Microsoft Surprises Everyone At E3

If you happened to be at the E3 convention or were just watching it live on the net, you would have certainly be shocked by what Microsoft delivered today. In total, they officially announced 15 new smashing titles for the 360, some of which were very highly anticipated over the last few months (and even years for some).

Yeah, MS had an incredible conference. Alan Wake and Splinter Cell look amazing. Crackdown 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and Metal Gear Solid: Rising were nice surprises. The Natal thing has been getting a lot of positive previews.

Yea I had a feeling MS was going to have a big conference but I was really impressed. The motion sensing dashboard, twitter and all the great games, I just have a feeling MS might take this E3. I mean they were even taking shots at Sony, saying there won't be any pie charts in this conference and claiming Forza as the number 1 racing game. Even as a Sony fanboy I have to say MS is putting in work but we still got Sony's conference and I have high hopes for it.

they only showed what everyone already knew was coming so for me it was kinda boring

what did surprise me though was L4D2 i wasn't expecting that in the least i thought we would get more DLC first before a sequel was ever even thought of

If you don't have any reason to turn your PS3 on, you might just sell it. Killzone2 and Infamous just came out and you are saying it is waiting ?? Go play wii then. Unless, you are one of those people who can buy consoles but can't afford game, otherwise, there are plenty of games out there for PS3 (may be your whole college fee worth).

@ MS e3, It was indeed very good. I am looking for many games from the list. Definitely getting AlanWake and L4D2. I have never played any splinter cell, so I am going to keep my eyes on it. Oh, and Crackdown 2 :D

I wouldn't be so quick to be rejoice GamerTags. I'm underwhelmed that there will only be 1 true AAA exclusive on the 360 this year. Yes Splinter Cell Conviction. There's already a forza 2 to hold over forza 3... so its not that big of an announcement. I'll give it an A anyway, but that barely makes 2.

Crackdown2 is not an AAA title. It just isn't. Its a great B title. Everyone who has played it knows it.

I'm usually mad at MS for their poorly built console, but this year, they showed some cool stuff, a few things exclusive to them I really think are cool is Splinter Cell Conviction (I'm bummed its not coming to PS3, I really wanted to play it), and Project Natal.

I'm not a fan of Natal, but it is great programming none the less. I still think that instead of creating great demos like Lionhead has shown with Milo, I think devs will take the easy way out with poorly made games. One thing that I thought of was MP games that used that. Think of the overhead of all the data the servers would need to send to one another to properly transmit data. Yes, it is just position/voice data..but when you compare that to just button inputs, the data packets would become huge. Frankly, I'm still running on 1.5mbps download rates. That is when I'm the only one using the internet at my house..which has 4 computers.

Alan Wake also looked good, but to be honest, I was bummed. Maybe it was the wait, maybe its just how it played. The effects were great and all, but I'm not too sure at the moment.

Also, MGS:R. While that isn't exclusive to them, I'm hoping it will turn out ok. Supposedly Kojima isn't directing it, idk if he said that himself, or not, I'm not sure what the source is, but if he isn't, it won't be that experience I'm looking forward to. Even if he was, if Kojima-san can't create a game that meets his vision with 50 gigs, how is a 7 gig limit going to help?

E3 is good so far. I hope they keep it up.

I too was really impressed by Microsoft's press conference. I admit I favor the 360 a little more than the PS3, but I own and enjoy both consoles and to be honest I thought Microsoft's might be a tad disappointing this year. But it turns out they surpassed my expectations in many ways.

For one thing I didn't think they would have as many surprises as they did. Crackdown 2, Halo Reach and Left 4 Dead 2 were truly nice surprises. For me, those are all huge games and to have that many surprise announcements for games of that caliber is really quite impressive.

To see actual footage of games like Alan Wake and Splinter Cell Conviction was exciting for me, because those are games I have been looking forward to for a while.

Halo ODST looks awesome and I can't wait for it.

Metal Gear Solid Rising was a huge announcement as well, basically rivaling the FFVIII announcement last year. MGS has always been a fantastic franchise and getting it on the 360 is great news for 360 owners.

So many awesome announcements as far as new stuff coming to the 360 UI and Xbox LIVE. I am not going to mention them all right here, but suffice to say they left me very impressed and excited.

Project Natal looks really promising and the things Peter Molyneux and others showed and talked about was really exciting stuff.

I think any fair-minded person would have to give Microsoft props for an excellent E3 showing.

Now I am looking forward to Sony's conference. If it is anywhere near as good as Microsoft's (or better) gamers are in for a real treat. Owning both consoles I think I am going to go crazy this year trying to keep up with all the gaming goodness.

I haven't played much of either my 360 or PS3 and have been playing my PC a lot more. But MS announcements have gotten me excited for a few games.

Alan Wake looks awesome. MSG announcement must really hurt Sony fanboys feelings knowing that the 360 can handle these graphics.

My biggest surprise was Forza 3 and how amazing the graphics look. Mix in all the features of Forza and great gameplay, this is the title I look most forward too on either the 360 or PS3 this year.

The motion controller looks very impressive, but I have little faith that this will gain much momentum due to the fact it is expensive and a little late in the game. This will most likely be a test for MS next gen machine.

Overall, a very strong showing by MS. Now if Sony can show some interesting things, I will dust off my PS3 also.

I really dont know why everyone is so excited about MGS:R. Sure its a metal gear on the 360, which is awesome for 360 only owners. But honestly, as a huge MG fan, its not the same. It's not gonna be the same stealth action that made metal gear great. On top of that, personally, I'm not a big fan of the future "lead" character. All in all, I dont see the game as being that huge.

You're right. It did really hurt me. Watching that awful acting by Don Mattrick was very, very painful. I really felt bad for Kojima for having to go through with that. However, I really don't think PS3 fans care a whole lot. 1st, the game isn't exclusive. John Schappert said so himself. 2nd, Kojima said the game will be a completely new Metal Gear experience. So for all the PS3 fans that have played Metal Gear Solid and loved it, this might come as a bit of a disappointment. And 3rd, Kojima still has a game or two to announce tomorrow at Sony's conference.

LMAO @ you guys trying to make a megaton out of nothing. Not many people actually care that MGSR is on 360, because it is also on PS3. It was a teaser for a game, no gameplay or CGI shown, which means it is most likely a 2011 title, so don't get too happy about it.

All I can say is you MS fanboys better buy this game, because if it doesn't sell well, then I don't think Kojima will ever go to 360 again.

Alan Wake and Forza 2, there was nothing showing us what MGSR will be like and many others were either multi-plat or Halo related. I'm not a Halo fan so that stuff makes no difference to me. As for the motion tech... Come on, I'm a hardcore gamer and have little time for casual titles that use such gimmicks. Sure, if you like that sort of thing then so be it but I am looking at their conference from my perspective and much of the conference was left to the casual.

The difference between Microsoft and Sony is that Microsoft tend to announce everything at E3. Sony do some at E3, some out of the blue. And the firmware updates come out every three months.

That's why I wouldn't be surprised if overall Microsoft's conference is better. If it is it's not the end of the world.

Umm, I don't think I heard any "PS3 fanboy" saying that the 360 couldn't handle a new MGS game, what I have heard is that it can't handle MGS4 since it was optimized for the PS3. Obviously a multiplat won't be optimized for any one console, so obviously the 360 could handle it. Lame article in my opinion.

Alan Wake. That's great. We've been waiting for years, it's not like it's a secret. Nice that they've finally got a release date for it. Forza, Halo: We already knew these were coming. Bring the price down on the Halo expansion and then we're talking. I'm not paying full price for a 4 hour game. Metal Gear Solid: Again, we knew they were working on something for over a year now and it'll probably hit the PS3 as well. I'll probably get it, but hardly earth shattering. L4D:2, I don't do XBL. Maybe I'll get this on my PC. I got bored with Splinter Cell after the second one. Never played Crackdown, but that might be worth checking out.

Then we've got Facebook and motion control - Two things absolutely no one was asking for.

Where the hell are the games for 2009? Where's the reason for me to turn on my 360 again since Gears and Fable 2 are done. For a exclusive, timed Modern Warfare map? Screw you, Microsoft. I've spent over $900 on my 360 since launch for online, wi-fi, controllers, play and charge kits, extended warranties and gone through the nightmare of 4 consoles and your shoddy tech support. At least give me more than two goddamn decent exclusives per year.

If I could even get half what I've spent on that damned console I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Nothing MS showed shocked me. It was a very good showing, but I wasn't shocked at all.

Left 4 dead coming out so soon was a surprise. Crackdown was rumored, but it was only shown in trailer form. Forza 3 looked good; however the developer told a bold lie saying it was the best looking racing game (Top 5 yes, but #1 NO). Halo ODST seemed wasn't shown enough at the moment. Facebook, Twitter, and Last FM aren't big for me.

Now Alan Wake, even though the gameplay (from what they showed) wasn't as genre defining as I expected, looked great.

And MGS: R was expected seeing as how the announcement was on the day of MS conference (it would have been huge if it was exclusive like some sites said it was or if they at least showed a decent trailer).

Mylo's world was boring, but I could see it leading up to something really defining for the gaming industry just not anytime soon. I could care less about interacting with a virtual boy, and it seemed like Mylo was EyePet to the extreme.

The 3D motion camera really surprised me it was more thought through than I thought. The racing game looked really fun, the questionnaire game seems interesting, shuffling through menus with motion was nice as well, painting thing would get a quick play through, and adding the skateboard to the game was genius. Everything else not so much.

After reviewing the conference once again I feel that MS had a very good conference nothing mind blowing, but very good.

Final score: B+ MS did a great job even though they once again used "Ctrl C" "Ctrl V", they still managed to show some pretty revolutionary tech which will surely be used in their next console.

For months all we heard was no way 360 gets a mgs game, no way no way, they want to raise the bar, it would take 50 dvd's , then we get one, and they go "oh it was expected, by who, not any sony fanboys that I saw. It will be interesting to see the reaction to Sony's games in light of some of the comments made about MS's - particulary downplaying announcements of games "we knew were coming anyways".

God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, Uncharted 2, Ratchet & Clank - we all know those are coming - will they also be downplayed like MS's sequels are being downplayed here? Somehow, I doubt it.

That said, I agree with JOY that darkride being underwhelmed by MS's show today is not surprising. Ya know why? Because Microsoft's show today WAS underwhelming. The Crackdown 2 announcement brings a smile to anyone who enjoyed the original (which is just about everyone who played it) and the Milo video made me raise an eyebrow. Otherwise, it's just more of the same from the MS camp (that is, a small handful of confirmed-a-year-ago exclusives, multi-plats disguised as "exclusives" and truck loads of corporate d!ck-waggling). First, I am a little biased, but no fanboy. I own all three, and enjoy them for different things, 360 most of my games, sports games are my fav, wii for party games, ps3 for blue ray and exclusives. The day that sony gets a gears of war or halo game, something different from the main line of those games, people like you will be "oh snap, in your face xbots, blah blah blah," When God of war 3 was leaked, with no gameplay or anything, fanboys were oh my god, greatest game ever, blah blah blah. am I happy about the new mgs not really, I did't love mgs4, I just love when a company does what it can to get a game, or game type that its customers wanted. Here's the thing. I wanted Microsoft to impress me. I wanted to pump my fist in the air and yell "That's what I'm talkn about! Bring it!" I wanted to be excited to be a 360 owner again.
I remember the elation I felt when I first saw the Halo 3 trailer. I remember thinking that "things will only get better from this point on" after seeing my first shots of Gears of War in action. I remember being awed by my first glimpse of Bioshock's underwater creepiness in action, and thrilled when Call of Duty jumped into modern day. Those were exciting times to be a gamer and I really though that they would just continue to raise the bar from that point on.
Then they didn't. Gears 2 and Fable 2 were great, don't get me wrong, but I went a year between Halo 3 and Gears 2 where I didn't buy a damn thing on my 360. And now it looks like it'll be over a year between Fable 2 and Alan Wake (I'm not paying full price for a 4 hour Halo expansion).
Where are the games for 2009? Where are the new titles? Where are limits being pushed? Where is the "pump fist in air" excitement that I used to have as a 360 owner?
It's no secret that I prefer my PS3, but the reason that came about was because Microsoft forced me into Sony's waiting arms with shoddy hardware and I really wasn't too sad to leave the howling racist cries of Xbox Live behind me (not to mention the cost is an extra game a year). I only purchase exclusives on my 360 because I just know my 4th console is going to go at any second and I won't buy a new one once it's done. You only have to be unable to play the bulk of your games once before you change your gaming habits.
In my opinion, MS didn't show me anything I wanted to see. I wanted new. I wanted fresh and I wanted something I hadn't seen before. They failed to deliver, as they have since 2007. That was a good year to be a 360 owner.

So, for all those who think MS had a great E3 showing, I'd love to hear what you're so excited about and why because apparently you saw a different presentation than I did. Motion cameras and Facebook. What the hell were they thinking?

I'll be just as critical of Sony if they fail to deliver. That's the difference between gamers and fanboys. If you look at my posting history I've never hesitated to give credit where credit is due, no matter what platform. I tend to come out on Sony's side more because in my opinion they have the best console, and it's the target of the most nonsense in these ridiculous console wars.

You want to know why I focused on Microsoft when their earnings came out? Because NO ONE else was. Almost half a billion dollars in profit goes up in smoke over 6 months since the price cut and no one batted an eye, no article examined that, no one reported it. Odd, don't you think? Meanwhile, do a search for Sony's earnings and everyone was tripping over themselves to slag Sony, despite the fact that they halved their loss year over year during the worst economic downturn since the great depression - mostly attributed to currency fluctuations. That's why you saw no blog from me on that topic. It's because of the North American media skew when it comes to MS vs Sony issues.

If you want to label me as being on this side or another in the console wars, knock yourself out. Thinking gamers know where I stand. They're the ones that actually add to conversations and aren't afraid to raise issues related to gamers without mindlessly bashing other members.

Just look at the responses to my comments. Not a single person actually addressed anything I said, they all just went for the personal attacks. It's because they don't have anything to add. If they could, they'd disagree with me, not personally attack me and call names. That's playground behavior.

Some how I think a lot of the attention may go towards the PSP Go if it is announced officially. For instance... rumors are now out that Gran Turismo 5 may not make an appearance but GT Mobile will be the centre piece instead. I am not sure what's gonna happen with that. However Sony should hav a great line up as well. I think this year will be BIG for E3.

I think Natal is gowing to change the way games are made. Prob not straight away, but seeing how the big-guns are now interested in it, you can see the huge possibilities it can and does have.

We have several "one-on-ones with some of the dev/pub's tomorrow, and Sony have asked us in to a meeting for an announcement or two, so hopefully it will be in those mate.

We'll have out=r Cover-It-Live broadcasting again, and throughout the next 3 days or so with some interviews, podcasts and video footage - where and when we're allowed to film of course.

SOny will have some excellent titles, but if they focus more on the PSP-go and such, they could lose the wind they have for this year. The possibility of a slimmer PS3 is there, but two big changes in hardware right now given their finacials is a bit iffy.

But hey, nothing is known, and it could all turn out to be peachy for ALL gamers.

My biggest blast was seeing the beatles live on the stage, Oko Ono, and the new exclusive content for 360 of Rock Band and the White album DLC and Abby Road . . .never really wanted to get Rock Band, until that moment.

Tingles went through me like little pulses, brought back some fond memories of gigging in band when I was a little nipper . . which was some time ago mind you.

When we get back, we have some hands-on time with Rockstar's new DLC for GTA:IV as well. SO keep your eye out on these Affiliate sites, as they'll be sharing any news we get, and adding their own personal twist to it, not just repeating it . . .which is what OXCGN wants, not all this same old same old so many sites do these days.

dude i have to say this, i think you will find that the gaming industry is one of the very few that kids/people work in because they love what they do.

its not easy work and they don't always make as much money as we sometimes think ( as with most enterprises, its the big boys at the top that rake in the cash ) but working in a creative industry where you can see your dreams and ideas come to life will always be rewarding.

my brother is a games tester here in the uk. he makes a very average wage and has to spend about a quarter of it just on transport to get to his job ( at the moment he is testing LBP ) MM studios is in Guildford while we live in London. he could just get a permanent job in London but he goes up there because he loves doing it.

the strange thing is you will find for a lot of the big guys at the top its about the money, but fore most of the devs and programmers its about loving what they do and doing it for fun... if it wasn't there are many other industries that could use there skills.

Rare is a no show so far which is surprising. Peter gave a tech demo of something called "Milo" which is like a virtual person that can recognize what you are doing and can have a conversation with you.

Milo is the character in the game demo mate, not the game or software . . ;-)

Whatching the interaction was something else, and it is all based on the Natal software and technology which will be worked into all the games and home entertainment experience.

SO you can basically walk in a room, your characters on screen will recognise you and thus interact with you.

Tjis is what "Milo" was doing with the lady in the demo . .simply amazing stuff, especially the water experiment at the very end, it looked like she WAS swirling the water around herself, and the drawing she did and "Passed" it across to Milo, who then TOOK it from here just blew me away, all without even looking stilted or mechanical whatsoever.

We'll be having some hands on time with Natal and Milo, as MS have asked us into the special selected screening and demos over the next few days, we got the invite from them just days before the gy=uys left for LA. So keep your eyes peel at OXCGN or lvl2gamer or any of the other 8 OXCGN Affiliate Game Sites

Milo was the character created to demonstrate the capabilities of project Natal. I did watch the conference. Again, it looks really cool being able to hold a conversation with a virtual character and interact with it, but I still don't find much use in these types of games. The only things that were unexpected was Kojima and the fact that their motion control scheme uses cameras rather than a controller like most expected. The only 360 games I can see myself picking up throughout the rest of the year are Halo: ODST and possibly Forza.

Yeah I forgot about L4D2. It's just so odd for Valve to release a sequel so soon, but hopefully it has more than 4 campaigns like you stated earlier. I guess "surprise" was the wrong word for me to use. What I mean is none of the things really got me excited outside of MGS. Crackdown 2 and Forza were expected, Milo was nice but I have no faith in Molyneux anymore, I've never been interested in Alan Wake, and I'm not a fan of motion controls. Although, I do believe Natal will be nice if the right devs get behind it. Still much better than last year though and hopefully the next two conferences will follow the pattern.

Edit: I also can't believe Rare didn't show up. I was really hoping for a new Conker and/or Killer Instinct game. They tease about KI3 so much that I'm sure it has to exist in some form.

. . . let's be honest here, the past 2 years Microsoft has come into E3 with very low expectations and have managed to excite but this year was very impressive. With Halo ODST, Splinter Cell Conviction, Left 4 Dead 2 and Forza 3 this fall, Sony has to hope it has more to offer than Uncharted 2 and another Ratchet and Clank game. I'm waiting for Sony's press conference but with Heavy Rain, God of War III and possibly MAG slipping to 2010, I want to see some release dates. Seriously. Last year Microsoft had an impressive finish with Fable 2, Left 4 Dead and Gears of War 2. Sony has to finish the year strong. It alway seems Microsoft manages to remain idle for half the calendar year then finish strong, stealing all the momentum. Most people don't even realise that in 2008 Microsoft had more titles exclusive to its console with a metascore of 80 or higher than Sony. Sony always has a top heavy line up but no one pays attention to how thin it is when games slip to the next year. I want more than Uncharted 2 and a Ratchet and Clank game this fall.

I just watched it for the fun of it.Im waiting for Sony's press conference tomorrow but MS actually had a good conference.The things that most impressed me was Forza Motorsport 3 its looking really goodand I like how the digital info on the Audi R8's gauges in inside view in the trailer actually operates correctly unlike the R8 in GT 5 Prologue that doesnt and Alan Wake looked pretty good I liked the lighting effects in that but what mostly amazed me was the natal project mostly the mylo demonstration which was amazing how the kid in the game communicated and reacted to the woman playing.I just hope sony brings the thunder tomorrow GT 5 release date twisted metal u know the works.

It wasn't surprising but just exactly what we could expect. New good games, dashboard updates, videos of games that kept very quiet until now and release dates.

Even the appearance of Don Mattrick with Hideo Kojima was quite predictable. My only disappointments were about Alan Wake, which appears to be a zombie shooter, Epic's Shadow Complex and Splinter Cell Conviction.

But this was exactly what we were waiting for, a good conference, which erased the lackluster of the previous year. Let's hope Sony's and Nintendo's conferences will be as much good as Microsoft one.

I am a self admitted "sony fnaboy", always have been. But I still think microsoft had a good show. Mgs going to 360 does not bother me. The more people that get to play a great game from a great publisher the better. Alan Wake looked good. The timed maps for MW2 I expected, It will still be a day one purchase for this ps3 owner. The only thing I did not like was the motion controller. It just felt a little too "me too". I dont think it will compete all that well with nintendo. About the only thing I saw that would really want to make me go out and buy a 360 was left for dead 2. That just looks like hella fun!!! We will see what sony brings us tommorow. Dude, there is nothing like Natal in gaming. That totally impressed. I think we're years away from it being anything more than something to amuse casual gamers but man, the possibilities are endless. The Lionhead tech demo, Milo, freaked me to hell out. I was asking the guys watching the conference with me, "Is that really possible?!" Left 4 Dead 2 was expected. The first game sold 2 million copies in a month and a half on the XBox 360, well above expectations. The second looks like Dead Rising meets Left 4 Dead with the melee combat. They need to add better modes to the competitive multiplayer though.

The Motion stuff and the transformation of game machines into multi media entertainment systems is bringing us to the space age of gaming. The games were AAA blockbusters.

Therin lies the achilles heel of this tech... the motion camera doesnt allow for a large range of movements.. simple movements which is why the wii's controls still have an input device... the only way I could see this working on games that require you to traverse an open environment is the page scroll that was revolutionary in myst. Ever. This has been blown way out of proportion and will not sell (the motion control add-on). It will be overpriced, oversold, and underdeliver. How'd that HDDVD addon work out for ya? Maybe let's talk to Sega about add-ons with the 32x and such? MS is in a state of confusion as to who they want to market to. 2-3 years ago, these very same 360 owners were mocking the Wii saying it was gimmicky, it would never sell, etc., and the 360 was the "real" next-gen machine as it was aimed at "real" gamers and it had big, beefy guys with machine gun chomping on cigars as their mascots... Now, look at them. Catering to the soccer moms out there and you fanboys are so confused also, you're defending something they are building that you yourselves aren't even interested in in the very least!

The Wii was developed AROUND the idea of motion controls. The Wii console itself sells like hotcakes, but it's attachment ratio is VERY poor, third parties suffer, and there is alot of gimmicky shovelware on the platform. Know why? Because it's hard to program for games that use motion control as input and honestly, most games that try it pull it off in such a way you'd rather play with normal controls.

It's going to flop and not only will the motion controls flop on the 360, they will be the metaphorical motorcycle the 360 is riding on jumping over that shark as it's lost it's way. It's trying to appeal to everyone and their mothers while the PS3 has the hardcore folks in it's aim and the Wii has the soccer moms hearts already.

Todays showing at E3 was mediocre at best and a bumbling mess of speakers having to clap for themselves as announcement after announcement was met with crickets falling asleep. They sure did push the hype though, didn't they? They even have some of you that were laughing at the Wii with gimmicky motion controls thinking it's actually cool now and something MS should focus on, instead of that hardcore market that brought you to it. Whatever floats your boat.

Sony has had the EyeToy for years now and it's been decent, but nothing noteworthy. This will have similar success, nothing that should have taken up so much E3 time given it's just an addon.

You can also download full titles straight to the PSP, PS1 or full PSP titles. Some games have features that open up when you connect the PS3 to the PSP. On and on and on on this point.

Live SKY TV? Yeah.. I can turn on my TV and my 360 to watch live TV. Hmm.

Watching movies in a party is a cool feature. Nothing to say there, they beat Sony to the punch with that one. A great bonus that is more important to me than the motion control crap.

While alot of what MS announced was surprising, hardly any of it had to do with gaming besides the motion control stuff which will not do very well for a few reasons (namely cost and the fact it's not packed in with every system).

Sony has 2 hours tomorrow and will show MS how to do a proper E3 showing.

Let me be cynical for a minute as I analyze what MS actually announced in their conference!
All the games that were announced were expected or rumored months before E3, with the exception of MGS:Rising.
Project Natal was shown too early as I think MS should have saved that for the next console, which would allow them to market the console to a broader market from day one! At the moment if Natal was released in the next 12 months I would only surmise that you would be seeing it applied to minigames within games or used specifically in sport sims.

Left4Dead 2 .... was bound to be made, owing to the success of the first game!
Halo ODST .... cannot be considered as a full retail game!
MGS:Rising .... is not exclusive!
Alan Wake .... looks promising!
Halo: Reach .... still a work in progress!
Mass Effect 2 .... looks promising!

All in all MS showed a lot of third party games, of which exclusivity their exclusivity is still up in the air!

Verdict: By no means has MS had an "amazing" conference, MGS: Rising might pale in comparison if the likes of Nintendo announced Zelda on the Wii, or Sony announced a release date for Gran Turismo or God of War!

MS can keep paying for the games, and DLC, but look at the big picture and that's a department that is setting itself up for failure in the future by not investing in themselves instead!

I only own a PS3, thought I should get that out there first. Now, I didn't get a chance to see any E3 footage yesterday, until I got home late in the evening and went to Gametrailers.com. Seeing the seemingly endless influx of trailers and articles from MS's showings at E3 all at one time just wowed me. I was really impressed with everything they had unveiled and a little envious, but then the shock wore off and I was left thinking, so what was it that really shocked me and why?

I came to the conclusion that so much info at one time overwhelmed me mainly due to the unexpected unveiling of sequels to popular franchise names and the obvious curiosity factor that the new innovations, motion and Milo, have. Realizing that, it changed my mind to feeling overall underwhelmed with MS showings.

In my opinion, stemming from my realizations, the biggest announcements are the Halo games, L4D2, Milo/Motion Controls, Splinter Cell, Alan Wake, MGSR. They all seemed great, but at second glance, they all kind of fell short of expectations, "TO ME." I never liked the Halo series, you could thank the idiotic grunts from the 1st for that. ODST's atmosphere seemed good, but the visually obvious transitions from cutscene to gameplay where unsettling and not to mention the less enemies and overall action on screen in the gameplay. Plus, it just seems like a cashcow, Halo:Reach beta invite and various maps in place of gameplay, for the wait until the real Halo:Reach comes out.

L4D2 sounded cool to me at first but then it just left me feeling pissed of. How dare Steam have the audacity to promote a sequel in such a short time frame. The new characters, chainsaw, and new places that came out in the teaser could very well have been dlc instead. It just seems wrong to me for them to drop support of their game so quick. The game is already just online, so when the new one comes out you will be forced to "upgrade" or be left with a useless product pretty much.

Post is running long, so to sum up the rest of my observations, never liked the Splinter Cell series since the first one. Alan Wake seemed good in its first 2 minutes, but then became somewhat repetitive not to mentions it RE4 controls. I think it was just the level they chose to showcase that made it seem repetitive though. While I wouldn't see myself using Facebook on a console, I don't care much for the XBOX Live and Facebook integration since I would rather keep my social life and gaming life separate, I would probably use Twitter. And finally, the motion controls/Milo and MGS, I like MGS more than Splinter Cell, seem like the only real worthy of praise reveals. -DISCLAIMER- *Everything expressed in the post is my opinion.*

Microsoft really shock me with this year E3. Not just the games, but how they organize the conference. Although the games they announced are basically obvious, and 90% shooters, but I guess Xbox360 owners will love it, as shooters are the reason for buying an Xbox360!

Although the conference is amazing. There are still disappointing moments.
With all the hype surrounding Alan Wake, I'm kin to see what it's about to deliver until they show the footage that turn out to be RE5 wannabe.. !!!

that make the PS3 unique and in my opinion superior to the xbox is that when a game is "labeled" exclusive, that is what it is - only on the playstation 3. When a xbox game is "exclusive", it actually is not, and in that manner, I can buy L4d2 and mass effect 2, halo, etc. with my PC. So, with that factor in mind, the PS3 is really the only game console I will need in the next 3-5 years! (wii is for family use only, i.e. gatherings, parties)

It was practically a repeat from last year more Halo barely showed any exclusives that is not on a PC considering PC gets pirated a lot! and having Metal Gear Solid Rising wasn't big as announcement because announcing Metal Gear Solid 4 would have been of big of announcement then that well maybe not that big since PS3 fans played it already!

Well, I'd say it was an average conference, more or less saved by the MGS action game spinoff.

Without that, it would have been clearly subpar. Crappy XBLA games, multiplatforms and 2010 exclusives yet again.

MS must understand that they must give nice exclusives, not DLC or XBLA games...

What is left for 2009 as exclusives besides this Halo 4 hours expansion ? Not much actually.

I doubt Sony will have trouble to do better. In that way, it's a repeat of last year, where MS conference weaknesses were hidden by an exclusive going multiplat, which no dual console owner cares, of course... A multiplat won't stop my 360 from collecting dust.

GT series sold dozens of millions, Forza sold nearly nothing, and there's a good reason to that : realistic cars, realistic tracks...

If Forza is so good, why do the real pilots train only with GT ?

Trailer for Forza 3 was good though, graphics quality look close to the GT5P (but still inferior, and GT5P was released long ago...)

I'd love to see more posts without all the little jabs at other consoles. The only real problem I have with MS is their product reliability. Now if you don't have a problem with yours or you found their customer service acceptable, good for you. I didn't, so that is on me. I will say I am a PS3/Wii owner, and I am very jealous of Splinter Cell, that looks amazing, and IMO was the only thing I saw that would get me to consider a 360 again. But I tried to look at this conference as if I had a 360, and in that light it was a decent conference. I am a little worried MS is moving into too much Wii territory for my gaming tastes, it just seems to clash with the image of their console. Well, that is my honest opinion, with no intended stabs at any system, only an explanation of how I formulated my opinions, which are in the end, my opinions.

did anybody see ubisoft camera for wii. it does the natal thing with a game comming this year. this will kill ms from trying to tap into the casual game market. so like i been saying get back to making games m$ and not stuff that doesnt matter. this is why this doesnt matter 90% of the time you have a controller in your hand. natal is a good way to show off for your friends but. how many gamers get up and actually play games.only people who work out. so natal isnt helping anyone. seriously at 12 1 2 am are you seriously gonna get up and move around to play some game. no! isnt this the reason sony didn't push the eye toy. Ok I'm very impressed with Microsoft's conference. I'm really excited about project natal if done right we could see some very interesting gaming experiences this fall. The games announced are absolutely awesome. I really don't care if all of some of them come out this year or next year. The games coming out within a year will be great.
Microsoft did a great job at wowing us this year again. Even with such a great showing this year I didn't expect any sony fanboy to give props were they're due. Just won't happen.
Microsoft could have announced the greatest game ever created with photo realistic graphics surpassing Crysis on its highest level settings and the sony fanboys would still find a reason to hate. It's just sad that someone could hate a piece of plastic and metal so much!!! Very weird and strange to me. But I'm very excited about the updates, games and project natal and for Microsoft to include natal in future 360's is a big plus for new 360 owners. I myself may have to buy a new 360 just because. Great showing microsoft you did your thing. Keep it up. Now lets see today what sony has to offer.

Both had good shows (sony, M.S) but in terms of surprises i think M.S nailed it down with MGSRising and natal. Splinter Cell has me pumped up and it looks like GT finally has some competition graphic wise with Forza 3. Looking forward to Uncharted 2 for playstation. Nothing Sony showed was shocking it was more of the same thing they have been showing and talking about for the last few months. Nintendo sucked!
