Game Industry Seeks Deeper Stories

Both Peter Molyneux, head of Lionhead Studios, and David Braben, head of Frontier Developments, agree that the industry is focusing on new ways to add greater depth to stories.

Don't just talk about it. DO something, I loved the first Fable and I have a stong feeling the the next one wil be better.

Ok Molyneux...just focus on getting your game out on time with everything you promised...lets not try to do a whole heck of a lot of wheel reinventing here (like you tried with the acorn growing into a tree and etc in fable1..which ended up getting the axe). I look foreward to what fable2 will bring. Molyneux is under a microscope this time around, hopefully he will put out something great.

But fable 2 might make me get another 360. to me that game is a system seller even more then Bioshock.

Learn something from Japan, they know how to develop and write a great story.

They do have some great games out of Japan with excellent stories but I don't think anyone needs to learn from them! We need to learn from the movie industry and try to truly add the depth of emotion that just to this point doesn't really exist! One day I want to play a game and expect to possibly cry or have second thoughts about playing a horror game because I know I will have nightmares later! Peter is on the right track and even if he didn't live up to his promises I still applaud this guy for trying and not giving up!

You do make a good point. But things that Molyneux say should be taken with a large grain of salt.

Shadow of the colossus could make you cry. The storytelling, music, and the whole setting of the game just brought out all kinds of emotions. Fear, anger, companionship, loneliness.... I didn't cry though.

But yeah I know where you going with that one. Well Peter Jackson is getting into the video game writing thing so maybe something good will get into that.

...was a heart-wrenching experience. (Notice I didn't use the word "game") I don't give a sh!t about the video-game vs. artform argument, but if games weren't as good as SotC, I wouldn't care about gaming either.
