with that company. Its incredibly sad for me, a huge Ghostbusters fan, that the game has been dealt with thusly.

In the end, if I do eventually pick the title up I am obviously going to get it on 360, even though I had planned on getting it for PS3.

For hours I have been following the comments, it is very hard to understand such fanboyism...

I have both systems (my XBOX360 is cracked/firmwared) and a PC. I own COD4, DMC4, AC and GTAIV for PS3 and also copied versions of them for XBOX360 as well. There is no big differecences among those games except GTA IV where the PS3 version is more colourful but blurry, XBOX360 version is washed out(colours) but sharper. So they have their own advantages for that one. The other titles look nearly the same. I cannot notice any difference but I cannot also understand how those critics write tons of differences in their comparisons. Those are nonsense and lie. Do not trust them.

People are directed wrongly because of your comments, no one should buy their console according to the idea of "Title X looks better on XBOX but not on PS3". Mulitplatform titles are all the same, I am saying again, there is no difference unless you take the magnifier and look maybe...

For me, the majority of XBOX360 titles are available on PC, so a PC + PS3 combo would make more sense. Therefore it is possible for you to play all the console games and the PC titles (with available XBOX360 titles). It is not worth owning an XBOX360 for forza, project gotham, gears 2 etc. which are not available for PC (for now).

If you really do think SPUs are threads, then you're going to have question yourself when you start to learn what first-party developers are actually performing on them. I suggest you read Naughty Dog and Insomniac conference notes and what they have moved to SPUs. I'm afraid you're not going to see the kind of deferred rendering seen in Killzone 2 on the Xbox 360. You're also not going to see anything as close and visually impressive as Uncharted 2 - most people's game of E3. This is ONLY possible because of the SPUs - and it's not all talk - you can see it VERY clearly in results NOW.

You need to think differently, or you're going to be as confused as Terminal Reality were. 'In their keynote, Sony Santa Monica explained that the SPUs aren't actually coprocessors but are full general purpose processors that can handle code directly lifted from the PPU.' I hate this because the PS3 is my main console and I planed on buying most games in the PS3 so that i can have the most with me when i travel (2 consoles is just too much for traveling). Also Prototype gets the blues, and RE 5 got inferior texture too. The one thing 360 does always a quite a bit better though i must say, is clarity of visuals regards to definition but also in higher looking textures.Ps3 can also have high textures but the issue here is that things always look a little better on 360 due to it's crisper output

Personally i think the PS3 is better machine in quite a few ways but clearness is certainly one area it suffers when directly compared - Bioshock being a good example of how badly blurred things can look on PS3 with Uncharted being a really good example of how clean PS3 can also look - even then though the textures you always see from shots, are not ever quite as insanely crisp in game as what say the likes of Gears textures which certainly are insanely detailed

Sorry, any textures you see in Gears from closer than 10 feet are just ok, nothing spectacular at all. The textures are actually quite average and they only look good from a decent ways away.

And the "clearness" thing you're talking about is anti-aliasing. The "blur" effect you see on some PS3 titles is called Quincunx AA, and it is supposed to be an equivalent to 4X MSAA, but it provides a slight blurring unfortunately. The 4XAA would preferably be used if it were not for the performance degradation it would bring.

It honestly depends on the skill of the developer that is working with the PS3.

And another point, the engine in Uncharted is just plain more technically proficient and complicated than the Gears engine or pretty much anything on either platform. That's not a guess, that's not conjecture, it's just fact. It's an amazing game engine and what it puts out is pure gold. I dare you to play Uncharted and tell me the textures in the dirt and rocks by themselves don't blow you away.

Really, Sony never should have let this game be developed by a third party and/or released on the 360 period. And if Terminal Reality screwed this property that hard on the PS3 version, they are probably liable in some way so they better watch out.

I JUST got home with my copy, put it in the disk tray, loaded up, and at the Ghostbusters logo, it says "Game Data Corrupt.Repairing." What does that mean? My systems not broken, the game works... is it just their stupid way of saying "installing game"? On top of that, I don't see how GAME DATA can be corrupt in a mass-produced game. It can't be getting full. I put in a 500 GB HDD and it said last time I checked (yesterday) it was still 346/4?? (the ?? are since I don't remember exactly what the PS3 takes for the OS when installing a newer HDD, and I know it takes more with the bigger the size HDD you put in.) But about the way it looks, its not as bad as this report makes it sound. It just looks like it could have used a bit more polish, and a little more QA, since I just ran into a system crash during the fight outside the Hindenburg theater show (Opera singers).

The games native resolution is 960×540. Seriously, 480p is 720×480, so you can upscale all day long pal but it ain't gonna increase texture resolution. The only way that game will be displayed in 1080p is if your T.V. up scales the signal not the crapy PS3. The T.V. has to do it. Rguardless the game sucks on the PS3 and there an't no deyning it.

IGN gave both versions 8.5 for graphics and did mention differences but said ultimately "I'll save you the suspense and tell you both versions are getting the same score for graphics because the overall package is solid on each platform."

And so far on metacritic there's only a 1 point difference between the two. You'd think if one version was so much better, it would be impacting review scores, but it isn't. What do you all make of that?

My point isn't just with IGN though. It was just an example. My point is so far no one is really picking up on these differences, other than slight passing comments that don't impact the scores.

Certainly people didn't hesitate to jump all over the PS3 version of Fallout 3 and those differences were minor. This is a fairly high profile title, with allegedly huge differences (even though if you watch the video, in motion it's hard to tell)

Yeah, sorry, I don't completely trust IGN. They claimed the PS3 version of Bioshock was better than the 360 version and I bought the PS3 version based on those claims, only to find out that it looked noticeably inferior to the 360 version that I had already played through (I bought the PS3 version for the extra content).

When other comparisons came out it was obvious that the PS3 version was far inferior to the 360 version and even after the patch it still looks noticeably worse.

Here's the deal, most reviewers do not play both versions and if they do they don't actually do a detailed comparison between them. Most reviewers also have a tendency not to say anything, because they are afraid to step on any toes. If they say the PS3 version is inferior maybe Sony won't give them an early review copy of the next big game, for example. All I know is that, as an owner of a PS3 and 360, most reviewers do not mention differences between multiplatform games even when after I have compared both versions I notice big differences.

Believe me, the fact that a reviewer fails to mention multiplatform differences does not mean that they do not exist.

(Edit: If you think the differences between both versions of Fallout 3 were "minor" you are either very unobservant or totally biased.)

I watched so many comparisons and all I ever noticed were that on the PS3 the roaches seemed shinier. No difference in draw difference, no issues. In fact, most complaints with the PS3 version weren't graphical in nature, and they were fixed with a patch the week the game launched.

Awesome game, by the way. One of my favorite games of last year.

At any rate, we've now heard from the developers themselves. Lens used a preview copy, not the finished build. End of story.

I have always found Lens of Truth to be spot on in their comparisons and I really appreciate that there are groups out there like them that go to the trouble of analyzing these multiplatform games so that multi-console owners like myself have the information we need to make informed buying decisions.

i have the Playstation 3 version. i've had it sense Friday, and i've beaten it already.

visually, i think it looked very good, with relatively sharp textures and good detail. since i don't play video games under a microscope, i don't care if there are jaggies when you zoom in 600% on the image. i sit a good 8 feet away from my TV (it's a 40" Samsung, 720p set), and the game looks damn good (i'm currently running it at 1080i, because i was playing around with the 720p/1080i settings on the PS3 and haven't switched them back yet).

i don't know how it compares to the 360 version, because i haven't played that one, but i highly doubt it's at Splinter Cell: Double Agent levels.

ultimately, the game is a LOT of fun to play, and i highly recommend it as a buy for Ghostbusters fans, and a rent for those that know nothing about the franchise.

as a diehard GB fan, i have to say i was pleased with the finished product.

people need to stop taking what they read on the internet as gospel truth, and play these damn things for themselves, on their OWN TVs, and THEN judge them.

Considering that the president of Terminal Reality tried to compare the PS3's SPU's to the 360's cores, should have been your first warning that he is completely full of SH@T.

He attempted to say the PS3 has 7 processors while the 360 has 3. Any person with half a brain, or the slightest bit of hardware knowledge knows that each SPU is similar to a THREAD, not a Core. Therefore its more like 5 360 threads (1 used for OS) compared to 6 PS3 SPU's (one locked, and one used for OS).

I just got the Ps3 version of ghostbusters and it looks great there is no way it could look better on 360, maybe equal but not better. those websites doing the comparisons need to check there tv's.

I fail to understand how some people say that the PS3 version plays like/ looks like crap when I doubt any other system owner would buy the 2...or 3 (since there's a WHOLE different presentation of this on the Wii) different copies of the same game just so they can come on to a site and bash. Just bash your own copy, not your "competitions"... I myself had the game crash on me during the second level, which sucked, but it still plays fine. I just hope it doesn't happen as much as it does in Fallout 3.

only children care about resolution. the rest of us should know better. they are at that age where they think they know everything and have not yet reached the age where you realise they know NOTHING!

if the game plays awesome you will not even know or care what the res is when your console is upscaling. if the resolution needs to be slightly dropped (for whatever reason) to improve frame rates and ultimately gameplay then that is a good thing. so what if the PS3 is harder to develop for, it will get easier over time.

it is a long term investment in the tech that is what will matter over time. Terminal reality will have learnt a lot from this game and every game they make for the PS3 because it is new and promising tech.

My only problem is that when capturing there vids and pics, they are using component cables. Ain't HDMI better on the ps3 to see texture clarity but I am no professional. I notice when I play games on component, they look washed out and low res, but on HDMI it looks alot better. But who knows....

Yeah, but I don't think it would wash out to the extent that you couldn't see details like high contrast glowing embers. I agree with LoT on this one, and it does suck. Maybe TR shipped with a bug and will release a patch for the textures. That'd be nice, though I won't hold my breath for it...
