Ikkitousen: Shining Dragon was slapped with an M rating by the ESRB, a decision that ultimately let to the game being canceled. The ESRB justified their rating in the following statement:
Alright, you're just being silly now. Why do we want nakedness in our games? Why NOT? It's the same reason we want it in our movies and TV and magazines and everything else. Combining something I like with the added enjoyment of boobies and upskirts is just natural and adds to the enjoyment.
Why put chocolate syrup on ice cream if ice cream is already so good?
My point is that I don't have to take time away from my video games to look at boobs if my games themselves already have boobs in them. I'm just trying to be more efficient.
It was a PS2 fighting game and the release that was canceled was for the U.S.
I could've put my B/C to some use. I really don't see why an M rating would make them want to cancel it, how old do they think the animes audience is? Tell me this: You walk in a video game store and see a PS2 fighting game with half-naked chicks who clothes are ripped from fighting on the cover and a big ass "M" rating do you become less interested in the game or more interested in the game? They should release it anyway.
I´ll take both... not that I want gorish porn videogames. But why not hack, slash and well need I be more obvious? :P hjahahahaha A boob and a panty never hurt no one.
This is not good. It's not the fact that people won't be able to play a game with scandalously clad women. It's bad because American censorship is getting the power now to not only hurt American developers but also foreign as well. This will grow to destroy the essence of creativity. This is heading down a dark road indeed.
we need some of our fellow N4G members with experience in 3dMax, C++, Visua Basic, Maya, Flash(root4) and any other kind of coding expertise to rally together so WE can FINISH THIS GAME!
If they took off the skirts and called the panties bathing suits then the ESRB wouldn't know any different. The fact is that they see them under skirts and they think it's inappropriate.
I seriously don't get it. It's inappropriate for people to walk down the street in underwear because it's underwear. If they wear a bathing suit that covers the same skin or less then it's not inappropriate.
In this case the skirt, must mean that the garment covering the girls are panties. If they was bathing suits without skirts it wouldn't bat an eye.
This is no different then ESPN showing Dancing, Cheerleader, Gymnastics, Swimming, Tennis, Volleyball, weightlifting and a few other skimpy outfit type events. These aren't rated R or ban why should it matter in video games?
It's like stores putting the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue in the PORN section.
As long as it's not rated E for everyone no one should care if it hits the shelves.
Sad that we band games like this and people getting chain sawed in half is ok. For the record I don't think any games should be band. Studies show people know the different between games and reality. Just look at the Japanese... They make and play half the games out there and they have very little crime. Speaking of Japan, when I was out there, I bought two figures at a game store and the figures are of two of the girls in this game. I didn't know that they where from this game... I just bought it because they where HOT. Hey are boobs a bad thing?
Frankly I think it's sad that a game that has no actual nudity gets an M rating and gets banned. Kids can tune into the National Geographic Channel or the Discovery channel and see African tribal women walking around topless for crying out loud. It's not like they've never seen this kind of stuff before.
So let me get this straight. It's okay for Dead or Alive Beach (or whatever) a game with 95% naked women playing mindless sports and with super exaggerated breast physics and has modes where you can just spectate?
So if it's okay there, why not this game too. More boobies for everyone.
Bottom line sex doesn't always sell. That bikini squad onichambra whatsitscalled that got like a 2/10 is proof of that.
You know when I like violence in my games? When it fits the scenario and the the characters involvement in it in a sound manner.
When do I like sex in my games? Same thing as above.
Mindless hacking and slashing or mindless bimbo squads does not make a game any more enjoyable in any way shape or form.
On topic to that game being pulled from US release it's probably the best decision. It wouldn't sell enough probably to even justify the money spent to port it over.
it is too bad that they don't want to release it here, I saw video of the Japanese version and it looked pretty cool, and another reason it's unfortunate is because it is only getting an M rating not exactly retail death. They should go ahead and take a chance and release here anyway.
but did u ever see the 2nd or third season, their awesome and folow the manga, the fight scenes are crazy, and art is way better, its a different creator thats why
look it up on youtube.
Ikkitousen: Dragon Destiny Ikkitousen: Great Guardians
mother buys 5 yr old GTA, and see's son sniping innocent people. "Oooh thats cool tod" 30 minutes later mother see's car shaking and hears moans. "Oh my! this game is so inappropriate! how dare they!"
maybe when I'm 50+ we'll finally have had M-rated console games with bare-chested sexual activity, and an atheist president...
*sigh*
EDIT: woops! never played God of War (I know, I know) but I hear that has bare-chested ladies. it's still ridiculous that violence is more ok than sexuality in the US.
Games with too much violence and pervert content are just garbage, in my opinion! Brainless as it gets! I would feel dumb, if I would play such games. Thats not smart!
First of all I'm sure the game would have been total crap, but this is about preserving the feel of its source material, and in the end, artistic freedom.
A game where scantily clad girls (no nudity) fight in comic book violence style violence (unsure of blood) gets an M, while the last MKvDC (which did have blood just not much of it) gets a T?
Street Fighter 4 had panty shots too (Chun-Li anyone?)
I think it was an unfair rating, and they could of just released it anyway with an M but potential sales would fall I guess
The censorship system sucks IMO... seems inconsistent, moraly blurry and totally arbitrary in some ways. There should be a new rating if M cannot make it. Something like 666DEATHSEXBLOODGORE, where all the games that are excessively "something" fall. Make that rating 21+ and wrap the game case in black except for the title and Voila, just like porn magazines... Then no one will ever again complain about too much violence, sex or lack of moral / ethics in a game again... is it so hard?
it's called the AO (Adults Only) rating. devs won't really make em though, apparently that would sell even less than an M-rated game. I hear 18-34 males are the largest gaming demographic but somehow an AO rating is 'the kiss of death' for sales.
The only game that I know of that has delivered the all in one package of unison, with planets aligned, Kojimas screaming 50 gigs is not enough from the root tops of cathedrals, is Metal Gear solid 4.
The best asses & breasts in gaming are on MGS4. I bet one of the reasons why 50 gigs was not enough was because the asses and breasts needed more polygons for maximum realism.
This is one of my favorite anime series recently finish watching. Very hot women fighting. I forget one of the lead characters name the one in the blonde was very hot. Too bad our ESRB can't accept or won't let the U.S. sell some hot fight women here in the states. I'm very disapointed that I won't get a chance to play this hot game.
i dunno which to blame the liberal or the conservative. sometimes the liberal ain't that liberal at all when it's come to games, while the conservative doesn't care.
I remember being on VGReleases a while ago (last year probably) scouring the PS2 release calendar and finding this game on the release list. "Shining Dragon? Sounds like an RPG. Better check it out." Boy, was I surprised.
I watched My Bloody Valentine (the remake) last night and that had excessive violence and gore, and quite possibly the most gratutious nude scene in film history (this woman is first in a sex scene, then she's running around outside and running around inside for about ten minutes stark frickin' naked full frontal, back, any which way you can think of). So how come I can see this sort of stuff (actually way, way worse) in movies but in games it's looked down upon as being worse for some reason!
Yes, we want more boobies and less violence now! The world would be a much better place if there was more sex and less violence. Stop banning sh!t like this already, geez!
So let me ask? If its a fighting game an it has people doing moves that should burn cloths off (Like DBZ or Street Fighter) then why doesn't the make it? Less I check DBZ had some shirt less parts an is that wrong? no so what makes this wrong? because people say it is women -_-
You shut up an put it out or stop making other games and why do we get Hentai games if we can't even get this hm?
I'm really confused. Thinking they could release a game based on Ikki Tousen and getting a T was foolish the game would have always gotten a M rating. That's just how it's gonna be. That's that audience for the game. They should just release it in my opinion and see how well it does and research the market.
If I was an Ikkitousen fan I wouldn't buy a censored version, I mean they have taken off the only atractive thing about the game. But that's just me xD
What a shame. We need more nakedness in our games instead of violence.
OMG, that's the best game description I've ever read!
Cookigaki confused. Why not release game with M rating?
pretty ecchi :D
to kill thousands of innocent ppl and have a bj in the car.
