Alan Wake "First Look" Preview (PlanetXbox360)

yup previews based on the same 2005 info. The fact that remedy is putting so much time into the game is a good sign that they won't settle for mediocrity though. Alan wake should be a good game

You see the same photo's over and over again - nothing new ever comes out. For previews all you get is "Some guy swears he saw a bit of Alan Wake in Northern Canada! Look at this blurry shot from his cell phone!"

There were only 3 games on my 360 that I was looking forward to. Velvet Assassin was one, and based on the reviews I think I'll pass and maybe pick it up used one day, the Halo expansion and Alan Wake.
Until those two are released I don't even have a reason to turn on my 360 this year except I plan to finally go back and finish the Shivering Isles. Man I miss 2007. That was a good time to be a 360 gamer.

remedy is pretty much a team of 20 people not 100. Think about it, killzone 2 was workied on by about 140 people and it still took 4 years to make this great game. Remedy has been working on this game for close to 5 years and have a significantly smaller group. Yes they showed it too early but give them a break.

Im getting alan wake on my pc. i'd love to see some new non 2005 information.

Each and every single preview is based on absolutely nothing. So how again does that make my comment based on nothing, when it points out the fact that all of these previews aren't previews/first looks at all?

I've got the previews memorized since 2005.. "while we know absolutely nothing about the game its going to be a phenomenal gaming experience with bar raising visuals!" rinse and repeat. same exact writeup on 50 different blogs. Based on this i and everyone else could and have literally written the same exact thing and post it as 'news' since thats what the author did.

I know you hate to think that its multiplat, but it is. the 360 isn't more important than the 360 here, especially considering you've only seen PC footage. Don't come at me sideways, you'll just get your feelings hurt.

Alan wake has been speculated to be at e3 every single day of this generation.

This is the first time i've read anything about this game. I always read that something was great about it but the comment were very vague and so this article explained a lot to me.

Sounds like a good game but the being able to "explore 36 square miles plus the country side" makes it sound great. Not that there hasn't been bigger games but with the level of detail they claim it has makes it seem special. The story sounds good too.

I won't be picking up this title whenever it's released as i am a die hard fan of the PS3 and im not into pc gaming but i will say it sounds like a great new ip for you 360, mulitconsole and (possibly) gaming pc owners.

While this game may very well be awesome and I'm sure to buy it if I like what I see when we finally get some more information, I doubt it will sell very well. It's as niche as Heavy Rain. Why should we care about sales? Because more sales means more profit for the developer and the publisher, which in turn means interest in sequels.

If Remedy and Microsoft don't show Alan Wake at E3 2009 I will never buy it. Alan Wake and Gears Of War were the two games I saw when I first got my 360 and I was wowed, like floored. Gears has had two games already come out while Remedy hasn't shown anything really since 2005. If Microsoft and Remedy can't get this game at least SHOWN this year I refuse to pay for the hype machine, it's ludicrous. It should never have been shown in the first place. "Microsoft Exclusive" is a term coined by 360 fanboys to try and make up for the lack of true exclusives on the 360 platform. They also think MS owns the PC platform and MS attains royalties off of all PC games which they don't. Alan wake will be on the PC and the only info has been tech demos on a high end PC. Bottom line is you do not need a 360 to play the game.

IDK. The game seems so interesting, you hear the odd detail every now and then. They'll then confirm it's still in production. You get reminders(like here) of the showing at E3 2005. People want the game.

For me, at least, it's in exactl the same boat as War Devil. I was really impressed by both games way back in 05 and yet the only real "news" I've heard over the past two years about either is that they're still being made. Huxley was going a similar way until it popped up completely chopped in numbers and features this year.

Hopefully both games will turn up all shiny at this years E3 but it's getting a bit bleak seeing news from four years ago on here. Whether I get AW for PC or 360 depends on a couple of things-content and interface. While the PC version is usually better than the 360 visually if it comes a good while later I may be swayed-but if I can avoid the 360 pad AND there are extras on PC then it's a no brainer. Sadly I just can't see both games showing up and given Remedy actually do finish projects I imagine if one does it will, finally, be AW.

Every time I see or hear about this game a few things jump out at me. They always say it will have....

1) Unparalleled graphics
2) Hugh 36 square mile environment

To me that cries out..DATA...lots and lots of 0's and 1's to make the whole world with that much detail.

They also say that we haven't seen much of it sense 2005.

Now this is just speculative question as I have very little actual info on Alan Wake (no one has) but....Alan Wake wouldn't be hampered by a DVD-9 and no standard hard drive would it?

The vision behind Alan Wake is 36 square-miles of an open world that is beautifully rendered in native high definition resolution. That would make it the best looking Xbox 360 game by a mile. In fact, it sounds a bit like Lair. But, Lair cost about 4 GB per level. That's not a problem if you have a hard drive. In 2005, we thought every 360 would have a hard drive, but they don't all have one.

It may be that their vision is too big for the machine. But then it could also be that the staff is a bunch of idiots that is unable to get their business together.

COD 4 & 5 are the games that run even on a PC that is 3 years old with max setting without AA. And i know COD on consoles was like running the entire game on medium settings @ 1280x720. For the kind of requirements of Alan Wake the game is going to run on its medium quality with all tear down setting. Even Intel said that it will make use of quad core CPU's ballz to the 360's Xenon and Xenos!!

Ya as far as I know, we have only seen screenshots and video of the game running on a computer with like 8GB of ram, and an overclocked 7.1 GHz processor, with the top of the line GPU. The game probably won't look much better than Mass Effect 2 on the 360.

pc gaming is dead the last 3 years and imo it will remain dead because the golden era of pcgames have passed and is not going to return.
And this is coming from an ex-hardcore pc gamer who had spent tons of money in upgrades between 1998 and 2006.
My last massive-expensive upgrade was in May 2006 with -among others- a top-end DX9 GPU, with two times the theoritical raw power of Xenos, just to realise during the next year that most games were looking better on my xbox...

So good luck to the remaining high-end pc fans (yes i m talking to all 5 of you, lol) but for the rest of the year i m going to enjoy Alan Wake, Wolfenstein, Splinter Cell:conviction, Dead rising 2, Assasins Creed 2, Mafia 2, Red Dead Redemption, and some expansion packs of my favorite games ONLY on my xbox360.

These are serious questions, i keep hearing about it but with the lack of footage for my 360, its not enough to get me pumped. Seems most of the excitement comes from the fact its only on 360 ( and pc ).

Well, IDK about everybody else, but I'm excited partly because of the mystery and potential but also because of the few details that have crept out about the game.

Like the story that for this game they were designing the inside of every building individually so if you can break in you can go into every building in the game and not find anything repeated. That kind of attention to detail is amazing and if they are trying to pull this off with just the twenty or so employees then(esp if they made an angine as well)then the length of time isn't that shocking-they maybe just showed it too soon.

I'd like to know why someone disagreed with my point. Have they played Alone in the dark: the new nightmare? The flashlight attack idea is not new. Maybe it wasn't completely new in The New Nightmare for all I know but it certainly won't be new in Alan Wake.
