Gasp, and everyone thought it was dead.

Leord5527d ago

Well, for us westerners, it's still kind of dead...

Maticus5527d ago

It's been said that it will never return to the UK or US. It never had a chance in my opinion.

Elly5527d ago

And it goes on, well not for US and Euro apparently.

Leord5527d ago

What do you mean "never had a chance"? I thought the game was great fun, besides the fact that they literary sold a beta version. Well, it was literary a beta version in the East, here we got a proper gold one, but it was the quality of a beta.

Cogo5527d ago

It's been up and down out of the grave for ages, actually...

Well, the game wasn't really bad, it was just released too early, and as Bill roper said in that interview, they just tried too many things at once. Skipping the subscriber part of the game might have saved it from the start!

Cogo5527d ago

Well, it wasn't "great", but it did have a charm, and a little Diablo-feel to it. With more polish, it COULD have been great, but it wasn't.

Sometimes (always, really) you'll find that polish is what MAKES a product, it isn't just something you put on as an afterthought.

Dorjan5527d ago

I had it, however I got it late so a lot of the really bad bugs you hear about wasn't there. The falling through floors was though (annoying but not game breaking) and the fact no-one had a clue what the stats meant on the weapons...

Anywhoo, I hope some cracker finds how to port the patch to the UK version! :D

(It is Hellgate:LONDON after all ;) )

trgz5527d ago (Edited 5527d ago )

The greedy bastards should never have tried that subscription model - serve 'em right. The voice acting was laughable too!

Maticus5527d ago

Bring it back to the west!

kalos5527d ago

Obey the wishs of Maticus, or be forced to face her anger! :D

AndyA5527d ago

Yeah, they really need to support this game everywhere, not just Korea.

Th3 Chr0nic5527d ago

i played the beta and it was cool i thought. i never experienced many bugs but it did seem very unpolished and not worth charging per month for which is what killed them.

Th3 Chr0nic5527d ago

wait i got this confused with tabula rasa..so let me take that back. I did play the beta for both games while tabula rasa was cool i hated Hellgate and thought it was garabage.

17 Years Later, Hellgate: London Makes Surprise Return With New Game From Original Developer

IGN : Remember Hellgate: London? The dark fantasy action role-playing game came out in 2007 for PC, a year before developer Flagship Studios went bankrupt. Since then, various free-to-play and online revivals have come and gone. Now, 17 years after the release of Hellgate: London, it’s back.

Relientk7735d ago

I remember some friends and I all bought Hellgate: London day one because it was made by some original Diablo devs. We had fun playing it, good memories.

PC Invasion: Hellgate: London is back on Steam, but it's not what you expect it to be. It's a single-player game in the vein of Asian MMOs.

They actually are. It'll be a VR game. Not sure what Hanbitsoft is thinking. Supposedly Hellgate is doing GREAT in Korea, but not-so-much outside of it besides a fan revive called Hellgate: 2038. I'd actually love to see Bandai and the creators of DOOM team up for another rumble against Hell's forces.

Lon3wolf2280d ago

Indeed I wish they would, I'm really not interested in VR at the moment.

ThatDudeMunkee2280d ago

You and me both, Lon3wolf. I want a full new game or a REALLY good remaster. I think in today's market, it'd actually do a lot better under the proper team.

sampsonon2280d ago

i don't want another Doom game. i want Hellgate

Mulando2280d ago

Well Hellgate London had it's moments, but .. well not for the long run.

ThatDudeMunkee2280d ago

It's still alive, haha. There's a fan revival currently going on that just entered Open Alpha. I've actually tried it out. It's actually pretty solid and their servers are definitely as good as you'd hope for a private server.

bluefox7552280d ago

I enjoyed it. Felt like it was underrated.

sampsonon2280d ago

the atmosphere is incredible. f they remade the game with todays graphics but kept the actual look and feel of the game i would spend a ton of money on it. Engineer baby!!

amcka302280d ago

It's a shame Hellgate: London did so poorly. It was an interesting game, and well worth a sequel.

irishyort2280d ago

Never heard of it. What a shame :(

ThatDudeMunkee2280d ago

You can actually play it today! The fan revival has been a solid experience for me so far (aside from getting a good disc off Ebay or Amazon).

sampsonon2280d ago

can you link me the mod download for 2038 version please?

ThatDudeMunkee2280d ago

https://london2038.com

Just a note, you will need to make an account on their site, use a disc to install, and proceed from there.
