Rumor: Ready at Dawn developing new PSP God of War

Joystiq writes: "If Tuesday's reveal of new -- even exciting -- games coming to PSP knocked you on your rump, you'd best be seated before reading any futher. Comfy? Good. Here's the deal: Joystiq has learned from a trusted source that Ready at Dawn, the studio behind the PSP's excellent God of War: Chains of Olympus, is working on a new Kratos adventure for PSP. Apparently the studio hasn't sworn off PSP development once and for all.

The informant tells us Ready at Dawn did, in fact, ship all of its PSP development kits back to Sony last summer, but received new kits in late 2008 after Sony ordered up the sequel. It's possible that, given its current state of development, the game might appear in some form at June's E3 Expo, our source reports. The title seems an unlikely candidate for release this year, but could be timed to coincide with God of War III's launch, which may occur in early 2010."

I loved Chains of Olympus so I am hoping that this is true.

God of War III for the PS3 and a new God of War for PSP, man Sony is really outdoing themselves as of late.

Thats great.I liked GOW on the PSP more than the PS2 versions

cereal_killa5538d ago

I thought the sent back there development kits for the PSP and was moving to the console market.

http://www.joystiq.com/2008...

"Developer Ready at Dawn has turned its back on Sony's handheld, with a short post on the company's website confirming that the studio is "now officially done with PSP development." Ready at Dawn is best recognized for two of the PSP's more landmark titles, namely Daxter and last year's God of War: Chains of Olympus, though the company's recent success in bringing Capcom's Okami to the Wii may have more than a little to do with the dev's shifting priorities."

If this rumor turn out to be true (take it as you will) all I can say is gigaty gigaty goo GOWCoO was the best game I played on the PSP and was the main reason I got the PSP in the 1st place A sequal too CoO would be sweet.

" Are Ready at Dawn reconsidering their flight from Playstation Portable development?

You may recall that back in June, Ready at Dawn announced that they were going to stop developing for the PSP after putting out the fantabulous God of War: Chains of Olympus. They even put their money where their mouth was, returning all of the PSP dev kits to Sony.

But recently they posted about the continued success of Chains and Daxter.

According to Gamasutra, 2 out of 5 top PSP games sold on Amazon in the US last week were Ready At Dawn games with Daxter and Chains of Olympus both making the top 5.

Maybe we should reconsider this whole ‘no more PSP games’ thing because we seem to be doing pretty good at it

It sounds like they are kidding, but why not return to the PSP. Maybe Sony should send those boxes back, filled to the brim with cash to help convince Ready at Dawn."

PirateThom5538d ago

As much as I would like to see it, I honestly think they have moved on. A lot of developers use PSP as a proving ground, of sorts. I don't think it's fair to tie developers to a handheld if they have visions beyond it.

If Ready at Dawn can deliver a game worthy of the home consoles, I fully support them and hope they achieve the same level of sucess.

However, maybe that's why they sent their PSP dev kits back. With their game being multiplatform, it means there's no Sony funding in it, if they had a crutch to lean on with the PSP, they may not have pushed as hard as they could with their own IP.

God of War chains of olypmpus was amazing truly worthy with being with the 2 God of War titles. The story was excellent.

Both requels over 2 and 3? Clowns. Those are two of the most boring games I've ever played.

Snookies12172d ago

GoW 3 was amazing, but I personally hated just one thing. (This is on me alone, because I was dumb, lol.) I hated that you couldn't skip cutscenes on repeat playthroughs. I had to go back through the game a third time because I missed one trophy accidentally on my way to the platinum... The cutscenes were great the first go round, even the second... But the third was pretty agonizing.

Haven't played Ragnarok, but I still think GoW 4 is a wonderful game in its own right. Not sure how I would stack them up against each other honestly.

Monstieur172d ago (Edited 172d ago )

I don't consider the reboot part of the original series. The original series were high-skill games with combos and rewards for mixing things up.

solideagle171d ago

lol square, square and triangle is the only combo you needed. I have played all of them on the hardest difficulties...

Golfcoachh172d ago

Maybe I’m just old school but I just couldn’t get into the last two. Maybe it’s the slower action and more story telling but the original trilogy was by far my favorite.

Crows90172d ago

It's not that youre old school. They're different genres

JL2930171d ago (Edited 171d ago )

Me either, at all. It's just yap yap yap. They try to be a RPG's instead of being action games like they used to be.

Fluke_Skywalker171d ago

I'd put the two psp games over 3 in terms of story any day. But not over 2.

My favorite was part 2 and I think Ragnarok is better that 2018.

Shane Kim172d ago

The newer games are better imo.

ravens52172d ago

There is no worst. Except for Ascension, only cause I didn't play it lol. They are all masterpieces. 1,2,3, 2018 and Ragnarok. 1 of, if not the greatest video game franchise...besides MetalGear.

Snookies12172d ago

Oh wow, I actually forgot that Ascension even existed... I never played it either.

Crows90172d ago

I like ascension. It was different and some interesting combat additions.

darthv72172d ago

If you didnt play it, how could you call it the worst? Its not as bad as the media portrayed it. Honestly the worst are those flash games. they arent even considered true GoW games but in name only. At least Ascension is a real GoW game.

ravens52171d ago

Not saying it's a terrible game. Just mean it's at the bottom of my list. I played a little bit of it. Jus to me, compared to the other main games, it's last.

Fluke_Skywalker171d ago

Ascension is the only GOW game I never finished. Hated it.

Inverno172d ago

Can't agree, older games do so much more than the last two. More weapons, magic abilities, enemies are more varied, level design is also more aesthetically pleasing, and agree with those who say that they shouldn't have removed jumping. Was a time I'd agree, but those old games are so so much better, that they really should've looked into bringing into the reboot/sequels.

Crows90172d ago (Edited 172d ago )

If a game is good then a game is good. Doesn't matter what came before or what comes after.

Inverno172d ago

Of course it matters. If not for what what came before there wouldn't be an after. And if something is great before then you strive to make it just as good if not better, after. I personally don't think there's a fair way to judge the new with the old because the newer games are still essentially a reboot, and went a way different direction. But I still believe the old games did it better. I'm probably bias though since I've been going back to old games and have been finding that they lack all the annoying aspects that devs have shoehorned into new games to fluff out game time.

Crows90171d ago

@Inverno

Im not talking about the passage of time here. Im talking about individual pieces of software. If a game is good then it is good. Thats not a controversial statement. You can compare good with good...sure. But you still end up with good. Now if there is a bad game in the mix and you compare you do end up with some differentials between them...makes sense to compare and see where it went wrong.

But theyre different genres and styles which were individually executed very well.

And no. The new games are not a reboot. Theyre a new direction but simply a continuation.
Tomb raider was a reboot.

Inverno171d ago

The new games are definitely a reboot, and a continuation, it can be both which it is. And a good game might be good, but my point is that if there are things done better before it then there's plenty of room for critiquing and trying to make whatever comes after better rather than just good.

It's so disappointing that to this day, I have not seen a game match what BLACK offers in an FPS.

ApocalypseShadow202d ago

Shame isn't it. I thought we'd be at a point of destructible backgrounds, objects, pyrotechnics etc in shooters. I sold many a copy in the demo unit when I managed a franchise Game Crazy back then. But I stopped playing shooters because they didn't evolve. Heavy weapon. Shoot a wall or glass. Nothing happens. Lol. Except for Killzone 2. I enjoyed that.

But then I woke and remembered it's EA. EA didn't care really. They just wanted to kill competition from Criterion and Burnout. And own Renderware to profit from as many developers used that engine. Only thing was that developers ran as fast as they could away from EA to Unreal Engine and its pop in and Vaseline graphics. Shame on EA. And then they bought Dice for Frostbite. Evil busters.

Anyway, too many PS2 games to count. Some of my personal faves being DMC, Genji, Bujingai, Blood Will Tell, Onimusha, Way of the Samurai, Japanese Berserk, Japanese Macross game that blew away the US Robotech game, RAD, Castlevania Lament of Innocence.... there's just too many. Let me stop. Lol

Cacabunga201d ago

Code Veronica
Dead or Alive 2 Hardcore
The Getaway
Time Crisis 3
Killzone
Mark of Kri
SSX

are some of my all times favorites missing on that list

shinoff2183201d ago

I've always Saud I'm not a fan of fps much , there's been some I really like and thought were really dope. Black falls into that category.

CoNn3rB201d ago

I would love nothing more than a remaster of the Jak series, including Jak X

Flawlessmic201d ago (Edited 201d ago )

The greatest console of all time !!!!

The last console from when gaming was pure, games didn't take 5 years to release, no online only, no half finished games, no mtx.

Ps2 was just banger after banger after banger.

It will always be my favourite.

sagapo201d ago

No Timesplitters in the list??

FinalFantasyFanatic201d ago

This is a really good list, pretty happy with the choices here.

I don't know about 20, but I know Dragon Quest VIII, FFXII, and Persona 3 are my top 3.

No particular order. Not a huge JRPG guy, but these hit it home for me.

Flawlessmic516d ago

Fairly solid list, would only change a few, I'd put onimusha in there, ico, personally would have vice city.

Then again I'd double up on some series dmc 1, all 3 gtas, both metal gears, all 3 jaks.

Ps2 was just crazily stacked really, every time I think back on it, those were the good days of gaming.

sagapo516d ago

Was thinking the same about Vice City. But yeah, solid list and great era of games!

shinoff2183516d ago

I still think ps1 was better game wise, but im sure thats an age thing depends on what you grew up with to an extent. I feel san andreas is to this day the best gta made. None compare 5 is close imo but just doesnt best it
