Article introduction: "Trolls - they're the underpass-dwelling cretins you love to hate. In the real world, rudeness can earn you a sock on the jaw, but the anonymity of the net has made aggravation an art form. One cannot help but admire their works; how they stir up bitter arguments, then feign ignorance when their schemes are undone..."
In the very first episode of vs. Node, Eddie Inzauto and Christos Reid talk about swine flu's videogame debut, a flash game that outraged religious groups across the globe, homosexuality in gaming, and headline topic, sandbox games.
Yesterday, Italian game site Molleindustria took down its 1 year old Faith Fighter parody game offline. This was cause by the pressure from the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC). However, less than one day Molleindustria put up a sequel to Faith Fighter.
Gamer Limit writes: "Pursuant to the negative attention drawn by their web-based Faith Fighter, Italian designers at Molleindustria have opted to pull it from their site entirely. Though it hit the net over a year ago, the satirical fighting game was catapulted onto the mainstream radar screen after UK news outlet Metro ran a story on it this past Sunday, citing calls from various religious organizations for its removal.
A representative of the Organization of Islamic Conference's 'Islamophobia Observatory', upon learning of Faith Fighter and its premise, remarked that 'the computer game [is] incendiary in its content and offensive to Muslims and Christians.' "
Did this game really cause such a big stir? I'd never even heard of it until now.
Still, for what little it's worth, I really doubt the developers were trying to send any message with this game.
I got tired of worrying about religion when I realized that each religion pretty much beliefes in the same thing, except they believe in a different story.
All that really matters is that you believe that someone or something created all we see.
It's when people add a name to it and a skin color, etc. that religion becomes something potentially violent.
only racists generalize people.
EDIT
Umm...i didn't call him racist for being against religion, there's nothing wrong with that.
I called him racist for generalizing a group of people.
Examples:
Black people are a bunch of cry babies.
White people are a bunch of cry babies.
Chinese people are a bunch of cry babies.
Haha that's the first time since grade school I've heard someone calling another who's against religion "racist".
i believe the word your after is prejudice...not racist, and only stupid people assume someone who is anti-religious is also racist..if that is what you meant...i hate stupid people and i'm not racist...prejudice maybe..but with good reason, stupid people are stupid
Jesus christ lol he doesn't exist by the way, but seriously people need to stop playing the race card. It seems when someone gets offended now they always go for that sweet race card the ace of spades that overpowers logic and any of the other cards. By the way jrome. Religion does not = race lol. This is clearly and example of why religious people need to step back and get an education. They are blinded by their false sense of faith.
The Qur’an tells us a lot of wonderful things about Jesus. As a result, believers in the Qur’an love Jesus, honour him, and believe in him. In fact, no Muslim can be a Muslim unless he or she believes in Jesus, on whom be peace.
Muhammad in the Bible:

As a Muslim I dont find this offensive because of its level of ignorance. What I find offensive is this article being an open gate for ignorant people to poor there hate.
people will always find something completely inane + pointless to fight over
eg - console wars
But i'd like to see it go too
A world without "religion" would also not exist. Unless you really can go down to a beach and kick around the sand for a billion years and come up with a Rolex watch
Yeh, religion is just their easiest excuse right now.
Without it they would still find reasons.
Kind of like going to iraq for the oi[l]...err i mean Weapons of mass destruction :\
I'm not an atheist if that's what you're implying.
I'm agnostic.
I simply do not know if there is a god or not and don't pretend that I know all the answers.
Now if the worlds religions would quit fighting over who's right and who's wrong, it would be one less thing for the world community to segregate themselves from one another.
@patterson
I'm not trying to pick a fight with you so please don't take what i say the wrong way.
However, according to anthropologists, people will always look for a way to separate themselves as a means of forging an identity.
Its a very interesting field of study and gives u great insights into human behaviour.
EDIT : sorry i did not see ur comment below
No offense taken.
See my post below (#10)
People will find reasons to fight whether it's religion, color of skin, what console you like, etc.. good point. I totally agree.
But it is one less thing. One less MAJOR thing that people will fight over. But that kind of world is impossible. Just thinking utopian.
Islam is a religion with a complete law. Nothing wrong with laws that protect people from themsleves and from others. Its the fight to stop those laws from being applied that causes conflicts. Why do you think the previous divine revelations were altered? Humans want to gamble and lose their houses, drink alcohol and destroy their livers and rape their daughters and be around pigs and share diseases like swine flus.
One day you will know the truth. Death is comming to a place near you.
Dear Mr Sunshine,
If ever i have the urge to be ordered around, i'll join the military and at least get paid for it.
Until then, i'll use my "god-given" intellect to decide sense from non-sense.
If u have found joy in religion then i am happy for you. I have found happiness away from it. Like most parents, i think that that is what god wants more than anything. Stop selling him short by projecting your own insecurities.
@Fat Bastard - You're forgetting the issue of complexity. You're saying that nothing complex can exist without being created. If so then who created "god" who seems to be the most complex entity ever to be imagined.
@WonderboyIII - Wake up. You've been fed a line and you're eating it up. Religion is a lie made up by people who don't know how to explain things and are too lazy to try to figure out how and why things actually are.
Well, religion DID transfer all of our information and got us out of the dark ages by creating many copies of information including creation of the first question mark and the first colon to enlighten people... got us a lot farther.
On Topic. Muhammad and Jesus are allies according to the Quran and Bible. They are all prophets of God. Muhammad spoke well of Jesus. He said he was a prophet of God and spoke of his virtues and his devotion to his people. The old unlatered divine relvelations mentioned Muhammad too and prophecized his arrival to seal the prophets. So in short this game is based on religious ingnorance. I am a muslim and this game does not offend me because of how ignorant it is.
Dear socomnick,
The legal age of marriage in Australia is 16. So let us say a 70 year old man falls in love with a 16 year old and they get married. No one dares to open their mouth about that being wrong, and no one will call him a pedofile. Please note that things 1000-2000 years ago are different than things today. Also think about the different ages of physical maturities in countries where the weather and heat can affect the general process where women get their periods at 8 and 9 years old. Also think about how levels of maturity are related to the level of hardships, wars and social conditions and you will come up with the formula to why men (not just Muhammad) married girls at 10 and 13 years old. Such desert conditions force those conditions were life spans were shortened also. As I said, ignorance is no excuse for hate.
But ignorance is what religion is based on. "Why does this occur?" "Because "god" made it like that."
Religion is the excuse of a primitive mind. One that is not willing or able to find out why things happen. It has been said that science is the enemy of religion and this exactly why. Science strives to find out how and why things occur. Where we came from. How everything works. Even though religion is proven wrong time and again, it is still held on to. Why? Because it is indoctrinated to children at the time in their lives when they are most vulnerable to learning things from their parents. It's child abuse.
I don't have super powers to know if god exists or not. but as a pseudo-anarkist(I even went to collage in Barcelona for a year to take a class with a real anarkist from the spanish civil war days) I preatty much disagree with order through force. But to call it "child abuse"(I think I read that in a book somewhere) is pure genius. People don't seem to connect the dots very well, but that was right on point. Either way Ryu would kick both their as$es
EDIT: found it... It was Berlin in his essey about "negative liberty". Tha's were I read it, thou Nietzshe probably said something similar too.
if you read the quran you well find several thing that quran improvet before science more than 1000 year such as the level of the humen divolpment in his mother woond
the quran sad there war ppl thy are 15 meter long lived on the erth more than 100000 year that the science discovert latry
the quran improve science wrong but thy just ignor what written in the quran becuse if the didnt it well improve thy was wrong and the god are real
@potenquatro - do you believe that teaching children things that aren't true isn't child abuse? Especially if you tell them that if they don't believe it that they'll burn in hell? If you don't consider that child abuse... I don't know..
@anti-gamer - I'm going to go ahead and call hoax on your photographs. Well either that or I'd have to believe in the alien autopsy video tapes that were sold in the 90's too. ;)
There is no god.
My brother-in-law is a muslim from Egypt. He has also told me evrything that you just said. But what you and my brother-in-law blindly fail to realize is that the arabian scientific community was waaaayyyy advanced even before islam even existed. Anybody could have put that type of information in there. Just cause a scientist discovers something in Persia does not mean European scientist automatically adopt it.
It was the arabian scientific community in southern Spain and Italy that helped stimulate the renessance. One of the most prosperous arabian nation to ever exist(in terms of human rights, politics, sciene and culture) was Al-Andaluz in southern Spain, wich was an extremely secular nation(they even gave equal rights to women, jews and cristians)and very focused on scientific advancement.
Islam is a fairly new religion. It doesn't even have a central command to say what is generally right or wrong, so the amount of scientific information available at the time that the Qu'ran was written was very vast. The Qu'ran was written through word of mouth not even historical facts, so to even quote it is a sign of ignorance. Just like quoting the Holy Bible is stupid since the system is corrupt.
Also what's with not letting me show an image of Muhamed????? Doesn't God want us to be free?? Even if it means showing an image of his last prophet???? That fact alone shows many inconsistencies. It would help alot if you ever read a book that's not religion oriented. What you just posted is probably regergitated bullsh!t your parents told you...And their parents told them....And there parents told them ETC. Don't feel bad thou, It's the same with cristian and jewish sicieties. The world is becoming smaller and it's easier to see our reflection on other societies. Don't miss this oportunity, WW3 might break out and we might loose alot.
EDIT: @ Leathersoup; Not at all. I do belive that IT IS child abuse. I said it was genius. No sarcasm. It really is totally undebatedable. I just said WOW cause your post was short and to the point LOL. #1 reason I don't like religion is because they get in the way of my Jesus vs Muhamed gaming LOL. It's not that there is no God, but like Nietzsche said "we killed God, beacuse his policies got in the way of ours"
EDIT: @Leathersoup. I'm the one hitting "agree" on all your psts on this matter
Not sure. He must give the other cheek every time he gets hit.
Double damage
You know there are some religious people in here that will get offended by this
yeah what the hell this world has gone downhill
getting offended by that and all...
The religionist are offended. Pfft... When haven't they been?
Seriously though, if people are offended by this, they need to relax and learn that there are other people on this planet too.
I dont find this offensive, but I dont think this is the place to discuss religion. I have seen many discussions on here dealing with religion that was full of comments coming from people who obviously dont know the first thing about religion, or ever went to church for that matter. Like putting people into groups. When people think of Christianity they think of Catholicism. They believe in two entirely different things. You have Catholicism, because of Rome accepting Christianity, they made it their own. Most of the things they say goes against the teachings of the Bible. And all Muslims dont go around with bombs strapped to their chests either.
can't respect us muslim for a bit it's not like we insult you or something you stupid ass french people ASSHOLE
People who complain about that kind of stuff and want it to be removed are INFERIOR MAGGOTS.
Damnit, you can't ask for something to be removed just because YOU don't like it. It's a discustingly selfish and unreasonable thing to do.
But I have to agree.
Even if my neighbor decides to put a swastika in his window, I don't care. We live in a country that gives us the freedom to do so. I don't care if the guy that lives above me worships Satan. As long as he keeps the chanting down after 10pm. I don't care about the cult people at the airport asking if you want to be their friend. They're actually nice people, if a bit strange.
Religion is the opium of the people...
Though violently put... I also have to agree with you. People that feel no offense for this have the right to play it online too.
I mean, the world had to put up with enough wars, slaughters, persecutions, and abominations in the names of endless gods to have to stand those same religions and their followers to try and ban things... in the gates of the 21st century. I mean... this comes from a religion that ask women to completely cover themselves in public (like there was something wrong with them) and from the medieval inquisitor and the guys that asked Galileo Galilei to retreat from saying the earth was not the center of the world... And believe me... in many aspects, both religions remain pretty much arcaic...
specially things like this, which are foolish, innocent and mean no actual harm to anyone. Don´t like it... don´t play it. Move along... thius won´t make a believer stop believing, or prevent someone from going to mass on sunday...
I'm not a Muslim, I'm just scared for my life and the safety of others. It's not out of respect that I ask whoever is in charge to remove the pic, but out of very real fear that some fanatic nut will declare a fatwa or something like that. On a less terrified note, the world wouldn't really be any different without religion. Since people always find things to fight and argue about, I contend that something else would be as controversial and as highly influential as religion and people would kill each other over it anyways. That's just how humans are. I believe in God and Jesus, but I agree that the fundamentalists and the zealots who go around condemning people to eternal damnation and then offer salvation for MSRP $29.99 are making the rest of us look bad.
The hate between the majority of the countries in the middle east and the western world has nothing to do with religion(at least the major aspects). Read up.
pretty much religion, if you ask me. Chiites and sunites have been fighting over for centuries because of their differences in the interpretation of the coran and the role of the imán, basically...
Damn... I rather had the damn book burnt, along with the bible and have them all shake hands and stop fighting over it all...
Now if that is a way to cover a war for territories rich in oil or whatever else... be it. I think religion is nothing more than a means to control masses, and a good one at achieving its goals, if you ask me. But don´t go saying the problems in the middle east (betweem themselves) and many of the ill fated relations it has had with the western hemisphere have nothing to do with religion.
You cannot expect to separate religion from anything, specially when regarding middle east, where religion is rooted in every aspect of life.
1. Why is Jesus caucasian and with BLONDE HAIR and Muhammad brown and OLD? Both were semitic and read descriptions of Muhammad, before they make drawings of him.
2. Muhammad and Jesus would have no reason to fight, because genetically speaking, they are from the same forefathers AND it's actually impossible for someone to become Muslim if he/she doesn't believe in Jesus.
3. Fracking Italians are bigoted racists.
4. "religious people are stupid, why are they offended by this?"
Religious people see people like Jesus/Muhammad MORE IMPORTANT THAN THEIR OWN MOTHERS.
Imagine if your mother was publicized like that.
"Everyone is a crybaby when it comes to something they believe in."
I agree, just look at those bots, everyday talking bad about the PS3, I guess that's because the FLOPBOX 360 has no GAMES.
The bible was supposed to have been written by moses, but has been confirmed however it is not. It's written by 5different people.
Jesus existed
Muhammad existed
Do i believe who they were - NO. and for good reason.
Ring a bell.
Born of a virgin.
star in the east
3 kings - It's a constellation in the sky. which leads points to the star in the east.
12 disciples
known and lamb of god and many others.
Teacher at 12
baptized at 30
If you look through history, there have been many of these people, from all over the world.
Jesus was no different and no he was not the son of god.
He was chosen because of the alingnment to the stars, just like all the others.
You can believe what you want.
Other things make me laugh the most.
I/e the mafia, known for brutal killings, yet they believed they could walk into church, confess and be forgiven, for supposedly killing god's children, tell me what kind of god would allow this.
You people that believe in religion only do so, because of your parent, their parents and BS you read in made up books.
If there was a god, i think he'd have shown his face by now.
Stop living in the dark ages and step into the 21st century.
The number 12 is about the time of year, i/e december. - xmas.
''Organization of Islamic Conference's Islamophobia Observatory''
Our freedom is dead.
You're not even supposed to have pictures/videos of ANYTHING Muhammad (PBUH)... totally disrespectful. My apologies to all Muslims
And we need to be reminded of our faults and encourages to do good deeds sometimes. If there is no standard, everyone will have their own and conflicts in standards cause the conflicts that may lead to wars problems. When God sent his messengers to remind us of his existence and guide to us how to live our lives allot of men just did not want to follow. See girls are beautiful but access affection to them in a non controlled way has destoryed allot of families. Alcohol has some health bennefits, but when you compare its pros versus its cons, you will end up with understanding that you are much better off not getting near it. Gambling can be fun and winning feels great, but we all know that there is more loss in gambling than winning. Allot of families have lost their securities with gambling. You can think, I can think and all humans can think and we can all have differences in opnion, but a standards that comes form the creator of man, is the best standard to follow for success on Earth and after.
BTW I also wanted to say that blaming all of the world's problems on religion is the same kind of attitude that those people have that blame video games for today's violence.
It is also naive to believe otherwise. The way the world was shaped, specially in the past, had a LOT to do with religion. Be it used as an excuse to drive armies or to forcedly withdraw funds from people, religion has had a BIG part in social disturbance. Higher circles of religious influence have always been close to the centres of power throught history.
It has also played a good role in trying to mend that, specially in most recent eras... and in the case of chistianism, it even recognyzed a good deal of their past errors... (including the incident involving galileo)
I am a non believer, raised in a christian school I learned a good deal of religion and afterwards decided to read on curiosity about other religions in the world. In my opinion, something that has given both good and bad things to the world... but mostly bad...
And all of them existant because of the fact that there will always be unanswered questions...
I would like to ask you matpan specifically what role does religion play in the problems in the middle east. Be it with themselves(Jews and palistinians) and the western world(taliban,al-queada). I assure you the root of the problem is not religion but instead land and resources. I am genuinely asking and hope to keep a good debate.
Well, sure it is resources and land. Religion is just a means to drive those problems... an excuse, a way to justify many of the acts men take. I assure you, in the end, we all fight over food, a roof over our heads and the people we feel something for. The fact is, in many areas of the world, the religion has gotten deeply entangled with these conflicts (they have been going on for well over a couple of thousand of years now...) So why you are partally right, the core problem being resources.. it is but a part of the truth, religion being another (the backstory giving some more sense to this fights)
That´s why I am a non believer.
