Play As The Joker In Arkham Asylum PS3

Kotaku: A new advertisement appearing earlier than expected in Sony's PlayStation Home reveals the ability to play as The Joker in PlayStation 3 exclusive challenge levels for Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Several readers sent us in blurry photos of the new sign, which has appeared in various spots throughout the Home service today, featuring a grinning Joker (the best kind) and boasting exclusive challenge levels for the PS3 version in which players will be able to take control of the clown prince of crime. I hopped online and snapped my own shot, but appreciate the efforts of our readers to bring this story to light.

I contacted public relations for the game, who couldn't offer me any details on the exclusive, or whether or not the Xbox 360 version would be getting something similar. In fact, the man I spoke to seemed rather shocked that the ad had already gone up. Whoops.

Batman Arkham Asylum runs the ut3 engine, the thing is 360's never really lost in a UT3 engine based game battle. not even when ps3's version of bioshock came out a whole year later, and not even when mirror's edge was ps3 lead.

(example) that even though tomb raider underworld (360 version got exclusive DLC) ps3's version was actually quite the version to look at, do to the fact that the engine was optimized better for ps3. well, the same thing is going on here, only thing is since epic's engine is being licensed to multiple companies (unlike eidos's engine) it's effecting multiple games, and batman is one of those games that uses UT3 engine.

and yes 360's version is lead, the UT3 runs extremely well on 360, plus the fact that developing for the 360 is a lot faster (giving faster and up and running results), and to top it off that vid clearly shows that the developer has no problems what so ever with showing off that build of batman.

no, DLC deals don't go that way, they're separate matters, 360's version of GTA4 was better looking and it got exclusive DLC.

tomb raider underworld was ONE example that perfectly fit this situation, that's why it was used.

epic is the one behind the engine, and they made the engine work so well with 360 cause they have their star game on the console, and how can you have your star game on the console if it can run worth beans. so naturally epic has to optimize the engine better for 360.

Sony has exclusive rights over the characters, It happen before with Spiderman,
Being that Sony has Spiderman licenses up to 6 movies they can add playable characters like Ha-goblin and etc,...

UTIII was the better version on the PS3; so much so that G4 (if I'm not mistaken) recommended the PS3 version if you had to choose between that and a PC that's not souped up.

I have to say that the 360 version of any Unreal Engine game will generally run better than the PS3.

However, the differences today are negligible.

The game will play just fine on the PS3 with minor differences in a few textures or two.

Quirky fact is that Bioshock ran on a modified version of Unreal Engine 2.5 not Unreal Engine 3.

P.S. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this turns out to be a "good" Batman game.

people...UE3 runs fine now on the PS3...it was back when R6 Vegas came out in early 2007 on the PS3 that there were problems...sony and epic fixed that with UT3...

it breaks down as follows...UE3 on a non Epic, 3rd party title usually means the game has little time in development...and a small budget...this is an area where the 360 comes swinging towards developers with open arms...the 360 is the undisputed king of winning platform battles when it comes to mediocre games that no one should care about...

and even then the 360 still isn't that great at running UE3...didn't ME turn the 360 into a slide projector?...i'm pretty sure IGN said it id...

not saying this batman game might end up being ok...but don't preach about how the 'ps3 can't run UE3'...UT3 proved that it could run ANY UE3 game without a problem (as that is still arguably the best looking UE3 game to date...it definitely has the most shat going on at once and the biggest environments)...but UE3 can almost always be associated with piss poor rushed games that none of us really care about, other than about 4 titles...

Never once in my post did I claim that Microsoft didn't pay for the DLC I cited. If you used your head, you could easily tell that I was "playing the fanboy" and countering #2's idiotic comment. And since when did 360 games have content left out? The only times that has ever happened is when the game was later ported to the PS3, which received additional content. It was never a case of the 360 game not holding the content, it was only that the developers felt they needed to add something so that they could sell the game twice to eager consumers.

Home has about 2 million active users? I think? Anyway a marketing campaign targeting that many potential consumers/ gamers/ that just happens to be, all of the people in Home! is not cheap. But it seems to be very cost efficient in Home.

Nah, I have my doubts about Sony paying for this "Joker" mode. There are already several games where the PS3 version got some additional content to differentiate from xbox's. Perhaps is just Eidos trying to make the whole package more attractive for PS3 owners. I just dont know, inFamous is around the corner, after that we PS3 owners have more exclusives coming, and probably many people (me among them) are ready to skip some multiplats in order to save some money.

Because I have both a 360 and a PS3. I play on both of them, but my habit is the 360, and the PS3 gets turned on when I want to check out the new content in Home or play some PS-exclusive game.

in the DLC complaints from Sony fanboys (note I say fanboys not owners, there's a difference) and your point you just made, you have to realize there's a difference between this Joker exclusive content/DLC, which we don't even know the "cost" of, and an unprecedented value of $50 million just for DLC, on top of Tomb Raider, Fallout, etc...all adding up in just one year. I think the volume and frequency of money being thrown around is the chief complaint, not that any money is being thrown around at all. At least that is what I gather from all my observations...
