Swine Flu good for gaming in Mexico

Joystiq: As if the rampant window plasticizing and complete blanketing of nighttime news with Swine Flu stories weren't bad enough, USA Today is reporting that Mexicans are flooding markets before a five-day quarantine begins in Mexico. The good news? People are renting games (and, ya know, buying other stuff) by the boatload, with the newspaper reporting "residents are snapping up DVDs, renting video games and stocking up on food."

Better hope it doesn't get as bad in America. >_<

Swine Flu has killed 1100 people so far? In a country with 12 million people? The United States has 1 death. The regular flu has killed 13,000 people so far here in the states. Please. Swine Flu is rubbish. My jock itch is more of a concern than this.

greyfox2355490d ago

its only killed around 150 not 1100 and that 1 person was a kid

BattleAxe5490d ago

Mexico has around 75 million people, and where the Swine Flu is most prevelent in Mexico City they have around 26 million people.

ZuperAmazingCooKie5490d ago

The "Swine Flu" (which is no longer "Swine Flu" as it has mutated into a new form of Human Flu) has hypothetically killed about 150 people, but only 20 have been confirmed to be by this flu. Some say it's not fatal if you get help on time, but considering this is a new illness I wouldn't be so sure, I hope it is though.

Diselage5490d ago

Theres actually like 10 confirmed deaths, fear-mongering at it's best.

socomnick5490d ago

grey fox your part of the problem idiots who get scared of any little disease and cause panic just like joe biden. Swine flu has been found to be much milder than the regular flu that hits us every single year. In fact there are only about 10 confirmed deaths from swine flu according to the World Health Organization, even if it were 100 + people dead from swine flu more thats nothing, more people die from Domestic Abuse in the US in 2 days time than from Swine Flu. Swine Flu is a joke its not even that deadly but people are idiots and love to get scared at any little thing, remember mad cow disease, sars, bird flu, etc.

A Matter Of Trust: What The Game Industry Should Do To Win Gamers Back

Skewed and Reviewed have written an Opinion Piece covering issues in the gaming industry, how current issues were issues years ago, and what can be done to help restore consumer trust.

anast2d ago

Nothing. It's up to the gamers to stop consuming content from companies that they don't agree with.

Garethvk2d ago

How do you know if you agree with it or not unless you play it? Which without conventions forces gamers to rely on trailers. Perhaps Demos should be made more frequently. But companies need to do better as well.

anast2d ago

Wait until release. Watch Gameplay. Exercise patience.

Garethvk2d ago

But is that not what they have now? Tons of gameplay or are you talking about watching actual gamers play it versus the trailers and streams? The big issue is that some companies pay streamers and influencers and they create content but for me; that is hardly a fair, unbiased, and factual look at a game.

1nsomniac2d ago

Get rid of the suits in the industry and job done!!

Garethvk2d ago

They usually are attached to the money sadly. It would be nice to have gamers in charge but you have so much money invested that business people are needed. Hence the issue; you need people who know business but are also gamers who know have an eye to the community. It sounds simple in theory that if you give gamers quality games that they want to play; money will be made. But that is not always so.
