PS3Hype Review Old Gold: Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction

PS3Hype writes: "Ratchet & Clank, a duo for any younger but also older gamer. On the PlayStation 2 it was a great success and we are now, one year later. Today we look back to this successful title and we will see if this game can still compete with the top titles by now.

Ratchet & Clank TOD was one of the most unappreciated game of this gen. It was just like playing through a pixar movie. LOL @ game reviewers stating it had too much variety.

raztad5487d ago

Is that true? How a game can be bad because variety? LOL

R&C:Future is awesome. Beautiful, pure fun, platforming at its best. Being a 2007 game visuals are top notch, Im playing it right now and I must say that KZ2 doesnt make this game looks aged.

Shane Kim5487d ago

Yep, gamespot gave it like 7.5 because it had too much variety.

Cajun Chicken5487d ago

Can't wait for the new one. I hope it has just as much tweaks and changes as R&C had to R&C:GC. Spherical worlds FTW.
This is what Insomniac do best.

Sarcasm5487d ago

Honestly what boggles my mind, is why didn't Insomniac just do 60fps for Resistance 2.

60fps with lower poly counts is OK by me. In R&C Future it made it was buttery smooth and played excellent.

Downtown boogey5487d ago

It remains one of the best games on the platform.

xabmol5487d ago

I love those little planets. They were AWSOME!

I just hope we get some more magnetic boot sections. I want them to go crazy with them. I'll never forget the first time I walked up that metal ramp... AMAZING!

Man, I love a good platformer.

lordgodalming5487d ago

First comment on the original website is "no replay value." lol I've played this game through four times already.

GWAVE5487d ago

R&C: Tools of Destruction is the poster boy for what's going on in the gaming media. It has great graphics, smooth gameplay, lots of content, "too much variety", and a lot of replayability. It has a great Meta score and it has sold modestly well.

Yet, the media will ignore it. Same thing happened to Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Motorstorm, and many more.

I guess the one lesson we can learn from this that unless your game has an advertising budget greater than the development budget, it ain't worth mentioning...

Unicron5487d ago (Edited 5487d ago )

Pity. It's an amazing title.

DragonWarrior_45487d ago

It wasn't gamespot who game it a 7.5. It was that douche bag Aarron Thomas, the dude that acted and looked like he had down syndrome that did the review. Everyone who has been to that site knows he was a total xbox 360 fanboy, which is messed up because I didn't buy this game at first because of the review. I ended buying it from Gamefly used which sucks even more because Insomniac deserved my money.

Personally , I thought the game was really fun and pretty. I liked the story of the old ratchets better and the worlds cause they were bigger, but I think Insomniac will do the next one justice. It was at least an 8.5 and it had a ton of replayability. I would have given it at least a nine if it wasn't so short.

pixelsword5487d ago

I hear they're also doing a review of Pong.

i'd give the game a 94/100 but good review nonetheless , very underrated game , cant wait for a Crack in Time , already voted for sticky hand lol

Snatcher5487d ago (Edited 5487d ago )

Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction...the name...it means it can go from a adventure game to a RPG as long as it follows the story. MUAHAHAHA. This franchise will end up like Resident Evil. Resident evil went from horror to action.

THIS FRANCHISE WILL END UP AS RPG.

Can someone please tell me where in the title does it specifically imply this is a adventure genre only? Mwahahaha.

Cajun Chicken5487d ago

It's a platformer/third person shooter hybrid, the only RPG elements in it is leveling up nanotech and weapons.

heyheyhey5487d ago

wtf?

so i guess COD4 is also an RPG because you can improve your weapons and level your character up?

R&C is an action/adventure platformer, has been and always will be.. and it's awesome

akaFullMetal5487d ago

me and my girlfriend can't wait for the new one coming, lets go insomniac!!!!!

News4fanboys5487d ago

dang thats a laaaate review lol.
i will have to disagree with some people saying its the most under appreciated game this gen as imo i think Valkyria chronicles is.
Either way though R&C FTOD is AMAZING and the more veriety the better for me.. i get tired of all these plain same ol same ol games.
Insomniac are an incredible dev team and make nothing short of AAA high quality titles and am proud to support them.

Resistance 1 and 2 were a masterpiece and r&c were as well.

just like the logo says "Only on Playstation" :}

samich20075487d ago

NO it is not a late review :p they are looking at the game after 1 year. They compare the graphics with the games that are now on the market. So maby if there are better graphics now in the games they will rate this time the game with a 8. But a year earlier they've rated it with a 9. Do you understand? :)

News4fanboys5487d ago

ah,ok but why did they rate it then?
dont get that part wen they could just give a writin review.. have these dudes reviewd the game before? if not then it would therefore be a late review as its acually longer then a year, about a year and a half.

jBat175487d ago (Edited 5487d ago )

modern war tea-b'd halo in graphics, gameplay, and fun.

and it's sad that the two year R&C game still looks better than that banjo game that came out just a few weeks ago..

The Past: Looking Back at the Best Games on PS3

PS4 Attitude: "It feels a little strange to be writing a retrospective article about a console which is still going strong, but nevertheless, it won’t be long before the PlayStation 3 will have to play second fiddle to the PS4. To celebrate the launch of PS4 Attitude, I thought I’d look back at some of my favourite PS3 games, to hopefully prove just how much of an awesome console it really is."

Played mgs4 through for only the second time the other day.

Legendary

Angerfist3878d ago

Only twice??? I played through it 5 times, and that was before trophies :D

breakpad3878d ago (Edited 3878d ago )

..11 times here before the trophies and countless hours in MGO (best online tactical competitive game yet) ....unfortunately MGS 4 for me was the only WOW exclusive game for PS3...(damn Sony... support these japanese third party developers for AAA exclusives )

Knushwood Butt3877d ago

Yeah, played it once at launch, then vowed to play it again, but after some time had passed so that I could savour it again.

That second time was a couple of weeks ago..

I'd forgotten how to beat Vamp :)

Angerfist3878d ago

MGS4
Killzone 2
LBP 1
Uncharted 2

Those were the groundbreaking Games on PS3, now doubt about it, that was also the Time PS3 started to rise.
Killzone 2 was my first Game played on a HDTV :)

Tontus3878d ago

Gran Turismo 5, God of War III, The Last of Us? These 3 are the most groundbreaking games, then UC2, LBP & MGS4.

Angerfist3877d ago

Opinions, Opinions. And GT5 was a disappointment to many as it was so inconsistent content wise, Graphics, Damage, etc. especially after 5 Years of waiting.
