Microsoft Continues To Rise over Sony This Generation with Exclusivity

Microsoft has benefited out of the gate over Sony with multi-platform titles. They have continued to again and again deliver better games, whether the games were exclusive to the 360 or they were multiplatform; I will explain what I mean further down. Aside from that, Microsoft is making quick moves with time exclusivity such as Lost Planet & Bioshock. These are examples of how Microsoft continues to edge out Sony's machine and 3 years later it's still present in this console war.

1) (And this is just personal opinion), I don't hate HHG for liking Sony or Microsoft or any of that. In fact I don't hate him or his site at all, I choose to ignore it everytime. It's almost as if all his writers read N4G and whatever get's the most hits, they spin it -repost their own article on the same subject- and go for more. And if that's what he thinks he needs to do to become well established then good luck :)

It may work on getting N4G fanboys fired up over the console race, but not true gamers because we know not to waste our time.

----> Since when is being in a console race for only 3 years somthing to get excited about? Last I checked the PS2 launched in 2000, and is STILL being supported (though very weakly) to this day. The ps3 each year its been out has pretty much sold more than the 360 or close to its numbers at a much higher price point, with "no games" and with "crappy ports".

The ps3 was never going to fail. Sony has invested countless millions in buying 1st party devs, and has spent years developing working relationships with 2nd party devs via good business practices. MS has disbanded all but what? one or two of their in house studios, and are even pissing their bread winner Epic off with their tight a**e xblive regulation. Who do you think is really invested in the games industry. The reason i really doubt SE managers sanity is that they are turning their back on a company that has over the last 2 generations pretty much created mainstream gaming and therefor built the footing for their current business. They are doing this to favour a company thats business practices are often best described as "morally gray".

And here I thought Sony wasn't offering a price cut because they just recently started breaking even on each ps3 sold. As far as everything else. a year head start, being easier to dev for. you just explained to yourself how the 360 was able to keep an 8 million unit lead over the ps3. From what I understand The 360 had an 8 million unit lead over the ps3 when the ps3 was launched.

But you say that the EU and JP markets saw the ps3 dominate each year right? Please don't forget that the US market is the deciding factor in determining who's #2. In this case the Wii is the undisputed king of consoles this gen like it or not.

Should I care? Wow, the 360 has 8 million more sales world wide (althought we wont talk about failure rate and how many people now dont own one....). That doesnt stop me playing Killzone 2 online in packed rooms, it didnt stop me playing R&C:FTOD, or uncharted, or Metal Gear, or Skate, or Cod4, or GTA4... I could go on and on. The fact is if sony release good software to go with and take advantage of their powerful and reliable hardware, they are gong to make money, and more importantly, they I am going to have the best games to play.

Put it this way. I play games and movies on my ps3. Sony has a bigger line up of QUALITY studios that make games only for the PS3, so as a gamer, I know I am always going to have access to great games. Microsoft can pretty much guarantee you something with Halo in the name and something made by Rare. Sure there will be more games than that, but it depends on what 3rd party, independant studios want to do, and thats just not as reliable as Sonys network of developers.

Oh and as of about 4 days ago the PS3 officially kicks the crap out of anything the 360 has come close to in terms of graphics.

Not to be an asshole, but the PS1 and the PS2 were out before the Saturn and Dreamcast and they still did better. It doesnt matter what system came out first, it's how the consumer receives it. They did well because of 3rd party support and easy dev. kits. Thats what propelled 360to where they are now. PS3 is not going to overtake MS this generation....ever. Not only that, the PS3 had 3 price drops in 2007 in order to compete with the 360, so I dont know what you're talking about. They even discontinued SKUs in which they were against to begin with to compete w/ MS

I didn't know HHG owned a 360. He always says to add him opn one of his PSN accounts but says he plays on Live using friends gamertags which led me to think he only ever played someone elses 360.
I might be wrong and maybe he has a 360 but, and it's understandable, doesn't want to shell out for online which he's said is secondary to SP for him but to not have his own tag on live when he seeks publicity like crazy(again fair enough for someone wanting hits/fame for his site/himself).

The Lost Planet trailer didn't look very impressive. And exclusive DLC is not a big factor in terms of multiplatform sales. Tomb Raider for instance had an exclusive DLC episode for 360, but ended up selling better on PS3.

I have both a PS3 and 360, but I prefer my PS3. Timed exclusives are great though since Sony has a 4 month mark. Meaning, if it takes longer than 4 months to port, it must include extra content. So in the end, the PS3 is getting the superior version.

I own both and I favor the PS3, I sometimes buy the 360 versions because they give me two additional pixels and two additional frames per second, which is sad considering they could do ports that look as good as PS3 exclusives but sadly they catter to the lowest common denominator and ruin what could potentially be the best version.

But again, Content is always better than two frames and two pixels so that's why I own Bioshock, Eternal Sonata and the Darkness on PS3. As for multiplatforms that run better on PS3, I only own DMC4, Tomb Raider, Burnout, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge and COD4. The rest of the multiplatforms I own for 360. Well, except for fighting games, as 360s d-pad is horrendous. Which is why SFIV, SCIV and SFIIHD are on my PS3 collection, same for Tekken 6. The only exception is Virtua Fighter since it has online on 360.

LBP was ok but not my cup of tea, resistant 2 does not feel like kill zone 2 or gears 2, the only thing that saves resistant is the multi.

MGS4....I know i am going to get tons of disagrees but WTF, the game is mad pretty and the voice acting is amazing but what really turned me off from the game was the game play. Let me give you an example, start mission 5 minutes into the game 15 minute movie,start to play game again 5 minutes later 15 minute movie. This story is arse. We all know Lost Planet is not going to be a seller in the scale of other Capcom games (SF4, RE4 & even Bionic Commando). There must be nothing else to write at the moment, if this is the trash I have to read here. I mean both machines are doing just great. If this was given to us with some kind of journalistic integrity, then the fact that Sony has a massive line up of 1st party games coming out this year should have been mentioned, as this would be the reason MS has to buy these timed exclusives.

Lost Planet, of all games, only sold well enough to garner a sequel, because it came out at a time in 360's life where not a lot of true current gen aaa games were being released. If this game is like the 1st, it will sell a lot less, as there are too many top quality titles ready to pounce.

Like I've said before, and like it or not...the 360 doesn't sell because of it's great hardware, it sells because they take the money they saved on making a crappy console, and spend it on huge 3rd party exclusives, timed or not. Sony is killing them with 1st party devs though, which are way better games. When people buy a 360, they expect it to fail, otherwise why would people buy 2, 3, 4, or even 5 of them? That is why it's so easy for MS to drop the price. As long as they sell systems they don't care, but it's not the quality of the system that is selling it, it's the games. Sadly though, as time goes on and the limitations for devs start to become a problem, you will see more devs want to make games for the PS3 in order to do what they want and not be limited.

As the years went on I'm now a ps3 support, big part due to uncharted and the god of war series as well as blu ray. I was pretty much on the fence about about which to buy early on. I'd like to be allowed to play lost and the damned too, but hell if im going to support a console that limits a games audience so they look good. Yea, both systems are great. How about looking at the number of titles before posting nonsense on here. I won't go through the list (because I'm sure lots of people have already done that), but PS3 exclusives are out there. Aside from Gears, Halo, and Fable 1 and 2, a non-biased person can plainly see where the majority of quality exclusives are. I am not saying that the PS3 is the best system out there, just stating that their showstoppers are still to come. Neither the Wii nor the 360 can brag about the diversity of their games library, just a few heavy hitters holding them up. (And that's cool...only saying that the success of a few games should not speak for the entire exclusive games library.) most of the 360 exclusives are not that good...What do you think would happen to them without GTA, The Capcom titles, and Final Fantasy?
