Indeed the launch software of the GameCube really seems to show some muscle. I cannot imagine how good GC games will look in 2002 or 03. The PS2 looks to have some competition very soon and so far they only have MGS2 GTA3 and GT3 as graphical showcases for the PS2's power.

Even if Halo 3 looks mediocre by next-gen standards it does look partially next-gen. This game looks last-gen with a few cool effects. But again, such water effects can even be seen in Resistance retribution. The graphics on those two are comparable, they're just a bit cleaner on Wii.

Hmm i agree that Halo3 doesn't look knock out at first but it's much more a subtle thing.HDR lighting is one thing that hits you after many playthroughs as well as a scale of battle that only initially appears as good as previous games - i'm talking up to 30 brutes on screen and vehicles.Some of the bigger missions do much bigger stuff that this gen fps have yet to do frankly.Textures are where Halo3 really shines as any time in theatre mode will tell - lovely lighting too.The idea that H3 has last gen graphics though is simply not true but certainly the game as a whole didn't meet with the ambitions in people's minds - still my most played game on the 360 though by a long shot

Conduit certainly has me quite excited.The whole thing remeinds me of the Goldeneye days and there seems to be an air of mystery to the game.Who knows, maybe it will join the ranks of the greats also but then maybe that's a tall order

For now though Halo3 despite it's initial disapointments, is the the current best shooter for consoles

Also a day one purchase for me is Conduit
