back around GDC Sony mentioned that they where going to change the PS3 logo to make it stand out more. Now, two months later the logo is finally being put to use and some nanobrains think that this means that a PS3 slim is coming. WRONG!!!

A PS3 slim would be a bad thing unless Sony found a very good way to improve airflow dramatically. The PS3 is a mini oven if not properly vented and would suffer catastrophic failure if the casing was simply slimmed up.

Anyway, the new logo is obviously working as planed, seeing how it has already improved public awareness of the PS3 brand. To bad it can't do something for the average attention span.

Microsoft Xbox 3605475d ago (Edited 5475d ago )

That's why they reduce the physical size of the Cell and RSX, thus dramatically decreasing the temperature as well. Ever thought of that? Sony did it with the PS1, and they did it with the PS2. Fan-less systems. Same will happen to the PS3 slim.

They don't use the same parts for the slim design. Get that through your head.

ChozenWoan5475d ago

I know they are reducing the chip size, but I doubt the reduction is enough to justify a ps3 slim. Besides a complete redesign would initially increase the cost of production. If they keep the casing the same and only make a minor change to the motherboard, they can pocket the savings in production or pass them along to us the consumers.

I could be wrong about the possiblity of a ps3 slim, but the new logo really has nothing to do with the prospect of such a product.

Microsoft Xbox 3605475d ago

Physically smaller units also means cheaper shipping and warehouse storage. Going slim is the best move, financially for Sony.

DeadlyFire5475d ago

There will be a PS3 slim. Only time will show you it though. No use arguing with hard headed people. If its at E3 they wooo! I can get a cheaper PS3! If not then I will wait for the $100 drop coming in August-September. Either way PS3 will be getting price drop in 2009 and you will see a slim PS3 before end of 2009/2010.

Bob Dole5475d ago

We're more likely to see a 360-slim than anything.

gamesmaster5474d ago (Edited 5474d ago )

no, we're more likely to see a ps3 slim than 360 slim at this time, sony wants to reduce the cost of ps3 production, redesigning the ps3 and making it slimmer offers massive opportunity to reduce the cost of parts from the case to removing fans. I think this rumor about ps3 slim holds weight. simply because it makes sense for sony. Remember there was the slimmed down PS3 chip board that was revealed at CES in January.

relaunching a cheaper slim ps3 at e3 with the upcoming lineup of games coming will do the PlayStation brand wonders

Bob Dole5474d ago

One would think since MS has had a year head start a slimmed down version of their console would be out before Sony's. But then again we might not see one at all, whereas we're guaranteed to see a slim PS3 eventually.

gamesmaster5474d ago

yeah, i understand what you're saying. I just think for sony, its something of a necessity now, and i'm sure they've been planning this for awhile, what with them constantly redesigning parts in the public eye. sony needs this to make profit on the ps3.

in terms of a slim xbox, i think the xbox is selling pretty solidly. MS wouldn't want to pump even more money into redesigning the xbox (what with the rrod debacle costing enough) i think they're concentrating on the next box rather..

Bob Dole5474d ago

Well if they made a 360 slim that fixed the RROD problem 100% Bob Dole would get one in a heartbeat. He's having Dead Rising withdrawles.

we still in HS were we make fun of each other?

Unbiased15475d ago

It could be that Sev is just using that "logo" thing to tell us that there is actually PS3 slim without braking any NDA....if you see what i am trying to say.

LukaX235475d ago (Edited 5475d ago )

You DO KNOW this article was made so that people don't start having false hope correct?

Sev5475d ago

This article should be approved.

The logo is old. However the PS3 slim is not.

If the author of the logo article was available right now, I would make sure he edited the title properly.

I even approved this article.

The logo is old. However I personally did not post the article. I wouldn't have.

Sadly this is going to make PSLS look like we don't know what we are talking about.

PLASTICA-MAN5475d ago

I also saw the new logo in the trailer of the upcoming DLC for F.E.A.R.2:

Microsoft once tried to nab LittleBigPlanet from Sony after a few drinks

It turns out that many moons ago, Microsoft once had its eye on the Sony published LittleBigPlanet series.

Microsoft had a good idea but fumbled it again.

Project Spark idea was decent but they quickly gave up ..
LBP was wonderful

ApocalypseShadow1d 7h ago

Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.
https://www.playstationlife...

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.

They're scum.

Zachmo18211h ago

Microsoft didn't force MLB on Xbox. MLB gave Sony 2 options either go multiplat or risk losing the license.

Rynxie1h ago

And why do you think MLB said that? I believe Ms approached MLB.

ApocalypseShadow1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Totally ridiculous comment.

The only exclusivity Sony had was to their own creation of The Show. Microsoft could have paid the MLB for the license just like Sony did and made their own baseball game.

Microsoft instead, groomed MLB for years in trying to poach Sony's game and bring it to Xbox. They're worth 3 TRILLION dollars. You think that's not enough money to make their own baseball game? Don't be delusional.

Microsoft spun it like they always do and told the media that they had to trust Sony with their hardware. After they put Sony in that position of not having a choice. Either go multiplatform or stop making one of their successful games. That's a no win scenario.

And what did Microsoft do? They didn't try to sell the game to the Xbox community. They put it on game pass to hurt Sony. Pushing the idea of why buy games that are $70 when you can play them in their cheap service for $10. It was a dirty tactic.

You fell for the Kool aid drink Microsoft served you instead of spitting it out. Hope it tasted good because you were fooled by Phil and the gang.

"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."

Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.

Tody_za14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.

But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?

Inverno13h ago

Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.

Inverno11h ago

They shut down the servers, that's millions of user created levels gone. That and dead are pretty much the same, it's also been years since 3 and they cancelled HUB soooo.
