OXCGN Reviews Wheelman: Got Good Tread Or Bald Tires?

OXCGN:

"New model. Original Parts.

That's the tag line for Vin Diesel's sequel film Fast & Furious, currently on film screens at the same time as his driving video game Wheelman has been released. And, strangely enough, the tag line applies to the game as much as the film.

You see Vin Diesel's Wheelman may be a new game from his very own studio Tigon, but it uses parts from original best sellers of the various driving genres like Burnout, Driver, and the GTAs. The question is if Wheelman has got good tread to compete with big hitters GTAIV and Saint's Row, or does it run on crappy bald tires (spelt "tyres" here in Oz)?"

gaminoz5509d ago

Nobody can compete really with GTA IV but thank God this game isn't in the US like the rest of them!

Too bad the plot and dialogue sucks, but driving around and crashing is all good fun.

darkmurder5509d ago

Vin Diesel is the biggest badass the world has ever seen. Gotta check this game out!

gaminoz5509d ago

He's got the voice for sure.

Godem5509d ago

Vin should so do books on tape/audio books. it would be damn awesome lol

Superfragilistic5508d ago

Don't know about bald tires... but he's definitely got one bald head!

Godem5509d ago

wow big difference in score compared to some other reviews... maybe i'll have to check this out..

gaminoz5509d ago (Edited 5509d ago )

I think with games like these it depends why you play them. This review said that if you expect GTA IV or a good main mission then forget it, but that the sandbox can be fun.

Some reviewers just have to rush through things and judge by the basic experience. Some will hate it; some will have fun. Maybe a rent first?

XboxOZ3605508d ago

GAmes need to be looked at on their own merits, if they have them, not running the game up against another 'style' of game which it is not meant to be in competition with anyhow.

I admire reviewers who simply play the game - for the game . . .Sure, games will not be the 'same' as others . . that's a given . . if you took a game on the entertainment it gives you, the simple enjoyment or not as the case maybe . . then that is how reviews should be delivered.

Superfragilistic5508d ago (Edited 5508d ago )

Last time I checked quality gameplay, story, graphics, etc, are not exclusive to any particular genre, however, their importance may differ.

If I walk into a store and I look at Wheelman and GTAIV, I'm going to compare their relative merits and make a decision.

Exactly as reviewers should!

XboxOZ3605508d ago

Yes true, but a reviewer who plays a game to actually try and find fault with it and constantly compare it to another is not reviewing the game, but simply pulling the game apart rather than looking for both the pros and cons of the game in that particular genre.

I suppose it comes down to weighing the positive and negative aspects of the game based on what it offers the individual in the end. I have never based my purchases on reviews. If a game "strikes" me as of being of interest, then I'll make to choice to play it - or not.

There's been many a game I have played that has received poor reviews, but I have loved the experience it game me . . .

gaminoz5508d ago

@ Super

Yeah this is true, but GTA IV would score a 9 or 10, not a 7. And some games can have aspects that are good additions or more fun aspects that bigger better titles missed.

I've played a lot of 'lesser' titles and still had fun. If I played only the games that Metacritic told me to, then I'd be missing out on lots.

Superfragilistic5508d ago

I agree with you gaminoz but Oz I think any good reviewer needs to consider a game in light of other games, otherwise the score (merely a relative measure) is pointless!

I get what you're trying to say is that some reviewers are better than others. But that's not because they review games as islands, that's because they review them in light of comparable games BUT then they weight it accordingly depending on the pros and cons of an individual game and what its target audience is.

As gaminoz succintly points out that's why it got a 7 and not a 9 or 10.

The problem is far more the diversity of gaming experiences on offer and the inability of (some) reviewers to identify who that experience is targeted at.

I'd also say it's compounded by reviewers seeming inability, apart from some notable exceptions such as EDGE and Giant Bomb, to use the full range of whatever scale they use (eg 0-10). A 3/5 on GB or a 6/10 on EDGE is a far better score than the numerical equivalent on many other sites such as IGN.

“Ranking every game with Vin Diesel from terrible to bad”

Fixed the title for you.

Venoxn4g1045d ago

Yes it is..such a great game

bunt-custardly1045d ago

Obviously too young or ill-informed to pass judgement. Honestly, Orchard. You just mugged yourself off. Starbreeze Studios' The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is a very well-known classic.

rlow11045d ago

Butcher Bay was great. From the prolog, fist fighting, knife fights and story. The immersion of the whole package really uped the criteria of what a cutting edge game was back then. I would like another adventure with Riddick, but it would have to be triple A status to live up to Butcher Bay.

shaenoide1045d ago

You can't you. There isn't any good game :p

boing11045d ago

Butcher's Bay, man. A classic. One of the few games I finished in one sitting.

5 Best Games Featuring Celebrities

MenStuff: "OK, it’s hard to actually recommend many celebrity-endorsed games. They don’t exactly live up to the triple-A standard as some of the big blockbuster movies the actors star in, but there are a few that made for a fun adventure and deserve a shout-out."

I'd like to see another Tenchu, I miss that series

Lord_Sloth3870d ago

COMPLETELY agree. Got a 360 just for Z.

Krimmson3870d ago

Remember everyone, Sega thought it was a better idea to invest in Aliens: Colonial Marines than Shenmue 3.

ScubbaSteve3870d ago (Edited 3870d ago )

I never played the Shenmue games, but I've always wanted another Valkeria Chronicles on a main console. So I'd be happy to lend you all my pitchfork when you rise up against Sega.

Lord_Sloth3870d ago

And accidentally invest in Borderlands 1 and 2 at the same time. XXXD

Sam Fisher3870d ago
