IGN Reviews Oblivion for PS3

Ign gave the PS3 version of oblivion a 9.2.

As the successor to the most popular role-playing trove in videogame history, the PlayStation 3 was in dire need of a good RPG. Luckily, Sony's system took only four months to get one as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has finally been completed.

Originally planned as a launch title (and already released to a billion awards on PC and 360 last year), Oblivion is one of the most intimidating games you'll ever find. Enormous doesn't even begin to describe its scale as it dwarfs just about every other competitor in the genre. The number of sidequests and customization options is off the charts and the main quest itself is deep and engaging on its own.

The PS3 version is rated lower because it's out a year later. Just like Fight Night Round 3, which looks far better on PS3. The PS3 version of Oblivion looks and runs better than the 360 one, and includes an expansion. It's better, but it's still a year old game...and that's probably the main reason that it's better in the first place.

"[the PS3 version is a] definite technical improvement over the 360 edition" -from the review.

Dont care what system this game is on. More people should play this fine game. Even better Shivering Isles expansion out very soon.

Apparently they are considering thats what everyone says about Gamespot.

is baised is because you have the same four guys reviewing everything console. And if you have ever seen any of their shows like "on the spot"
or "button mashing" or even their reviews for that matter you'll see that the same bug found on the 360 version are no big deal but they always seem to be a big deal when found on the same game on the PS3. They favor the 360 more and that is something the reviewer themselves let be known when you see some of their shows. Ign on the other hand has a 360 team to review everything 360 and a PS3 to do the same, and a Wii team, to do the same for them. so when they review a game the reader themselves should know that it was done by a follow 360, PS3 or Wii fan, which makes everything they say more valid. On Gamespot the Reviewer who does the review for a PS3 is most likely a 360 fan since 90 percent of their crew are 360 fans. Bash me if you want but I used that site for 6 years straight.

This review was posted ages ago.
And of course the 360 version gets a better score. Even though the ps3 version is slightly better on technical front, ships with more content than the 360 version. Go figure what sites have their c0cks up M$ A$$.

If this is true, I hope it leads to Morrowind getting remade next.

-Foxtrot21d ago

I thought they’d go for Morrowind first to be honest but this is a welcoming surprise to tide us over before ES6

TheColbertinator21d ago

Well said. Exactly my thoughts too.

Tedakin21d ago

Unreal Engine isn't efficient for open world games, so I question the reliability of this story.

isarai21d ago

Yeah, 1st thing that came to my mind too, although i CAN see it being likely for ease if use, but it's not going to run very well if so

Tacoboto21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

I'd wonder if it would just be exploiting Unreal for graphics but the underlying engine/logic is still the original framework.

Like how we had the graphical remakes of Halo Anniversary, Tomb Raider I-III, and Demon's Souls.

Could also end up a disaster like the GTA Trilogy

mkis00721d ago

I have heard that too but even if it's modified isnt arkham knight UE?

Fragslayer20d ago

"remake will run both an Unreal Engine 5 project and the old Oblivion project. For instance, new graphics are rendered in the Unreal Engine 5 project, but most of the gameplay and physics are still done on the original Oblivion engine"

So with this logic it'll run just fine using UE5 tool sets on top of Gamebryo's engine or maybe even Creation Engine, who knows.

Hopefully modders can fix the aged combart in this game if this is true. Enemies leveling up with you broke and defeated the whole purpose of leveling up.

Fragslayer20d ago

Yeah it could use some tuning for sure hence the need for a Remake not a Remaster. I'm surprised it's even a conversation within them group which makes me skeptical it's Oblivion. I wouldn't say they shouldn't level up at all though maybe just a leave them a couple levels behind to appease the masses.
