Playstation 3 has best exclusives

The Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 each have important titles, but which one has better exclusives? Both can lay claim to a fair share of AAA games, but one definitely has the edge over the other. So which lineup is stronger? Which one will give you more bang for your hard earned dollar? Let's start by taking a look at the biggest exclusives for each console.

I should report this as Not Newsworthy, because everyone knows this!

Haha... j/k.

SullyDrake5486d ago

I thought it was common knowledge by now?

chrisnick5486d ago

sony just steam rolled the 360 last year and just kept it pushing....more games, more AAA exclusives....(more money out of my pocket...man im gonna be super broke)

InfectedDK5486d ago

The only 360 exclusive in that list I actually have to admit I would really like on the PS3 is Fable 2. But that is the only game. I don't want to buy a new console that gets old too quick with a big failure rate and expensive online play. So I guess I'll survive without Fable 2 with the massive PS3 exclusive lineup available right now and the upcoming. Nothing, I mean nothing can surpase the PS3 exclusive lineup.

Ghoul5486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

allthough i do agree that sofar sony has the better upcoming portoflio of exclusives.

BUT

i wouldnt call out ms as the looser as long as E³ isnt over. ms showed pretty much nothing last year the chances that they come up with several new games is much likely.

couse sofar nintendo has the worst exclusive, they may have tons of em (wiimote bound) but most of them are really really bad.

heroicjanitor5486d ago

I think it is extremely unlikely that microsoft has many big games, they might have 2 or 3 decent ones though there is no way Microsoft could have kept any BIG games hidden this long, and certainly not as many as Sony have already announced/will announce.

velcry5486d ago

Guys. Look through my comments and you'll see that I've always been slightly critical of Xbox, and slightly more supportive of PS3.

But this article made me a bit sick inside. Yes, I should have been happy that there was a "pro-PS3" article, but this is not the way to do it.

1. Author says Xbox exclusives are all the same, PS3's have more variety - dear author, don't set an artificially small pool of games, and don't just focus on explaining the PS3 side of things. A Gears experience is very different from a Left4Dead experience.

2. Author says Sony's casual games are much "fresher", better than Xbox's - dear author, you forgot to mention how SingStar has lousy support in the US, how Buzz is not exactly for everyone. Remember a little thing called the Wii?

3. Author says that PS3's capabilities (Blu-ray space, "obvious power") make it better than the Xbox - dear author, not all developers can or want to take advantage of that, and it is too easy to dismiss the Xbox as technically inferior. It's not that simple a debate.

Please. To all blog writers, or pseudo-journalists. If you can't keep yourself distanced, and can't see things objectively, you will reveal your bias simply through the stuff you write.

FlameBaitGod5486d ago

Didn't need an article 2 tell me this, its just obvious, and who ever disagrees is just a 360 fan boy

Snatcher5486d ago

It's all about the taste. If you like Halo 3 and Gears 2, go for the 360. If you like Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4 go for the PS3. There is no such thing as ''the best exclusives''. It's just what game you prefer.

Einhander5486d ago

Whether they're the best or not is debatable but i sure as hell like em a lot more than what other consoles offer

ultimolu5486d ago

No doubt.

Now, to move my lazy butt and finish beat them...>.>

CaseyRyback_CPO5486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

or don't say peep. just hit disagree in frustration because you purchased the wrong console, dont worry that price drop is coming soon. you too can enjoy current/new AAA's one day.

JokesOnYou5486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

Well OK, I thought his list was pretty damm good and alot better than ps3 list just add Forza2:

Halo 3 (I'm huge Halo fan, depth/gameplay/multiplayer=unm atched)
Gears of War 1 & 2 (love the in your face style action, badass shooter)
Left 4 Dead (great team online game+ free new DLC is fckin sweet)
Mass Effect (1 of my top 3 games this gen on any console)
Fable 2 (really different game, story keeps getting interesting)
Crackdown (all out fun, raise hell, kickass co-op style too)
Forza2 (best driving game, the physics are unbeatable, especial with a wheel)

Metal Gear Solid 4 (one of my fav franchises, although for me the cutscenes take me out of the game)
Killzone 2 (great game I own it, still I wish GG had blew me away with something fresh)
Little Big Planet (own it, was good for a few hrs, not my thing)
Valkyria Chronicles (don't like jrpg's, just like I didn't list SO4 which alot of people liked on 360)
Uncharted (good game, not anything special for me, lacks replay value)
Ratchet and Clank (solid game)

Now obviously I'll get alot of disagrees on this site but thats why we game for ourselves and I know which games I prefer= 360 is a beast so I have a hard time taking him seriously when he says 360 lacks variety. Also I like that even with multiplats micro has a way of getting exclusive DLC for big games such as Fallout and GTA franchises, that plus the online community is a big reason I think micro still has a big game advantage that me and most of the folks I know love= and its more than "mine is better than yours" talk; alot of 360 folks actually GO BUY THEM, whats even more strange is they play them too. lol

JOY

edit: NO Casey, I'm talking about games that are exclusive to consoles, all I said about GTA and Fallout was that getting some extra content is also a bonus for the 360 owners, now if you're talking about PC thats fine but evidently the bulk of the sales favor 360 which mean ultimately those games are pushing the 360 sales, which is why every site even this "blog" refers to them as exclusive to 360 because THEY ARE NOT ON PS3, so for those looking to choose a console based on its library those games help 360 sell. If you're truly a pc/ps3 guy then at least micro is selling something to the competition who would otherwise be just buying ps3 games, so hopefully you'll start buying MORE pc versions of 360 games so you can help micro at least sell half of what the do on 360. Everybody wins. btw save the sales rant, I could easily pull last year this time n4g npd sales posts with plenty of sony folks comments about how its over for micro because of a small sales lead.

CaseyRyback_CPO5486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

In a conversation of exclusives.
360 has good games, but not more exclusives. Let me know when Ps3 sales has anything to do with having more quality AAA titles being released and planned to release in the future. No 360 owners bought Lips or Banjo, thats for sure. But does it matter? Nope because rare is still going to pump out titles.

One day you'll understand that games are selling fine, minus 30 million dollar ad campaigns with full cgi commercials running 247. I think Jaffe said it best when talking about PS3 exclusives/working with them. Sure you can make a multiplat that will sell better, but you're going to have a better exclusive product/challenge. And that trickles down to gameplay experiences. You want to talk sales, but you want to ignore the fact that the PS3 still has a higher attach ratio, which used to be important around here until sony started leading.

I'm sure 360 owners enjoy DLC in lieu of any actual games, just like im sure you are going to enjoy paying to unlock more content that is already shipped on the dvd disc in the future. I'd imagine that if the 360 did release a variety multitude of titles, you wouldn't have the starvation factor of nothing to play, so why not buy X. We will never know though.

PS3 owners enjoy those same good games as well, and second to none exclusives. Which is what gaming was about a few years ago.

edit:

joy,

There is no such thing as "buh buh exclusive to console" You dont see PS3 folk running around yelling about the Agency being a console "Exclusive"!, nor is anyone on the Ps3 fence every trying to reinvent the definition of 1 to 2.Which has been the term for years. Pc owners dont say "oo we've got all these exclusive to Pc games" either, and you know that.

Always seems to be the 360 side. Again, the only reason you'd get a disagree is because you're talking about multiplatform titles. One day exclusive might mean... multiplatform, but not today, and not in the past.

The whole ms still gets money argument is tired. Its obvious, but has nothing to do with justifying redefining multiplatform as exclusive. IGN doesn't call multiplats exclusive, neither does Gamespot, Times, but you're right. xboxkings.com does list Pc/360 titles as exclusive.

Can't have your cake and eat it too im afraid. your list has multiplatforms, simple as that. despite of what it does, or who may benefit, im playing L4d on my 5 year old PC still. And those sales dont seem to help Ms's game divisions that they have been shutting down.

@ sales talk and last year. Trolls will be trolls, are they the law that binds you? Since when is what they say poignant? Dont' get distracted by what naism said, and stick to the fact that you're listing multiple platform titles as exclusives to refute the story. One of these things has absolutely nothing to do with anything. Stick to what you're talking about and stop trying to hide behind other arguments. I told you why you'd get disagrees, simple as that.

-- and you're not even getting that many disagrees :)

Snatcher5486d ago

You just said positive things about the 360 games, nothing negative. While you mentioned a lot of negative for the PS3 games.

You are obviously a fanboy.

Halo 3 - Bad campaign compared to the first one, good online though.

Gears 2 - Great game, but it had problems online at release.

Left4Dead - How can you like this game? It s*cks completely ass. Very basic weapons used for uninspiring shooting action. Very old graphics engine and sound engine. Little monsters in the game in my opinion, and the campaign is horrible. Mediocre I say.

Mass Effect - Awesome games, can't think of anything negative about it.

Fable II - This game also is mediocre in my opinion. The combat system is repetitive and easy to manipulate. The sidequest are not fun, and there are too many of them. The choices have little impact on actual gameplay which dissapoints me.

Crackdown - Nothing to say about this one really.

Forza Motorsport 2 - Great game, have nothing really negative to say.

JokesOnYou5486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

You totally misunderstand the point of my post. It was NOT to say that I found no faults in those 360 games, it WAS to show that first those are some of the best 360 games and generally WHY I liked them more so than the competition.

As for the ps3 list it was to once again show what are considered generaly the best ps3 games and what I generaly didn't like about them, NOTICE I was over-generalizing for the sake of keeping it short, actually those are great games in their own right, I thought it was clear with my approach that I was trying to differentiate WHY its possible someone may not think they are as great as some believe, just as YOU did for a few 360 games, I disagree but I can't say you're wrong. I do however have gripes about most games whether it be ps3 or 360 but I was just trying to say that my overall general impression of both consoles BEST GAMES was that for my tastes it was the 360. Which means we all have a different opinion and it will never be anymore than just that= OPINIONS, just like this "blog". IF having a different opinion than YOU or the AUTHOR makes me a fanboy then so be it. lol

@Casey, yes you may enjoy L4D on your 5 yr PC but the numbers show that YOU ARE NOT THE NORM, so therefore its valid to say that although micro has a dual strategy THESE GAMES SELL THE 360 SIGNIFICANTLY, *IF* in fact 360 hardware sales were decreasing YOY like sony for the last 5 mo, along with lower 360 software sales while PC software sales of the SAME GAME WERE GROWING *THEN*, I could not and would not say that YOU being able to buy the game on PC IS IRREVELANT to its importance for 360, because it would then show a negative trend for the 360, but since its obviously NOT THE CASE those games INDEED PROVIDE HUGE INCENTIVE TO OWN A 360 for MOST GAMERS, lol even higher sales without having ALOT of "true" exclusives is impressive for a console.

JOY

"You cant speculate on what MS's bullet proof strategy is, neither can I"
-Surely I can, I didn't say it was "bullet proof" but either way you don't survive against a brand that dominated the market last gen by accident. So whether you like it or not whatever you call those 360 games that are NOT of ps3 they ARE playing a big part in its success. Obviously we simply disagree about many things, so you believe what you will and of course I continue to do so, Good day sir.

CaseyRyback_CPO5486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

none of this still has anything to do with your 360 list of exclusives.. including multiplatform titles. And I've commented already on why I brought up l4d.

Which is what you can't seem to get your head wrapped around. ;-). You cant speculate on what MS's bullet proof strategy is, neither can I. What I can do is point out that multiplatform isn't exclusive. which is the topic of the article. Sure you can pretend MS has some amazing strategy outside of starting early throwing out a few games and buying DLC.. but I'd say thats not the topic.

L4D is a multiplatform title. Not a "console exclusive" its not on the PS3. So when you compare Exclusives vs Exclusives, you cant really list multiplats. Which is why your list is not only old, but proving the point that the PS3 has better exclusives by all measurable industry standards as far as quality is concerned.

you're arguing about sales with no one. just fyi.

FlameBaitGod5486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

I use to watch your comments cus i would laugh but man, you write to much crap, Ima have to put u on ignore list. Ill remember all those funny jokes you use to post 4 ever bro. RIP

Have fun playing with game sales instead of the actual games!

CaseyRyback_CPO5486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

Ps3 has better exclusives. The 360 has less. You can try your hardest to spin that into something else, or change the subject into whether or not multiplatform games are financially successful, but I'm not going to go along with it. I commend your efforts, but you've just derailed into the typical response of, teh Saeellees! Same thing when graphical topics come up "buh buh teh core gameplay!" Yes, sales are important, and yes gameplay is important, but no one is arguing that one is of severely greater importance than the other, and thats the argument you're going after. The one no one made.

MS/360 Fans have created the made up title of "Exclusive to Pc and 360 and not on Ps3!" While the rest of the gaming world sticks to the normal titles for games. It needs to be addressed, especially when you try to debate my claim using multiplatform titles.

So again, if you think that the 360 has more exclusive titles. Feel free to list them.

Perjoss5486d ago

"Thats a fact"

in reality, it's just a matter of opinion, like most things in life.

Lifendz5486d ago

I know a lot of 360 owners that would disagree.

I've shown these people MGS4, LBP, R2, KZ2, and Uncharted and all I got was a "meh....nothing looks better than Gears 2."

you're just not going to win this argument because so many are fanboys.

Jaces5485d ago

Why bother to convince fanboys when you obviously know its all for naught.

Just like JOY, no point in convincing him. His opinion is his alone like so many others out there. Here let me show you:

Halo 3 (Great online but mediocre campaign, brings nothing fresh to the genre)
Gears of War 1 & 2 (Really intense games, online was gimped a bit)
Left 4 Dead (Pretty fun, only if you have online though. Other than that there isn't much replay value)
Mass Effect (Solid Game)
Fable 2 (Found a lot of glitches and nothing changed from the first one to much)
Crackdown (neat game, nothing special though)
Forza2 (Was cool for awhile but it's just not my thing)

Metal Gear Solid 4 (one of my fav franchises of all time, the cutscenes blew me away, epic story, gameplay was phenomenal)
Killzone 2 (Awesome game, story was meh at best, unmatched graphics seen on any console. Online is addictive as hell and extremely well done.)
Little Big Planet (You wanted something fresh, here it is. Great game to play with friends online, endless hours of fun and always new levels to be played.)
Valkyria Chronicles (don't like jrpg's, just like I didn't list SO4 which alot of people liked on 360)
Uncharted (Fantastic game, totally blew Lara Croft out of the water. Graphics were best I've seen, story was intriguing, characters were very well done, and the gun fights and melee were extremely fun)
Ratchet and Clank (It's like playing a pixar movie, cept with guns. Just one of the funnest platformers I've played in a good while.)

See what I did there. Opinions are what counts.

Aquanox5485d ago

Why is the guy including Valkyre Profile and ignore the Mistwalker/NAMCO titles exclusive to the Xbox 360?

Why is he including Uncharted and ignoring titles from developer RARE, or Lost Planet which falls in a similar category?

Sure the PS3 has a solid first party line-up, but so does the Xbox 360. Also, this year is looking better in terms of variety. Alan Wake is a survival horror game, Splinter Cell is an stealth game and HALO ODST looks like it will be a tactital shooter instead of a FPS and I still see likely to have Forza 3 unveiled at this E3, an excellent racing game.

RARE is likely to release either a fighting game (Killer Instinct) or a FPS, and lets not forget Halo Wars, which is an RTS, something the PS3 library is currently thing of.

So, so far we have as exclusives:

RPGs, both Western and Japanese. (Mass Effect, Fable, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Start Ocean)
RTS (C&C Red Alert - timed - , Halo Wars)
Racing - Forza Motorsport, PGR
Fighting - Probably Killer Instinct 3
Shooters: Halo, Gears of War, Lost Planet
Karaoke: Lips
Kids/Others: Banjo Kazooie, Viva Piñata.
Stealth: Splinter Cell V
Survival: Alan Wake

I believe the Xbox 360 library has a lot of variety most of which are high profile titles. The problem is mainly that the highest selling games - hence the best known - tend to be shooters, but it doesn't mean that there are not other excellent titles in different genres.

JokesOnYou5485d ago (Edited 5485d ago )

@ Casey, Yes you're right multiplats and games NOT on PC are indeed a big part of micro's success...thats what I've been saying, all you have been trying to do with suggesting that I NOT talk about them in a exclusive discussion is try to downplay their importance and my whole point from the start was they are a big consideration towards 360 success, WHETHER THEY ARE PC/360 GAME OR NOT they have been performing the same or in many cases better in terms of doing exactly what the ps3 exclusives are designed to do= THEY SELL THE PLATFORM, so its highly revelant to this conversation. Also again quit with the sales tantrum's, why does it bother you so much that these games that 360 owners claim to be really good, also sell very well? I don't see why referencing the sales #'s is "playing sales" NOW, especially when I look at older posts of better ps #'s and it seems to be cause for celebration and wild claims of 360's fall, magicaly then sales seem to mean everything. Of course sales aren't the "whole picture" but you cannot simply pick 'n choose when they matter and when they dont...AND most of all try to silence me because NOW you would rather not talk about them.

@Flamebaitgod, I would prefer that YOU and others like you who can NOT stomach a difference of opinion to ignore me, that way I won't ever need to listen to your childish responses to my comments again, oh no! what will I do without you? oh wait I forgot you're ignoring me, great.

@Lifendz, yes I agree it is subjective, many gamers I know still think Gears looks the best, I disagree with all the time, KZ2 looks better definitely but I do say its close imo. I disagree that this alone makes them or me fanboys.

@Jaces while I don't agree totally with how you see those games. I can completely understand thats the experience you may have taken away from them, mine is different but why am I wrong and you're right...whether you believe me or NOT I can tell you with certainty that Halo3's campaign was much more enjoyable experience for me than KZ2's, the weapons, vehicles, enemies, story all much better (imo) and thats even before we discuss the gameplay and how many times I ran through the campaign with friends= Its not even close for me BUT I respect that you're just not feelin' Halo too much, so be it.

@Aquanox, in the words of the wise Lifendz:
"you're just not going to win this argument because so many are fanboys." -lol, you are so right Lifendz

JOY

vvvvJaces thats cool, and I also think you would be amazed to know that I actually try to convince friends who don't own a ps3 to get one, despite how some of you guys try to label me, I dont hate the ps3, I do however like to counter alot of the BS I think is unfairly thrown on the 360, so sure I might not swear to them the ps3 is "teh best ever" but I always recommend they get one.

Jaces5485d ago

I never intended to be right or wrong about anything. Just giving you my opinions on games just as you did.

Don't know why people take advice from others about some games that they didn't "feel" and not give it a chance at the very least. For instance Halo, I had a friend who never tried it out mainly due to his Sony loyalism, short end of the stick was that after a couple days of badgering him he ended up playing it, damn near starved himself.

Amazing eh? haha.

It's all a matter of taste and the experience taken out of it.

pain777pas5485d ago

This is going to become even more apparent this year though I will go out on a limb and state that KZ2 will not be the GOTY this year it will be either Bioshock 2 or Heavy Rain if it ships.

aldesko5485d ago

The article is clearly looking at the BEST exclusives on both consoles, not ALL the exclusives. This is why it doesn't include the RARE games (which are decent, but not for everyone). You've clearly never played Valkyria Chronicles (not Valkyre Profile) since it's nothing like ToV, any Mistwalker game, or any other PS3/360 game for that matter.

phosphor1125485d ago

HUR DUR NUR FNUR

Stop arguing about the games and play them. Right now, I'm playing my 2600 (pitfall) and I'm f*ckin enjoying it...well..its p*ssin me off now. That damn monkey always kills me!!

What will you think Microsoft will announce this E3?? Microsoft better have something up their sleeves or they shouldn't attended this year E3 at all..

I_am_rushin5486d ago

The point is that if they do announce something at E3 what are the chances that it will be released this year?

KingKionic 5486d ago

I know for sure ms will show at least something xbox 360 owners will be happy for.

IcarusOne5485d ago

Honestly, it doesn't really matter what MS does at E3 because they're still competing with Sony - even without exclusives. Still have yet to see an NPD that doesn't list MS ahead. And let's not forget the 10 million console lead the 360 already has over PS3.

As for the article, here's a gem from the wordsmith: "Where I think the Playstation 3 really separates itself, however, is with its exclusive games that no one ever talks about."

Maybe they never talk about them because they're not very good.

PS3 exclusives
1. Heavy Rain - Yes
2. L.A.Noire (maybe 2009) - Yes

6. God of War 3 (maybe 2009) - Yes
7. Prototype
8. M.A.G - Yes

10. Final Fantasy Versus XIII - Yes
11. White Knight Chronicles - Yes
12. Yakuza 3 - Yes

just a quick list from a google search.
Yes, it is a matter of opinion.

-EvoAnubis-5486d ago

You might want to start fact checking your google searches. I'll point out the most glaring error, and you can sort the rest out.

Prototype, which you have listed as a PS3 exclusive, is multi-plat, and has been multi-plat since the games inception.

Ausbo5486d ago

it is opinion. I like rpgs and shooters so i prefer the 360 but other people think the ps3 has the the better. I respect the ps3 and i believe it has a better upcoming lineup than the 360 but i don't respect fanboys like JoY and especially Casey Rybackps3d**krider.

i remember the 360 fanboys talking (at the launch of ps3):ps3 has no games, it sucks!
wrong!!!now the ps3 also has better exclusives, so why buy a 360?
honestly...

Mindboggle5486d ago

Because its cheap. Thats the only reason its selling...

ottoenie5486d ago

that's right, it's for the people who can't afford a high end console, it's as simple as that, if you pay more, you get more.
i know i am a fanboy, but i have reasons to be one: i want the best console, and not one that breaks in 2 weeks, and where you have to say after half an hour of gaming: aah i have to stop gaming, or else the console gets too hot, and it will probably break!
i don't want a console that scratches discs!
i don't want a console that sounds like a friggin vacuum cleaner!
i want a reliable console with good exclusives!
reasons enough!
btw: i, and many other ps3 users, can name alot of reasons why the ps3 is the console to choose over the 360.

ultimolu5486d ago

B-B-B-But it's just a bluray playa!

And boom! There goes the dynamite.

Curse you Sony. You want me to rob a bank now?!

Einhander5486d ago

Why buy a 360? Really? You can play all of the great 360/ps3 multiplat titles for HALF the price, most multiplats look equal to or better than its ps3 counterpart, it has a much larger library of games than the ps3 since it released a year earlier, more highly rated games than any other console, etc...

I only own a ps3 and am more than satisfied with it, heck i dont even want to buy a 360 atm, but theres no way im about to say the ps3 has better games than 360, exclusive or not.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies2d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken2d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing693d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker3d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt2d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken2d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

Most Offensive Video Games That Would Never Cut It Today

Times are changing, and these games would have never been made in today's climate.

Every single time someone uses this phrase whether it's music, movies, books, comics, video games, etc it's always the same claim.

The ubiquitous "they" won't allow it to be made. And every decade these claims are made the claimant completely ignores all the "offensive" material that is published when the claim is made.

In ten years, you can write a new article about how you can't make games like Helldivers 2, Resident Evil VIII, Mortal Kombat I, Dragon's Dogma 2, Alan Wake 2 etc etc etc any more.

MrBaskerville40d ago

Yeah, people wouldn't be constantly outraged if there weren't games that people found enraging. The whole SBI discourse shit wouldn't be a thing if all games were inoffensive. A game like Starfield can make a guy froth at his mouth, so there will always be room for a list like this.

0hMyGandhi39d ago

Normally, I'd be inclined to agree with you, but there are massive caveats.
TV shows like Venture Bros, Ren and Stimpy, and Aqua Team wouldn't/couldn't be made today. Hell, Ren and Stimpy was a *children's* show, same thing with Rocko's Modern Life.

It's not for some arbitrary reason, either. It's branding and IP alignment. Companies are far more risk-averse than they were when I was kid in the 90's. Of course, you have companies coming out of the woodwork to hell spur on similar content, but remember: Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon and some incredibly provocative material.

And for movies? it's pretty obvious. American Pie/Wedding Crashers/Eurotrip among many other "raunch coms" have fallen out of style, and are absolutely outside what the modern day film industry is willing to stand by.
Ace Ventura 1 and 2, Dumb and Dumber, Freddy Got Fingered, Rat Race, Harold and Kumar, and Van Wilder follow suit.

Remember: I am not explicitly talking about films put onto streamers. I am talking wide-releases in actual theaters. Same thing goes for games: Carmageddon, Duke Nukem, Manhunt, Six Days In Fallujah (with their original concept), Hatred, and so on and so forth. Of course, I'd be inclined to mention most tactical shooters like Rainbow Six and Joint Ops as well, due to cultural sensitivity regarding *who* you are shooting and why.

And not all of it is bad (obviously). Tastes change, and perspectives change to fit the demographic.
I should add that I'm a lefty, living in L.A. Working in film.

thorstein39d ago

The Boys, Invincible, Jojo Rabbit, Deadpool, Gen V, Last of Us, Banshee... There are plenty of media being made today that people will claim "can't be made today".

Profchaos39d ago

Yeah but if you consider manhunt which was basically a snuff film could you seriously make that game with high than PS2 era graphics.

thorstein39d ago

The Outlast Trials just came out.

But the storyline of Manhunt was that you were executed. But then lived. And if you didn't do as you were told, you'd die. And the people you killed were not innocents.

It was all filmed by a psychopath.

As we speak GTA VI is being finished up for a release. You get to play a Bonnie and Clyde type of protagonist who run up against the law.

Bodycam looks so real.

People are making those games. Articles like this will always exist no matter how incorrect they are, no matter how many times they blame "them" for whatever it is "they" do to prevent "those" games from being made.

Number1TailzFan40d ago

The UK is the biggest junk country pandering to that nonsense as well, with laws against free speech and expression to match. It got so bad even Rowan Atkinson made a video on free speech about it.

Now the UK raises the age rating on harmless films like Mary Poppins, it's just a load of pansy weak ass nonsense.

MrDead39d ago (Edited 39d ago )

The right wing Tories have been in power in the UK for the 14 years you know the ones that are "anti-woke", blame them for your perceptions.

Killer2020UK39d ago (Edited 39d ago )

Are these snowflakes in the room with us now?

This is more faux outrage designed to get hits. The consequences are unfortunately creating hysteria amongst those willing to buy into it and blame "them" or "the left" or "liberals" meanwhile the left are kicking off about genocide, actual real world abhorrent acts. Nobody is campaigning to censor this shit.

Huey_My_D_Long39d ago

Not too mention the fact that some of these game are controversial for you know, underage porn and encouraging rape.

So either the guy just came in to comment snowflakes without reading anything, or he is calling people snowflakes for having a problem with said titles. Crazy how much brain rot someone can have.

banger8840d ago

Dead Island: "The early PC version of the zombie game swapped the playable character Purna’s Gender Wars skill with a prototype name, which shouldn’t be mentioned directly. The skill name made fun of both Purna as a character and feminists."

"Feminist Whore" lmao

gold_drake40d ago

ill add one more to the list.
drakengard 1.

its ridiculous tho, especially since they'd still be able to find their place in alot of places in the world. except america of course ha. and maybe Australia.

ppl are so sensitive these days. ha. but it is what it is.

Barlos40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

They're not offensive.

And we need another Fat Princess. Fantastic little game!

Some people just have no sense of humour if this sort of thing offends them. They need to lighten up and stop taking themselves so seriously.

Deeeeznuuuts40d ago

Would love a new fat princess game 🤟

CantThinkOfAUsername40d ago

Games literally about sexual assault, mass genocide, bombing civilians, and school shooting. None of which is satirical.

isarai39d ago

Actually it's about fat princesses

Huey_My_D_Long39d ago (Edited 39d ago )

Its crazy that people are fixated on Fat princess when clearly the list is going over controversies, and not all of them are equal. Like way worse examples but pretend the entire list is like that.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro50d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv7250d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_50d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga50d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt2350d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball200051d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin51d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole51d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix51d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel198950d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

Michiel198950d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2
