Can God of War III save the PS3?

Guardian:

"Like most who played them I enjoyed the two previous God of War games but would I be waiting around for the third game before I bought a PS3? Maybe, I guess, but chances are most God of War fans will have either got a PS3 or moved over to 360. That's if they can afford one of course. Williams, like most analysts, states the obvious, although price is clearly still a huge factor in the PS3's slow start."

PS3 doesn't need saving. Back to KZ2.

-EvoAnubis-5536d ago

Seriously, is this question going to get asked with every high-profile title the PS3 has this year? Save the PS3? From what? Can someone please explain to me what exactly the PS3 needs to be saved from? The only thing I can think of that it needs to be "saved" from is being the most used piece of electronic equipment in my house.

chewy3175536d ago

Guardian... yet again u prove yourselves that ure xbox fanboys.

Snatcher5536d ago (Edited 5536d ago )

So it obviously needs saving. But, I could not care less. PS3 is a great system with plenty of games. Some of the games from the system are highly underrated. Like: Lair, Valkyria Chronicles, Ratchet and Clank Future and Motorstorm 2.

el_bandito5536d ago

What a stupid trend. Once an AAA game comes out its either touted as the "PS3-Savior" or the "Halo-Killer". What we need to save and kill are fanboys.

Real Gambler5536d ago

About 20 millions PS3 sold in two years and somebody in the world still write an article about "saving" the PS3. How many boxes do they need to sell before those articles stop? I can see those articles popping again in 6 years from now: "Can the PS3 be saved? Only 100 millions boxes sold."

somekindofmike5536d ago

I'm so fed up with these generic articles...

"can (enter high profile game here) save the PS3!"

Yes the PS3 is currently in last place behind a Nintendo Wii (which is at a much lower price point and aimed at a completely different target audience) and an Xbox 360 (which had a whole year head start in sales on the PS3) and even if it finishes this console generation in last place I don't think it's been a failure, maybe just a learning curve for Sony. But I'm not going to try and predict what'll happen in the future!

SL1M DADDY5536d ago

To gain hits to a pathetic site that can't rely on journalism to generate hits but rather flame bait and fanboy fodder.

mint royale5536d ago

Its a serious newspaper I don't think they care about games enough to be fanboys. As a result they are just misinformed. Hence the title.

theKiller5536d ago

so after going through my edition the title is this...

Can God of War III take out of business the 360?

jadenkorri5536d ago

so I have a prediction, when Gran Turismo 5 comes out, an article will read "Will Gran Turismo 5 save the ps3.... These articles are getting old, the ps3 is outselling the 360 according to release times, 360 of course is going to outsell it every month literally being half the price, but its been out 1 year more than the ps3, it should be outselling, either that or MS is failing and the articles should be reading Halo Wars, will it save the 360. Looking at the price of the PS3 compared to the 360, yet PS3 is still outselling the 360, MS should be embarrassed as more and more people are switching over, whether its bad experiences, or the games, people are. People who are sticking with the 360 only, or bad mouth the ps3 are stuck up and hate Sony for not providing warrenties on ps1/ps2, or ended the beloved saturn/dreamcast(sega legacy)... It time to move on, sony got it right with the launch of the ps3, yet they stick to a console that has the worst hardware failure in history.

NickIni5536d ago

Haha. The Guardian...a fanboy site that needs hits?

I lol'd. These articles all come from one 'blogger' so to speak.

gaffyh5536d ago

PS3 doesn't need saving cos it sells consistently well despite having a very high price point. It needs saving WHEN it stops selling.

mint royale5536d ago

that doesn't even make sense. Thats even worse!

Sensationalism brings hits. Both sides are guilty of this, its pathetic really.

Acquiesc35536d ago

Agreed. I find it ridiculous that fanboys still think the ps3 needs any saving. 21 million install base (and counting) in 3 years with an already impressive exclusive library and even more impressive '09 line up means it's here to stay.

XLiveGamer5536d ago (Edited 5536d ago )

in this xmas2009 they really need GT5 and God of War 3.

MGS4 and KZ2 are awesome games but the really need to shine with those other titles. Denied it all you want but the true is thanks to your Federal Reserve Bank and the f#ck up economy Sony its loosing a lot of money for each PS3 they sell.

@ gaffyh - 1.12

"PS3 doesn't need saving cos it sells consistently well despite having a very high price point"

I agree but are they selling a lot of games? before you answer please come to reality and make a research.

@ Chubear - 2.2

"Kinda funny cause the 360 sold less consoles than the PS3 in the same time period and I never saw a single "Can _ save the 360?" title on the net"

That's because they are not losing the amount of money Sony its losing for every PS3 sold and they are selling a lot of games. But also because they are offering PSN service for free and its not making profit from it, remember people don't work for free unless they are slaves.

pixelsword5536d ago

...I post the story to steal hits.

Enjoy!

Will the release of God of War III really turn round the fortunes of the PS3? Analyst Nick Williams certainly thinks so, although price will still be a factor.

The launch of God of War III in late 2009/early 2010 will mark a pivotal moment for Sony. But in order to ensure that this game is a hardware sales driver, the cost of the base-level PS3 will need to be in the same ballpark as the Xbox 360 and Wii. According to our latest consumer tracking study, only two in three people who plan to purchase God of War III currently own a PS3

Like most who played them I enjoyed the two previous God of War games but would I be waiting around for the third game before I bought a PS3? Maybe, I guess, but chances are most God of War fans will have either got a PS3 or moved over to 360. That's if they can afford one of course. Williams, like most analysts, states the obvious, although price is clearly still a huge factor in the PS3's slow start.

The price point for the PS3 remains a real problem for Sony. Sony execs now find themselves in the precarious position of trying to balance consumer price expectations with the high costs of producing each PS3. That said, the PS2's continued success more than eight years after launch suggests that Sony is thinking long term with the PS3. If Sony can continue to bring down hardware manufacturing costs, it seems likely that it will offer a price cut by the end of Summer 2009.

So what do you think? Will God of War III cause a rush on PS3 consoles? Or is a price cut still the only way Sony are going to shift more?

NickIni5536d ago

Pixel, the Guardian doesn't need hits. It doesn't matter to them whether 500 or so people hit up the site, that's nothing.

gaffyh5536d ago

@xlivegamer - MGS4 over 4 million sales, nearly 5 (last numbers from Konami a few months ago showed 4.7 millions sales), Resistance 1 over 3.5 mil, GT5 Prologue (JUST A DEMO! according to some) sold over 3 million (maybe 4 if you include Digital copies.

stevenhiggster5536d ago

Who ever writes for the gaurdian is clearly a 360 fanboy, anyone who disagrees with me is also clearly a 360 fanboy.

And anyway, the PS3 doesn't need saving thankyou very much!

Megaton5536d ago (Edited 5536d ago )

Seriously, I'm so sick of that phrase. This isn't 2007. Lets catch up with the rest of the world, k?

SiLeNt KNighT5535d ago

give this guy a little more credit, nobody is really THAT dumb. he must be asking if GOW3 will allow for game saves. most likely, and be sure not to turn off your ps3 while its saving!

FrankenLife5535d ago

Can you wipe without assistance?

rockleex5535d ago

Yes they can, if they just STOP WRITING doom and gloom articles about the PS3!! -_-"

rockleex5535d ago

They may not NEED hits, but they sure as hell WANT hits. Websites will do what they can to ensure a lot of hits, whether they NEED hits or not.

Its like saying Toyota doesn't need anyone to buy Corollas because plenty of people already bought Camrys. A smart business man would do everything he can to constantly broaden his target audience.

aaron58295534d ago

And will never click on links with the title such as "Can ....save the ps3/360....?"

ever again.

This has got to stop.

DarK-SilV5536d ago

"Can Resistance save the PS3?"

"Can Uncharted save the PS3?"

"Can Grand Turismo 5 save the PS3?"

"Can Metal Gear Solid 4 save the PS3?"

"Can Final Fantasy 13 save the PS3?"

"Can Final Fantasy Vs save the PS3?"

"Can Killzone 2 save the PS3?"

"Can Wardevil save the PS3?"

"Can the PS3 save the PS3?"

Kinda funny cause the 360 sold less consoles than the PS3 in the same time period and I never saw a single "Can _ save the 360?" title on the net.

Viral FUD marketing techniques ftl :(

pav23235536d ago

or they don't have any ideas of there own to write an article about. Although I am a PS360 owner, my PS3 SAVED ME from countless broken machine rage.

But to answer the Question Yes(if it did need saving)
And it will Destroy the Xbox (Well whats left over from Killzone 2)

Montreafart5536d ago (Edited 5536d ago )

"Delaystation" - Now that 360 doesnt have a single game to play on and only had 1 game to play on in the last year, the delaystation insult is suddenly nowhere to be found. Why? because the tables have turned. Its not delaystation anymore. Its delay60 now.

"Movieplayer" - Now that Blu Ray has crushed HD DVD and outselling with every big movie release, suddenly movieplayer is no longer being used as well. Fanboys are so stupid.

"digital downloadz taking over by the end of 2008" - muhhuahahahahahahaahahaaaa! Thats all I can say, hahahahahaaaa!

"Can [...] save the PS3" - I swear, everyone is going to buy a PS3 sooner or later. With that in mind, you might as well buy it NOW. And enjoy the plutora of Triple A's that redefines gaming. By not owning a PS3, you are just owning yourself from missing out.

Fanboys are so stupid. Its time, we need to switch gears and treat them as they have treated us.

Can Ninja Blade save the 360?

Shane Kim5536d ago

Delaysatation, patchstation, no games, moviestation all of those ha gone and been replaced with the only thing xbots has left in their arsenal of "insults"... sales.

Sir Ken_Kutaragi5536d ago

It won't save the PS3. The PS3 is in no need of saving. Any true gamer would see that.

Major_Tom5536d ago

Time to start the holy crusader brigade once more. Serious fanboys like Omega4 need there bubbles gone A.s.a.p., so why not start now? I did my part.

That goes for you to Sony fanboys.
