Kilts in a twist as Andy Murray labelled 'English' by Virtua Tennis

SEGA has been left a little red in the face, which pales literally to some of the red faces in Scotland over *their* Andy Murray getting pinned as English.

According to Tam Coyle, a Tartan Army spokesman, this error "is a new low." SEGA is working to fix 'the issue' in Virtua Tennis 2009 to prevent a flood of angry accents getting louder.

I'm scottish and I know for a fact that people here will be sending hate mail to SEGA. It's one thing being called British, but English!, Alex Salmond will be up in arms in the scottish parliment!

I'm proud to be British aswell as Scottish btw.

news4noobs5486d ago

i'm not a Brit but I've lived a year in Scotland (Glasgow) and a year in England (London & Kent)and I have to say, I wouldn't mind to be called Scottish but English?! No way, that's about as bad as being called a German!

mint royale5486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

Some complained when Lewis Hamilton was labelled English and not British claiming that Murray is never refferred to as Scottish but British. Maybe I'm just not noticing it but here South of the border it seems this really bothers the Scot's!

EDIT: My grandfather is Scottish and I'm proud to have roots there but I really hate Alex Salmond. He is the most pathetic and loony MP in parliament. He constantly advocates Scottish independence and then wants the English to supplement Scottish mortgages. What the hell! Idiot. I think he knows deep down that the home nations need each other. Scottish independence would severly weaken all the countries involved.

PirateThom5486d ago

Meh, it's something the English press tend to do.

Murray was from Scotland, so he represented Britain. Tim Henman was from England, but was English.

Jellzy5486d ago

Im also Scottish, and although i have no real qualms about being called Brittish i can see why this has raised a few eye-brows.

If Andy Murray is reffered to as Brittish in the tennis world then why the hell does he have a St. Georges cross emblem next to his name, rather than a Brittish flag? The fact that its likes this means it better have St. Andrews cross next to his name in the final release and not the Union Jack.

U'd think Sega had there facts straight since he's supposed to be on the Cover?!

Gam715486d ago

All those times when we have had an English character as British with the British flag but a Scottish character almost always gets the St. Andrews cross but finally we have a game with the St. George cross instead of the union flag and English instead of British and the guys not even English.

Typical.

This is a huge oversight and Sega need to rectify it.
He's Scottish or British whichever one he's happy with and I believe he's happy with either but saying he's English isn't even getting it close.

I would love to see Salmonds face when someone shows him this

Vip3r5485d ago

We don't have a problem when people are called English. It's when someone on the TV from England looses their British but if they win their English and if someone from Scotland looses their Scottish but if they win their British.

For a Scot to be called English is a far greater insult that being mistaken for British.

As bad as Germany?
Scotland > England !?
Hadrians Wall was built for a reason.

bob saget remix5486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

Get butt hurt when you call them English. Thats a good thing to know. Its kind of the same thing here when you mistake a Native American for a mexican. Its really hard to tell sometimes.
Edit: oh, I'm from the U.S. obviously.

Some of us sure do but it's harder being a Scotsman who was born in Germany.

Why does nothing from this generation multiplayer wise really feel like it will be truly missed? Over sequelization and feautre creep. The cost of high production values.

tdogchristy904129d ago

I already miss halo 3...then they cod'd it with reach and 4.

A7XEric4129d ago

I don't really see it with Reach, but def Halo 4.

ThichQuangDuck4129d ago

Halo 2 was my personal favorite, but Halo 3 was still. Great the companies become so obsessed with making money rather than keeping the core of what made series great

tdogchristy904129d ago

Thich,

I miss the fun antics arcadie, almost college buddy pick up and play feel it had. I guess a lot of that comes from my enjoyment in college. It was almost like a "party shooter" just fun.

Knight_Crawler4129d ago

Well said Thich...one game that I miss from this gen and wish they made another one is Lost Odyssey.

paydayp4129d ago

i just reply about this in a ni no kuni thread to guy who said he hasnt play a good JRPG since the ps2.

lost odyssey was so great loved the text stories and how they were set up with the sound and art. it worked so great.
the overall story was great also there´s still so much potential for a sequel. i would love it

kristoforsparrow4129d ago

The majority of my favorite multiplayer games are on the N64. That console was built with multiplayer as the focus, with 4 ports for controllers.

EddieNX 4129d ago

The Gamecube and wii were both great multiplayer consoles and so is now the wiiu.

It only take a go of Nintendo land , NSMBU or Rayman legends Demo to see this console is trying to keep local multiplayer alive and kicking...

Y_51504129d ago

I had a blast playing Rayman Legends at my local Gamestop with my Bros. Can't wait till it's time for me to get a Wii U!

Blastoise4129d ago

Bomberman! Had that on the Snes. That was a classic multiplayer game

Venoxn4g4129d ago

its amazing, I'm still mad at konami that there are no news (or maybe even cancel) or Bomberman 3DS

paydayp4129d ago (Edited 4129d ago )

wasn´t bomberman owned by hudson soft who went bankrupt?

Venoxn4g4128d ago

@paydayp Konami bought Hudson

Here are some old MP games I enjoyed playing alongside mates:

• 007 NIGHTFIRE - a classic! This game had fantastic MP, I would love a HD remake.

• CONFLICT: Global Storm - acting like a fireteam with my friend where one person takes a buddy and the other does that too before departing down a different path was great fun! I personally loved the desert level with the Jeep.

• MOH (PS1) - OOoh yes, this game had funny personas and great gameplay; in my books, another worthy classic.

TheFirstClassic4129d ago

Still play mario kart and smash bros with some buddies from time to time, the n64 was the best system ever for local mp imo.

Ten Gaming Tens For Ten/Ten/Ten

Connor Beaton writes: "It’s a day not quite as important or well-recognised as, let’s say, November 5th 1955, but this Sunday falls on the tenth day of the tenth month of the year twenty-ten, and that deserves at least some recognition. One of my local coffee shops has decided to slash the price of their coffee to ten pence at ten o’clock in the morning since this Sunday nicely coincides with their tenth birthday. Unfortunately, gamers don’t really have anything to celebrate today, nor does any form of commemoration seem to be incoming from any developers or publishers. In response to this injustice, we’ve compiled a list of ten gaming “tens”, most of which rely on bad puns and stale jokes. Enjoy!"
