GFN: Prototype Preview

Well, they're open world/sandbox games, but I think that's where the similarities end. They both look like fun in their individual ways.

I just find it weird that they are releasing around the same time. Seems to me like Sucker Punch moved up their release date for a reason. inFamous was supposed to come out in July and now all of the sudden it comes out in May. After the Prototype release date was announced. Something fishy there to me.

Prototype was delayed and Infamous went gold. What's fishy about that? Oh wait, you were trying to imply that the real reason why Sucker Punch finished the game sooner is 'cause they're scared of Prototype, am I right? Did you know that Prototype was supposed to be released in 2008 and was pushed back due to development issues? Obviously you did not know that.

In short, if you're done with your game and you've polished the hell out of it, release it. Don't wait, especially when there's competition right around the corner. That's called stupidity.

i personally am mad that they moved up the release date of infamous to may from july. Now i don't have enough time to finish paying off my pre-order that I have been paying off. Guess I'll have to cancel.

but i worked at Vivendi last year, and after GTAIV released, the Prototype devs freaked, and delayed the release. inFamous was always on schedule for a 2009 release.

personally, i think the delay was nothing but GOOD for Prototype, as it looks SOOOO MUCH better now than it did a year ago. if the game had released last year, it wouldn't have faired so well.

i still think inFamous will be the better game (i'm currently playing through the Sly Cooper games from Sucker Punch, and man, they are quite brilliant - i have high hopes for inFamous), but Prototype is a very different game, with a very different tone and feel.

i'm so sick of everything being a VS these days.

more than one game in the same genre can co-exist you know, and they don't ALL have to look, play, and feel exactly the same.

trust me, inFamous has more in common with Sly Cooper than Prototype or Crackdown, and Prototype has more in common with Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, and Hulks: Ulitmate Destruction than inFamous or Crackdown.

you guys need to get out of your close minded, "there can be only one" mindset, and start having fun with games again.

what? do you think that if you bought BOTH inFamous AND Prototype, one would suddenly explode and become unplayable?

PS3 owners get to enjoy BOTH games, that's a great thing.

i'll certainly be giving Prototype a spin, despite the fact that i'm looking forward to inFamous more. hell, the more games i have to play during the generally empty summer months the better, i say.

Way less action and much slower. Plus 1/10 the offerings like vehicles, impressive powers, weapon selection, and combat mechanics.

@3.3 Why would gamers feel left out because they can not choose between two different games when they'll opt for the one with way more offerings anyways? The two games are so similar most gamers will not spend $120 for them.

inFamous has been getting strong buzz from critics for over a year now. There are tons of critics who have played the almost finished version of the game that are praising it and saying it won't disappoint.

inFamous is the PS3 exclusive. This is the game that looks like inFamous but it's multiplatform.

I think a game created exclusively for a console (be it PS3 or 360) will, by it's very nature, be more polished and technically competant than a multiplatform. As such, I'll go for INFAMOUS first.

PROTOTYPE does look a giggle though (and different enough to be worth buying) - I'll get it further down the line when it's reduced.

Both Prototype and Infamous is very similar to one of my favorite games in Crackdown so I'll definitely play them both.

First, I'm not bashing it because it is multiplatform, if you don't believe me then don't, I couldn't care less. Prototype looks extremely repetitive. Seems like your goal is to go ahead and cause mayhem just like in Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.

I'm going to rent it even if it turns out to be AAA.

-Wow, as a gamer this game sounds irresistible. Its funny how alot of dirt has been thrown at this game, "no story", "mindless Hulk game", "will get boring fast" etc; how some have come to these conclusions WITHOUT even playing it, when the vids show so much more potential I don't know, but I definitely have a different impression....lets just hope Radical nails it, if so this game might turn out to be a rare huge hit on both consoles.

Yeah, prototype gets a lot of unwarranted hate.. the only big things I'm worried about are the difficulty and repetitiveness (if that's a word).

One thing I really like is how fluid the running is. I also hope the city is varied and not just generic skyscraper after generic skyscraper.

you realise that theres a 6 month wait for AC2? Are you saying youre not going to pick anything cos you need to muster together a whole 10 bucks a month? And please dont compare Destroy all humans with Hulk:UD, the last gen game not the recent movie-based game is the one youre talking about, right? You start off failry weak with only 2 or 3 combos, but as you progress you unlock incredible about of gameplay options and genuinly fun challenges.
what was it that scarred you about that game? Its one of my favourite sandboxes, so im just curious why you found it so bad

When it was called Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Seriously, just look at the videos. Go rent/buy the Hulk game and pick up a car and it is the same animation and everything that is in Prototype. They also have the same moves like the elbow drop from the sky and just like the Hulk game you will probably have to earn different moves in Prototype. Prototype really is a rehash and if you want to try it early then just play the Hulk game cause it will play about the same as Prototype anyways.

wow, its amazing how you made that deduction! I guess since it takes after a successful and critically applauded game (8.6 at ign and metacritic), this makes everything ive enjoyed so far with Prototype just plain bad, right?

Because its very similar to their previous effort, it makes this game some how not worth getting? Jeez, since i have already played GTA3, i shouldnt bother with GTA4 right? same city, same developer, same everything right? I shouldnt bother with Gears 2 if i have Gears 1, right? God of War 3, why? ive played the first two. Yes, prototype has taken Hulk:UD's great gameplay but they applied their own intriguing setting and storyline, which is a hell of a lot more innovative than most sequels being ofered up these days.

If Infamous is so GOOD then why do people like you attack a title if it lacks more, you're setting yourself to seem as if you know this title will do great. And you hate knowing it. Because everyone praises mediocre games right? I just think it's funny that people are excited for a rehash. I never said anything about Infamous being better as that is common knowledge and not something that I have to point out. So because you bash a game it means you think that the game will do better? Wow, Vampire Rain must have got perfect 10 ratings on all of the major websites if that's true. But, it didn't. I just like pointing out how the 360 has no games this year and the only thing the xbots are excited about is DLC, multiplatform games, and netflix. XD

I don't see the point in calling a title mediocre when you have not even tried it. And from you beyond I meant for a majority of people who seem to hate on titles just because it does not live up to success in their eyes. And yet always into the end compare two titles just based on small elements. I honestly never gave two squirts a piss about exclusives. I've always enjoyed multiplats more. Exclusives have a 50/50 chance of becoming a over hyped bombshell of a train wreck. Same can be said for some multiplat titles as well. But like I said generalizing is a suicide move.

Until then I suggest at least wait for the Demo. Which I believe will come out in may.

but i don't gain anything by lying on the internet, so you can take what i say as truth, or with a grain of salt as you see fit.

the truth of the matter is that, back in April of last year, Prototype was looking rather decent. the devs were proud of their work, and the game was inching closer to it's summer release.

then, GTAIV hit, and they had to take an honest, objective look at what they had created and say, "you know what, we aren't ready yet."

and they WEREN'T. think what you will about GTAIV, but it is still, without a doubt, the most detailed, polished sandbox game available at the moment.

Prototype was very bland, and literally felt like Spider-Man with a new skin. the city didn't have much character or atmosphere, with the typical super clean streets with no level of dirt, grime, or realism that generally sells a game environment to the player.

from what i've seen of Prototype NOW, it has addressed nearly ALL of those issues, and looks infinitely better than it did a year ago.

like i said, the delay has done NOTHING but good things for Prototype. it's only a coincidence that inFamous happens to be finished and ready for release around the same time.

the games are so fundamentally different in everything from story, characters, graphics, environments, and gameplay that i don't see why people can't let EITHER game just be what the f*ck they are, and enjoy the one they find interesting.

i happen to find both interesting, so i'll more than likely enjoy both, i just thought i'd share a little insight into why Prototype was delayed, and why i think the finished product NOW is very much more in line with what the developers WANTED to do with the game than what Prototype was a YEAR AGO.

Most of the things you said was common knowlegde...I thought everybody knew Prototype was delayed, maybe like me they didn't know it had anything to do with GTAIV though, but either way obviously they weren't happy with the product yet...so thankfully it looks as if it the decision to delay it paid off.

As for the release dates of both, I think its inevitable that there would be speculation that inFamous was moved up because of Prototype because even with the Prototype delay both games recently had already announced release dates, and then inFamous was changed to an earlier date. Whatever you want to call that descision, I think it was a "smart" move to at least give two games in the same genre, on the same platform some seperation between releases dates. Now truthfully in terms of such a small release window, ultimately they will still compete with each other somewhat for a few ps3 owners who *might choose 1 or the other, but either way some seperation is better than none at all.

It's natural for gamers to compare similiar games but when its done in a manner to degrade the other SIMPLY FOR THE PURPOSE OF BASHING 1 or the other then clearly I think thats BS. Hopefully gamers who can afford it, WILL LIKE THEM BOTH and those who can't should just buy the one they want the most.

So many people are bashing on both Infamous and Prototype its sickening. Ill be getting both games, cause if I want a quick rampage through a city I'll play Prototype. Thats its appeal. As slow and boring as some people on this site (why dis) say Infamous is, it looks good.

PS3 owners get both or rent both.

360 owners get Prototype and ask to play Infamous on your mates PS3.
