Yesterday's claim by Shiny founder Dave Perry -- he knows someone who knows all about the new PSP and it doesn't have a UMD drive -- has been presented to and waffled at by Sony itself.
Interviewed by MTV Multiplayer, John Koller, who heads up SCEA's marketing of PSP, said that he "Can't comment either way," but did add, "I will reiterate that the digital component is very important to us. That's all we can say at this point."
Acquire, famous for games like Tenchu and Octopath Traveler, becomes KADOKAWA subsidiary. Can this mean a revival for beloved series?
I would kill to have a Way of the Samurai game with a huge budget and modern tech... The first game was one of my greatest joys on PS2 back in the day. And I really hope From Software will do something with Tenchu... I hate that they're just sitting on the IP like it doesn't even exist.
Tenchu would be superb in this day and age. Ninja and samurai games are hot right now and more is better.
Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?
Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.
Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida is interested in working on a brand new Final Fantasy Tactics game.
Not from you.
Knowing how you handled FF16 by trying to make it appeal to non-fans and changing the entire gameplay design I can see you changing Tactics to appeal to non-fans.
If they’re going to do this please give it to someone who wants to keep the game and genre in tact.
I wouldn't mind a new FF Tactics longs they keep the tactical elements of Tactics in it as well as a very in depth story. Which FF Tactics years ago has by far one of the best stories in the series.
No UMD plz. Digital downloads are perfect for portables, just look at the iPhone/iPod Touch. Replace the UMD drive with a hard drive, and sell PSN cards in every online/offline retailer you can shake a stick at. You'll save assloads from everything being sold virtually, and you'll positively advertise the PSN in the process, as long as you keep the games coming. The only real speed bump for that are people who don't have internet access.
they're obviously not going to say anything. you want them to confirm it so no one buys PSPs?
Actually, I agree that they should take out the UMD on the inevitable "psp2." Though to be honest, it's not that bad of a format. I like the mini blu-ray disc idea, but I doubt Sony is even considering that right now due to the extra production cost something like that would bring to the table. (Atleast, I think they cost more than UMDs, but correct me if I'm wrong)
I think we're heading in the direction where digital distribution of software will become the norm as opposed to having hard copies of it. Though a recent study still revealed that most gamers prefer to have hard copies of their games if I remember correctly. It will be interesting to see what direction Sony will choose to head to.
...but won't get a PSP2 as Sony has failed to support the current PSP. Games are what matter and there are all too few good ones on the PSP.
the psp2 wont come out untill Nintendos next Handheld project is announced
