CryENGINE 3 Features in Detail

CryENGINE 3 is the first development platform for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, MMO, DX9/DX10 that also is truly Next-Gen-Ready - with scalable computation and graphics for all major upcoming platforms.

It provides the complete game engine to create AAA quality next generation games, and includes the Sandbox level editor, a production-proven, 3rd generation "What you see is what you play" (WYSIWYP) - tool designed by and for professional developers.

At GamersDigest you will find an extremely in-depth (over 3,000 words) look into the features of the engine.

The maker of the engine...

"Yerli went on to describe how the engine is being built to perform across platforms. "The CE3 runs currently at more or less the same quality bar. I say more or less because the engine still optimizes itself to power of the platforms' intrinsics. So the PS3 will run slightly better here, it'll look and feel probably the same, but the engine is diverting computation needs to power subsystems available to the PS3, and the 360 differently, and PC differently." "

but about the engine ITS A REALLY GOOD ONE FOR THE Ps3 and Xbox360 .

Bravo :) Read up on NaughtyDog's GdC pamphlet.

lol, you guys are so lost. Its a good thing though, the cryengine is the best cure for Unreal Engine denialitus. Now you can finally remove the fanboy goggles, and realize Epic rode you guys for a few years with old technology. Some of you actually thought normal maps = next gen.

Kushan5514d ago (Edited 5514d ago )

- Ghost of Sparta -: Did you even read the link you posted? It doesn't mention anything about it being better on one platform or another...

Also, Unreal Engine 3 IS old tech, it was pretty much finished before the 360 was even released, why on earth would you think it'd still stand out against custom built engines released years later? But there's more to an engine than it's graphics, you know. The Unreal engine is a remarkable design, it's easily the most flexible engine out there and that's what makes it so popular. It's been used in FPSs, TPSs (obviously), Racing games, beat 'em ups, side-scrollers, etc.
Can the Uncharted Engine do that? Can the Halo 3 engine do that? Can the Source Engine even do that? (Picked a variety of engines there to hopefully not show bias). I very much doubt that even CE2 will be able to do that.
I'm not saying UE3 is the BEST engine ever made, that kind of opinion is relative depending on the qualities you look for, but it's certainly one of the most versatile, so don't be so quick to knock it.

BrunoM5514d ago (Edited 5514d ago )

he was talking about the quote i pasted on 1.4

Why dis was trying to say it look beater on the 360 wen the guys making the engine say it looks beater on the ps3 .. that was sparta was trying to remind why dis of .

Hope i made it more clear .

LONEWOLF2315514d ago (Edited 5514d ago )

lol, he said RUN better key word RUN as in better frames and the likes HE never did mention which one would look better graphically, so dont get moist just yet. Some of you peeps need to go back to school and learn how to read properly.

Why dis5514d ago (Edited 5514d ago )

Are you talking to me? run better because things are turned off? I guess the two points are the same?

I would take what devs/companies have to say with a grain of salt. I wouldn't take what most say to the bank. The last 6 or 7 multi platform dealings have appeared one way only later to be proven wrong again and again.

I wouldn't be boasting that twisted link/quote when the PS3 version of their demonstration was inferior. Seems strange you would even dare post it when the PS3 version of their demo was so far behind in many ways. We know PS3 is a math whiz I don't think that has anything to do with the 360 vs PS3 fight much.

Ok, here's a question, a question so obvious it's going to be asked eventually (if not already).
Which looks better, the tech demo for CE3, or Killzone 2? KZ2 was often comapred to Crysis and Crysis usually got voted as better looking, but you did need a $2,000 machine to run it. But what about CE3?

I ask this not because of it's direct competition with KZ2, but because KZ2 is widely believed to be "impossible" on any other console. However, if an engine comes out that DOES look better and DOES run on the 360...

I'm not saying anything, I'm just proposing an interesting debate =)

TheIneffableBob5514d ago

I thought the CryENGINE 3 trailer looked fairly poor. A lot of detail is missing, such as distant trees and high-resolution textures on many objects. I think Killzone 2 looks better, but it's sort of unfair as one is open-world while the other is linear progression.

And you did not need a $2,000 machine to run Crysis when it released. Why do people always say this? I built myself a $1,000 machine (for Photoshop and video editing--and gaming as well, of course) and it played Crysis at high just fine.

Kushan5514d ago

Oh I know that, I just meant that to get the BEST from Crysis, you needed a pretty powerful machine, even by Today's standards. I don't think there was a graphics card capable of running it at it's highest settings at the time of release, but that's typical of PC games these days.

And by the way, I'm not trying to spark a fanboy debate, I am genuinely asking a "what if?" question because I think it would be an interesting development.

I would also point out that Killzone 2 has a COMPLETELY different rendering engine than most other games, which is why it looks so good (although it has some odd drawbacks, such as transparency issues), which also factors into the "Apples and Oranges" comparison of comparing it against Crysis or CE3. But such things are all a matter of opinion.

kewlkat0075514d ago

Basically most will be saying the same..

From what we saw from this CryEngine3, should tone down all that gloating about KZ2(The best game ever created) and what we thought could never be done on Consoles.

Blasphemy, if you thought KZ2 looks better than Crysis, in the first place.

Should be interesting..

phosphor1125514d ago

It looks really good. Like someone else said, the details are lacking. While KZ2, you look at shadows and details, they have an LOD, so you step back and detail goes down, but in KZ2, it like..transitions to better looking shadows and such, it doesn't just pop in. For what CE3 has to offer, it looks amazing.

I love KZ2 graphics and still think they are the best graphics so far on console, but if CE3's frame rate can stay up with the amount of crazy stuff going on screen like KZ2, then that will be completely awesome.

I THINK the reason why people like KZ2's engine so much is because it looks great, and no matter what happens, it looks great, with a constant FPS. Right now fanboys are hoping graphics that good won't come to 360 so they can keep bragging about KZ2..fair enough, 360 fanboys did the same at one point too, but it still doesn't get rid of the fact that CE3 has great potential. I'm a huge fan of the CE 2 engine, so seeing this makes me happy. Besides..this will only cause GG (and other companies..hopefully Epic will dump UE3..) to work harder for their games. If they can get the best, they will go for the best, that's how they are.
