The Next Metal Gear Will Not Be As Epic (If Multiplatform)

"Where would video games be without good old Solid Snake? Snake's gruff exterior, perfectly voiced by David Hayter, has entered the annals of gaming consciousness. Seriously, what other character in gaming could rock a cardboard box harder than Konami's super spy? Mr. Hideo Kojima's anime influenced sneaking series have had enthralled modern gamers since the early days of PSone. The Metal Gear Solid franchise created an entire sub-genre in action gaming paving the way for other such franchises as Splinter Cell."

as a ps3 fan, and an MGS lover, i will not support one of sonys biggest mascots if it did leap over to the 360...you will get a rent from me, and thats it

Elven65529d ago (Edited 5529d ago )

Metal Gear Solid has been on non Sony platforms in the past, infact the last generation saw MGS grace its presence on 3/4 consoles.

Edit: Technically 4 if you count Bleem! for the Dreamcast.

- Ghost of Sparta -5529d ago (Edited 5529d ago )

We're talking about the main series here, not the spin-offs or the remakes. If MGS5 ends up as a DVD I swear to god I wouldn't buy it. MGS4 nearly took up an entire Blu-ray disc (dual-layered) and still, Hideo Kojima complained about storage. It'll be disgrace to all the fans and before you tell me I'm not a true fan, I stood in line for over 20 hours waiting for Hideo Kojima to sign my original copy of Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation 1. MGS4 sold over 4 million copies worldwide. This wouldn't be business, it'd be selling out.

"We're talking about the main series here, not the spin-offs or the remakes. If MGS5 ends up as a DVD I swear to god I wouldn't buy it"

So that mean you are not a fan of the series just a console brand brain washed fan.

Anyway can somebody answer this without BS. Can Xbox360 be like PC games where a game come in (example) 3 discs or 4 and you install all 4 on the HDD and just with the 1st play the game?

So a metal Gear on Wii its a downgraded experience?
The problem on this so over hyped Next-Gen is that almost everybody now put Graphics 1st and Game play 2nd but in PS2 almost everybody was like "The most important thing is gameplay and a variety of games" Bunch of Mother Fu#$%@% !!!

sonarus5529d ago

FVCK YOU NON SUPPORTERS

Exclusive or multiplatform a good game is a good game

pwnsause5529d ago (Edited 5529d ago )

he meant he doesn't want a downgraded experience. going from MGS4(BD) to MGS5 (DVD9) is not how Kojima rolls.

FarEastOrient5529d ago (Edited 5529d ago )

If you watched the presentation, Kojima-san did say that for him to release a Metal Gear game the system it is going to be on has to be an improvement over the previous. The gamecube for example is technically better than the PS1 which is why you got that graphical improvement there.

PS2 is an improvement compared to the gamecube and PSX so he moved on to that system. This is the reason why we haven't seen one released for the Wii and according to his philosophy we will not see one for the Xbox 360 because it is a step backwards when compared to the PS3.

Another example is that iPhone is better than the current models of the DS and PSP.

I Like how someone disagrees even though I was in the theater during his presentation and that is exactly how he plans on executing his projects.

sonarus5529d ago

Quite frankly i don't think any other MGS game this generation can match up to MGS4 so regardless of exclusive or multiplatform.

If he decides to make one for PS4 or Xbox 3/720 then thats a different story. However if there is an MGS5 in the works, the fact that its on 360 won't make it any worse. The fact that Kojima may not be making it probably will make it worse.

solidsnakus5529d ago

lol, you guys are retarded. so now because your GETTING the game as well as some other people, your not buying it anymore? come on now, its just childish. if they were to stop making it on ps3 and only make it on 360 that be something to be pissed off about.

Dragun6195529d ago

Honestly, I don't the next MGS will be multiplatform because of what Kojima is trying to achieve with his vision as quoted

"When we first showed the game engine at Tokyo Game Show, the staff were really proud and happy. PS3 was a dream machine, y'know, and we were going to work on this and that - we had so many ideas. But when we actually started developing the game, we realized there were a lot of restrictions and so it turned out how you see it today. The original vision was to go ten steps further, the reality was just one step, which isn't to say we didn't progress."

Hell, He even stated that blu ray wasn't enough for him
http://kotaku.com/362807/ko...
He used a 50gb blu ray for MGS4 and he doesn't have enough space? How would that even work with Xbox360 if it can't even keep up with some games such as Rage and Red Fraction and the fact that it uses DVD's.
You would need like 4-5 discs for MGS4 on xbox360 and thats probably when the whole games compressed.

Red Fraction Guerrilla pushed the xbox360 to its limits
http://gamer.blorge.com/200...

Rage Will Look Worse on 360 Due to Compression
http://www.shacknews.com/on...

Kojima likes to improve his games sepecially with the MGS series not downgrade them.

Snake Raiser5529d ago (Edited 5529d ago )

I can't believe it, but I actually KIND OF agree with you. You are completely wrong to call people retards because they feel strongly about this topic. However, you are right that a great game is a great game and should be bought without consideration as to what console it is on.

That said, I hope MGS5 uses the best technology available to create the most high quality experience possible.

Yes metal gear wii would be a downgraded experience if it follows the MGS storyline. why would I want to go from 7.1 losless sourround sound to 5.1 analog surround, why would I want to go from next-gen graphics which was MGS4 to last-gen graphics? Metal Gear solid is a series that was positioned to benchmark to see what the PlayStation consoles can do, not to mention mixed in with solid gameplay and an amazing story. it is the "Hardcore Gamers" game.

s8anicslayer5529d ago

Sony better wine and dine Kojima and CO. to keep MGS on a sony platform, Sony must know they have lost enough exclusives to MS then they had hoped for, and if they loose MGS that would be a huge blow for them.

NMC20075529d ago (Edited 5529d ago )

Then you are not a fan or supporter of MGS, just of Sony. GTFO!
I am a known 360 fanboy but I give credit where it's due and support where it's deserved and when I get my PS3 sometime soon MGS 4 will be my first purchase.

Stop being a corporate pawn and start being a gamer.

xxBATTLECATxx5529d ago

thats really very cheap of you sasanova. i LOVE metal gear, if it went exclusive to wii, id buy the wii just for one game. its one of my fave series/games of all time. i disagree that itll be gimped if it goes multiplat as long as its built on PS3 first AND the 360 version comes later. i say later because if its developed at the same time, i dont want them to even THINK about a 360 version until theyve perfected it. i dont want anything gimped because of different programming architectures or storage limits. just make it perfect on PS3 first.

All-35529d ago

Oh really?

http://www.1up.com/do/featu...

1UP: With your debut of the Tokyo Game Show Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer, which has seen wide distribution in both Japanese magazines, online, and in the U.S. Official PlayStation Magazine recently, it really heralded the dawn of the next-generation. Everything else has been polished and nice, but this was so powerful, so compelling you even had to do a real-time demonstration at TGS to prove it was running on PS3 hardware. That said, it makes you wonder how much of a gap there is between the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Do you think you could create MGS4, technically, on 360 if you wanted to?

Hideo Kojima (HK): Yes, that's technically possible. I want to express, first of all, it's not that I don't like Xbox or 360. It's just that last year, our hands were really tied to MGS3, so the other Konami developers were able to get their hands on the 360 tools and hardware earlier. But we simply didn't have time to do that last year. So, meaning that we were behind the other developers in terms of 360 development. Kojima Productions has this philosophy that we want to be the first in everything regarding new technology. So after we finished MGS3, the option was to work on the PS3 to try all the new things for Metal Gear Solid 4. NOTE --> The only reason for this is I'm the kind of person who wants to be the first person on the moon, and don't want to be asking "what the moon was like?" from other people. So that's the real story behind selecting PS3.

--> So that's the REAL STORY behind selecting the PS3 <--

1UP: It's interesting that you think you could do this on 360, though.

---> Hideo Kojima (HK): Maybe some nuance or a small details here and there might be different, but I feel that hardware is no longer a matter. I'm just talking about PS3, 360 and PC. Revolution is totally different, but there are really no differences among the other three.

Kamikaze1355529d ago

If the next Metal Gear were multi platform of course it won't be epic. Kojima took up an entire blu ray disc. If he had to change it because he had to release the same game on a DVD then we'd get a LOT less content.

PoSTedUP5529d ago (Edited 5529d ago )

and looking at the production costs of developing a game multiplatform AND having it on multiple discs, there is no way MG5 will be multiplat (because of big business) money isn't guaranteed and when u can make a game on one disc, have little to no marketing and it still sell 4-5 million, cmon, the game not gunna be multiplat.

Kamikaze1355529d ago

I own a 360 and yes, I love it. However, there are just some games I'd rather they keep on the PS3 to prevent having to downgrade it unless it's a series that was a multiplatform series from the start.

MGS4 raised the Metal Gear standard, and going below that standard will only disappoint people on both sides (PS3 and 360 owners who played MGS4).

Sangria5529d ago

As long as there is no inferior/superior version and no exclusive DLC to a platform, i don't really care if it's going multiplatform or not.

Considering the huge sales of MGS4 (around 3.5~4 millions) for the install base (13 millions PS3 at this time), a badass Raiden game (that may redefine the ninja game genre) can make big sales too, no matter if it's exclusive or not.

UltimateIdiot9115529d ago

If it is inferior to MGS4, that's pretty disappointing. I want MGS5 to further the experience like how MGS3 is a lot better than MGS2 in terms of graphic and experience. By making it multiplatform, I don't think that jump in quality will be created and more likely to drop in quality.

KingKionic 5529d ago

lol... come on . if it did that would be great. imagine next gen graphics metal gear on xbox 720 and ps4....that would be pretty good.

TrevorPhillips5529d ago

So MGS5 u will be playing as raiden, hopefully ull be able to use guns since raiden is ninja and uses only swords

PoSTedUP5529d ago

man i would love a MG5 with some heavenly sword characteristics (except less linear than HS)

xabmol5529d ago

Raiden uses a gun in MGO.

- Ghost of Sparta -5529d ago

Nice find, never noticed it. Besides, he never used it. Maybe he did though, at some point while he had to rescue Sunny.

cayal5529d ago

Nah he never used it, but he always had the side holster (guess for added badassedness).

I’d have taken a few of those out. Prefer Sonic over Sonic 2. Outrun should be in there. Maybe even Pong as millions of people had fun with that even if it was repetitive. Final Fight pipped any Streets of Rage game, although Streets of Rage had the better soundtrack. Too many to list l guess. To me, retro gaming is the 1980s, maybe going into early 1990s.

Popsicle57d ago

Agree that the generational gap is too broad to really make a strong list. Need to tighten the years a bit. Hard to compare Pac Man with N64 games.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro68d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv7268d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt2368d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!
