Dragun6195509d ago

I hope this time it will actually stay true to actually being Multiplatform unlike another game(Last Remnant).

To be honest, I don't really care about any game developed by Tri-Ace. I've played all their console games since the PS1 era (except Infinite Undiscovery), and their all pretty mediocre.

TheHater5509d ago

I have to agree. Since the Playstation 1, I personally feels that Tri-Ace hasn't release a kick ass JRPG on any consoles. The last great JRPG the release on a console for me was Star Ocean: Second Story for the original playstation. Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time killed the series for me. What they did to the story in part 3 made Star Ocean a huge turn off for me.
But on the hand-held, they made and remade three kick ass JRPGs.
The remake of Star Ocean and Star Ocean: Second Evolution. They also made Star Ocean: Blue Sphere for the Gameboy color or Gameboy Advance. I forgot which one it was made for.

sofresh2005509d ago

Agreed... Tri-Ace games are pretty bad, minus the battle systems.

UltimateIdiot9115509d ago

I enjoyed Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth a lot though. So, I wouldn't say they are that bad.

Cheeseknight285509d ago

You had to have missed one of their PS2 RPGs because Radiata Stories was anything but mediocre.

Why dis5509d ago (Edited 5509d ago )

Bitter because of non PS support this gen? or maybe you have alot of time on your hands.

Just saying... you won't catch me in places I "don't really care about"

RPG's are hit and miss unless you have a bias towards a series you think should only be on certain platforms ;)

dylandurden5509d ago

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria for PS2 was actually pretty good, a rock solid rpg.

PELVIC THRUST ACTION5509d ago

Tri Ace used to be pretty good. Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile and a few others. Then they started sucking in the PS2 era, and on the 360 they're basically terrible. Though they probably do want to make profit now so they have to make it on PS3 as Japan couldn't give a crap about their games on the 360.

PlayStation Plus is a secret paradise for RPG fans

From games that digitaltrends DeAngelo Epps has always wanted to play but missed out on, like Odin Sphere, to newer titles that he'd love to re-experience like Yakuza: Like a Dragon, there was enough there to justify diving back in. And those titles aren’t even a small percent of what’s available here. Vanillaware titles, Square Enix games, NIS franchises he’d never even heard of — there’s a whole lot to dig into.

PSPlus is Amazing for RPGs and NIS America, Square Enix and Vanillaware games are perfect for PSPortal.

LG_Fox_Brazil155d ago

Not really a 'secret' but a paradise indeed, I just finished Soul Hackers 2, pretty good, and started Labyrinth of Galleria and I am having a blast. Tons of great RPGs in the PS4/PS5 family

Mr_cheese155d ago

Secret is the click buzzword. Can't have a title without bait these days.

Perfect for playing on the Portal, since rpgs can be such timesinks. For those people who can't stay glued to the TV, it's good to give some freedom around the house, out on the porch or whatever. I haven't picked up a Portal yet, bc of life priorities, but I definitely anticipate picking one up asap and playing more rpgs!

ziggyzinfirion155d ago

I'm currently playing Final Fantasy VII:Remake for the first time on PS5 and I am freaking blown away by this game so far. I don't know why I waited this long or due to my huge backlog but had to be honest, this game exceeded my expectations.

OtterX155d ago

Yea, story pacing aside, the combat system is pretty killer, especially if you slow it down to play it more like a tactical turned based jrpg!

I actually wish FF16 had gone this route, instead of the DMC route. The FF7:R system gave enough action for those who wanted to play that way, while still appeasing us old school turn based jrpg fans.

Glad you're enjoying!

crazyCoconuts155d ago

Some of the best in game HDR I've ever seen in that game. I liked it a lot too. My first final fantasy game believe it or not

Tri-Ace still uses their old game engine from 2008

The gaming community lately makes jokes about companies making games that look like "PS3" or "PS2" games. While this is such a nasty dig, there may be some truth to this in the case of tri-Ace.

Sad really. I used to love these guys but man...they just aren't what they used to be.

phallusitator335d ago

According to the this they are exactly what they used to be…

Noskypeno336d ago

The Cod games have been using an engine built in the mid 90s. Nothing wrong with using an old engine if they update it. Bioshock used UE2 and looked better than most UE3 games. Arkham knight used UE3 and looked better than most UE4 games.

Chriswynnetbh336d ago

I would give my left nut for an infinite undiscovery pc port

shinoff2183335d ago

Sh it does suck but I enjoyed star ocean 6 the most out of any game last year. I thought it was solid af start to finish. My favorite game that year.

I'd love for Sony to get ahold of them.

shinoff2183335d ago

To late to edit but I just wanted to add not every game that comes out needs to push a consoles boundaries. Star ocean 6 looked fairly good to me.

shammgod335d ago

Yeah. They definitely squeezed every drop out of that engine for SO6. It was a fun game

nitus10335d ago (Edited 335d ago )

I assume you are talking about "Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness" which I do have and am still playing. IMHO it is a good game but for some reason I still prefer "Star Ocean: The Last Hope" that I played on my PS3.

As a side note I have "Star Ocean: Till the End of Time" (PS2 version) which I played on my first gen PS3 but unfortunatly the Australian version of the PS3 did not have full backwards capability like the US version did. I got so far in the game and hit a bug (advancement to a new area between two mountains) that prevented further play.
