Mezmer Games has announced Legio, a turn-based chess-style strategy game that resembles Heroes of Might & Magic for the PC, and included a gameplay trailer showing off combat.
GN writes, "Imagine a turn-based strategy game with stats reminiscent of early RPGs, topped with the classic strategic gameplay of Chess. It would be the perfect “thinker’s game,” an ideal mix of brain-melting strategy and modern age game design. But who would make such promises? Legio did."
GameShard writes: "The biggest problem with Legio is that it doesn’t really seem to be for anyone. It’s similar to Chess, but with fantasy creatures; if I wanted that I’d just play something like Battle Chess, and the other elements of the game aren’t developed nearly enough to be interesting. If you’re after a quick strategy offering to play against your friend, Legio will do the job well enough, but there are better developed games out there."
CheatCC says, "Regardless of how you look at it, Legio isn't a game for everyone. Instead, it caters to a very specific niche audience in both its gameplay and presentation. However, for a price tag of just $10, it is difficult to say whether this is something you'd want or not. If you very much enjoy one on one games of the mind, then you'd certainly love it. Of course, if you prefer human opponents over AI, then you may want to wait and see if the online community either gets a better platform or just more players"
