Yes the PS3 is currently in last place behind a Nintendo Wii (which is at a much lower price point and aimed at a completely different target audience) and an Xbox 360 (which had a whole year head start in sales on the PS3) and even if it finishes this console generation in last place I don't think it's been a failure, maybe just a learning curve for Sony. But I'm not going to try and predict what'll happen in the future!

so I have a prediction, when Gran Turismo 5 comes out, an article will read "Will Gran Turismo 5 save the ps3.... These articles are getting old, the ps3 is outselling the 360 according to release times, 360 of course is going to outsell it every month literally being half the price, but its been out 1 year more than the ps3, it should be outselling, either that or MS is failing and the articles should be reading Halo Wars, will it save the 360. Looking at the price of the PS3 compared to the 360, yet PS3 is still outselling the 360, MS should be embarrassed as more and more people are switching over, whether its bad experiences, or the games, people are. People who are sticking with the 360 only, or bad mouth the ps3 are stuck up and hate Sony for not providing warrenties on ps1/ps2, or ended the beloved saturn/dreamcast(sega legacy)... The PS3 does not need saving. Its doing just fine. If it was selling incredibly poorly, then the article could have a foundation to build an arguement, but its selling rather well globally given the current economic climate, and the pricepoin the Playstation 3 is at.

I think a price-cut would have a far bigger effect than any one game in terms of shifting consoles, and no doubt that if the Playstation 3 hit a similar price to the 360 or Wii, then it would sell like crazy. But it does not need saving. Far from it

Well it needs saving, but in the way it doesn't become the Gamecube of this gen.

That means, staying in 3rd place. Its still 8 mln. units behind the 360 and the 360 is outselling the PS3 world wide since September 2008.

The PS3 needs a pricecut and fast. It'll get its games though, on 21 mln. now its a viable place to sell games for, although the 360 makes a developer more profit, thus it gets and will get more 3rd party support.

One thing though: PS3 owners just don't buy so many games. Don't know what it is. Playstation users in general don't buy so much games. Look at the PS2. Just before this gen consoles arrived it got God of War 2 with about 100 to 120 mln. PS2's out there. It just sold a bit sad 3 mln. copies or so.

The Ps3 seems to be selling well especially at its current price point. I feel its unfair to compare it to the Ps2 especially this early on. Maybe in 5 years time we can judge it but so far 20million plus sales is excellent for a console at this price point.

The PS3 is doing fine and doesn't need saving.

It's sold more in it's first 2 years than the 360 did in it's first 2 years.

The console features are always improving as is the PSN.

Sony's big name titles have begun rolling out and there are many more to come, some proven franchises like GOW and GT, some are sequels to IP's that are new to this gen such as Uncharted and some are completely new IP's like infamous and Heavy Rain.

With more games coming we don't know about that are sure to be fantastic (name a Sony console that hasn't delivered amazing new IP's) along with future price cut(s) and ever improving system and network features how can anyone say the PS3 needs saved?

This is not 2006/2007 anymore, Sony made mistakes but it's corrected it's mistakes with arguably one exception, price. But you know what, the £425 I paid was a sound investment.

Mart, your a dbag. There are two reasons, okay maybe three that the 360 is ahead of the PS3.

The first is the most obvious and still a valid point though its been beaten to death: The 360 launched a year early. I don't even need to elaborate the finer points of this.

The second is the price cut last September. Though the sales of both systems were reasonably well within the neck and neck range, prior to the price drop, the 360 was getting a regular outsell by the PS3 and that was global. Sadly even at $199 it still can't move past the Wii in monthly sales, odd one that. Further indication that people are only buying the 360 because it is now as cheap as its past hardware failures have always indicated, rumors of dropping the Elite model is suggestion enough that its the fledging console of the bunch. The value propostion between it and the PS3(either model) is ridiculous, and too lengthy to discuss. Microsoft can't compete with price cuts any further once Sony lowers the price again, and that's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Oh they can counter with one of their own again, but it won't be substantial and they will still be losing market share.

We can sit here and discuss franchises all day long, so that brings me to my third and final point: Halo 3 gave the holdovers the reason to purchase the 360, giving it a significant boost in sales at the end of 2007. Sony has multiple first part titles to rely on, which is why they don't sweat losing thrid party support. Sure they need it, but it isn't a crutch to them. It's the reason they don't purchase franchises, at least not this gen, from under the comp. Dirty practice that. If you think SE did it because they love working on the 360 you are sadly mistaking, it isn't gaining them market share in any region that they wouldn't get on the PS3 or the Wii for that matter. They did it because they are greedy, poorly managed and losing money at a ridiculous rate. Capcom thinks they needed more Western penetration and that the 360 is the way to do that, sad thing that, Nobody is really crying over Dead Rising not being ported over, and Lost Planet came out too late for anyone to care. And established franchises, like those born on the PLaystation brand have been systematically selling better on the PS3, Devil May Cry for instance, Resi 5 will do the same. Gears and Halo are the selling points of the 360, it's a primary social machine and most of those who own one, previously owned the Xbox and only the Xbox. I would say that the first 25 million consoles that were sold went to every single previous owner of the Xbox. I wouldn't say the rest are die hard Xbox fans, more like, "hey it's cheap why not, can't find a Wii right now anyway amiright".

The real question that everyone should be asking is how many Halo games can Microsoft make to keep the Xbox afloat. And there is no guarantee that Gears will stay exclusive for much longer, there is a very slight possibility that Gears 3 can make a move to the PS3. Epic isn't staffed by fools, and only the first two games belong to Microsoft. They might want money more than market share but I highly doubt it.

The numbers of those games may look good on paper but it's only those games. And LBP pushed past two million copies awhile ago, so get your facts a bit more straight next time. The 360 hasn't really lost excusives because there aren't that many to lose. I will enjoy that Mass Effect port and sequel when it hits the PS3 that's for sure. Gears 2 will never cross ten million, the chance that it will sell even more than a million over its predecessor is remote.

I think most importantly is for the PS3 to get a few more RPGs that will help it out a lot. A few of my friends are bored of their PS3s already because they dislike shooters and not a lot of RPGs are flooding on the PS3 currently, so we have resorted to PSP and PS2 games for the time being. God of War will help, but just need a bit more variety game wise out there (I'll probably be shot for saying it, but that's kind of how I see it. Need more RPGs, have all the shooters in the world :).)

to go play Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, Heaveny Sword, Warhawk, Motorstorm 2, and many of the other PS3 exclusives and then say "PS3 needs saving." After you play those you will be hopelessly searching for similar games on "other" consoles that can match up to these and, sadly, won't be able to find any. PS3 is one quality piece of hardware, folks-and it has an unmatched number of incredible exclusives both out already and on the horizon. The ONLY thing this system needs is a price-cut at just the right time.

This must be the template people use to write articles anymore. I'm pretty sure at this point in time the PS3 is well beyond needing to be "saved". I'm bored of these headlines already. What used to be controversial and somewhat edgy has turned into a cliche.

Why not just have a God of War preview with a small editorial to make the "news" different and relevant? Why does a great game need to have negative connotation to it? This is the problem with fan based journalism, they have nothing new to bring to the table so they need to tear down the industry to feel special.
