GamePro: Killzone 2 vs. Halo 3

Six years ago, game pubs and the rest of video game playing world first heard about an ambitious new first-person shooter being developed for the PS2 by an Amsterdam-based studio no one had ever heard of. The game was called Killzone, and it was immediately hailed by numerous sources as having the potential to be a bona fide "Halo Killer."

The reality was that Killzone was not a video game that could be accurately labeled as something capable of squashing the Halo franchise, and this is coming from someone who used to play the original Killzone religiously with all their buddies for a solid year after its release.

Now that the reviews are in for Killzone 2 (read GamePro's perfect 5 out of 5 star review of Killzone 2), it's clear that Guerilla Games has finally delivered a game they can be proud of. From its riveting campaign to its robust multiplayer support, Killzone 2 nails just about everything they didn't quite achieve with their first game. But how does it compare to the last installment in the Halo series, Halo 3, the franchise it was originally set out to kill?

After playing both,I can honestly say they are not even close to comparison.Killzone 2 is on the edge with Cod4 and Crysis.Halo 3 is on the same sci-fi style as Resistance 2,Gears 2,and Quake 4.

Killzone 2 is certainly more intense than Halo 3 however.

I played KZ2 at my sisters house. Its not bad. Its pretty, but it just seems like COD4 with better textures, and more lighting effects(and the character modeling is nice too). But none of this matter when your playing the game. I mean, sure when you take some stills/screenshots they look great, but nobody in there right mind is staring at "shadows being cast by trees", while in the middle of a fire-fight. If they are, they prolly get killed online(or in campaign for that matter)....ALOT. I dont know, it just didn't seem as "fun" to me as Halo 3 is online. And im sorry to let some of your fanboys down, but "fun" is the biggest factor in a GAME.

Visually, sure, KZ2 looks better. But its kinda expected at this point. All I wanna know is, what does KZ2 do for the player that keeps him/her coming back for more? Bungie nailed online play with Halo 3, and a ton of kids are still playing it. Looks arent everything--just look at Haze. It looks better than Halo 3(kinda) and its a P.O.S.

killzoned is a term that should only be applied to killzone, as it is a huge disappointment and an incredible waste of money.

it's nothing special, nothing impressive, nothing new, it's nothing. just another high budget let down like almost every other console release this generation.

in fact, halo is the only big budget game that did exactly what it said it was going to do. it revamped halo 2 and made it slightly better and added a ton of new, compelling multiplayer features like forge, video cap from any angle, and picture saves.

criticize halo all you want, fanboys. but in the end, it's got solid controls (unlike killzone's atrocity), it's got a fun, high-replay value multiplayer, a co-op (4 player), and still the best match making system of any console game.

but seriously, why are we even comparing a game that sold more day one than the other game will sell total? why are we comparing a game that took 5 years to make that is basically a bare-bones version of the other game that took half the time to make? and am i the only one that sees no point in ever trying to have a legitimate game comparison in a generation plagued by blind, sony fanboys? there are so many more sony fanboys than sensible, logical console gamers that there is no way to actually have a real discussion.

in closing, killzone 2 is a horrid game that deserves none of the hype, halo is 2 years old and it's sad that it's still the best console fps, ps3 has no good games (sept ratchet and clank) so killzone probably looks good by comparison, and when it comes to FPS (and RTS), the only way to play is on PC

Now other than that imo, its a little of a mix bag of better shooters, and I'm not going to throw around the lame "innovative" tag because I think you can say that about most games but it is missing that signature "Killzone thing" that makes it different or standout from other shooters, aside from graphics I don't think its exceeds shooters like Halo3 with a rich story history from the Halo universe, gameplay and depth of features is what keeps Halo3 revelant even among todays best shooters, Gears again is in your face action with "roadie run", "curb stomp" and "chain saw battles", COD4 superb graphics and strong online with Ranking and incentive type multiplayer...it lacked somethings but at the time it came out it was a overall great experience, so is KZ2 I just think at this point it could have brough alot more to the table....especially since sony has invested so much in this game.

Jokes did say it was his opinion so really he isn't wrong. In your view he is but in his he is not. I have been playing kz2 off and on since I got it. I am at the point where you have to blow up these two mortars. I have picked up the flamethrower for the first time and I really like the realistic effect of how the flame shoots out. Roasting some helgast is fun.

I can honestly say that up to this point in the game I have not been wowed either. It isnt a bad thing as I have been running through playing it like I would any other fps. I die some times but mostly I use my sights and pick off guy helmets from a distance. It seems very typical up to this point.

Graphically it is impressive but it is expected. If it wasnt better than halo or gears then sony would have allot to answer to. Maybe there will be something to wow me later on but so far it is a very nice looking run and gun typical type of game (halo 3 was as well). Online is fun when I am able to play (time is of the issue with work and kids) and I did manage to up my rank to corporal (wooohooo) after playing the first day.

It is very solid game with some minor issues thrown in for balance. I would like to shoot natko in the face but the game wont let me. Go figure...when he is down I usually leave him but he somehow manages to come back. He just annoys me!!!

I give it a very solid 8.5 for now.

If you played the game a lot you would know that you can find out where campers are and other people shooting from far away just from the muzzle flash from their weapon. Or the Fact that you can target a enemy from far away because of their glowing eyes or flashlight on the chest.

Even the particle effects in the game gets in your way in multilayer when you are looking down the scoop and dust from the ground block your view for a split second. Please the game is not just about looks and the things which make it look good is used to make gameplay feel real

i am just also stating my experience while playing killzone 2. i think the last fps games that i played was resistance 2 and call of duty 4, at that time i was really impressed with those shooters but when i played killzone 2 it was a big upgrade on everything, from the realistic graphics, fun and addictive gameplay and top notch online multiplayer. all i am saying is killzone 2 has set a new benchmark for console fps. almost everyone here agrees that it is the best fps graphically and couple that with solid controls then you have something special that is very hard to beat. you don't have to change a proven gameplay and controls, what game developers can do is improve on the things that they can and that is to make the game more fun, realistic and entertaining, which is the main purpose of the games anyway. right? so killzone has done what is set out to do, which is to be the leader of the pack, and it has certainly done just that.

i give killzone 2 a solid 9.5/10

Ok since we are throwing opinions out, i will not mention the controls of KZ2. But i will mention of how crappy it runs online and it isn't so much lag it drops major frames to unplayable at times. If i play for more than a hour at a time it hurts my eyes and gives me a headache from being so unstable in the frames department. Maybe they will patch it, and make it run smoother.

Lets see how Halo 3 ODST turns out in comparison to this well structured, yet far from iconic or innovative (unlike COD, Halo and Gears series) game named Killzone 2.

Killzone 2... great, amazing, gorgeous game.

Halo 3... legendary, iconic, smooth game.

They are both great. But I still give the edge to Halo 3 if only for Forge mode. Everywhere else, they are equal of close to equal. But forge is something VERY special and innovative. Sure there are tons of level editors, but only LBP suprasses it on consoles, as far as I'm concerned, and that's a different genre all together.

But I'm not calling KZ2 bad by ANY stretch of the imagination. After you tweak the controls to your liking, it plays a lot better. I would prefer to sight my guns with a trigger, but that's not a deal breaker for me. In the end, it plays like a hybrid of Halo and COD... I just sometimes wish it would choose one... but again, not a bad game.

Clearly Halo haters will be the majority of my disagrees, but there is no reason they can't co-exist. Between Halo, Killzone, Gears, and Resistance, we can show Nintendo and the rest of the market that there is STILL a goldmine in hardcore games and little sustainability in casual games.

This should be about screwing Nintendo for abandoning us, not about screwing the other of the two companies doing the right things.

People aren't buying 360s for Halo anymore,Gears of War is THE must play Xbox 360 game of this gen.By releasing a Ps3 game of such higher quality,Sony have effectively given people a strong reason to buy a Ps3 instead.They won't feel like they're 'missing out' a next-gen experience,and this is exactly why Killzone 2 is 2009s most important first party game.

Killzone kills all 360 exclusives period. Ive never seen a game this good even on pc. The only one that comes close to blowing my mind is Empire Total War,, and thats not in the same genre. Only game that comes close in the genre is COD4. Every other title out besides those two could be discontinued for all I care. Yes even Socom. But I will say that Arma 2 and Operation Flashpoint look like competition. I dont see how any of those two games could be done on the 360 though. Maybe on 2 or 3 disc maybe.

Grpahically Killzone is better than Halo3. Gameplay wise Halo3 has a much more open feel and invites different approach gameplay. Add in the replays, save films, screen grabs and forge and its obvious Halo is still miles ahead. Killzone is a good game with great graphics. Halo is great game with average graphics.

Why the need to defend it? The things you listed with the possible exception of Forge, don't contribute a thing to gameplay, but they do contribute to community. So maybe you can say at this point, Halo 3's community features are greater than Killzone 2's. Community features weren't included in their comparison. Maybe they'll do that in the future. Can't they both just be great games?

I think it will. Guerilla has set up a very robust support system for KZ2. There is an extensive clan system, online stat publishing, sponsored clan tournaments, unsponsored clan challenge system, worldwide ranking for clans and individuals, etc.

All that remains to be done is to keep providing new maps, and keep tweaking new game-types, and keep rebalancing the weapons, so that they can keep the gameplay from getting redundant. Although I must admit, a constant cycle of 5 different gametypes will take a long time to get redundant.

As long a Guerilla offers this kind of support KZ2 will become as much of a sport as it is a game. Maintain the sport will create and maintain a vibrant community.

The point is, when you play KZ2 and then right after that play halo3, which do feel gives you a better gaming experience? and quite honestly after playing KZ2 and going to halo3, it felt like I was playing a last gen game.

Weather KZ2 does halo3 numbers online for as long is a mute point because the PS3 has way more diverse online games and it's fanbase get spread across them all; for the 360 the main options for exclusive online entertainment are halo3 & geow.

The PS3 keeps getting more and more online experiences so the base spreads out even more. The up coming year is bringing in games like LFP and MAG which will further spread the online community out from SOCOM, KZ2, R1&2, Motorstorm, LBP, Warhawk etc etc.

There will be more people playing halo3 for longer cause there aren't much more exclusive online games for the base to enjoy other than geow.... unless you really think the halo/geow fanbase thinks Fuel of war and shadow run iz teh uber. :/

Untrue. Most of the little brats play noob friendly COD4 and COD:WAW now. I should know. I play both games and the player base for Halo 3 is more mature and older thanks to COD siphoning off the little brats.

Halo 3 actually takes teamwork and doesn't give you cheap martyr or air-strike kills whereas if you get on a roll in COD4 you can single-handedly win the match. Lastly, I could easily inflate my kill:death ratio by going juggernaut/martyr but why bother because the game is just cheap in the first place for offering me that option.

Ehh??? KZ2 MP better than Halos? Lool no way. I've played halos mp from the beginning and still love it. I got KZ2 too but the multiplayer is nothing special. Yeah it's fun 32 player chaos but halo wins because of the variety and fun random stuff that happens in every match (sick multikills, no scopes, sticks, splatters etc.) Halo is also much better for competitive gaming.

That Extras/Replayability/Overall round goes to H3 also. KZ2 doesn't really offer that many gametypes and variation as halo with it's fully customisable modes. Halo's theater and forge are a huge boost too. Still KZ2 wins that round? What?

So that makes it 4-2 for Halo but we can make the multiplayer a tie since I have only played it like 10hours so far compared to the hundreds of hours I've played Halo... 3-3.

Halo is the Mario of the FPS world. If I were the parent of a pre-teen/teenager, I know it's the only FPS on the market right now that I'd let him play before his 16th or 17th birthday. Hence its close to 10 million units sold and popularity amongst the prepeubescent.

I will give my full verdict after I get K2 today from GF, but people are always quick tO forget how huge Halo is. You could probably fit the all of KZ2 into one of Halo's levels. Halo doesnt used a zoomed in aesthetic to pump the action, and offers FAR more responsive controls.

Halo is one of the most influential games ever. yet the franchise took a nose dive with halo 2 as a matter of fact the multiplayer kept the last two games barely afloat.

Killzone on the other hand is getting better and it's just a different technology as a matter of fact there's not a lot of games that can be even mentioned on the same sentence.

I have played both - and am currently playing KZ2. Visually it looks great - there is no argument what so ever about that. However it doesn't bring anything new to the Genre of FPS and is almost a clone of COD:MW with a few tweeks which is not a bad thing at all. The ONLY problems i have with the game is the response time of the controls - too sluggish which is what everyone is stating - and the very limited types of enemies...but it is a war and most people you fight in a war are the soldiers who all look the same so that last problem i have with the game is nit-picking.

All in all KZ2 is a great game. But i still stand firm that the OVERALL is what matters and Halo 3 still comes out on top. But comparing KZ2 to Halo 3 is appropriate as i feel KZ2 is the PS3's REAL FPS just like Halo is Microsofts.

Killzone2 does something that no FPS to date has done. It created the most engaging shooter experience ever period. This is not a game you fly through you are in a fire fight. The enemies use real Team work to flush you out of cover, flank you, and rush you. They dont stand and take shots either they run, hide, and counter you. When in a fire fight its never one dimensional you have enemies fireing from all positions you have to watch your left your right and keep on the move. They will even keep you pinned in cover while down behind cover while someone rushes up on you. No other shooter can offer an experience this intense. Also Jokes On You the curb stomp and chainsaw battles as well as the incentives are the only innovative thing you listed. If I am correct every thing in Halo 3 multiplayer was in Timesplitters future perfect which had a wealth of game modes from vampire to gladiator. It also had a great level creator so detailed you could add objectives and create levels with real goals to play through as well as add vehicles automated turrets and much much more (easily the best multiplayer shooter ever).

Because it is so easy to play anyone can be good at it. This level of accessability is why people like this game. No other reason, gameplay is as simple as it gets for a shooter. The multiplayer is fun but it is by no stretch the best. I have never ever ever seen a game where a SNIPER rifle can be use more effectively in close combat than a shotgun until Halo. For anyone who likes Halo series play Timesplitters Future perfect or even Timesplitters 2. They are old but still more than hold up to anything out now.

Unlike a lot of the people on this site; I own both consoles and enjoy them equally. I've played both games, and I like them both.

In the end, I think that KZ2 is a better game. Weapons? KZ2(cov weapons in H3 only served to anger me). MP Maps? KZ2(wow). MP matchmaking? KZ2(love the dynamic gametypes and map selection) Story? Tie. (not really excited about either). Overall Single player experience? KZ2( visuals, sound, intensity, scale... pick a category(except story)...KZ2 does it better).

Honestly, I think they should be comparing COD4 and KZ2, and then I wouldn't be able to decide just yet. I haven't had KZ2 long enough to see if it has the lasting appeal, KZ2 graphics are obviously better than COD... COD4's SP and MP were way better than H3s, so the only valid reason to compare H3 to KZ2 is because of exclusivity. Again, I could care less, I own PC, 360, and PS3 I just say it like I see it. On another note, Gears 2 vs KZ2 graphically? KZ2. Where in gears 2 do things like the final levels of KZ2 grace the screen? So much stuff blowing up, stuff on fire, wind effects, light effects, number of enemies, surprisingly intelligent AI... yeah, not even close in gears 2, not to mention that the animations applied to the character models in gears 2 make it look like the character is wearing a styrofoam costume.... I disagree with the controls being horrible. I'll admit, I was frustrated by the controls throughout most of the campaign, but I finally started to adjust once I started playing skirmish and warzone. I don't think I was forced to truly adapt until I was unable to use cover as a crutch. After I was actually forced to use movement and aiming I felt more comfortable(rather than line up while behind cover, pop and shoot). I'm not denying that some people are experiencing annoying "lag". I was one that was not happy with the demo because of it, but I think I noticed less "lag" in the retail build. Also, I was more frustrated by gears controls than I am by KZ controls... So I'm honestly a little confused as to why people are complaining so much about KZ when I NEVER adapted to gears controls. Of course that's my experience, I'm not saying that one is better than the other, but FOR ME, killzone's controls are better. Halo's controls... yes, tighter, but also more auto-aim, so you notice the fact that you suck at aiming way less.

I actually hated the auto-aim in H3 as it tended to f-up my long distance shots...Think two people, you're aiming at one, the other crosses in front, cross hair follows the one you weren't intentionally aiming at. If you pulled the trigger at the exact instant they crossed, your bullet would go between them.

Anyway, it took me A WHILE to learn to aim in KZ2, and yes I have the sensitivity turned up. I've already noticed that when I choose a target at distance I usually have no problem popping his top even when he has two or three other guys running around him. Key is steady movement, short burts with the rifles, and you will have no problems. Does it feel slow? yes. Is it a game wrecker? not like the RE5 controls...

Btw, I hate vehicles in H3 and COD:WAW... no, not because I get killed by them, granted that happens once in a while, but I generally have enough sense to just avoid them. Why do I hate them then? If you play in a social playlist you'll find out why... for some reason your teammates see someone get mowed down by a vehicle, they decide it's a good idea to go do the same... therefore, your team loses because they're idiots. Given my schedule (med-student) I don't have lots of time for games, so I don't usually play on a regular basis=no clans, real-life friends=sometimes. Otherwise, MP=social(and it's circus). (BTW, yeah, i had time for KZ2 because last week was hell for tests, and this week is slow) also, cutnell=author of my physics book from undergrad... lame i know, i was studying when i made my account.

First the author just so happens to be the only guy on the planet who brags that he played Killzone 1 for an entire year with his friends. No one on the entire Guerilla Games staff ever played the first one for that long. So it's clear who was going to be the winner...and if this guy would have ACTUALLY made a GOOD case for K2 then it would have come down to opinion. But, just like the dozen of fan-blogger articles that have needlessly bashed Halo 3 just to hype K2..this guy weak attempt to prove his points turns into biased non-sense.

Let's go point for point:

Protagonist: That's not even competition

Story: He gave it to Halo, but not without drawing blood. Biased journalism mistake: Notice he gave a HUGE spoiler away of Halo 3 in the process. It was completely unnecessary and unfair to anybody who never played the game. (GamePro actually lost a real fan of the mag)

Weapons: Look Halo 3's weaponry honestly eat this game alive. Not, saying that K2 has the worst weapons..please don't come Halo's way with a comparison.

Enemies: The truth is just like all of my friends' reactions to this game. This is probably K2's biggest weakness. Without out resorting to low blow spoilers like GamePro did, look at the cover of Killzone 2. That pretty much sums up the games enemy variety. I won't say much more out of respect for the PS3 heads that stil havent played the campaign. Halo 3 smashes this category, especially on legendary.

Single Player: Although, there is one ridiculously frustrating level in Halo 3 (hint: Flood) the rest has some great moments. You honestly don't appreciate what Bungie accomplished until you play through with 3 other friends. Killzone 2's single player? I've been saying this all along there is a good percetage of the game that is honestly average. The amazing graphics have shown me that most people will blow it off anyway. But, don't get it twisted, you honestly are emtionally attached by the beginning of the last level. Which is HUGE props to Guerilla Games. It honestly would have been 200% better if they had co-op. This game is just too perfect for it. The omission is head scratching non-sense. Halo 3 gameplay variety though is ultimately what puts K2 at a crazy disadvantage in this category. K2's graphics are really the star of the campaign.

Multi-player: This is where I spit out my drink when I saw the results. This is where internet fantasy does NOT trump actual reality. Halo 3 DESTROYS all in this category. The ridiculous numbers are NOT a coincidence, They are not hype. These are real gamers that absolutely understand that this game is the pinnacle of online multi-player gaming. It is also the undefeated ABSOLUTE champion in matchmaking. It is clear to everyone who has reviewed the game (K2)that they have not actually put the true hours into the M Player to know how great it is. In fact, it is funny that all this guy could do is compare it to Call of Duty and assume it's similiarities should make it good. Sorry, the 10-20 Halo haters on N4g.com don't even come close to the 100s of thousands that are on any given day enjoying a supposedly dated game.

Extras, Replayability, overall: This is where the Gamepro fan-blogger shows that he actually has no idea what Halo has to offer. In fact, I laughed at his terrible effort into this category. He actually thinks that Forge is just about tailoring rules and vehicles. Are you serious? Forge won technical awards for Bungie. You are GOD..you create the map..you BUILD the level from scratch. Then all of your friends can play YOUR level. (I guess he would have remembered if it was called Little Big Halo)) The first of it's kind pulled off in console gaming. Halo 3 should have won this category hands down just for that. But, oops since Gamepro turned GameAmateur forgot the other absolutely amazing addition to the Halo series...THEATER. This is another ridiculously award winning technology that blew anything else out of the water. Replayability? umm...just look online..I've watched people spend all of last summer just immersed in Halo's world. It is the gift that keeps on giving..this isnt even a contest.

I will keep it 100% real. I wanted Killzone 2 to smash the entire earth. I wanted it to part the oceans! And yup maybe I hoped it would make me feel like I did all those years ago when I played the original Halo for the first time. I also wanted it to be the reason I actually needed to get a PS3. Instead, it has shown me that now we can't trust trusted gaming publications. you can't trust ANY gaming websites. You can't even trust online fans. But, you can trust that 9 million gamers didn't just purchase a game just because of hype and advertising. In fact, it's too late to hate on Halo 3. It is the single largest selling exclusive of the current generation that is not sold inside of a Wii.

Just a Heads up:

Halo:OSDT and Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2 have a real chance of making Killzone 2 a footnote in it's own launch year. This is going to be a fun year!

Just by reading the book you wrote, it's abundantly clear you haven't played Killzone 2. It's one of those games that you literally cannot grasp until you have the controller in your hands and play. You can't read about it. You can't watch videos on it. You HAVE to play it to understand where the author is coming from. I'll try to break it down for you, and this is coming from someone who's actually played both.

Weapons: This is where I figured out that you haven't played KZ2. Yes, Halo has a wide range of weapons that are great, but damn does Killzone outshine every other shooter in this department. Every weapon in the game is not only fun, but it FEELS like how it should. Once you use the shotgun once, you'll know.

Enemies: Now Halo 3 has a lot of enemies, but they could have easily replaced the gameplay with a shooting gallery. Just like COD4, the enemies(I can't even call them that) are simply targets. They sit there, fire, and absorb damage. This is made blatantly obvious when you up the difficulty to legendary. I don't care how many types of enemies you have in your FPS, but if a humanoid enemy needs to take 2+ sniper bullets to the head to make the game harder, it's time to call it a day.

Killzone 2 has enemies. They will fight you. They will outsmart you. They will do all that's in their power to kill you. The Helghast do not stand out in the open to fight you like it's the revolutionary war. Even when there is one guy left, he will hide till you and your squad think it's safe and pass him...then, and only then, will gat you in the back of the head. Now that's an opponent.

Single player: Like I said, you cannot possibly understand unless you play the game. Halo's story is good and when you beat the game, you get the same feeling you do when you finish reading a good book. When you play Killzone 2, you get the same feeling when you get done watching Transformers for the first time...DAMN!!!

Multiplayer: Wow. You just don't know. Ignorance is bliss. Honestly, it doesn't matter if there are a billion people on Halo 3. As long as 32 people buy Killzone 2, it's a win. One thing that's always been missing in not just Halo, but most other shooters, is real teamwork. I'm not even talking clans. I'm talking you and a bunch of other random folk. COD4 and Halo 3 matches with random people usually turn out to be an every man for himself-cluster-fck, in which you can only kill half the people on the map. When the game dropped only a few of my friends that own PS3s even bothered to get the game. But, we played on Sunday and NOTHING changed in my mind. It is an absolutely gorgeous game. But AGAIN as I've said before...Killzone 2 is all dressed up with nowhere to go. It is a good game that PS3 owners should drop dime on; but never compare to the top echelon. Every time you throw rocks at franchises like Halo from a glass house; you are going to get boulders thrown at you by actual gamers. so as to your reply..Newflash: WE don't believe you!

Weapons: 'Killzone outshine every other shooter in this department.'...Absolute ducktales! And you get this from the force feedback of the shotgun? Look it's ok to enjoy the weapons..but to compare them to the variety of H3 or even Gears (Assault Rifle w/ chainsaw on end anyone?). That's like me saying 'Halo 3's energy swords feel exactly like they should'.

Enemies: Are you serious? The game IS target shooting! It's EXACTLY what you claim it is not in the harder levels. That's why we were so suprised at the redundancy in such a huge game.

Multi-player: One Billion multiplayer matchers and counting..the game is a BEAST. Call me in 17 months and try to pretend that K2 comes close to matching H3. Call me after Call of Duty; Modern Warfare steals their game back. Who cares if the game forces teams to play different team game modes. There is absolutely NOTHING it does that makes random people play better as teams than other shooters.

Single Player: Looks Amazing at times! Plays good! The story takes awhile to completely grab you. but, look if you actually want to believe it makes you feel like you just saw Transformers then so be it. Because the Halo Series is the Star Wars trilogy of console videogaming period.

And since you haven't actually used Theater or Forge or any of Halo ridiculous amount of multi-player modes..'it's absolutely pointless to to try to help you understand something that must be experienced.'

KZ is sick to look at, but it doesnt provide the tight controls, 4 player co-op, in game vids, driveable vehicles, forge & other features found in the Halo 3 game released in 2007.

I find it fAR from "perfection" lacking these features found in a 2 year old game, the midget camera angles, not much of a story with repetitve enemies, & more cussing than I think Ive heard it a videogame.... & worse of all, the "realism" of the unresponsive contols = worst MP targeting I've ever seen in a AAA FPS.

Fun to look at, but not much replayabilty for me being spoiled by the better controls found in COD:4, COD:W@W, Halo 3, & Gears of War.

Bottomline: KZ won't outsell Gears much less HAlo 3. But hey, it IS the best exclusive shooter for PS3 & I love the graphics!

Well, my posts were long as it was, but forge=boring=IN MY OPINION, Videos=awesome(drunken rampage, yep, after the bar, went home with my roommates, fired up the projector, logged in to social slayer, 20 kill streak, the next day hilarity ensues, why did i just throw that grenade? why am i walking sideways?, etc), 4 person coop?= I PERSONALLY don't like H3's campaign, so coop doesn't matter to me. The few times that I tried coop, good god what happened to the framerate... For example, I played that level where you drive the warthogs near the end of the game... It was funny cause we kept dieing, but I couldn't help but notice the chugging along(maybe it was lag)? Skulls=I(my opinion, again) could care less... I didn't forget these aspects, I just chose not mention them for the sake of space. To be fair, I should have mentioned video playback because I really like that feature.

My main point is that KZ2 is an excellent game, and I am sorry that bias and hate are keeping you guys from giving it a try. Nit picking the midget camera angles (yeah, this is strange), the controls(learn to aim, I'm serious, or try a new controller)(bu bu but, I know how to aim! no you don't. KZ2 requires tracking ability because it has very little autoaim i.e. different than Halo or COD), and the story (I don't play fps for story usually(READ: not impressed by H3 OR KZ2's story), that's why my other love for games is RPGs)

In the end, I own(and like) both H3 and KZ2(and gears and COD, for that matter), so I don't really lose either way.

Only reason I read it was because I thought gamepro had some sense and wasn't biased. To touch on all of KZ2's points and then leave out forge, 4 player co-op, saved game replays, screen shots and skulls is just screaming "biased" or "paid".

Disagree if you will but to those who have played both, leaving out those key ingredients from Halo makes for a really really weak article and point. That's like him writing this article hitting all of Halo's points and not talking about KZ2's graphics. Both make the individual games shine and were one of the selling points.

This is the flagship exclusive FPS for the Xbox 360, KZ2 is supposed to be that for the PS3. There's no other exclusive AAA fps on the 360 to compare this to. It's like when GT5 comes out, if Forza 3 wasn't releasing they would compare GT5 to Forza 2 because even though it came out 2 years ago it's the only exclusive racing sim comparable to GT5. Killzone 2 is has been in the "spotlight" for some time now. We all know it's "graphicly better" than Halo 3. But you have to look at the "Tremendous" staying-power Halo-3 has. Over 8 million in sales and 1+ Billion game session says alot. KZ2 has a long way to go to reach that milestone. No little Sony Fanboys, I'm not basing KZ2. It's one of the best "Next-Gen" games to date. I'm giving credit to Sony for innovation for KZ2. But credit to MS for the Halo series for having the effect on the gaming world today.

Killzone was wrongly tagged with "Halo Killer" and that's what harmed it. The game it's own merits wasn't all that bag, buggy yes but as game go it wasn't bad and it should be judged on those merits.

Having never played Halo 3 I can't say which would be better but comparing a new game to one release sometime ago is daft and in all fairness do we really need to compare games, can't we not enjoy both games for what they bring to the player?

I recently Played Killzone 2 at my cousins house and i was not all that impressed gameplay-wise. COD4 is still a smoother game and control far better. Killzone best feature is the Dark atmosphere it is presented in but i just get to repetitive with the Cover tatics that are not as smooth Gears.
Halo while graphically is slightly outdone by Killzone is still more reasonably better control wise. Im being honest here so please don't take it outta context. The character enemies moves are too herky jerky for the speed and clumsiness of the guns handling. A lot of the guns seem inaccurate even in Zoom mode with the laser sight placed perfectly on enemies. Resistance 2 is a better polished game than this.

I disliked the campaign mode in Killzone 2. I liked the campaign in K1 better. The ally IA is so damn worthless in K2 it brought down the whole experience, even though I liked everything else.

I lost track of how many times I screamed at the ally AI to do something! Anything! Don't just sit there! I'm looking at you, Rico, you dumb bastard. Those of you who played the final level might understand what I'm talking about.

The Halos' ally AI isn't great either, but the games usually kill them off fast because Master Chief gets the job done by himself anyway.

K2 online is fine, so far. I haven't played it much (I got the game yesterday) so I'm reserving judgment. The Halos' online is pretty good, but I was so new to the Halo online community I was a perpetual newb and couldn't keep up with the other players. I routinely got my butt kicked. Other than that, it was fun to play.

In my opinion, though, neither game has touched the pristine glory that is CoD 4.

That was my only complaint about the KZ2 campaign - I'd have much rather had the squad members in cutscenes, but then go and do the actual mission on my own. GARZA didn't do much except get in my way, forcing me to meleé him out of my path on plenty of occasions.

And they have the guts to say that its better than a game that has been the most played online game on the biggest online network almost every month since it has been released...
